TFTC. With the prediction of a lot of rain over the next few days we decided to attempt this one today. A drive over some hard packed track and we soon had this cache in hand. A sad story marked the beginning of the short walk to the cairn. Glad to see the history respected.
I had meant to bring a replacement log book but completely forgot.
I had meant to bring a replacement log book but completely forgot.
The cache was open & the log book wet when we got there. I closed it up but couldn't do anything about the wet logbook.
We followed a sign off the road to 'Dalys', ended up here and a cache...
Such a sad story.

A scenic detour along a twisty road between the paddocks,
took me to this memorial hidden in the bush
I read the sign at the start of the short walk,
and was quite surprised at what went on out here !! [:o]
A sad tale for sure !!
Human emotions can go a bit haywire sometimes
By the sad pile of rocks I quickly found the cache nearby

This is one of the caches we found, among the history lessons and interesting scenery, as we returned to Creswick, after the "9 Months to the Event in Alexandra" lunch in Wedderburn. Such a moving story.
Apologies for such delayed and generic logs, we have experienced a severe computer malfunction.
Thanks graham54 for placing caches for everyone's enjoyment.

Suscoe was up and about early today.
Another beaut Summer's day with an eventual top temp of 30 degrees in the North Central Highlands.
We were heading homewards via a few caches which we had on our list.
Thanks to graham54 for this hide.
A delightful piece of local history and nicely told.
We had fun finding our way in here from the west.

Wow, what a surreal place, to know that poor Ellen was murdered right under those rocks. Thanks for the interesting piece of history and the cache. This is what caching is all about.
With Christmas nearly upon us we had the opportunity to do what we love the most and that is caching around our beautiful countryside. We finally hit Maryborough where we planned to stay overnight and find as many caches in the area that time would allow. We both were fascinated by this sad story that took part here and glad to see a memorial to celebrate Ellen's life with the added bonus of a cache to bring this small piece of history to a wider audience.
Thanks graham54 for the info, a favourite added.

Out today with McLookers, a short walk to GZ where the cache was located. Had no idea that this sad event happened here. The wild flowers were beautiful around this area, especially the blue cornflower. Giving this one a favourite , a great piece of history
What a sad story. Found with Motndarg while in the area this afternoon. Thanks graham54.

A little bit of bush bashing to get to this location but the geovehicle wound its way through all obstacles just nicely.

A great cache, found on father's day after a picnic at the Grand Duke mine.

Caching today with the kids in and around Timor with becca85 and kids as our guides. What an amazing (tragic) piece of history here - thanks heaps for highlighting this historical spot. We luckily had a 4WD as my car would never have made it in otherwise! Many thanks
This was a fun first casche, went on a wild goose chase but had a friend who's played before.
Well, what a sad, sad story. Found the cache quite quickly, after we finally found the track and way in, this should be for 4WD's only, as our car only JUST made it along some of the tracks. But it was worth all the angst getting to the spot to see the cairn and read the sad tale. TFTC. SL. took a small toy swap and left a card and a loom-band. Thanks for bringing us to this site, it was worth it. ps. lucky we didn't decide to walk all the way in. Cheers.
TFTC. A short drive off road and then we decided to walk 200m to find the rocky memorial.

Dont go without a GPS as we thought we were lost. did some damage to our car on the way back out but that just a GeoScar. Thats for the remote location adventure.

What a tragic tale of misplaced love. Such a tragedy. Fitting tribute but sad story tftc
What a sad moment of local history, we all (5 in the family) read the story and were saddened by the outcome. We did manage a smilie though, thanks graham54 for the cache and for bringing us here.
Travelling around Australia with our Cat.
Staying in Dunolly we decided to head out today and explore the local area using Geocaching.
We read the sign and reflected before approaching. Such sad times.
Wow so much history in this region and so many gold digging holes!
Thanks for placing your cache to assist with our touring of the area, and feeding our geoaddiction. graham54

Leaving the area after a fabulous birthday weekend, had to collar some caches and this was one of them. Thank you for bringing us to this very historical area, easily found with Bentley TB

Our last cache of the day on our way home from the Wedderburn Events on the weekend. We headed off to find this one with Misscheif18. We tried one way and couldn't get in so we tried a second road and it became a no through road so we thought 3rd time lucky and it was but found it hard going in place with our little geomobile Ford Fiesta. We eventually got there and after a short walk we found the memorial. Such a sad story. Cache was an easy find. Now to find our way back through these multiple tracks and believe it or not we found an easier way out that wasn't as rough, always the way.

Found with The 2 Wanderers after a weekend in Wedderburn. This was our last cache for the day. Found it difficult to find the way to the memorial, especially in a 2WD. But, due to great driving by Mrs Wanderer, we did find our way and we found the cache easily. Took 500 finds badge and left a gnome, troll, top and friendship braid. I could feel the sadness and the grief here. Such a sorry story. Found our way out much easier, as usual. TFTC
We are excited to be on our way to Wedderburn for the annual events on Saturday and geocaching here for the weekend. It's always a great weekend of fun and fellowship!
We found your cache The Memorial on 17/04/2015 1:48 pm. This is our find #4259 and find #5 today.
What an interesting site. Read the sign. Actual cache an easy find, getting there, more tricky.
The cache is in good shape.
Thanks graham54 for the cache!

Can't quite imagine wattle to pick out here! Thanks for the cache & bringing us to this spot. Picked up TB to take a trip.
Out and about on a fine Good Friday morning exploring the area near Maryborough. What a sad and inhospitable place to die! Still many signs of gold mining here. Signed new log book at 9.30am Took: Spidy TB, and will get him a new figure attached hopefully, and 2001 - 50 cent coin. Left: friends of the Arkaroo TB and 500 finds cloth patch. Also left a new log book to replace all the scrappy pieces of paper. We left the old log sheets in a separate plastic bag. #2830 TFTC graham54 and alerting us to this tragic event.

Easy find after a bumpy drive with GeoKids x3. Another local spot that I had never heard of. TFTC
Kids took loom necklace & Mammoth toy and left Troll & Squinkee.
No trackable in the cache.

Rip Ellen, such a tragic story.. But a good find. Wear your hiking boots guys.

RIP Ellen. Such a beautiful , yet lonely, place to die. If wet or has recently rained and coming in from dunolly/maryborough rd onto simson rd, best to leave "normal" vehicles at the land for wildlife gate and walk the tracks in. 1.4 km walk but well worth the peacefulness of nature.
Hubby had found this one once before as a Muggle so went there today to show me. Tragic story of love.
Did a little maintenance for Graham54 and destroyed the pornography that had been left by Muggles, and repaired the cairn a bit too.

Found it after a fairly long drive through the bush on an unmarked, and sometimes, fairly rough track. We approached from the Maryborough Dunnolly Road, probably shorter and easier from Bowenvale Timor side. An intersting cached with a tragic story. TNLN, TFTC.
Thanks for such an interesting story ...poor Ellen .....was able to drive to within 70mtrs ...all good in there ..TFTC..now back to Tarnagully camping @ the showground ..Only ones here over Easter ..amazing ..but happy with that ...so much history all around ....
Nice drive through the bush in this beautiful afternoon. Nice quick find before lunch with the March flies. Took tb. Thanks
Found it finally after second look lAst time come from other side of ridge. Nice to know the story left a slinky and the travel bug that we got in dunolly
Found with MissJane, MonMon & Trout.
Had a couple of new cachers with us for the drive around the local area. Doing what all Cachers do. Using Billion Dollar Technology, Looking for Bits of Plastic in the Bush.
We had a local on board and he didn't even know about this cairn for Ellen. Read the board and made our way up the track. Found the cairn and then spotted the cache hide.
Thanks for bring us to this beautiful part of the country.
TB "Scrat" visited your cache whilst on his Great Aussie Adventure.

What a sad event. I'd never seen this before. Thanks for sharing some local history. Now I've gotta find a way out of here.
Found on the way home from the Wedderburn 2013 event with Fergzter. What a bit of History and a bit spooky thanks for showing it to us. TFTC.
Oh man... spooky. A cool place, that if not for geocaching I would never have come across. Thanks for showing us some of the local history Graham54
Driving through the bush wondered if we were on the right trail then I spotted a small sign, we pulled up and read the information then took a short walk to the memorial pile of rocks how sad the story was hope to ask my father what he knew of this piece of history very interesting TFTC
Took a nice drive through the bush, tracks not wet so my AWD easily negotiated the holes! Wondered why a cache would be hidden in the middle of no where till we spotted the isolated sign! Enjoyed ready the story and then approached the gz with a little shiver! Wondered if there was any blood left under all those rocks and then spotted the cache, signed log, returned and got out of there!! TFTC
Very sad story. Bit like Romeo & Juliet. Doomed lovers.
Although 2 TB's were logged here, only found 1. Thumb drive was nowhere to be found.

What a sad story. Impressive memorial, thanks so much for bringing me out here. Left a tb, took a bouncy ball
Maintenance check done for the CO, all well although listed TB is not there.
They say you learn something new every day as I did to day. Thanks for the info and TFTC.
An interesting location, never new it existed. I ended up driving all round the area and having a detect for gold as well. I had more luck finding the cache than I did gold.
Another hot day on our visit to Victoria.
Follow tracks into the forest but eventually ran our of usable tracks so walked the last 700 mts in to the cairn. A very lonely and quiet spot. Thanks for the story and the cache.
