Given the area is now more difficult to access than it was when I placed it, with fencing preventing public entry outside of business hours, it might be time to archive it and allow someone to place another cache in the area, should they so desire. It's a shame, as I think it is a good spot! Thanks to everyone who found it and to BoatieTim for checking it out recently.
I have been to the location and the cache is gone.
I sent a message the owner and its up to him what he wants to do about it now.

I went to check on this on behalf of the owner and after 2 attempts it seems the ground is locked up for the Chrissy/New Year holiday period. So I was unable to ascertain the existence of this cache.
1800 Thursday 20 Dec 2018 gates locked.

Sounds like this one needs replacing. I'm not in Melbourne at the moment, but will endeavour to get down there.
Very excited! Our first time geocaching and we found it. Clever, clever spot! The boys loved this
No one else here today while I made a quick find of this long standing cache. Thanks robwinmar
Found at 14:53 on September 28, 2018. Find # 937.
Out with AliFS on grand final eve, in the area and everyone is in town for the parade so we thought we would come and check this out.
There were 3 men playing kick to kick, (They could be players but I wouldn't know even if I tripped over them lol).
We had a nice look around and then went home.
Thanks to RobWinmar for placing and maintaining this cache. We are getting closer to our 1000 find goal for this year. TFTC.

Out with BoatieTim, we wanted to do a cache on the football parade day so we went to the Footscray football oval. When we got there we went to go have a look to see if we could find the cache, but their were muggles so we had to be very careful. Then we had a look and Daddy thought is that the cache I said "I do not know". So I went to have a look and it was the cache, so Daddy and I found the cache today at the oval. The cache was well hidden, I had no idea it was there. After the log was signed we then had a walk around the oval on the grass. TFTC
Found on my second attempt! Too many muggles last time!
On a glorious day of VFL football at one of the brilliant old suburban grounds. Some great memories here!
Today we see the mighty Port Melbourne Boroughs 15 12 102 victorious over a gallant Footscray 11 10 70
Here is Port coach Gary Ayres giving a ripper speech! TFTC

Had a good time here at the Whitten Oval for the Doggies' open training session with toy hunters before the Carlton match the next day. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe of the club. A cool hide - TFTC RobWinmar!
Nice quiet spot. Not too much wind and enought muggles so i dot look to suss... thanks
Umpired a few practice and sub senior level games here, which was always fun. For some more then others because the umpires rooms had a door directly to the bar. Ha ha. Quick find Tftc
After looking at this cache for a long time, I decided that today was the day for my grab. It took me a while to figure out how to get in, but it was worth it. The surrounding buildings made the clue pretty necessary, but a search was still had. A fantastic hide, a perfect fit! Thanks for bringing me here and for a great history lesson on the stadium!
Not sure a quiet Sunday was the best time to try to find this, as we couldn't find a way in...
I have been stuck in the house because I haven't been all that well lately this has caused a little bit of cabin fever. Feeling not to bad today I arranged with Ausfox; and Neville_devil to get for a light day caching to ease my cabin fever. I was particularly after some regular size caches so Ausfox; found a pocket in the North West.
While heading to our target area we passed by this little guy to start our day of caching. Once we finally worked our way into the ground we easily found the right seating area and in wasn't long before Ausfox; made the find. It was nice and quiet in the ground this morning but I am sure that sometimes it would be crawling with muggle making life difficult.
Thank you Robwinmar for the hide

Hmmm Saturday morning is not the time to be looking for this one! Muggles everywhere! Hopefully I am in the area on a different day to reattempt this one.
I joined up with Simsfamily and Neville Devil for an easy day along the Maribyrnong River and surrounding areas.
It was a busy location around the Basketball stadium but all quite in the seating area, where after a quick search the cache was located. I remember watching a VFL game back here in the 80's, it's changed a little since then.
Log signed and replaced as found.
Thanks for the cache RobWinwar

This is my team. Love the dogs. All my family are dogs. Except muggle husband who is a cat. Dogs eat cats. Found the cache and signed the log at the Whitten Oval where I spent quite a bit of my childhood.
I went down after Xmas for a look and signs said the whole complex was closed until mid January. It would now be open, so people can now access the footy ground. I couldn't see anything that would prevent access to the hide location once in the ground, so I will reactivate the cache. Please let me know if I'm mistaken.
It sounds like it should be disabled for now. I'm not currently in Melbourne, so if others could check and report back if the area becomes accessible in future weeks it'd be much appreciated.
After struggling to find a quick approach to GZ from the carpark we did the long walk around the stadium to where we thought we spotted an open gate driving past. Access to GZ itself has been cordoned off with plastic tape wrapped across all entry points - we decided not to push our luck by ignoring these barriers knowing that Big Brother is likely to be watching you. Might need to be disabled until GZ is accessible again?... :-\

We were actually accompanied by the sounds of intense effort, coming from the indoor facility as we found the cache and signed the log.
Thanks RobWinmar for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

I was tricked at first but then I looked over the whole area & quickly figured it out! TFTC
Train trip out west to a festival with jimmytherat . Decided to visit home of the Doggies on the way. After a slight detour to find an entry point eventually found the pup in its kennel. Thanks Rob nice one!
The Doggies were in the house today - must have been members sign up day as we had to discreetly get through lines and lines of red white and blue clad fanatics! These 4 Carlton supporters were not deterred and we soon got ourselves to where we needed to be and quickly had the log signed. TFTC.
Well - have a look at our geocaching profile picture and take a guess about what we thought of this cache! We're from Canberra, however when my Dad first moved to Australia in the 1960s from England, he settled in Brooklyn and has supported Footscray/Western Bulldogs all his life. He was four days old when they lost the 1961 grand final. After 55 years of wait and struggling, despite all the odds and the merger attempts, he was finally able to see their second premiership - luckily, I was at a young age of 17 to see it! We played an inspired season and a fantastic grand final, led by one of the greatest coachs of our time, Luke Beveridge.
While in Geelong to see family, we were very excited to hear that they were letting people get close up photos with the premiership cup. I had to spend a $130 Bulldogs Shop voucher as well, so today, we drove up to Footscray to achieve our goal. Not only did we spend our money on lots of cool stuff and got our pool room photo with the cup, but we also were able to sit in the cafe while the players were having their lunch - very cool! However, we also got the cache at the oval - we couldn't miss the opportunity! After a quick walk up the steps, the nicely hidden cache was found - great hide. It's an awesome view of the oval from here as well, so we sat and contemplated our great day before heading back to Geelong.
Obviously, a very memorable cache. TFTC RobWinmar!

A quick find once we figured out the hint, which was good since it was raining now!

I found myself in Footscray this afternoon with a little time to kill, so what better way to do that than to find a cache or two. I got pretty close to GZ and saw the 'one of these things is not quite like the others' clue that made this a quick find.
The cache is in good condition.
SL. TFTC RobWinmar.

Last time I visited I observed that they had put gates up. When locked, they would prevent entry. On that occasion though the one near the cache was unlocked, but others may not have as much luck outside of business hours.
Great to see the Doggies win the premiership this year!

First cache for us. Topical that it was the Doggies ground as it's our closest cache, and soon after a great win in the Grand Final
I am standing outside the stadium waiting for the big game and will collect this one after the final siren and hopefully lots of celebrating with the other doggy fans!!! Thanks RobWinmar for the cache.
How many #13 are there in this area? Nice hide, I took time to sit and enjoy the views. Tftc
I drove past along Geelong Rd and saw that they have now put a gate up at the southern end. Can someone confirm that the ground is still accessible outside of club business hours?
I think I spent more time looking for a way in. Great location. I looked a bit suspicious being the only person in the stands
Found when attending an open training session with my doggies mad husband. Nice hide, thank goodness for the hint because it is a needle in a hay stack otherwise!!!! Found this picture ironic and funny. Signed log, thanks for the cache - GO DOGGIES
Eghhhhh why is it always when I come that it is closed for private session. I have found this with a friend but couldn't get to it today again. Worst luck
Hi Team_Justice, you should be able to access it from round the side, behind the big white building that houses the Vic Uni indoor sports facility. Access is from Cross St. Otherwise there's also open access from the other side of the ground. Good luck!
We parked behind the main stand but couldn't find a way in. All the gates and doors were closed? Anyone suggest how to get to the stands. there were no games or anything going on Sunday around 11am.
I assume the cache is all good hence the note.

I've been meaning to replace this cache marker with a smilie for some time now. I finally took a detour while in transit for work, just to get it. Took a couple of minutes while pretending to take a few photos and check some emails but I can finally cross it off my list.
TFTC!!!

1st local find. Almost ready to give up when the Sloth found the secret.
Swapped Buddha for colones

We are keen geocachers on holiday from NZ and grabbing a few smileys as we go. Watched the Bulldogs win very convincingly, but on the TV, not this venue. It was closed for training when we arrived, but opened up again just in time, so we did get into the stadium. Easy find, thanks to the good clue. Cache all good. TFTC
This was our first Geocache. It took us 2 attempts to find but we got there. Great little adventure. Log book getting full
Oh my god we just about to give up and then we found it you ever put this in there are very smart off to the next stop
Found the false cache first, then found the real one soon after, it is near the false one!
Found on break for lunch while in the area
So good to see these old suburban grounds still alive and welL
Remember there is ALWAYS more than one 13 !!!

We (my daughter and I) had a good look around on Sunday but couldn't find this one. Regardless, it was good to spend some time in the stands overlooking the oval.
