A milestone birthday for MrTG last month & the family booked a short labour weekend family getaway in Hokitika. It just happened to coincide with a monumental Spring weather event over the weekend. With Arthurs Pass shut with snow, we had to head north out of Christchurch and through the Lewis Pass to loop back around and down to Hokitika......in torrential rain. Fun driving, not much stopping!Heavy rain overnight but it stopped long enough in the morning to go for a wee walking adventure with MrsTG whilst the boys slept in. Literally staying in an arbnb just around the road! approached from teh top so all good....thanks.
Staying very close to this one. Whoop whoop what an adventure! First soaking wet long grass, then fairly thick gorse and finally (so we thought) loads of tree branches. Oh no, thats not the tree we are looking for! Quick recheck of GPS, another likely candidate spotted. Down a muddy bank and we had it. An NZ resus. Have an FP
Over a year since this has been found , gorse as been cut back so much easier to get through. Found a travel tracker, he’s been sitting round way too long so he’s on the move …..
Back in hokitika for my 2nd annual queens birthday weekend caching mission....
After a trip out to the gorge its time to make a start on the unfounded town caches
Well fancy finding one of the Cos cache all the way over here...been a while since this was placed and gz is well overgrown...just have to go for it ..quick find once there..dropped off tb..

Oh my we have to walk in here, gorse same height as us. Tried several other options then made our way in. Climbed thru lot's of scratchy stuff in shorts eek. Happy to find cache thanks Bitsprayer.
Day 2 of a 4 day road trip. My mission on this trip was to travel South and West and then East and North. I found a few more caches around Hokitika before heading further South and West. A nice walk in to GZ. Last couple of metres to the cache were a bit of a challenge due to the gorse which has sprung up. TFTC, Biggles.
Our original intention today was to cache our way from Jacksons through to Springfield but with chains essential from Otira we hastily came up with Plan B which brought us back to Hokitika and the wider area.
This is one of the caches we found while exploring a part of the West Coast we weren’t so familiar with. It was a pleasant walk to this cache and it was quickly found.
Thank you Bitsprayer.

We planned some solid caching for a few days but the weather gods had different ideas. Warning today for Arthur's Pass was chains required. So no good caching conditions there then either. We soon came up with an alternative and stuck to lower altitudes When you're doing the miles driving you need to stretch your legs sometimes. This nice little walk was just what the doctor ordered. Thank you Bitsprayer
This must be one of the worst and best day of caching I've had, with the score at 3-all in smilies to frowns.
This is a smilie one. I drove in at the other end and just had a 20m walk.
Cheers for the cache.

A detour to follow Bitsprayer to see some of the local infrastructure. This is now also a bike track, leading to the Blue Spur bike trails.
The Seagnoid, Zara Toby and I are off for an expedition to the West Coast for a long weekend. Left Zara with her friend Total Span. With Ross behind us we are back to explore Hokitika.
Another walk to break up the day at a great place. Snagged and tagged. Cheers

On a three-day geocaching extravaganza with Taybeedragon. The gps is leading us ever closer to Hokitika, but there are still a few walks. Took the walk here to the reservoir. I noticed the walk was missing off the map, so I have since added it.
My guess is that the track runs along an old pipeline track, and they converted it into a walking track after the pipeline was disassembled.
Anyway, a beautiful walk. Thank you for bringing me here!
The travelling fox is happy =^,^=

entering via the given coordinates was a breeze, no mud and a nice easy track. thought it may have gone as it looked as though gorse had recently been cut but she was still there. TFTC
I didn't see a pipe either, but I saw evidence of its existence. GZ was certainly not a place to be approaching with bare feet - - - but I was well-prepared so that was ok. TFTC .
Going from Hokitika to Greymouth today, enjoying the fact that caches point out a few back roads. Thanks.
A quick find on a winters tour down the West Coast. The weather is great (though cool), and the scenery fantastic. What a beautiful country we live in. Thanks for the hide.
A fairly quick find after a pleasant walk along the track, then carefully picking our way through the gorse. TFTC
A quick find on a drive after lunch to find all the caches in the area. Signed log, TFTC!
Nice walk on a well maintained track.
Tip toed accross the prickly stuff to retreive the cache.

Ouch! A few patches of the lovely gorse to dodge otherwise a great cache, will return to do walkway. TFTC.
Parked quite close by. Plenty of gorse on the way to the cache. Just near where we had dinner last night! TFTC
Found at 11:20 AM GAFF1 in the company of Phetlern. Found a quick way in and tried to avoid that nasty plant.
Thanks Bitsprayer

Our ninth day on the road with the Pprass team, traveling north from Franz Joseph to Westport. A very prickly situation with lots and lots of gorse. Terrain rating might be a bit light on!
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt Bitsprayer.

Nice little walk to this cache, didn't even know this walkway existed!! Native birds kept an eye on us as we kept an eye on the gorse prickles! Beautiful friendly wood pigeon waiting for us back at the car. tftc
No pipes in sight though we did see a few doodies along the walk. Cache track is now obvious through the prickles. Left tracklable for the next cacher. TFTC
Took a brief look from the cachemobile and decided to put on the armour before heading to GZ. It was a wise decision. Nary a scratch.
You have to be a masochist to get to GZ, due to huge amount of nasty gorse to circumnavigate! Not recommended for haemophiliacs )
Accidentally parked right beside the cache without realising, walked down the track for a bit and then turned around to find cache beside the car! A cache for the thick-skinned!!!!
Never did see a track - although a cyclist did pass us as we were parked about 10 metres from the cache - did not know our way round and just followed gps and Stretch0 popped down and soon had a smile on his face - signed the log thanks for the cache
Didn't notice any track to start with but found the road to take me close enough to do a quick grab TFTC
Never knew this walk existed! Does anyone know what the fenced off structure is? TFTC
We did this walk with the dog, had no idea this walk even existed! I'd like to say thanks for bringing us to this location, but the flora at the end took from the experience... anyway thanks for the cache!
Starting to wonder if you have callouses where I don't. Ouch. Took my pain out on some of the offenders so the next person will have an easier time of it . TFTC
Would be better without the gourse, left a "Winner medal" cause if you get to it YOU ARE a Winner
Didn't realise we were 'supposed' to walk, so we took the park nearby option too!!

Walked from the parking coords, but yeah, could have parked right next to it if coming in from the other road. Still, a nice enough walk . FTF, TFTC!!!
#1537 (13/18 CHC to Greymouth). A nice short walk with a prickly end. TFTC.
