Out in the PeuGEOt today with Mrs Cogs collecting a number of the goldmine caches around Creswick. So sad the history of this mine.TFTC
What an interesting spot, sharing the sad history of this mine. Thanks for sharing with us stashaa.Wonderful that this oldie is still in play.
Find#5895Nice hiding place What a awesome weekend on a trip to Ballarat and surrounds Thanks for the cache
Today we found Australasian Mine Tragedy on our travels. Out caching with BeckNmonts. Found while doing the adlab here. Thanks stashaa for being part of our geocaching fun.
Another stop on my adventure with Nelz and little goat today. Quite a serene location given the history, a nice spot to stop and learn more about our goldmining history.Nice quick find and on to our next stop. Thanks for the cache
Hubby got out of the car, no rain, 50 steps down the path and the skies opened on him, again. This is a great cache location. 'SL TFTC
Such a stunning location! Geocaching truly leads me to amazing places; otherwise, I might have missed out on this spot. I had the area all to myself today, allowing me to leisurely read through the information boards and explore the nearby monuments.
I also noted there's an AdLab that comes through here, giving me a reason to return another day – yay! Found and signed the cache, then placed it back where I found it. A definite favorite point for this interesting site. Many thanks, Stashaa!

Again I found myself moping about at home trying to decide which boring chore I should tackle next. Instead I browsed through the geocache website and made a decision to tackle the 28 day streak, this months challenge souvenir. So it looks like I will have plenty of caching trips away over the next few weeks. I had so much fun on a recent trip to Mt Beckworth and another to do feathertops letterbox series that I decided to head down this way again. With no particular targets in mind I simply tackled the first I came across.
There is lots to read here explaining the history of the mine and the disaster. An interesting visit and a mercifully quick cache considering the weather.

Between the planting event at Lake Calembeen and lunch at the American, a group of us headed up the road a bit to tackle the Adventure Lab and caches around the Australasian Mine.
A nice walk in to find this decent sized cache... and now we're officially late for lunch.
Totally worth it for the history and the smiley.
Thanks, stashaa.

What a sad loss of life. We hope the outcome of the inquest helped to pave the way for better safety and working conditions for our ancestors.
This tragedy affected the lives of many thousands of those left behind.
Thank you for bringing us here today. Found with n0w0rries, EveTheStaffy, nirgalagrin, PrezDough and CeeJayDenno.
We also bumped into many of our geocaching friends that were also in town for the Tree Planting CITO. Now we're off to the American Hotel for a lunch event.

Today's mission was a CITO and lunch event followed by a few caches in the area. A quick find. Left swap
Thanks stashaa for placing for all to enjoy.

Found with n0w0rries, nirgalagrin and CJDenno. We met up at the CITO in Creswick and we started to find some caches and adventure labs before we go to an event. We arrived at GZ and quickly spotted the cache hidden away. We logged our names into the logbook and then looked for more caches to find.

Thanks for the history tour with these caches. Made a quick find.
Found at 2:25pm 13° and a misty drizzle after 37° yesterday! What a lot of sadness there must have been out here back then..

Good to find an old stashaa cache in this Australasian Mine Disaster Area. Thanks for the interesting historical cache notes. SL a at 2.14pm Left: gold deer pathtag - a nod to Mrs Harrowang’s forebears who were gold miners. #9405 TFTC stashaa
Moving to Ballarat over a couple of days and headed out for a change of scenery between deliveries. Took the walk to GZ and soon had the cache in hand. Log signed, cache re-covered and I was on my way.
Thanks stashaa...
Thanks stashaa...
Mr Dromaniax had been chatting with Donutholes during the day, and it was decided that a night caching trip to the Ballarat region was in order. We wanted to complete a few Adventure Labs and find some interesting caches before heading home. We were in the process of completing the Australiasian Mine Disaster Adventure Lab and were very close to this cache, and we diverted to find it. Good torches were helpful as the ground was quite uneven. Soon we spied a Geocamo pile, and we had the cache in hand. The cache is in excellent condition. Thank you for this cache stashaa.
At 8:15pm Mr Dromaniax and I started our trip to Ballarat for some night caching. On the way there we were deciding on where we were going as Creswick was the winner.
In the area completing a stage of an AdLab it made sense to to attack this one too.
Thanks for the history lesson, I really enjoyed learning something new tonight

Another day out with sassieold55 to gather some smileys, quite a few butterflies around here.Interesting read the info on the tragedy here so many years ago. TFTC
As we arrived at the gat another vehicle pulled up behind. I said hello and discovered they were looking for family connections. So after answering questions for the nearby adventure lab we headed to GZ and after a little circling while the GPSr settled we soon had the container. we signed the log and collected a trackable. Thanks to stashaa for the cache.
We visited this tragic mine site quite a few years ago before our Geocaching days. Thanks for bringing us back.
Geocaching certainly brings you to places you’d have never seen on your own. This is one.
A steady reminder of what can happen and a sad one at that.
Thank you for bringing us here.

This was a nice quick hide in a typical hide. Thanks for the cache and bringing us here. Such a shame.
e are out and about enjoying our new found freedom bouncing around the state doing a bit of cache maintenance.
We grabbed the lab in Ballarat that we didn't have and headed up to Creswick to do the one there stopping along the way for any others that popped up on the screen and generally enjoying getting out of Melbourne for the first time in a long time.
After picking up the two lab wpts we wandered off to get a different view of the area and also hopefully find a cache. The latter turned out to be quite easy as it was sitting out in the open and we spotted it as soon as we got close. After adding our name to the log we re hid it a little better to try and stop any UV damage.
Thanks stashaa for the cache, you don't often get three smilie's for one car park.

With two Events in Avoca, I decided a three day trip would be great, That would give Me time to explore the area and do a handful of the many caches on offer in this region. The weather was fantastic with nice sunny days but the nights sure were chilly with ice on the windscreen each morning. I saw many places and learnt a lot of history on the trip. The Main towns I visited were Avoca, Maryborough, Talbot, Clunes and Creswick.
Today I headed to Creswick where i visited several old mining sites, so much history in this area to learn.
This was one of the caches I found in My travels.

Found this decent-sized cache without difficulty. This was indeed a terrible tragedy. RIP those poor miners. TFTC.
Drive past this one all the time visiting my sister ... can see her house from here ... TFTC
The history lesson here was very interesting. There were lots of spiders webs to navigate as nearing gz, gps played up a bit too,but eventually settled and had cache in hand TFTC

Found easily enough, the story was so sad and the memorials were quite fitting
Hit the road for a gorgeous June morning to get some caches! We stopped for this one whilst getting a few in the area. What a gorgeous place and an amazing bit of history. We were getting the cache while master 7 ran off "I am going to climb the hill" - little did we quite realise exactly how big is was when we lost sight of him up there! TFTC TNLNSL, CIGC
This was an interesting place to visit, but was a little tricky navigating considering we were all wearing thongs and it looked like perfect snake territory. Cache was located and returned as found. TFTC
Today we head to Melbourne. I was up early again before we left, and made one last foray out this way to see how many more caches I could find. I’m getting to know the road between Creswick and Daylesford pretty well by now. No problems finding the cache, had a quick look at the various plaques as well. Cheers and TFTC
Finally with a day just for myself while i was home with 2 weeks long service leave , i took the geodog and myself out for some cache hunting around the Creswick area.
Quick find. Interesting but sad history here. Thx Stashaa ftc. CIGC TNLNSL.

Having a wonderful time in the general area of Creswick exploring many of the old mine sites. This place brings home very sharply the dangers miners faced in the search for gold A lovely area to remember the 27 who could not escape in this disaster TFTC stashaa
Cache up here last Wednesday when the temperature was hovering around four degrees and this morning was not much warmer if you looked at the puddles that we drove through as they were covered in ice.
Again I am caching with au.fait and we had a wonderful day changing lots of caches into smiley faces.
We only stopped for a cuppa and some nibbles during the day and completed all the caches that were on our list in this area.
Dinner and a beer and wine was had at Buninyong on out way back to Geelong at the local on the corner. Great meal but pays to be early.
Creswick is looking a happier place now with all these new smiley faces looking at me and a new milestone for the ageing Bushfire as the 8000 mark was passed today.
All caches were signed with au.fait and BF. Gee what a way to earn a living, very dangerous.
Thanks to stashaa for placing and maintaining this cache.

We walked to find this well hidden cache, reading the many signs on our way and soon found the appropriately hidden cache. What a terrible tragedy this was for the 22 men, their wives and all their children. Thanks you for the informative notes and bringing us here to see the site.

Found with the intrepid BSSGeokidz! (3 different groups over time so thought it good to actually log the find) A great hide.
Find #1660 for me. Found at 1:35 pm while taking some annual leave to find some caches. Today I was concentrating on caches that are difficult to get to with the kids on board. This particular cache would normally be easy with children, but when I visited here with the kids a couple of weeks ago they were complaining very loudly and I didn't want to leave them alone in the car so had to abandon this one before even getting out of the car! So today I wanted to make amends!
Wow, the history associated with this location is incredible and so tragic. The story really does bring home the dangers of mining. My ancestors came to Australia as tin miners who decided to try their luck finding gold, but thankfully weren't involved in any tragedies such as this one.
Once at GZ I made a quick find here today. Thanks for bringing me to this very interesting memorial today stashaa, and thanks for the cache!

#14095. Another full day of caching around the Ballarat area with Robmc. Today we did a few at Miners Rest, visited a Christmas Tree and did an odd few at Creswick after our late lunch. Man, that wind was strong though - strong enough to blow the freckles off your face.
Thank you for highlighting some of Creswick's mining history with this cache. Such a sad tragedy with the loss of so many lives. Without this cache we would not have known about or come to this site. Cache found and log signed.

The second full day in Ballarat and surrounds with BettyBoo3747.
Today we went through Miners Rest and then to the Christmas series. We then had a late lunch in Creswick, and a few caches around town to finish off.
Mining is the main industry with the worst health and safety record - it's a dangerous job.
A very sad tale here. We read all the boards and plaques and grabbed the cache.
Thanks, Robmc.

Following a tour of a few nearby mines in the district,
me inner geologist was wondering ....
A) What were they mining ?? and ...
B) Why deep lead mining ??
Still puzzled,
I headed to this mining site.
After a stroll around the memorials,
and info signs,
I now know what was going on around here
A bit sad that so many died.
But on the plus side,
I now know why these mines were established.
And in me geologically interested little mind,
I am still wondering how on Earth the miners ever worked out what had happened under their feet so many thousands of years ago !!
Smart cookies those early miners !!
I suspect a bit of knowledge from previous goldfields crept in here
And a lot of geological knowledge [^]
TFTC.
I gotta give this one a fave point !!

Great place to see had no clue the mine was here worth a trip up the mound great hide
Our last full day of caching on our excursion to the big island and we decided we didn't want to cache in town so we found our way out to this area to see how many we could get. The tally for the day was 35 GC finds, apologies for the generic logs. TFTC
4/5/17 - A great spot that now has a smiley on the map This is one of many caches I targeted and found today.
I certainly took an interesting route after leaving the fabulous Wozzle68 this morning in Ballarat, and I travelled through many back roads and small towns with the thought that I would end up in Bendigo for a couple of nights, but nope, I ended up in Castlemaine to complete an earthcache, and then in Wedderburn to do a nightcache and others with the lovely micaparamedic....my, how plans can change after just one phonecall!!
Certainly a lovely day caching.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've had a big, but generally a relaxing couple of weeks away in Victoria.
Ballarat, Border track, Pinnaroo, Bendigo, Wedderburn, Swan Hill, Maryborough, Mt Beckworth and Mt Gambier are just a few of the spots I have visited during my caching trip. There was an emergency room visit, loads of driving, stacks of laughter, amazing food, lots of new learnings (oh my goodness!!), and a wonderful mix of fabulous people.
I am loving this country and getting out and about in it!
Thanks for the cache stashaa!

Beautiful day in Creswick and what better than such an interesting history regarding this area. Going to be a wonderful day. TFTC
TFTC. We had come to Creswick to complete the Deep Lead Mine series. First we had better remember a mining disaster. We had seen the memorial to the 22 miners in the nearby cemetery while we were finding information for the Victorian Premier WIG.

After setting up camp in Creswick, our plan for the afternoon was to open the many green boxes stretching from Creswick to Smeaton on our map. There is a wealth of info in the cache notes, which helped us understand the dangerous working conditions the miners faced. A FP for such a meaningful placement.
Our thanks to stashaa for placing this cache.

I had come up to Ballarat for an event and then went onto Creswick to visit a grave at the nearby cemetery so it was fitting to have a read of the information boards near the cache informing visitors of the history of the site and the tragic loss of life as a result of some very hard and dangerous work.
Thanks for this nice-sized cache, stashaa, you don't find many regular sized caches in Melbourne.

Visiting this mine site, reading the information provided and seeing the avenue of trees in the memorial work were stark reminders of the dangers of mining and the strength of the lure of finding gold. Accurate coordinates led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks stashaa for the cache.
