Couldn't find. We were certain to be in the correct place. Might need checking by the owner
We walked the track in the reverse direction so this was the second to last cache for us. A very specific hint but no sign of the cache in the obvious location so we think this one might have gone.
Was in Whakatane for the long weekend with the family and mother in law. Decided to get up early and do the TGC walk while the rest of the house was still fast asleep. Did the required reading the night before and headed out as the sun started rising to commence the walk. Did not have too many troubles finding the caches I looked for. Only problem was I misjudged the length of the walk and the caches I was going to do on the way back I had to skip as need to be home by 10am. TFTC and for getting me out into the bush again! Really enjoyed the walk even though it did make me realise I am not as fit as I thought I was
Our second cache of the day. But our first cache on the Kohi point trail.
On a mission to walk and find caches along the track.
A nice easy find to get us started.

Good descriptions and hints, easy to find, excellent weather, caching is fun. Thanks CO
We do a part of the Kohi Point Walkway today. It's very windy, sunny and warm. The first one we found today.
We do enjoy the walk and the views very much.
Thanks CO

Found this today TFTC we walked the track from the Whakatane end out to the point and back again.
With wi-fi a bit sketchy I wasn't too sure if I should try for this one, as I had notes of a couple of DNFs, but guess what, a nice new cache container. Well hidden, as it is rather bright when uncovered! I assume that is the same cacher from "back home" - nice.

1353 (Somehow forgot that I hadn't logged the Find for this one) After a DNF last night, and noticing that I wasn't the only one, I contacted the CO, and offered to place a new on the only place that fits the additional Hint. I had bought a few containers on top of the few that I had brought with me over on holidays, and I certainly don't want to take too many home again.

2300 GAFF3 DNF While it has been ~40 years since I got my merit badge for tree identification, and some 35 years since it was refreshed for the NZ environment, it was interesting working the brain cells to recall the different trees mentioned in the TGC trail. Found the likely spot - nothing. Checked around, back and forth up and down the track, no other tree of that fitted the description, and patted, frisked, and probed (gently) for about 15 m either side along the track to ensure no cache creep. Nadda!
Continued on and enjoyed the moonless walk.

2300 NOTHING there where the Additional Hint says.

Fixspoun and I arrived today in Whakatane and went for a little walk. We found Alpha, Gamma and Delta, but had no chance with Beta...
Oh no! The last one for us (in reverse) and our one and only DNF on the track! It looks like there has been a whole lot of maintenance work done on the track very recently digging drainage so I'm wondering whether a contractor has perhaps found the cache container? Anyway, we ran out of enthusiasm to search for long as it was now a full on storm and we were keen to get back to the car. Thanks for the series Geckoh. Very enjoyable!
Teamed up with Spiderhouse to try and knock off a few more Eastern Bay caches. The weather held long enough for us to launch our assault...
On a mission to find the TGC caches. Have done this one already, but a first time visit for Spiderhouse. Cache is all good.

Out for the day with Squirrel Nutcase for an assault on Geckoh territory. The Squirrel has found this one before, but still he let us work for it.
Thanks Geckoh.
Thanks Geckoh.
Hot pork and mayo sandwiches now kicking in. GPS alarm went off and there it was. TFTC

Kiwi69 and I decieded that this was our challenge, so made an early start for Whakatane from home. It's now 7.30 and we can already see that the day is going to be a warm one.
After a steady climb this was our real first one of the walk.
Nice hide and nice find, a few runners about, generally heading back down

Out & about caching in Whakatane with C&D. Toi's circuit was our main objective for the day. Met lots of folk running down as we began our climb but thankfully no muggles as we grabbed the cache.
A quick easy find with good coordinates and hint. A nice sunny morning, unlike last time we were here when the rain became heavier and heavier and we were drenched. TFTC
Day 3 of the trip home to Christchurch, Whakatane to Te Araroa. The day is starting to warm up. Thanks for the hide
couldnt find this one, think i need to walk the track with someone more experienced in trees and geocaches anyone keen to walk the track
What a beautiful spring day for a walk along the Toi track! Spring is definitely here.
A weekend in Whakatane was the perfect time to tackle this series.
Thanks for placing the caches along this trail, with (in our opinion) very accurate coordinates and difficulty/terrain ratings.
Walked right past it at first. when we retraced our steps - there it was, waiting for us!
Thanks.

A lovely track, won't be doing all of it today but earmarking for another time. TFTC
Second cache find in this series. Thankfully, it was an easy find, as darkness was beginning to fall. Took the TB, and it's on the way back to Rotorua. TFTC.
Quick trip in at the end of the working day...would like to do more but was getting dark - another time
We spent a nice day walking part of the Nga Tapuwae o Toi Track. Great that we could find a lot of caches on our walk. Thanks!
Our first find on the track this morning; more people out using the track than we expected to find; TFTC.
Made the mistake of running up here from previous cache while lady waited in car. Bloody hills. Tftc.
Few other walkers on the track this morning, some possibly fellow cachers. Had to be stealth-wise here. Thanks for the cache and a neat hide!!
Last of the day as Mrs Pbslost insisting we turn around & go out for dinner.
Next time.....
Next time.....
Nice quick find - last one on the walk - back up to the Pa and then a walk down the road - Thanks for a great walk TFTC
Made the most of some sunshine to finish this end of the walk --- thank you for getting us here and TFTC!
Started on the TGC challenge tonight and visited the first 5 caches in the dark. A large tree across the track near the start. Found this one quite quickly with the hint. SL TFTC
Completed the whole series. Enjoyed the walk and views of all the bays. The weather held up well too thankfully. No caches posed any real difficulty's. Thanks for bringing me here.
Quick find at the beginning of the walk. The first cache with many more to follow!

We were in Whakatane on a lovely sunny day & ideal weather for such a challenge. The hint was helpful so a quick find. Now onto the next cache in this challenge

Out for Saturday jog – haha, walk, jog, walk, slip, climb, jog, walk etc…
Why did I start at West End ? I know it’s harder this way – definitely more ups.
No Prob's with the Totara - it could have been discribed as 'cute'

Me too FapAndGap, me too ...man there were heaps of little totaras there too...even the rewarewas were starting to look like them with headlamp fading and headtemp rising...thought I'd lost the plot but no, whew, doesn't look like Mr Geckoh has got back around...TT bike or kayak??
6.20pm - Took a little while to find, checked our co ords when we found cache, were S188 E210
I guess I am thinking of us older folk who are not as agile as you are. Given enough time this walk can be done with only moderate fitness.
As there was no pencil and nothing written on the log I wondered if Ruruwha had missed one. I revisited in the evening and found that it had been folded the other way and was signed on the other side. Mystery solved. Still needs a short pencil though.
This is a great walk and I hope it gets people visiting around it. Perhaps allow 3 hours min. and time it with the bus to return. Or bus over and walk back.
Also need to check the tide time for Otarawairere beach.

the tide thing is a good call, although it was high tide when I went round to place them and I did manage to keep the feet dry, Will replace the stolen pencil soon.
FTF at 2250...missed this on way up lots of little totaras...one a little further up the track it be.
