A trip to The Grampians was the first activity on our son's agenda when he & his partner returned to Australia for a visit after 7 years in the UK.
Today was the day, together we made our way via a cache dotted route to Halls Gap, including a stop here. Wow a Golden Oldie - close to 12 years on the geo-gameboard.

Thanks to DAZNAE for placing caches in interesting locations.

You had to be very adventurous to find this cache. It was a bit of a scramble to get down to the river and you need both hands free to locate the cache. Nice find in the end. TFTC. SL. Thanks for putting a cache under this bridge for us to find.Giving this one fav because we loved the adventure. Had to help some ducks and ducklings get across the road, even though they stayed very close to the road, which is very busy. Cheers. SmileSmileSmile

10-Oct-20
Found 10/10/20 @ 6:43 pm.
Last cache for the day, on the list as I saw there was some "unloved" time on it. With no expectations of finding the goods, but 4 sets of eyes looking, we hunted high and low.
Having read previous logs, I had some idea where not to look. Within about 15 minutes, the goods were in hand.
Are with previous finders however, definately not a T1.5!

Checked the log sheet, last finder was 363 days ago, so we will claim those days against our "unloved" tally.

Cache dry and in good condition.

Thanks DAZNAEfor bringing us here.

Ages ago, my phone pinged when a virtual cache was published at Echuca SurprisedCool
I was ever so tempted however I knew there was a geocacher there who did a lot for geocaching and the local community [:X].... so I gave him a heads up Smile and an 'until midnight' free pass [^]Smile Many has been the day when I wondered why I did that[?]Razz[?]Wink[?]Big Grin

At 2am Friday night [|)] I realised there was a new virtual Surprised, still unfound 8 days after publication Surprised[?]Surprised, in a place that I had been to before and from which I had taken away great memories of the tour of The Drives Cool Black fairy floss was my description of the mould in the tunnels Wink

Having woken late this Saturday morning [|)][|)], I had no intention of going for a loooong drive to find this new virtual near Ararat...... but we all know that a caching weekend is hard to resist! RazzBig Grin Particularly with the lure of a possible FTF on a virtual too Wink[^]

So Rex and I took off about midday and drove, drove and drove to the Seppelts/Great Western winery and not a cache was found on the way SurprisedSurprisedSurprised Yeah, I know... shock and horror!! Surprised[xx(]SurprisedTwistedSurprised

Exiting Harry, Rex and I headed into the Shaft Room and I lined up the shot [^] then, with shaking fingers, I logged the find online CoolBig GrinCool
On our way out we had a chat with Alan in the winery as we bought a couple of bottles of lovely sparkling Shiraz [^][^] (apparently Seppelts/Great Western were the first winery in Australia to make sparkling Shiraz... no wonder it's so nice Wink) and reminisced about the knowledgeable tour guide for our SABERS motorcycle group's tour back on 25th November 2012 Cool
If you get the chance, do The Drives tour as it is fascinating! Cool[^]Cool

I also needed to find an EarthCache for International Earth Cache Day and blow me down, very close by was an EC by Geo Bro' SurprisedCool[:X]

We spent the night at the Brambuk backpackers hostel in Halls Gap before grabbing a few caches in that town of happy memories CoolSmile on the Sunday.

By the end of the weekend, we had 2 Sad DNFs and 24 Smile cache finds and we arrived back home at about 11pm on Sunday night, tired [|)][xx(][|)][xx(] but happy with a trip that also included Halls Gap CoolSmile and the finding Smile of a cache that had been DNFd twice before in years past! [^]

OMG!! SurprisedTwistedSurprisedTwistedTwistedTwistedTwistedTwistedTwisted
Finally after quite a few yearsRed Face, I can say 'found it' Smile for this evil cache!! TwistedTwistedTwistedTwisted
Parking Harry off the road down on one of the tracks from the end of the armco, Rex and I took the long route to GZ Red Face as I thought it may be easier than the 20m odd through the bush to GZ Red FaceBig Grin It wasn't! SurprisedTwistedSadSurprised
At GZ, I did something Surprised I sure hadn't been going to do in motorbike boots and about 35degree heat last time I was here [^]!
There is no way that is T1.5 Surprised It's way more dangerous than walking across flat grass to a cache SadTwisted
Since I'd forgottent to download the cache details to the phone before arriving at GZ, I had only the GPSr logs available here and thankfully that was enough to make the find Smile
Bloody scary when you have dodgy knees like mine that don't bend Sad and no one knows where you are if you slip SadTwisted

On 4/9 heading for Halls Gap for Grampians Brushes, with TrudyJane, and having had a good look at previous logs....certainly a bit of a scramble and a need for good balance..

09-Mar-19
This cache took two visits and quite some time to find. Initially we focussed our search on areas consistent with a T1.5 rating. We must have spent at least 40 minutes searching and then researching the selected areas. As we did not have any signal on our phone, we were unable to check the listing and previous logs. So we left and went closer to Halls Gap where we were able to get a signal. We read many previous logs and got a far better idea of the hide location. So we went back and within a couple of minutes, the cache was in hand. The cache and contents were in good condition. This is certainly not a T1.5 cache, it is at least T2 or possibly T2.5. Thanks DAZNAE for the cache.

Intresting terrian rating but a good DT combo. The previous logs were helpful. Missed it but ahomburg's eagle eyes did not and cache after a 15min search was finally in hand.

Find #9996

I had been looking forward to this weekend for some time. The plan was to find my 10,000th cache and also fill in the last 2 spots in my phisy P81 grid for loop 15. Looking ahead at the weather and it was going to be an absolute beauty. SedgwickDave agreed to come along for the adventure.

I needed another 20 caches before the big one tomorrow, so we decided to stop every now and then along the way to pickup various caches along the way. After a dinner in Halls Gap, we headed out towards our camp for the night, but not before lining up some more finds to make 10K a target cache. This one turned out to be a higher T rating than listed, but eventually using other logs we worked out where we needed to be and after a couple of sweeps, cache was in hand.

Many thanks to DAZNAE for the cache. TNLN.

Big things are continuing to happen! *Are you joining the fun again in 2019?*

DAB and I planned on an adventure to visit the Grampians region. We planned the trip with plenty of supplies and our hiking gear. We set off early to make the most of the few days we had. A great trip away with heaps of laughs and some great locations visited.

After some hiking in other parts of the Grampians, we wanted something a little easier to get to. This still wasn't an easy cache to access or find but after making our way along from one side each, we made the find

**Thanks to DAZNAE for hiding this cache for us to find and enjoy**

29-Sep-18
With an overnight trip planned in Halls Gap, I once again found myself in the company of Na'wal. We had hand picked a dozen or so caches for this trip, plus we picked up a few more. The weather was on the cooler side today, which was perfect for hiking. We had an awesome day, with amazing scenery. There are plenty more caches we want to grab, but they will have to wait for another day...
A clever little hide, that we soon spotted. Thanks for showing us this location. TFTC DAZNAE Big Grin

We were driving around after a walk up the Pinnacle trying to make the most of the lovely weather. I stopped the car to have a look for this one after arming myself with information from previous logs. I was slipping around and was starting to get frustrated when I spied something. I think I might have found cache two not cache one based on previous information. Added my initials and replaced as found. TFTC

12-Aug-18
Looked for this cache unsuccessfully years ago, but hadn't been back.
Fixed that with The Morris this morning, not where I thought it would be.
Thanks, Robmc.

12-Aug-18
For the second time in 2 weeks, we headed across to the Grampians to meet up with Robmc. This time we got the correct weekend.
It was cold and wet at times, it hailed, it was windy, sometimes it wasn't anything but we still managed to do a few of the walks.

This cache has given us much grief and we have looked for it many times. Even though we read the logs that advised us to look under we still needed to PAF. Log has now been replaced.

Out on the road knocking off some caches close to the road to keep out of the rain. Nice and sheltered under the bridge! This one was tricky, didn't drive us completely nuts though. Geodad spotted something that did not look like it belonged... that was it! Log book full, took a photo instead. Thanks for this cache. Great little spot to enjoy once we got out from under the bridge

Today was a huge day leaving home at 6:30 am and not getting back home until 2:30am the following morning. After we had finished a walk to Boronia Peak we were looking some lighter caches to let our bodies recover.
With the terrain rating at 1.5 we hunted and hunted and hunted everywhere around GZ that we could think of. Eventually we resorted to reading some logs. They suggest we looked elsewhere and one log in particular gave the information that confirmed where we should be looking. After that the cache was found quickly.
Thank you DAZNAE for the hunt

30-Jun-18
With a 600km 20hr caching day, Simsfamily and Neville Devil and I made an early start.
The weather all day was intermittent showers, fog and blue sky's but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm.
As the name suggests this way a not so easy find which had us looking everywhere as the rating suggests. With persistance the the cache hide was located.
The log sheet is full and needs replacing.
Log signed and replaced as found.

Thanks for the cache DAZNAE

This one beat us today! Sad

01-May-18
Found at 2:36 PM GAFF2.
You know what makes this a "NOT SO EASY.." cache?
1. The co-ords take you to the west side of the bridge
2. The Terrain rating suggests it is just on the road level and easily accessed.
Both wrong!
Thanks for the hunt though DAZNAE.

18-Dec-17
Found in the company of skullracing and dazpete while off on a little pre chrissy hunt.
Sorry the late (and crap) log, I need a good smack. Thanks for the fun Smile

18-Dec-17
Found with DazzPete and Coruze.
After a nice morning caching and 4wding, lunch was calling our names, so we were hot footing to Halls Gap, when this one popped up on the screen. A quick call over the UHF was answered with a "naah, I'm hungry", then all of sudden the brake lights came on and the Jeep turned left....looks like we are stopping after all..
We all jumped out for a look, armed with a bit of a hint from previous logs, and probably more good luck than anything, the cache was found quicker than expected and we all scribbled our names in the log.
Now it's back on the road to lunch!

Well I'll be. That's a sneaky little hide. Seen similar closer to town actually.
Thanks for the cache but definitely not 1.5T rating.
Makes for a a good D/T combo though!
GPS really struggled to settle so it came down to using the geo-senses...

18-Aug-17
Suscoe was out and about in the frost this morning, zero degrees and the ice was on everything here.
Well we were initially not sure what we would do here due to reading previous logs.
A 1.5 terrain is incorrect, should be atleast 2.5 or 3 considering what it would be like after heavy rains.
We were slipping on the bark, wood, grass and concrete with the coating of ice.
Took a few passes before the little cache was spotted.
Thanks to DAZNAE fir this hide.

07-Jul-17
After a fun day hiking up on the Serra Range I thought I'd stop for the drive by caches on the way back to Halls Gap.
I looked and looked but couldn't find anything at or close to GZ. (Coords had me a couple of meters off the guard rail into the bushes)
I read a few logs suggesting there was two caches here, a few noted the difficulty was lower for them as they'd found this type before. Thinking I've seen a fair few caches myself I figured surely I had an idea of what I'm looking for as well. 30 minutes of frustration past and no luck.
I was defeated and back in my car but decided to read a few more logs dating back further into the archive.
I spotted one which suggested they had to venture under the bridge.... quite the contrast the a recent finder suggesting spot on coords.
Under I went and at first glance I saw nothing, but with the light from my phone I managed to spot the little blighter! Exactly what I was expecting to find on the guardrail btw! I retrieved the tiny log and added my name. I looked for the second cache everyone seems to mention but couldn't see it. Replacing the one I found felt odd, I couldn't help but feel the CO back in 2010 didn't intend it to be there. Nevertheless, SL and returned as found.

TFTC,

Leaving Halls Gap today and collecting caches as we head west. This one was spotted by Nana nel, favorite added.

Having completed our time at ACT, Snowy's, Dandenong, National Riley Rally on Philip Island, Geelong and now some of the Grampians, it's time to cache the area around Robe before a 50th with a friend on the Murray River and the Red Center Experience GC6825Z before returning home with skibum1 from America via Broken Hill, Lightning Ridge, Killcoy and Armidale.

Visited a group of trackables that will be left at the Alice Springs Event .

08-Dec-16
Found with a little (but not too much) difficulty. Certainly lots of places to hide stuff here...
There were two identical-ish caches here so I only signed one. Fortunately just managed to extract without needing to go back and get tweezers. Replacing logs was also slightly difficult - it's a pretty tight fit.

Nice area though - thanks for the cache.

This one was not easy to find.
Nice idea so we give a fav. Point!

Approached this one with some caution when I noticed a car parked ahead, pulled Cruiser Bug off the road onto the track to discover a man (cacher)? looking suss on the bridge. So got a drink and had a smoke, read some passed logs. by then he was on his way. Ventured to where I thought the hide may be and was soon rewarded by another logbook sign. Thanks for making me stop at this great little spot DAZNAE.

I can't believe I finally go caching in my absolute favouritist area and it has taken me this long to sit down and log them! Here's hoping scrappy field notes and an even scrappier memory are up to the job Red Face Just love an excuse to fossick around creek side, which is just as well as fossicked for a little while before the eyes zoomed in on the target and definitely glad I had the mini extractors on hand! Log was full but squeezed a squiggle in Smile

I love these clever hides. Beautiful creek, have never stopped for a look her before, one of the reasons I love geocaching so much!
Left the tweezers behind, they'd have come in real handy! Luckily had sharp nosed nail scissors which could be used to dig out the log, I don't think it was coming out otherwise...

The GPS had us going from one side of the road to the other and back again. We found a few loose bolts in the railings, which we thought would be clever spots, but these turned out to be nothing. A bit more of a search in another possible location and the cache was in hand. Great spot. The log took almost as much time to get out of the container as it took to find the cache! TFTC.
