Logs
Had a great day and perfect weather. Thanks to Team Stevecat and the other COs for all their work in setting up this run. Got a great history lesson along the way.
Also was amused to note that the number of trains we saw greatly outnumberd the vehicles on the road. Trans = 7, vehicles = 3 for the first three hours.
This was just one of the many caches found by us today. TFTC-SL
Thanks for the caching fun

After many months waiting we are finally here, we where fortunately enough to meet the cache owners at an event, but even more fortunate to have mild weather.
We completed the series plus a few side caches in about two days and loved it

Thanks to Team Stevecat for the fun that it is.......and bringing us from Australia to complete it
452-Route-66 is probably the best cache of the series! A must do! Coming up the road from Twentynine Palms, run out of etrex memory regarding pocket queries (somewhone must have placed 800 caches or so in the area), we hit the road at Ambroy direction Kelso. Upon my trip to San Diego, back in February this year, I dreamed of these desert trains at Border Crossing, well before I met YxZd, now being here together!
A particular situation, as I said, no waypoints in hands, passing the road, I saw a geocacher. Stopped the car, backed up, and who it was: Noone else but bgecco from Hungary! He first seemed uncovered as I approached him so directly, then we introduced each other, excitedly - or maybe he was half dead after already 300 finds this day - and he showed me his gps, with the cache shortly in hands. Thank you so much, mate, saved: At least one cache of this great series: The best one! Still logging myself and YxZd, bgecco moved on and stopped 160m further down the road - at the place where we found the shoe tree.
Driving and stopping in moave is fantastic. Fell like Out Of Rosenheim or Bagdad Cafe! Just no bavarian music today! As passing 11 years ago, I stopped at the salty Bristol lake. This time, I put my shoes on, as I remember, the calcium fluoride salt gives a peculiar feeling on the skin. Salt is good, conserves! We have walked on Lake Eyre, last year, with the clouds of a thunder storm above... Bristol Lake was pretty dry, but the desert experience tells, be careful, as it may be humid mud underneath. Always laughing of these tracks of bogged 4WD... hahaha!
These salt tiles of the crust are so amazing. How do they generate? How is the border growing? Water coming through these cracks, from the underground, carrying salts and evaporating - growing the crests! How the water in the mine is greenish blue! So different from NaCl concentrated water, which turns pink through halophilic archaebacteria - here the mineral is CaCl2 which seems to be sterile!
And of course, excellent motives for photo shooting. All 5 of us had great fun!
TFTC, mate, time to hit the road - and hoping to finish the series one day,

I teamed up with a couple of other out of towners - tumble3weed2 and rcbpasco from Washington State.
Between the three of us we came up with a system that worked even if we weren't the quickest around.
On Day 1, we found 500 of the 800 over 11 hours stopping at dark plus a few non Route 66 caches.
On Day 2, we completed the series albeit in the dark with flashlights plus more non Route 66 caches.
Enthusiasm on Day 2 wasnt the same as day 1 with the bodies working a little slower with 8 hours to complete the the series.
We had a good time, seeing bikes and bikers, military jets 'buzzing the tower' as well as refuelling above us. Also a lot of old Fords heading to Needles. The army were also making a racket over the range with their tanks. What we didnt see was anyone else doing the trail - maybe we started too late in the day.
And what about trains - I think it was around 40 over the two days but we probably lost count.
We also found 6 extra containers at some of the spots - all within a metre of the actual caches. These will be heading to Australia to start a mini Route 66 trail - number 802 to 807.
Thanks again for the experience.
Now for the job of logging all the finds .....
