#4936 - 13:00; Our week in New York was drawing to a close and we had checked off most of the sights we had on the 'to do' list for this trip. Going Coastal’s NY-NJ Harbor Estuary EarthCache Discovery Trail in Liberty State Park in New Jersey was on the 'to do if you can get there' list on the recommendation of a caching mate back in Australia who had been here before. I was happy that I was able to make it over the river to walk the trail, although the temperature in excess of 90 degrees F made for a hot one. This was the sixth stop on the trail and we were now crossing the bridge. Gathered the required information and email sent to the CO for the OK. TFTC Going Coastal
Great views along the walkway as I grab more info for the series.
Thanks Going Coastal....
Thanks Going Coastal....
We were surprised to see the Hudson so large and so busy. We cannot imagine without seeing with our eyes. Thanks
we were there all afternoon, walking these trails. stopped to watch and talk to the crabbers and fishermen. so many people there taking in the great weather and beautiful sights.
thanks for the series.
thanks for the series.
This series is full of surprises. I didn't expect to see a whole load of people crabbing over the side of the break water. And just as I am passing one of them catches a crab. Lifting up the cage he opens it up on the pavement and a lovely specimen of a blue crab is suddenly loose and terrorising everyone. They really are feisty things, even more so than the crabs I used to catch with my daughter back in Dartmouth. If anyone comes close then he's waving his viscious looking pincers, you can almost hear him thinking "come on if you think your hard enough". Finally a pincer movement on him (see what I did there) catches him off guard and he's picked up and then dumped into an ice box. I suspect he's now someones dinner.
There's a good view from here of the Ellis Island Immigration Hospital. To be honest I originally thought it was a prison, but looking at the history I was probably not that far off. Branded as immigration "of the wrong kind" by Roosevelt, being sent to this hospital didn't look particularly good for your prospects. However as a doctor it must have been an interesting place to work, exotic diseases from around the world.

We found that earth cache on our US-tour. Due to the rain not so perfect, but interesting.
Many thanks to the owners.

Time for our walk. This is such a great place to walk. Back where we are from, there was no place like this with such views. TFTC
Came down from Westchester and across the river by ferry for my first visit to Liberty State Park. Today really was a perfect day to walk and explore. Clear blue skies, temperatures in the 70s. Coming from the ferry landing, I did this series out of order, starting here. I am logging this as a find, and will email the CO tomorrow with my best answers to the queries. If the responses are rejected, I will "de-find" it.
As we were making our way around the park, we completed Earthcache #4 for us! We have really enjoyed completing these Earthcaches, and the park itself. Thanks for the adventure!
Nice geography lesson about the area. Grabbing a few caches during a break on a recent business trip.
With such a beautiful day what better to do than to visit LSP and get some caches. Had a great time. Mosquitos were very active. TFTC
On my way to Cape May, NJ from NH to visit the folks, for Dad's 81st and mothers day! Was able to score this find on the way down! Will send the answers over the next day. One at a time. The devestation of sandy certainly has influenced the area. I spoke with several park rangers and they are not sure when things will fullyreopen! Thanks for bringing me here! TFTC, ponil

Visiting the area from New Hampshire with Preferida, Kballsey and Team Salford on the return leg of a five day caching trip that covered NY, NJ, PA, and DE. Many thanks to the folks from Going Costal for placing this series for taking us to both of these unique spots, and for the great educational lessons. We really enjoyed it! Answers wll be sent soon.

Had a very nice time visiting this area and enjoying looking for several earth caches- just stellar! NH Travelers submitted our answers for us. My thanks to the CO for the work put into creating these. My apologies for the very late log!

I found this earthcache while on hurricane relief effort. Things are not too bad here but a lot of work will be needed to make it public accessible. TFTC
