Rattll and I are heading south for the GeoToroa at Dunedin, but first spending some time caching around North Canterbury and Christchurch. We started in Cust this morning, and have landed in Rangiora this evening, but covered a lot of kilometers in between.A quick park'n'grab for this one. All well in the container. Signed, and returned as found. Tftc!

A rare night for me and GeoHubby (GNARwhal) to be out on our own with no kids to do a bit of Geocaching. I'm completing my Bakers Dozen challenge (50 caches a month for 13 months) and still have a few to tick off before the month ends.Cust has a nice little cluster of caches, so this was our target area. A quick find and found another Rattll rock to add to my collection. Thanks for the cache.

04-Feb-22
all quiet today so an easy find tftc

Planned West Coast trip put on hold due to atrocious weather. So an alternative route was needed to avoid the rain. Not so! The rest of the south island copped it too..though on a lesser degree. So mainly driving north with the odd random cache finds. Seeing plenty of country less travelled a bonus.

What a great spot. I wish the little ones would have been with me. They would have loved the playground! Thanks for the cache!

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

02-Oct-20
With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

We have another one of those punishing plans to cache until we drop - An early morning start with the hope that we'll finish at a reasonable time... From South Christchurch, we took Highway 1 and crossed the Waimakariri River into Northern Christchurch... A few people nearby, but ground zone had us placed out of sight. Thanks bumandwalker and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

There are 2 logs on here from cachers who have not signed the logs. They apparently found this cache in May. Marchwood and BCD signed. Today I have noticed the lack of signing on several caches by these cachers. Disappointing. Thanks for providing the cache.

Out caching Canterbury for day 2 of my March madness road trip.
Caching Cust this morning on my way to cache a Gracie Trail.
Another one that took me a while to zero in on. The GPS wasn't playing the game.
Because of that though I did end up in amongst some tree where four fantails surrounded me, chatting away. Super cool.
Finally getting to where GZ was I looked in a few wrong places and then looked in the right place. Pleased to find andy & gail's new container and log.

KrystalKath, Tama and I are on our way back from the Oxford Farmer’s Market.
Having previously passed through Cust but not when the Museum has been open (14:00 - 16:00 Sunday’s) we have stopped at the Route 72 Cafe Emporium for coffee, a bite to eat, and peruse the amazing *stuff*. Then we’re on to the Museum but Tama the geohound needs a walk up the road before being returned to the SUV.
An easy find although not quite where I expected it to be. Thanks for another cache.

Found in the dark en route to camp. Needed just one more to complete the mystery at the museum before time ran out. Nice simple and quick find. TFTC

Cache was a quick find and I removed the nearby Burger King rubbish in case anyone clearing the rubbish would spot the cache and remove that as well. I did like a couple of the nearby houses.

It's some time since we had a caching foray in this area so with several puzzles solved we set forth to enjoy whatever the day would bring. I suspect a booboo in that I have dated most logs as the 9th rather than 7th, sorry.
I found four separate bits that made up the cache; lid, container, snaplock bag, pencil. No log though. Lid has 3 holes in it, pencil is probably on it's last legs but bag was in good condition so added some notepaper, reunited the pieces and placed it back and anchored with stones.
Thank you bumandworker.

07-Nov-18
With the forecast much better East than West we thought a day on the other side was a good idea. We have plenty of solved puzzles as well as green to be turned in to yellow for those occasions. We found the container (lid and container separate), the pencil and empty snaplock close together. The lid was punctured so after assembling and adding a logsheet it was placed upside down back where we found it but under some rocks. Thank you bumandworker

Found a little box with an old illegible log. Added fresh sheet of paper. Thanks from Richland WA USA

18-Feb-17
Not under any wood but lying out exposed and almost against the building. All it contained was the log as shown in the photo posted on 3 -7- 16 by Injeanious. Definitely the same container but with 3 holes in the lid. where it is lying it is protected from the rain as the log sheet was dry and somewhat crisp so I decided to replace where I found it. I could make out the year 2015 on some of the logs.

Begins our holiday in NZ in Christchurch, we came from Italy to find our son who lives there for two years.
Long trip, but surprisingly we arrived there very tired, almost two days and two nights without sleep, but it took just 24 hours we got used to the new day.
Having Been to Akaroa and Kaukoura, and trail AHHH FRESH, today we decide to make a part of the trail from Kaiapoi to Oxford, we will find many cache, not the other will find, before we left we had decided to devote no more than three minutes for each cache, if it was not passed over it, some need maintenance, beautiful landscape and few cars on the course.
Thank you for suggesting this trail
Greetings from Italy
TFTC
Saluti dall'Italia

Today we enjoyed picking up caches from the lolly scramble trail, the fruit and vege trail, the cust trail and other various caches around the area. We found 50 caches altogether and had a great day. Caching with Injeanious and theBurnsy we signed the log books as JeJeBu to save time and space. Thanks to the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches! Sorry for the cut and paste logs.
This cache was full of water with a couple of holes in the lid. The log book was thoroughly soaked ... Injeanious took a picture of the logbook as evidence we found it.

03-Jul-16
It's been a slow couple of months for me and Jess.daphne, so we decided to team up with The Burnsy and get a whole lot of caches. We headed off to pick up more of the Lolly Scramble, Fruit and Vege, and Cust trails, signing the logs as JeJeBu. We had a great day and grabbed 50 caches. Our best day yet! Thanks to the COs for the caches.

We accidentally ended up by the church but I was pretty happy because I recognised the heritage listed tower which I've only seen in pictures. Such a neat spot. The cache was an easy enough find was I used a bit of muscle. Unfortunately the cache was soaking wet and we couldn't write on it. It may be time for a water proof container as this one has holes in it. Tftc.

The next on our 210 run finding caches for the day with our team of four- HHSS. Working as a team each doing diff. roles we were able to speed up the find rate quite well and we managed to do about the first 100 with no Did Not Finds but after that the distances increased and the find rate dropped but we still managed to finish the day with 210 cache. The seagnoid has planned etc our route so it was all efficient Thank you to The Seagnoid for this pre work and thank you to the different cache Owners for these great, interesting caches. I just loved the huge chuppa chup and all the veges and fruit. . Thank you for the cache and another smiley face.

[green] Out with Hanknstone, Haydn.seek and thestepahine on an awesome 200+ day. We managed to get 210 caches in 11 hours, an average of 3 minutes each. There were a few awesome caches out there, but mostly it was a blur. Thanks to all the cache owners, and my apologies about the cut and paste!
Signed log as HHSS.

Hanknstone, Haydn.seek, the Seagnoid and I had a challenge of doing 200 caches in a day. We started at 7:30am and finished around 8:00pm with a total of 200+. Apologies for the copy and pasting of the logs but there were so many we found that it would take so long to write them all up individually! Thank you for the find. Smile

Our team for the Mega weekend was signing as VYV (Vamber, Yorkshirekiwi83 and Vistra). we found quite a few in the short space of time we were together, where I can I will make comments about the cache. We had teamed up back in Auckland and had been busy planning what we were going to target and in what order, of course plans changed even more so when we were down here, but that is part of what makes it fun and I had a great time over the weekend, thanks to all the CO's for placing.

Day 3 in Christchurch and I again teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 and vamber for another big day of caching. We signed the logs as "VYV" to save time and space on the logs. We made an early start to the day as we knew we would be going for 200 caches. We started with the Lolly Scramble caches (which we had begun the night before) and made our way up to Oxford, before returning to Kaiapoi and working on the Horses 101 series, finding a number of other caches along the way. Apologies for the generic logs, but thank you to all the cache owners for placing these caches!

An epic day of caching today, out to achieve 200+ finds in a day while I'm in Christchurch for the Mega event. There was also the lure of a virtual cache down in Peel forest, which isn't really that far from the numbers game along Thompsons track. A great day out and about, revisiting places I haven't been in years, and finding new places along the way. I teamed up with Capperz and Nightowl19 at 0600 in Rolleston, and off we headed in my cache mobile and general all purpose off road land rover. We signed the logs primarily as G C N to save space and time. Sorry about the cut and paste logs, but with over 200 caches to log it's going to take me a while to catch up. A nice series this,T F T C

24-Oct-15
Off to the Mega this weekend and a 2 day pass has been granted for Geocaching purposes. It being a long weekend and all there was definitely a plan to get some caches and keep the numbers ticking along. Finished work at 12.00 and waited for the accompanying nightowl19 to finish her school morning. Pick her up and back home to get changed and a bite to eat before heading down the line. There's an event in Rangiora that we'd like to attend and we need to check into our accommodation. All interspersed with few caches too. Today is the planned 200 plus in a day, to be followed by as many types in a day on Sunday, then back home Sunday arvo. Quite the whistle-stop tour. Weather played fair, we ate take aways all weekend. . . . . . . . . . . shameful parenting, and had a great time. Even got to cache with G H 6 7 1 0 too, bonus. We set off at 0600 and were all done by 2000 so not toooo long a day. A few hundred kms driven by G H and in the comfort of his 4 x 4 too.
To all the COs that placed these caches many thanks for facilitating this epic journey and (normally difficult caching target. In Marlborough I've already done so many so big numbers days are nigh on impossible without having to travel out great distances. Most logs were signed G C N being an acronym of our combined caching names. We replaced around half a dozen which were plainly missing on Thompsons Track which will surely help those who follow us.
Apologies for the cut and past logs and last of all T F T C all . Thanks

Found during the Mega weekend on bit of a tiki-tour around the Canterbury back blocks. Great weather, great caches, great fun! Thanks to all the cache owners for putting out and maintaining caches for us to find. All in all, a fun road trip with Boxhill and Yeetrees, we signed many of the logsheets as YGB to save both time and logsheet spaces. Cool
