I wasn't planning on caching today, but had a last minute invite to meet my Son, and his family, for dinner at an all you can eat place in Woden ... and after dinner I decided that going and having another go at a certain pesky cache on a bridge might be a good way to walk off a very full tummy - found that one, and another nearby, then figured I may as well find the other couple traditional a that were sort of nearby, while it was nice and quiet, but nice outside
This would have been #4 ... if I had found it ... should have been easy, from the logs/etc ... parked nearby, wandered in, phone pointed me to the obvious - had a quick look, found nothing, looked in a few other spots, still nothing - read the hint ... which made it kind of obvious that it should be where my phone first told me ... otherwise why would it need to have a certain property that the hint said it did ... but there was no sign of any cache there ... actually there was what may be a sign of one having been there - a slight rectangular mark in a corner, that may have been made by something having been there ... So maybe it has finally been muggled? ... or maybe I was more tired/etc than I thought and I missed the obvious or something ...
If someone else finds it then I will have to kick myself in the behind, and then come back for another look - lol
Thanks for the visit to an interesting spot - I had not heard about those floods until I read the cache description and the sign (I was born before they happened, but at the time I had not even been to Canberra yet ...)
btw, is it just me, or is it kind of weird that the street that runs right down to the flood memorial is called DRY Street?!

I am new this and had issues with the app, which keeps crashing. It is posted found it from 7 Jan, but that's not true. I could not locate it after looking for a good 15mins all around the area. I assumed being magnetic, the sign or chair were the likely candidates.
A good easy find while hubby and I walked the dog. What a tragic piece of history though, glad they fixed the problem. No pen with us today so couldn't sign the log. TFTC!
Found 6:53 pm with x_mscake. It is my eldest geodaughters birthday today. So she wanted to go to a seafood restaurant out at Woden. So I figured I would add the cache finding to the trip in that area. This cache came up as a good candidate so drove off to find a spot near GZ. The bus lane though was a pain ended up having to park further away than I wanted but never mind. X_mscake geodaughters BF came along with us and after couple hundred metre walk soon arrived at GZ. I had a pretty good idea where the cache was likely to be as GZ came into view. Confirmed and I like quick finds when time is important. We sat on the nearby bench enjoying freezing cold metal (not) that our cheeks protested and tried to escape. Signed the log and duly replaced the cache. Whilst we were there we read about the history and the sad events. Geocaching sometimes takes you to fascinating places and other times it does bring these sad history items.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
#630. 212 days in a row.
I'm finally catching up on logging my finds from earlier in the year. I hope I've got all the dates right, but I've definitely found all of these caches and kept my streak going as long as I'm logging it.

Thanks for bringing us here. A lovely tribute. We had lunch here and were most thankful for the rest. Thank you.
My first ACT find
After staying with my muggle cousin I was talking about geocaching and the app showed 2 caches nearby. Good excuse for a walk, so off we went. On the way down here my cousin started talking about the drownings that had happened here, this was something I had never heard of before. And of course that's where the cache was. Found it straight away in the first place I looked. I think my cousin was amazed as she would have walked her dogs past here many times.
And there were pirate coins in the cache too! A lovely coincidence as we had been on a boat in Sydney the day before and the pirate theme had been running hot.
Signed log. Thanks for the cache! A beautiful area around here, but then again so much of Canberra is spacious and awesome.

A sad story. Thanks for bringing me here. As a quick note, Attorney General's rearranged their site but didn't put in a URL redirector. The correct link to their entry for the flood is now:
https://www.emknowledge.gov.au/resource/?id=254
Also, there were complaints earlier this year about the maintenance of the memorial:
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/blen-mcinnes-says-woden-flood-memorial-has-been-neglected-20150125-12w1in.html
Although those seem to have been resolved (the memorial was in a nice state when I went there today).
Thanks again for the cache.

Very clever. Loved it thankyou. Didn't know that it was a memorial here and funny thing my teacher died in those floods !
It was good to read up about the memorial and nice that the council erected and maintains it. Thanks Melia's Slaves
TFTC. Nabbed today while cruising the bikeways. Thanks for bringing this memorial to my attention.
Considering it was an overcast and miserable day, my grandad and I decided to do some urban caches. We parked nearby and walked on over. We had a look and a read of the memorial before searching for the cache: interesting. Nice easy find. Thanks for taking us here!
The threat of rain today wasn't enough to put me off an afternoon's caching around Curtin. We've had so little lately that I only half believed it would eventuate. But it did & the cool and damp conditions weren't unpleasant. Rain also means no muggles !
There's a bit of a natural circuit of caches around this suburb that I was keen to try. I used to run though here quite a bit in younger (and fitter) days, so I was familiar with the area.
I'd not visitied this site before. I knew of the original incident but not realised there was a memorial. Nice to see it. Tftc Melia's Slaves.

I had a bit of time to kill in the area so went for a stroll and picked this one up. TFTC - I am also new to Canberra, but had no idea about this - a lovely memorial
5 of 6 found with the geokiddie...this tragedy happened before my time so knew nothing about it, very sad...TFTC
Found at 1750 - with another hole in the calendar to fill today I headed for this one as a (hopefully) easy urban find in the dark. As the distance on the GPSr counted down to GZ there was really only one spot it could be and the container was quickly located by touch. I took your advice and sat on the bench to sign the log - a couple of degrees colder and I might still be there! (certainly cold enough to bring a flush to the cheeks [:o)]). As the log was full I signed and added a new strip of paper so the fun could continue. Thanks for the cache mark_rattigan.
I have been eyeing this one off for a while now, and today was very cold and very miserable so I wanted a cache that I didnt have to spend too much time in this horrid weather.
I parked nice and close and made a quick retrieval of this one. Had a quick look at the memorial and took some photos so I can look some more at home. Was too cold to hang around.
Thanks for the cache Melia's Slaves, I would recommend a log replacement as soon as possible however as I signed along another cachers section.

Thanks for this one! A very thoughtful geocache, and a nice and discreet hide but I reckon a few muggles would even find this one.
A repose from the flood of life and work. I've whirled past a thousand times and never noticed this little still ness.
I remember this vicariously, I arrived in Canberra to live two years to the day after this event, and it was still a hot topic on conversation!! Thanks for the cache!! I knew there was a memorial, but I'd never been to it. It is very tasteful.
Milestone!!! Milestone!!! 450. I hadn't realised it, I've had to come back and edit this log!!!

Thanks mark_rattigan for this cache. It was a tragic event and I love this memorial.
Found. TFTC. I remember the event but did not know there was memorial here.
Didn't know about these floods, thanks for bringing us to the lovely memorial. TFTC.
This is the way a memorial should be built - very classy Beautiful but tragic site. Nice quick find on a bike ride to Woden. Thanks for cache.

Find 17 of 18 for the day and #1600 in total.
Wow, we knew nothing about this cache before we got here but after reading the info at GZ we have to give out a favourite point for bringing us here.
Echo 11 - Spice 6
("\(0o0)/") Thanks for the caching fun!

Lovely spot I didn't know existed before finding this cache. Prob needs a new log book.
Thanks for the info and bringing me to this lovely memorial. God Bless... hide well.. thank
Thanks for the info and bringing me to this lovely memorial. The cache looked like it may have been muggled although it was still intact. Gumby Maca relocated it. TFTC.
We spotted this one, just a little exposed and open, but all dry and ready for our scribbles. I recall being told about this tragedy a while back, and sitting here reading all the names and ages of those who were lost that day brought a shiver. Never realised there was a memorial here, thanks for bringing us here mate. Log signed, and positioned a little tidier.
I love these caches, you know from about 50mtrs out where its going
to be:-) Nice memorial

Surprising and saddening to read about the reason for the memorial.
A quick find on my first day back in Canberra for a while.
Thanks.

Thanks.
With Geokids on bikes and geodog met up with Sitehounder and geokid to do a few while there was a break in the weather. Nice and easy one to start the dag. TFTC.
Yay! 400th find for me.
Geokid and I met up with Mack96 and her two kids to do a few caches along this piece of path. An easy find and then on to some of the Curtin Connection series. TFTC

Saturday 14 September 2013 - another beautiful spring day with storm clouds gathering in the distance and adhoc droplets of rain threatening every so often. Quick & easy find. Thx p2p. TFTC.
Geocache #667.
Found on Monday, 9th September 2013 at 8:11 PM.
Conditions: clear.
Current streak #40 days.
Today's finds 50 of 52.
My 566th find for The Great Scouts Australia Geocaching Competition 2013. With just over a week of the competition remaining, I had some leave owing and decided to take it for a geo-adventure in the Australian Capital Territory and Canberra. What a way to celebrate Canberra's centenary, as well as the Federal election!
On day two of my trip, and after completing the NRL power trail early this morning, I continued the search for more in the evening. Once at GZ, it was a quick find and I soon had the CIH and signed the log. It was sad to read about the tragic loss of young lives, RIP. TFTC mark_rattigan.

Long delayed logging, signed as robd. An interesting but somewhat forgotten memorial. TFTC.
