Passing through Greytown and checked out the Pa on recommendation. Lovely area. Taking a ohoto as we left the pen in the car.

Yay. My first smiley of the day. Thank you

15-Oct-22
Found this cache on the way back from getting a bunch of caches at the end of the road (well, one and a bunch of DNFs, most due them them being archived long long ago). For some reason the crew in the two cars decided to stop at some along this road but not stop at all of them. A nice little hide in a big stump.

I am spending this weekend in the Wairarapa, in the company of some great caching friends. Having driven over yesterday after work, and spending a wonderful evening of relaxing, drinking, and talking complete nonsense (as you do), we were now having a relaxed afternoon around some of the interesting parts of Masterton and Greytown.

By now we had fragmented into a few individual clusters of cachers, heading off to do a few caches of individual interest. But 2 carloads still chose to stick together, and by now we were heading back to the accomodation after a long but enjoyable day.

But there's always time for another cache, seeing as we would be driving right past it. A reasonably fast find as the cache was pretty much lying out in the open. But no issues to report here, so the log soon had a bunch of extra names in it.

Thanks for placing this here all those years ago, and maintaining it since.

15-Oct-22
With the end of the year closing in fast, I had a few specific caches in the Wairarapa that had been on my 'do them this year' list for some time. Also, some of them would likely require assistance. When the option to join forces with some other Geocachers for a weekend over this way came up, I took the opportunity. What ensued was a Saturday of fun, gathering caches, flat batteries, phones dropped in lakes and ladders up trees. Sadly I couldn't stay for the whole weekend, but did manage to get done the ones I needed, and a few more as well. This was one of the caches I found.

No problem finding the cache here, as described, safe and dry.

Thanks to the CO for placing and maintaining this cache.
I enjoy every cache I find, and it is only with CO's placing them that this wonderful game continues.

With (Mr) Davidson Clan and Gap (of Fap and Gap)… On a boy’s weekend roadtrip south. We’re relocating down the road today. So our base camp shifts to Carterton for the night…

An interesting history of the local marae. I caught just a glimpse of the whare as we were passing - It looks well maintained… We applied the hint and came upon the cache after a careful search. Thanks CartertoniC and TFTC.

Day 1 Cache 20 of my mad mission to the Wairarapa for the 100-10-7 Challenge. Wet and rainy day today but cachers must carry on. The lovely Ethness has joined me as driver for the day. Bit of searching while Ethness looked on from the car. The neighbour collecting the mail said hi as I emerged from some bushes Smile TFTC.

We aimed to reach the peak of Everest so where did we head but southern Wairarapa, as you do! Smile This was a two day expedition first to Featherston and Lake Wairarapa, then onto Martinborough and finally to Greytown to complete the peak before returning home. We planned carefully making sure we avoided the tropical storm, the remains of Cyclone Dovi. We saw evidence of fallen trees and lakes in paddocks and even got to one main road bridge only a couple of hours after it re-opened, so we counted ourselves lucky. We actually experienced two days of beautiful late summer weather.
As we headed to Greytown on Day 2 we deviated a little to come this way for the Hato Tamati multi and this cache which make good companion caches. Unfortunately the road to the Pa was closed with some drain/road works going on so we could only sight the Pa from a distance. The cache site was well clear of that however, and Mr G located it after a bit of a search and scramble around likely spots. It was actually easy to see when on the correct side and we have tried to cover it better. Thanks for the interesting history of the Pa. TFTC

One of 12 located on a day of sightseeing/walking/exploring in the Wairarapa, with a few caches thrown in for good measure! First caches at Castlepoint, then some en route to our ‘base’ near Carterton, and a few later on in the Greytown area.
Didn’t really know where to start looking as there were lots of options. So began on the wrong side, of course! Soon swapped to the correct side and found the cache almost immediately. #2296. TFTC.

Sadly the only other time I have been to the Marae was for a funeral of a boy who was killed in a tragic accident.
A more cheerful occasion today on a pleasant bike ride around Greytown.
A quick find, fortunately no hornets in evidence. Cache was quite exposed but didn't seem to be much at risk so I left it as is.
However just as I was returning it a young boy's voice was heard saying "what the heck is that guy doing?" He and his friends (they were on bikes and appeared to be from a neighbouring house) asked me about it so I explained but they weren't impressed about a treasure hunt with the only treasure being a container and log book!
It seemed unwise to give away the exact cache location so unfortunately a demonstration didn't seem like a good idea.
TFTC.

20-Oct-18
Found with Injeanious as we explored the area during the Mega event, some logs were signed as JeJe, TFTC!

20-Oct-18
We got straight down to searching GZ and I recoiled when I very nearly put my hand on a hornets nest. The hornet wasn't too impressed either. JD made the find while me and the hornet eyeballed each other.Tftc from team Jeje.

Very cool spot!

Cache # 4,198 - a quick find today, after a previous DNF a few years ago. Cache container was obvious and almost in open. CelloJoss and I signed log and put it back a few centimetres away, where it is a bit better hidden. Might pay for CO to double check when in area and make sure it is where they desire. TNLNSL. TFTC!

I went for a drive to the Wairarapa today picking up a few drive bys. Thanks for placing the cache.

Out for the afternoon finding a few caches around the Carterton/Greytown area.
This is one of those caches I've never quite got around to searching for. Finally I was in the hood today, so made a quick find.

#3649. Yay, Friday dawned clear and sunny and I had the day off work. So it was time to have another adventure in skindoland. Love geocaching in the wide open spaces of the Wairarapa. My mission today was to find at least 50 caches for the DGSC challenge. Set off from Wellington at 8am and got back home at 11pm having travelled on some remote and dusty roads in the back of beyond. Ended up bagging 61 caches (including one archived cache found by chance). Today the target area was the caches on the remote dusty roads NE of Masterton but also picking up a few others en route. Finally can convert this one to a smiley. It did take a few minutes to spot even with the helpful hint. Hopefully this new location will be more secure than its previous hiding spot. Nice to be the first to sign a crisp new log sheet. Replaced the cache as found. Thanks for the cache CartertoniC.

One final attempt to keep this one going by moving it a bit further from the marae.

Replacement cache in place.

17-Feb-17
Recently assessed the area for a new GZ. Will get a cache in place shortly for one last attempt to thwart the local 'vandals'.

22-Jan-17
Apologies to the DNFers since July last year - somehow they managed to escape my notice.

The area around GZ seems to have been so denuded of cover that this cache may have had its day. I'll have another look around and see if I can spot a more suitable location. Ideally it should be nearer the Pa but when the cache was Hurricane Luke's, he found that the locals were vandalising it repeatedly so perhaps it's now time for retirement.

21-Jan-17
21 January 2017 20:16. Add me to the list of searcher's.

After one of the most memorable DNFs in my long geocaching history at the previous cache, I had not realised this one was different. Obviously different placement, but on my trip with InfoFerret today there was no sign of anything remotely resembling a cache. My DNF streak on this "cache" continues!

18-Dec-16
Not this one either today!

22-Jul-16
Sadly my second DNF at this location. Parked nearby and checked the original spot again the widened the search a bit more. Didn't require any swimming today to access the GZ. Very limited places the cache can be hidden and still fit with the hint. All the trees along this road have been seriously pruned back so not sure if that has affected the hiding spot. Maybe its more cryptic than I was expecting.

Had a good look around but couldn't find this one.

New log sheet added, cache container 'tidied' and put back in place. All good to go again.

17-Mar-16
Checked this one today to find the cache in a sorry state. I have removed the bits (log and containers) and am disabling it until I can restore it to its original glory.

08-Feb-16
Thanks to bchefj&p, it appears the cache itself is OK to enable. However, I will check it and see if the log needs to be replaced with a new waterproof one.

08-Feb-16
Driving on roads we have never been on or will most likely visit again lol. Cache was all good for us but log was a bit wet tftc

30-Jan-16
Found the cache container for this one that was empty and appeared to me muggled. Then I spotted the cache log in a pill bottle pushed down in the dirt underneath. Not sure if the first one was a decoy or if this is the way its meant to be. I have put it back the way I found it but looks like everything is still there.

22-Nov-15
Appears to be muggled so disabled until i get the chance to replace it.

21-Nov-15
I stopped to do this cache but am afraid it looks like it has been muggled. The camo cover was open and there was no cache lurking inside this object. It needs replacing or archiving.

07-Jun-15
Quick find on the way past. Tftc

Found Started out about 10 am this morning on the bikes with a heap of caches saved from when we were down here last, thanks to all the cos and Wilcox for the time and effort put into some of the ones we came across, after roughly 20km we managed 19. Lovely day and now sitting back enjoying a well earned beer. Tftc I have added paracord key chains to the ones I could. - I love this town and if it hadn't been for all the caches here I wouldn't have had the chance to enjoy my stay.

Down in the area for a caching week.
Enjoying finding all your caches and the area.

I had a few hours to spare while Mrs B and our daughter were off looking at some sheep to buy, so went a bit further afield than normal and got a few park and grabs under my belt. As our son-in-law works down the end of Papawai Road this seemed like an excellent place to pick up a few caches. As always this was an educational Hurricane Luke cache, so long as you take the time to read the description Smile and the cache was sneakily concealed from casual view too. TFTC

#1261 Found during a 24 hour caching raid in the Wairarapa with Nic-jay- seeing how many we could find in 24 hours. Nic-jay found this and managed to disturb a couple of millipedes who have moved in- her squeal made me smile- sometimes it's nice to let somebody else find the cache Wink hehehe TFTC!

01-Oct-14
Found while on a 24 hour caching adventure with Skaga through parts of the Waiarapa.
Skaga decided that this would be a good time to check the GPS and plan our next few caches - I wonder if she knew that this was a centipede breeding hotel! There were heaps in this cache as well as lots of eggs! I couldn't help but let out a squeal which made my "safe in the car" caching partner laugh! TFTC - I liked the container, just not the residents!
