Logs
Spending some time here up around Golden Bay and the Spit Of course these are not only lazy days , some caches need to go after Found well and the logbook one can sign (or replace it)Tftc
On road to the archway islands we found all but one names of the bridges. On the way back we still couldnt find the fifth, but we were able to retrieve the cache anyway.
Back in June, four Wellingtonians (NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ and YetiNZ) came down to visit the Nelson region. We had such a blast that we decided to do it again, and here we are!
During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.
Day 1, and we were driving from Nelson up to the most northerly cache on the Mainland, before then making our way back to Takaka for the night.
We were now heading south, and stopping along the way at many interesting caches. I already had quite a few of them thanks to a campervan roadtrip I did back in 2020 but this was one I hadn't stopped at on that trip, so it was good to get it this time around.
The cache log was pretty much soaked through so took a photo rather than try to sign it...
Thank you for setting this one up.

Some time ago a group of us from Wellington decided that what we should do is come down to the Nelson region for a long weekend of Geocaching. So we did. We had such a good time that just a few months later we decided to do it again. The same team to the same location, with the same agenda. The only real goal for this four day break is exploring, having fun, and finding more of the unfound geocaches in the area.
Day one of this trip took us all the way out to Cape Farewell and then back to Tākaka. We stopped at many caches along the way, and this was one of them. We found something that was not the cache at first, but then we did find the correct item. Log book was pretty damp, but we made it work.
Most of our find here we signed the log with the collective name of N.M.T.Y to represent the four of us: NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ, and YetiNZ.
---
Thanks to bumandworker for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.
[DGSc-Bulk] tagging to help me generate a list for GC30AD8 - DGSc Challenge.

(# 8119) Day 1 of a caching trip to the Nelson/Golden Bay area for a repeat trip for the four amigos. Tripping with NZ_B, TwigNZ and YetiNZ. A day full of hilarity with nobody being spared being the butt of the jokes. Signed the log with NMTY.
Thanks bumandworker for bringing me here.
Thanks bumandworker for bringing me here.
During our hunt for this cache we found what I would call an army drink bottle. From the way it was placed we were sure it was the cache. Opening it up proved us wrong.
Day 1 of “The Wellingtonians are back” tour with TwigNZ, YetiNZ, Mr-Mcgoo. After the last trip, with more caches for us to find, we decided we had to return. And, of course, there will be days of laughter, usually at my expense .

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache bumandworker.

I can remember doing this one a while back ending in s DNF so it is nice to end up with a smilie.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
This was an awesome multicache. Very clever Thanks! We were stoked to solve and then find it!
On a trip with Ruru_NZ to gather the tour caches needed or in my case not done yet. Should be able to knock them off on this trip.
Starting to tiddly down as we get to final. Looks like forecast was right. All bridges had their signs and only one gave us a bit of trouble till thinking it through.

Day 12 - Labour weekend extended road trip with Kiwicampnut - relocated to stay south of the ditch.
Passenger did the "legwork" as driver slowed at each bridge. Final location in hand and we were off. This trip it was the furthered we went out towards the spit.
Some cyclists near GZ, but they were soon off and had the place to ourselves.
Thanks for the cache bumandworker

We collected the required information with evilC the day before on our way to Farewell Spit, but we could not locate the final. Lets blame the darkness as it was not too strenuous this morning! TFTC!!
Collected the data for this one on the way back from Farewell Spit yesterday. No problems getting the answers on the return to Collingwood and I worked out the coords that night. Quick find here today when it was quiet. Nice to have another multi ticked off. TFTC B&W.
Very happy to have managed to find this one. Didn't think I had a chance with one number missing. But I tried all 9 options and only 2 were on land so set out to give both possibilities a try. Hint it's a higher number.

It took a while to work out the missing bridge number but got some good coordinates and found it. Day three of our trip, we stayed in Collingwood last night.
JDScout and I are on a campervan holiday from Christchurch to Collingwood to Havelock and back home to Christchurch. Geocaching is on my agenda. We both like biking and walking too. Thanks bumandworker for placing this geocache it is find 8104 for me.
Sadly there was no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland.
======== NZ Mega 2020 ========
Planning for the NZ Mega 2020 event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. Thanks for hiding this geocache.

This took awhile to figure out because the 3 bridge has no name signs anymore, but managed to find the bridge name eventually. Great ending to the cache location.
Gathered the info yesterday, crunched the numbers & had a likely GZ. Leaving the area today, so stopped in to earn the smiley. Took a bit of hunting before finally signing the log. Cool multi & great ending. TFTC
Nice multi cache and nice final. Worked out final co-ords on way from Collingwood to farewell spit (ish). Took quite a while to locate in a reasonably logical place. TFTC
We solved this multi on the way to Anatori and decided to put the result to the test on the way home again. We identified the trap some people might fall into and located the cache without trouble. A fav. Thank you bumandworker
We gathered the numbers we needed for this on our way out to Anatori and grabbed the cache on our way home today. No problem with either phase of the activity.
Thank you bumandworker.
Thank you bumandworker.
Up from CHCH visiting family in Richmond...and now a couple days in Golden Bay for some exploring. Settled in at the Golden Bay camp ground; sweet place.
The main aim of today was poking a stick at Farewell Spit and also visit Wharariki beach. Heading back to our cabin in Golden Bay for an afternoon swim...too hot to do much else!..
Certainly a LOT of bridges along this section of road! Grabbed all the numbers on the drive out to the Spit...and made a fairly speedy find and sign on the way back to C/wood for some supplies for tea....Cool multi - not a problem. Cheers!

The maths doesn't calculate out any more as the signs on the bridges were changed back in about August this year.
Not sure about that last log as we drove over the bridges recently
However, it is now bookmarked to check

Collected the answers on our way to some other caches, then worked out the co-ords to collect on our return. Got to 'GZ' and thought hmm something wrong here so back to the waypints to check our figures. Hubby drove a bit slower past the signs this time and we worked out where we went wrong. New co-ords in hand, GZ now made sense and cache was quickly found. Moral of the story, read instructions fully, don't assume and driver go slower so there is time to read the signs. tftc
We collected the numbers on the way to Puponga and collected the find on our way back to Takaka. Thanks bumandworker for the cache
Having a Collingwood caching weekend.
I did the hard yards yesterday for this but failed to get a meaningful answer.
Emailed the CO for help overnight. He must be sick of me stuffing up his Multi's. And per usual it was a simple error on my part .... again.
After a fruitless beach walk on another of his Multi's I came by GZ to make the find.
I had a chuckle at where it was. Very appropriate.
The sign is back at WP2. No need to look over your shoulder any more.
An excellent Multi.

Over in Collingwood today for a funeral. Arrived over 30 minutes early so decided to make a start on this multi that I've driven over/past so many times without taking the time to complete it for a variety of reasons. Thought I had no trouble collecting the data but when I arrived at where my calculations took me the cache was a no show. I now needed to get changed and off to the service so had another look at my numbers after that was all finished. I could see where I went wrong so recalculated and off again but as I drove past there that was also obviously wrong. Gerrrr! Relooked at everything again and could see this time that I'd mixed up my ABC's - stupid! So off I go again and this time managed to sign the log. Whew pleased to finally get a smilely after bypassing it time and time again. TFTC
Found on our holiday to Takaka. We drove from Takaka along state highway 60 to Cape Farewell Spit. Found on the drive back to Takaka. It was a quick park & grab. I planned this one to do to keep the back seat riders occupied, who were very helpful. If only we had something like this over the Takaka hill to keep the backseat riders from feeling queasy! Did the maths & found the cache near lotsa bridges(or maybe just one)! Find #116
This cache was my reason for coming to the bay today. I needed a multi cache starting with the letter L for an "April" challenge cache in Christchurch. I got some numbers but when arriving at my GZ something didn't feel right so I went back and redid the drive, then came the Ahh moment, I need to learn to read descriptions and count properly. The second GZ looked a lot more promising and sure enough there was a little plastic container with a log waiting to be signed in it. Thanks for a fun multi B&W

We had worked out the coordinates previously, and the cache was a quick easy find. TFTC
Our first cache on our tour towards the start of the Great Trail Start. While Silli1310 drove us towards our destination, I collected the needed values and together we could find the can. Many thanks for the cache.
StreetWalker gathered the info on our drive past yesterday and we decided to leave the find for today. As we tend to do, we made this hard for ourselves. Our first tentative co-ords looked OK on Google maps but in reality didn't look quite as convincing, especially after we deciphered the hint. SW was a little unsure of one number so we tried some other co-ords but soon realised that they were also no good. I then noticed something that needed further investigation, but after a bit of searching, came up empty handed. In the meantime, SW had rejigged the co-ords, again, and found the cache 40m or so away from where I was searching. A case of not being able to count properly .
A good idea for a multi, as we had to slow down for the bridges anyway. TFTC.

#8716. There certainly were lotsa bridges (and another batch to come not much further down the road). I wasn't careful enough counting vowels (doh), but we got there in the end. Whew. TFTC.
Made harder work out of this than it should have been as I already knew the name on all the signs, but somehow we first mixed up the question order and then counted how many digits instead of their combined total, so we did end up driving back and forth a bit .. Of course this only increased the fun
Jr Juicy made the final find .. TFTC!
Jr Juicy made the final find .. TFTC!
Had fun going back and forth over these bridges on what was probably the busiest day on the roads this summer. TFTC. We do like a multi !
Completed while in the area, very satisfying to get a smile on this one. TFTC, #6051
On the way to the Spit all waypoints visited, stopped and took pictures. Calculation was once again the weak point, but the given coordinates looked logic from a distance. After being at the given ones, all logic was gone. Thinking about going back to the Motel and do a recalculation, a more then obvious object was spotted, parked and after seconds the "pink" surprise was spotted. TFTC
Driven over these bridges many times but never noticed the numbers before. Another one to get our Sunday brains into gear. TFTC
Oooo. A very appropriate cache! No drama collecting the info, though speedy vehicles, particularly large heavy ones make driving a little tricky. We did however take a little while to locate the prize at GZ. - -Got there in the end. TFTC
Really enjoyed this one, took a while to locate the cache but got it in the end. A favourite for me!
Collected the info a couple of days ago but were heading in the wrong direction to complete it. Talking to a local made us a bit nervous about all these bridges as she was commenting on how many accidents there are at this time of year when European tourists in their rental cars cross the one way bridges then forget which side of the road to drive on.
Many thanks
Many thanks
This was very hard work - but only because we could not use our new geocaching tools (Xmas is a nice time of the year) in the correct way. Would have been easier with the traditional method to have all waypoints in the Garmin, but we will learn how to use other stuff. Anyway, in the end it was a quick and easy find. TFTC
Found myself here a few days ago really wanting to get rid of this blight on my record, but no time. Unexpectedly found myself back today, so another try. This time all the admin worked out. Still a complete head scratcher how I managed to stuff it up twice last time. Found it easier to disobey the hint.
Thank you for placing this cache.

Have it on very good authority, sign at WP2 is missing. You will need to use the sign on other end of the bridge.....awkward I know, talk to the vandals.
A nice wee multi. Found the cache in the first spot I looked. Cheers Geoff.

Nice quick find of waypoints but made hard work of the final - I was fairly sure I was in the right place - persistence paid off. TFTC (565)
Trip trapping for a short while yesterday and today but couldn't find at final coord's. Will look in next few days one more time using cute toddlers as an alibi. Might have to post a blushing face for this one in case it's third time lucky. Thanks though Bum&Worker I learned a few things about Geocaching and my GPS doing my first multi.

Caching at least teaches you to be adaptable not a cache we planned for today but one we enjoyed all the same !!! with having to try and read signs as the navigator was a challenge glasses on couldnt read signs quick enough with glasses off couldnt see the signs lol so a bit stop start but got the figures in the end and a smiley was the result signed log thanks for the cache
Wasnt sure if we had much time today for multi's but with the weather being dicey we had to cancel a couple of planned walks so we thought why not . Nice to be able to grab info from the dry car. A quick work through the figures and it was off to grab the cache TFTC A real nice Multi.
After a morning of a gps that wasnt working properly and having to guess with some caches,We stopped for lunch in Collingwood and Mr L finally got the Gps loaded properly,Yay we could do this cache,Didnt take long for us to do it,Kids had fun doing this one.Went to final site and there it was,TFTC
We had a TB that wanted to find a cache under a bridge so what better a cache to do. We found most of the answers as we drove towards the Spit (with a car close behind us) and confirmed them as we drove back towards Collingwood (without a car behind us this time). No problems with the find - except that the cache was not big enough for the TB!!! We enjoyed it anyway and will find another place for No Gruff (TB). Thanks.
Lot's indeed, I thought you were going to take us all the way to the spit looking at them but then I saw one in particular that you must have found more attractive than the rest. Last cache find of the day on the way home. TFTC.
Well for some reason this took longer than it should have but got there in the end.
Thanks Bitsprayer.
Thanks Bitsprayer.
Thanks for the tour - collected the info on the way over, finished it on my way back.
FTF! Nice multi. Drove it slowly and must have had a bit of traffic wondering why I kept pulling over. Luckily GPS looks a bit like a mobile phone so that was my cover. Yes a nice personal touch with the multi. Thought of placing a tribute cache there myself a while ago but never got round to it. TFTC, Biggles.
