Today I decided to load up the ebike on the back of the cachemobile to do some more on the Clutha Gold Trail from Milton to Waihola.I decided to walk to this one.Cheers for the cache, Onslow Fisherman.
tmann421 and I are on our way south to attend the MEGA, picking up a few caches on the way.We enjoyed all the caches found and thank the cache owners for their efforts in maintaining these for us to findLog signed tm/ww NZTFTC
We are in Dunedin for the Mega and this is day 3 of our trip. We planned to get numbers today so headed to the series down this way and then cached our way back to Dunedin. All logs signed with SEAC (South East Auckland Crew) {unless otherwise required in the cache} as there are 5 caching names in the group; stik-a-crane, unclesam, NZTravellers, Keylev and us. A lot of fun was had, lots of laugh and memories made with friends. This was a quick walk from the nearby parking area. TFTC
Team SEAC consisting of HeMaLuDy, Stik-a-crane, UncleSam, Keylev and ourselves headed to Dunedin for the 2024 MEGA!All logs were signed as SEAC to save paper (except where specific signing requirements were requested)Third day of our Mega weekend. The weather although wet wasn't as cold as yesterday. Thanks to all the CO's who had maintained the caches as we found a majority with fresh paper and containers!TFTC
In Dunedin for Geo Toroa (Mega) with a team of cachers from South, East Auckland (SEAC), NZTravellers, KeyLev, HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, and myself. This is our usual annual caching trip where we usually travel to a Mega (in NZ thus far) and/or cache the area, or select an area most of us haven't been caching before, to gain maximum numbers for all. Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining caches in some stunning locations that we may not have visited had it not been for geocaching. I was grateful that most of this series had a reasonable pull off to safely park in.Signed in as SEAC to save logbook space unless stated for individual sign in's.TFTC.
Here for the 2024 Mega with a group from Auckland. Sorry for the generic logs. Thank you to all the cache owners who placed the caches to support my addiction. Most logs signed as SEAC.
Day 3 of our mega trip and today was the day to hit the logging trail and some extras of course! After finishing those we wandered in the general direction of our home for the weekend, caching along here. Thanks for the cache. Signed SEAC (South East Auckland Crew)
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we were staying in Balclutha we had decided that we would go for a geocaching road-trip today we detoured onto SH8 & parked up by where the Clutha Gold Trail crosses the roadway walked in to nab a couple of easy park, walk & grab caches these two caches were both easily found, log-books signed & the caches replaced as originally found were pleased to add a couple of 'smiley faces' to the tally TFTC ... TN:LN:LS this was #6,229 for us!

Always too busy heading to Dunners to take the time to get his cache but today we made the effort to come down here to get it. How nice to see that Granville got first to find on this one. TFTC
Found it while cycling the Clutha Gold. Always fun to stop for a few geocaches along the way.
The prickly bush has gone but the cache is still there, thanks I believe to Daywalk.I was out trying out the new track up to the Mt Stuart tunnel and back.Cheers and thanks,S.t.
I have been past this cache many times since i have been caching and never stopped. So today we had time plus Daywalk recent log I have finalyy got rid of the green here.
Nice day to get outdoors and I've been wanting to walk this stretch of cycleway for a while from Milton to the lovely big suspension bridge in the paddock that you can see from SH8. Took me 40 minutes at a steady pace from the carpark along from the old woolen mill to my destination bridge. And of course had to sign off this cache along the way. Thanks daywalk for keeping this one going.
Searched diligently with a previous finder but no luck. This cache needs to be replaced or archived.
Wd biked past on the new trail today. Cache gone with the trail building, but the sleeper for used the hide was still at GZ.
Deciddd it would be good to keep this OF cache going, as an example to newer cachers wanting to place caches along the new trail. Jim's caches always told you why the location was important, and the railway history.
Have tucked a black pill bottle under the sleeper, hidden behind a rock. The sleeper is on the side of the trail- stay on the trail to find the cache.
Will see how this temporary replacement goes, and will replace micro with a small snaplock the next time we go past.

Very difficult, I know somebody has just found it but might need some cache maintenance as it appears the landscape has changed significantly since it was placed.
Unfortunately it looks as though new cycle way is going right through area. Couldn't access area as all gated off to see if cache could be salvaged.
Went there today and found there is currenently some earthworks going on there with 2 diggers nearby. Nothing remote to the hint was at the GZ. Might possibly need archived.
Out for girls afternoon on a beautiful day with Natalie247 to go and hunt a few caches new and those pesky unfound blue faces. After doing some of the plane series we decided to come and cross this one off the list. Second time back and found it easier this time with some help from Natalie247 and replaced where I found it. Glad to get this one out the way. Don't like this area much. TFTC
Super hard find hubby was hunting around in the prickles and thorns and was very overgrown, log book wet and moss on it managed to log find
Need 50 today for a Geocaching Licence Challenge. Thanks for all CO's placing these, especially those with safe parking. This is number 43. Got on second plunge in.
Found it. Watch for the barbed wire.
Tree across track at the moment. You can walk around it.

Had a couple of scrambles, before I found the correct place to scramble. For some reason I was looking for a wooden hint item, but eventually found the right location. Previous logger is correct: beware of barbed wire, not only on the nearby fence but also right by the cache. Log is "write in rain" - a bit damp but bag is a bit green with moisture. TFTC.
Found after. a scramble to the GZ. Watch out for the barbed wire right by the cache. The container was a bit wet inside but the waterproof logsheet was fine. TFTC and moment in history
Nice to get this one, always thought about it as I drive past, so decided to stop in today. TFTC
Cache 796 quite an overgrown little area with broom now but still a nice little walk to stretch the legs. My gps bounced around a little bit so it was down to the geo senses to find it, not a hard find, cache is in great condition T4TC
Slowly picking up all the Wonders as I travel south. Thanks Onslow Fisherman for the history, who knew you knew more than just fishing. RIP.
Couldn’t find it despite 3 people looking. Quite overgrown so couldn’t see sleepers or gravel.
Nice hide and a nice write up i could see the gravel that was placed to support the rails a nice history lesson TFTC
Approached this cache on foot from the southwestern side of the nearby bridge. Which meant I had to clamber down a bank and then forge a way through shrubberies and blackberries, only to discover there was a perfectly usable access road right on the other side of the bridge. Humpf.
The cache was quickly located and in surprisingly good state.
After signing the log, I walked back to Milton over the track. Think of this what you want, but it surely was a lot safer than walking along SH1...

Thanks I remember looking for this very early in my caching days with no luck but today with my rain coat on. It was raining but they do help with pickles. I have a find.
I love reading the cache page about the history of trains in the area. Now we just drive. A pity really but not the population.

.Prickles and thorns. Finally got this one tagged without too many jabs. Cheers
Its Wednesday 24 April and we are off exploring Milburn, Lawrence and Lake Mahinarangi today. Awesome!!
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Thorn bush? Really??
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

Yay finally found. Was not simple, quick or easy. I had to Phone a friend, who was the last finder. Turns out where I had scrambled down to was correct but the container had been buried over time by debris. The hint was kind of right but I would have said behind former sleeper in a 'cave'. A new logbook and bag was placed as the last one was little water logged. Once got within 7m put down the device and follow the hints.
Had a great time also collecting blackberries along the bank here.

another DNF my day has been full of ...either heavy rain or DNFs this was about the 4th!
Second time looking for this one the first time it had been raining a I got soaked just trying to look for it. But to day was nice and dry and only took a few minutes to find. TFTC
We drove down to GZ,and saw that it was going to be tricky to find in all that long grass,so clambed over into the Bushes, but it didn't take very long to spot the Cache. While there a Train rumbled past. What must the Driver think we were doing just there...TFTH
*24 Apr 17 Logged.* Returned to the Fisherman's railway GZ with a spare con after searching the uprooted earthworks along the embankment for the plastic before. Found a nice dry hide at the GZ that was created after the earth-movement at the horrible bush and threw down the con I removed from Deb's [Puaho](https://coord.info/GC4BKBF) GZ that DOC had poached. *Ahem one cache per GZ if you please, or at least ask for permission from the owners lol.* New cache is a 300ml clear tuppaware with bagged log and some swag. There was no sleeper handy, apart from a discarded concrete one further away - wheep no chance of lifting that behemoth though the hide shouldn't require any anchor if it's respected.
Glad I crossed the border 'north of the line' to replace this one to keep Jim's railway caches going. Thanks for the smilie Jim and the reason to visit another of [The Roxburgh Branch (Railway) Series.](https://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=f3950fd1-6f90-436e-b8e0-73af55a49117)

As I walked along the track a goods train went by. I crawled down under the hawthorn (prickly) bush and searched. I found an upright piece of rail line, but no sleeper and no cache . Masses of greenery to negotiate. DNF!
I wanted to add, that someone else was here recently. Today or yesterday, most likely, as there was a fresh track to GZ through the grass. I wonder if they found the cache, or not?
We didn't have any trouble reaching the GZ with a newly widened track leading down from the busy road and big turn around area. Gained the bank and searched under the hint for the hints and didn't find a cache. A shame this one hadn't been found this season and we returned to throw down a cache since it hadn't received any visits or updates in a month from any of the locals. I SL with the little woman to keep this one going for her friend. TFTC Jim, someone cared enough.
I decided to walk the short distance from the main road. The bidibids are really growing and there was no obvious sign for which side to make my approach.
Excellent day's exploration around the Balclutha area. A touch a Spring in the air, lambs in the paddock and daffodils not far away from flowering.
Enjoyed getting off the beaten track to find this one

Should've thought twice about driving the car down but somehow didn't get stuck and came away with a smiley. Tftc
The last time we visited New Zealand in 1998, we missed the Milford Sound because of lack of time.
Now, as W is working in Sydney and C is visiting him, it was very close by.
So we decided to turn her visit into a small New Zealand vacation.
And off course this can't be done without a few geocaches.
A few turned into about 150 of them.
We started in Queenstown, but this time no bungy jumping anymore.
At the airport we switched the gsm-card to a NZ one, with internet access.
That way we would be able to check for recent logs and spoiler photos.
After we got our rental car we started the gps.
We're not used to driving on the left side of the road, but that was no problem with all the road signs.
During our last visit it was summer, now it was autumn.
The weather looked more like home, but we had our umbrella and raincoat with us, which we used a lot.
At the Milford Sound the rain was an advantage, as the rainfalls were huge.
This one was easy to find

Had to abandon car and walk to GZ as a tad bit overgrown for a non 4WD. Took a bit longer than anticipated but found in the end. TFTC
finally found it after rummaging in the overgrowth, nice wee walk. found with jodiandben
I was going to terminate the visit to this cache but I was convinced to drive along which was good advice as it turned this into a park and grab. Another interesting spot. TFTC #7213
Parked on the old line and a brisk walk along it quickly made for a find. HOTA
Tftc the scrub has all been cut back easy park and grab now cheers but the prickly bush is still prickly ouch
A few caches on my way from Invercargill to Dunedin airport to pick up 'Mr' 2wombles. Another minute for a 400-minute challenge cache, Thanks for the cache.
Counting this one as a moral 'find' as the area is now so overgrown Roger was risking falling on his ar*e even getting to the hint and as he's the only driver we don't need him with a broken leg. Having looked back at previous logs this site has obviously been getting more overgrown and cachers need a machete to get to it - Singapore Airlines wouldn't let us bring ours with us
Found but no book. Have left paper as register. Will need a pen. Quite over grown.
Great day for a spot of caching on our return from the airport. Stunning day and great cache location, TFTC OF
Found the path and walked to it. Hard going as the weeds had grown quite thick and not sure of my footing. So got a bit wet although the rain had stopped. TFTC
Had a nice walk along the farm track collecting the cache and some broom seeds. TftC
