#4933 - 12:40; Our week in New York was drawing to a close and we had checked off most of the sights we had on the 'to do' list for this trip. Going Coastal’s NY-NJ Harbor Estuary EarthCache Discovery Trail in Liberty State Park in New Jersey was on the 'to do if you can get there' list on the recommendation of a caching mate back in Australia who had been here before. I was happy that I was able to make it over the river to walk the trail, although the temperature in excess of 90 degrees F made for a hot one. This was the third stop along the trail, and though not very far from the first, a little different as there werre more trees busy producing oxygen for the benefit of the surrounding cities. Gathered the required information and email sent to the CO for the OK. TFTC Going Coastal Smile

Arrived at this area and set about the task at hand. Had a bit of fun and soon worked out the required answers.

Thanks for interesting, and hands on, earthcache......

The promenade is very nice. We see New York, Liberty statue and the habitat of area. The trees give shadow for the pleasure of visitors. We find them height and ''right'' (droits). Thanks

On I go to the next cache, on the way making a slight detour for another local cache (Abbott and Costello). Rapidly deciding that this is going to be a hot day for caching and I didn't bring any suncream.
I am quite surprised by the number of helicopters flying around. Other than at an air show I don't think that I have ever seen as many (later an Apache helicopter comes through, really something to watch). It's this contrast of nature and human technology that almost sums up America for me, it's almost a contradiction and hard to get my head around. Here I am studying things about the earth, that have been here for as long as can be remembered while at the same time there is great evidence of mankinds progression.

On my way to Cape May, NJ from NH to visit the folks, for Dad's 81st and mothers day! Was able to score this find on the way down! Will send the answers over the next day. One at a time. The devestation of sandy certainly has influenced the area. I spoke with several park rangers and they are not sure when things will fullyreopen! Thanks for bringing me here! TFTC, ponil

I have learned a lot so far. Trees allow us to have oxygen to breathe, provide shade and hickory nuts to eat if it is a hickory tree. TTFTC
