No luck... looked for ages with my boys in all the obvious spots and (some less obvious ).... all we found was people in the same area playing pokemon go
Seems like an easy one to find, but I can't see it today... No activity for some time.
Thanks so much for the history ...so sad ....
Never knew of this memorial.
Easy find thank you.

Easy find thank you.
This cache has shown me a memorial I did not know existed. Quick find. Dry log sheet. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. BJ25. Find # 1647
TFTC Had no idea this beautiful memorial was here. Thanks for recommending the book too.
Didn’t realise this memorial was there, so good to see it and reflect on the unfortunate events that took place so many years ago. And good that the cache isn’t hidden in the memorial itself. Found it more-or-less straightaway. #1669. TFTC.
In Christchurch for the weekend with my partner and while she is doing a 2 day course I came up with her as it is the perfect time to log lots of caches and try to log 2000 before next year. TFTC
I have been told be rustynz that its time to log my Christchurch finds
Came into town for a 3 day weekend of fun with a group of Westies (rustynz, gorby & jag50)
Sorry for the generic log - but thanks to the CO for creating and maintaining their caches.

Caching with Team West (rustynz, rebel98, gorby & jag50) day 1, of our wild weekend of fun in Christchurch
After hunting in one for what found like a long time, many searchers and no luck. It was only on increasing our search area to the other one, when jag50 soon found the cache
Thanks for the hide and the history.
The TB has been collected and moved on to other adventures

Down in Christchurch for a few days with Gorby, Rebel98 and RustyNZ. We visited this area late at night. Spent some time searching first one and then another. The dark was no help of course. Finally Mrs Kag50 found the elusive cache. Thanks for the cache and the history. Previously knew of this event form the mum of a friend.
A group of us West Aucklanders came down to Christchurch for 3 days of caching fun and adventures. Today we happen to be rustynz, Rebel98 and Jag50 x2 and myself Gorby. We do this on a frequent basis… go away for 3 days here there and everywhere, hire a car and go for it caching. Thanks for the cache.
We were really keen to find this one to keen the travel bug moving but we hunted for 15min with no luck
Found quite quickly in first place I looked but short arms made retrieval and replacement a little tricky! Cache is in good condition. We left a TB for the next finder to move along and rehid well. Thanks for bringing us here it is a lovely memorial, tftc!
Yay... we found it!!! Took a while.. always so exciting to find... thank you for bringing us here to remember these people... and mostly woman... very sad.. lest we forget
Tried looking above ground level. So many great spots to hide it at. It was in none of them.
The travelling fox is sad =u,u=

We had a trade me pick up in the eastern suburbs, so StreetWalker and I took the opportunity to find a cache or two in the area beforehand.
Was a bit worried when I saw the likely hiding place. I have trouble finding small sized caches hidden in these locations, so anticipated that it would take a bit of effort to find a micro, but luckily it was an instant find - phew!
A sad piece of Chch history; it must have been devastating for the city. I hadn't realised this nice wee memorial was here so thank you for bringing me here and TFTC.

#13465. It's well worth having a cache here to bring people to this interesting memorial. TFTC.
Hideeho Thanks For The Cache:) Greetings from the USA. Stopped by for some cache, a "Spirit Cache" always special.

Been learning about NZ disasters from several caches I've found lately. Don't know if that's a **dividend** or not.
The GPS tried to play tricks on me here. First lead me to the right area, then changed it's mind and lead me back to the trees by the road. Then back to others again. Found the cache in the last tree I searched, of course.
Thanks for the cache!

Widened my search and managed to locate the cache. Have enjoyed these cemetery ones today. Have learned a lot. Tftc
We were in the area before for an event but never got around to finding this one and a few others in the area. Today was the day to hopefully clean them up. Finally found our way to GZ by driving and soon set to the search. After I had casually searched one location Chelzea had a better look and found the cache after my man look again. Lovely area but apart from us not a soul visiting.
Great to learn a bit of history about this tragic event. My gps coordinates had me looking in the wrong tree. Change of tack and it was soon found
Cache 28. Didn't know this wee memorial existed. Thanks for leading me here. TFTC
Sun goes down. Torches came out. Found it in the end thanks to my beautiful girlfriend. Had to get rid of the giant spider in the way
This city certainly has had its share of tragedy over the years.
A quick find
Thanks

Looked in all the wrong places to begin with, stood back and had a think. Saw something odd, thought "what's that doing there?" on closer inspection it was just what I was looking for.
Out with Lunar4. Needed a torch to find this one as it was getting dark. So sad to see the names on the plaque, esp those sharing the same names. TFTC & small history lesson.
Found this some time ago with my class from school. It is very close to my classroom. My Grandma (Sallies) is named after a lady who died in the Ballantynes fire just before she was born! . Thanks. Starza.
Thankyou for taking me to that memorial, it's very well done. Cache is all safe and comfy! TFTC.
I've looked for this cache on previous trips to Christchurch but had no success so was very pleased to find it today - well actually, it was the muggle husband! Anyway glad to have it checked off the list - very interesting site and memorial. TFTC
Took a wee bit of hunting and avoidance of the spiderwebs!! A lovely memorial, I never knew it existed. Learned something new today! TFTC
Took quite a while here but got there in the end. Tftc. Lovely area too so thanks for bringing us here.
Had to come into town to do some jobs today- so took a break from 'North of the Waimak' caches- and thought I'd grab a couple over this way. Had actually come by here some time ago, but didn't really try it because of all the fencing. Today it was a nice easy find- and nobody around. Day 88- closing in on my target of 100 day streak. tftc
As I approached GZ I thought I wasn't going to be tall enough but turns out I was plenty Tftc. Let's hope we get something as tasteful to remember Feb 22nd
Dam, Mr cacher is on fire today! We joined in on the cache search with another couple and Mr "find all the cachers today" found this 1. Thanks for the hide. TFTC
After work was done for the day I had time to find a few caches before I had to head to my hotel for the night. Time for an early evening walkabout in the cemetery. This was the last cache I found here. Thanks for bringing me to this historic and sad spot. TFTC, Biggles.
Called at the cemetery this morning to have a look at the WW1 servicemens' memorial and decided to pick up a couple of nearby caches at the same time. As I approached GZ I groaned at the number of possibilities for a hide but in fact I found it in less than a minute in the first place checked. Thanks for the cache and the interesting bit of history, I knew about the fire but I didn't know about this site.

Back in Christchurch for another couple of days of work. Arrived late last night, and spent all day at the client's site, it was nice to get out getting some fresh air after work. For once, New Zealand surprised with nice and reasonably warm weather.
The GPSr would not settle, and a search of all possible locations did not bring out any cache. It could be noticed that there must have been a recent gardening activity, with new mulch spread all over the place.
