Looks like the end of the line for this one. If someone wants to adopt it and replace the missing cache, please send me a message or log a note on the cache page. Otherwise, into the archive it will go - it has had a good run!
Definitely no sistema cache tucked anywhere along this length of Armco, and neither were there many gaps in the traffic today … and the only real one was interrupted by boyracer-type with decent camera making a vape stop … though he parked right next to the cache location, so perhaps I assume too quickly.
Unfortunately didn't find this one but we did meet the rooster and got harassed by a magpie who must've had a nest nearby.
On go for this one, with 2 sets of eyes looking. Even the local resident rooster couldn’t help us.
Thank you for the quick find. Travelling home after visiting family down the line. I really enjoy finding caches that have been around for a long time.
No muggles were around when we pulled up and the road was rather quiet which made it even easier. A beautiful day to be out and about.

Thanks Hurricane Luke; adopted by CartertoniC for placing this cache
It was a 26degree day and luckily no muggles were stopped here so I was able to find this between passing traffic.

I am driving back to Auckland after spending five days in Manawatu, stopping to find a few caches along the way.
This was a quick find for me. There was a car that had a broken window and the engine compartment open, so I don't think it had such a good time. TFTC.

The timing was great as no one else decided to take a stop at the same time. TFTC!!
A quick easy find near this impressive structure. After doing the nearby "Heirlooms" cache we had our lunch here, and were fortunate to see two trains crossing the viaduct. TFTC
Have been eyeing this one for a little while now and everytime I go past but not able to stop.
Quick and easy find.

I am roadtripping up to Auckland this weekend for a mates 50th birthday, and have broken my journey up a bit by stopping for a few caches along the way (as you do lol!).
The Makohine Viaduct is one of those places that I have driven past countless times (and have even gone over on the Overlander) but never stopped at before. One of the bonuses of caching is that it makes you look at places differently, so I was happy to make this one of my stops today.
A quick and easy find here today is the obvious location as per the Hint. There was no-one else around so I was able to sign the log etc before replacing it all as found and then getting back on my way again.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Quick find heading North on a bit of a mission. Had the place to myself. Replaced damaged log bag. All good here. T. F. T. C.
Ohakune to Fielding today. Planning to attend the event there this evening. Collecting as many caches along the way as we can. Stopped here for tea. Lots of muggles stopping for a quick view of the viaduct. Cache fine. Thanks
A nice spot to stop, even saw a train go over. Found the cache on the ground, log book nice and dry, signed and carefully stashed back where it should be. Thanks
Day two of my road trip from Auckland to Nelson in my newly acquired convertible cachemobile. Finding a few caches along the way. Thanks for the interesting listing and TFTC, Biggles.
Stopped here for lunch. A huge viaduct some good engineering must have went into it.

I did one here ages ago but had to walk across a paddock which I did and found it so excited to see this one near the plaque. The viaduct is still an awesome sight to see. TFTC
Quick find on the way to Rotorua today but under the eyes of a couple of council workers cleaning the area. Engaged in conversation with one of these friendly people and reassured him we were harmless and explained geocaching to him. Very interesting structure and history attached to it. TFTC
On a roadie (from Tauranga) with grand daughter for school holidays. I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers Took Tb Will log later.
Bei einer Exkursion mit der Universität Mainz nach Neuseeland gut gefunden. Bei einer Mittagspause habe ich mich kurz von der Gruppe weggeschlichen und geloggt.

On our way to Wanganui for a family get together with a few caches to break the trip.Rest area was quiet so the find was stress free.Signed, replaced & on our way.Thankyou, last one for the day Or we will be late for what we are here for.
On a geocaching adventure around the country with myself, my car and my tent. Drove almost 4000km and collected 170 caches over a week of roadtripping, camping and seeing the beautiful sights of New Zealand. Lots of fun and so many great caches were found, as well as a lot of DNF's. Apologies for copy paste post. Thank you to all cache owners. Day ten driving from Waikawa to Hamilton. Thank you for the cache
Stopped tp admire the viadect and thoufht it would be rude not to grab the cache too. Dropped a TB off. TFTC
For our Christmas vacations, we stay for two days in Hong Kong and then two weeks in New Zealand : a lot of geocaches are on our way, including that one !

Found traveling back up north after a few days in Lamy. Great spot for a stop and thanks for the interesting information. TFTC
On my way back to Hamilton after the Mega and a night in the bush. Needing plenty of stops. Decided to have another here. Cache not where I expected and was plainly visible. So after signing I tucked it away a bit more out of sight. These viaducts and major achievements. Thank you for the placement.
Always thought one would be here. Pulled in and sure enough. Nice quick park and grab. Good location. tftc
**Trip log:**
Found during Team DATT's (Do All The Things) annual international caching trip consisting of FLtravelers, PlagueRider, waterfan5 and myself. Africa kicked it all off back in 2016, with a follow up European tour last year. I tried to pitch Asia but the pull of the Great Ocean Road and completing our 6th continent was too strong, and we landed on week long road trips through both Australia and New Zealand. Before meeting the team in Sydney though, I was able to schedule some layovers in Asia (Beijing, Bangkok and Singapore), so in the end I got a bit of everything. =)
**New Zealand Day 11 - Taupo -> Tongariro National Park -> Wellington:**
Today was pretty long as we covered a large portion of the north island on our way to Wellington and our ferry ride tomorrow. We detoured west around Tongariro National Park to enjoy the views, which were unfortunately obscured by clouds a majority of the time. It was overcast all day but luckily we never got rain. We were able to get into Wellington early enough to walk around and enjoy a Cinco de Mayo dinner at a restaurant called "Mexico," which I thought was just too funny.
**Cache Log:**
Nice grab along our route.

Back on the road again for another international trip. This time to Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and South Korea.
Like our previous trips we focussed on old caches, high favorites, rare cache types and pretty locations.
Most of the trip was together with Plaguerider, Zanna and FLtravelers, but some of it I did solo.
Logs were signed as DATT (Do All The Things) and if there were answers, we typically sent them as a group.
Thanks for maintaining the caches for us.

We’re on our annual international geocaching trip as Team DATT (Do All The Things) comprised of FLtravelers, PlagueRider, waterfan5, and zanna. This year we chose to explore Australia and New Zealand. Zanna and I decided to do a two-day stopover in Beijing, a three-day stopover in Bangkok, and a 12-hour layover in Singapore on our way to meet up with the rest of the team in Sydney.
Once we got the Team back together, we made a “bee-line” to Lane Cove and various caches around Sydney. Then we headed down the coast on A1. After visiting Wasp Head, we headed up through Canberra and down M31 to Melbourne, after a webcam stop on Mount Buller.
We had a great time in Melbourne, which is my favorite city in Australia so far, then onto the Great Ocean Road, the highlight of Australia for this trip. After a couple days (not nearly enough) we left the ocean road and headed up A6 towards Victor Harbor (webcam) and Adelaide (webcams) for our flight to Auckland. Seems we found every webcam in Australia.
After a short week in Australia, we flew into Auckland and continued with our explorations in New Zealand. We drove over to Tauranga, and then down to Rotorua and Taupo, enjoying the thermal features. We headed down 5 to Napier, with stops at a couple of waterfalls, and then down to Wellington to catch the ferry to the South Island.
We spent the night in Picton, and then over to the awesome west coast, before crossing over Arthur’s Pass on our way to Christchurch for flights home.
We targeted old caches, highly favorited caches, earthcaches, virtuals, and of course webcam caches, and anything else that got our interest along the way. Logs were signed DATT. Answers, where required, were sent by one of the team members. Thanks for adding to the enjoyment of our trip with this cache. Great spot.

Another rest area that is normally a drive by for me. Thanks for giving me a reason to stop and look at the history of the area.
A journey from Kapiti to Whangarei was an ideal time to stop here and there and seek out some caches whenever the opportunity presented itself. Some of the caches were a bit of a challenge. I was accompanied by team geocacher Mr. T and we saw some beautiful scenery so it was an enjoyable trip. Thank you for placing this cache and for taking the trouble to maintain it.
Great to stop and see the Viaduct. Great view from here ... cache was an easy find, thanks!
Hi there CartertoniC - found on our long drive today from Wellington to Turangi. SL and replaced. The container and log are in fair condition. Thanks to CartertoniC for this cache - our find #5305.
Quick find by master Orsome4some. Cool viaduct, I am always impressed by the engineering that went into the construction of these. TFTC
The Etherlord Clan are on a summer road trip to the mountain!
...wait, what?!?
This was one of the 'suspiciously timed' break stops along the way - all for the kids' of cause
I've always wanted to stop at the viaduct.
My Dad is a train nutter (he's currently the President of the NZ Railway & Locomotive Society) and as kids we would go away on family 'train chasing' trips following a steam excursion or similar to take photos.
I don't remember if we stopped here as kids, but today was as good a reason as any to finally stop as an adult.
Walking from the plaque towards GZ, I saw the cache poking its head out from the host, but when I grabbed it the GPSr said I still had 30m to go.
Signed the log and returned it to 0m instead.
Hopefully the next finder will confirm my coords (they'll be at least a lot closer!)
Thanks for providing another stop along this road.

Walksabit and I are now touring the North Island after spending 23 days on the South Island. Today we are travelling from Castle Point to Mangaweka and this cache was along the way. I struggled to find this cache but Walksabit found it 30 metres from my GZ. My GPS has been off but that was extreme. I really enjoyed reading the history about the viaduct so thanks for including it on the cache page.

We made here a litte break to our way to Mount Doom. Loved the Bridge. Thanks for the Cache from Germany
On our way to Whakapapa Village we stopped here and found the cache quickly. Nice place here.

Had tried this cache a couple of years ago but there were too many muggles passing and one pulled in to the carpark, which quickly ended the search. Have passed the spot many times since and decided to give it another go today as being Good Friday meant that there was less traffic on the road, and thankfully nobody else in the carpark. A quick find in the end and good to have a smiley here. TFTC.
Heading to Taupo from Marton so stopped off for this one. One of us kept the person talking and facing the viaduct while the other one grabbed it. Team work. Quick cache thanks
Found on the drive to Auckland. I've been over the bridge twice while traveling up north to go to a concert many years ago, which is the same reason for this trip (although not the same act). A quick find while hiding my activities from some nearby muggles. TFTC
Coop little stop here. Have been over on train a year or so ago. Thanks for bringing us here
This is an awsome bridge...have traveled across this..so good to stop and get a different aspect thanks for a great placement
On our journey from Wellington to Whakapapa we spend a little time to find some caches.
So we found that box. Thanks for showing this amazing place and hidding the cache!

We had decided to make an impromptu detour on our way home from Taranaki in Barnaby as we'd discovered there was a really good plant nursery 10 kms north of Hunterville and it wasn't far off route. Nice cross country trip to get here from Whanganui. We overshot the nursery going along SH1 and this rest area was the first convenient and safe place to turn around. Well it was time for a cup of tea anyway, so we decided to stop for a while, and although we have stopped here many years ago for a photo opportunity on the viaduct we'd certainly never looked for any caches here. I checked the Geocache map online and discovered there were two available, this one being the closest.
With the tea brewing I set off to look for the cache...just as a muggle turned up in a truck to empty the rubbish bin in the rest area. So I had my cup of tea first. The cache was easily found, all in good condition, log signed and returned for the next finder.
Then we headed back to the nursery. It was as good as we'd hoped and we bought lots of plants to take home with us for the garden.
Thanks CartertoniC for looking after this one.

On our way home north, great place to stop and have a break and enjoyed the grandeur of the viaduct. I find the achievements of the history behind the roads, railways etc of NZ very interesting. This is quite incredible really. Thanks for the cache
Day # 13 in New Zealand on a geocaching holiday-trip covering Thailand, Australia and finally my beloved NZ .
Made it from far and rainy South to the North Island. Today’s sunny and pleasant tour [^] took me further up north from Masterton to beautiful Ohakune [:X], close to Tongariro National Park .
Believe it or not : This is my third visit to this scenic area of the central North Island - but today was the first time I was able to see ‘HIM’: Mount Ruapehu [^].
During my last visits he had shyly hidden behind clouds [B)], mist and rain .
But today I could see him in full beauty [8]. How lucky I am !
Of course there were some cool treasures hidden along the route, that I loved to pick up .
Ended up with 23 finds , including two great earth-caches [^], a challenge and a multi-cache . Cool!
This cutie is the classical highway rest-area cache . All good here!
Hey - owners on the way up north - you have cool caches [^] !
A big thanks [:X] to all Owners involved [^] for hiding and maintaining .
Cheers from Germany

This was a welcome break in the trip and seem to remember another cache here at some stage. We were fortunate enough to see a train cross over the viaduct as we were walking back from the other cache in the area. All good here, thanks
Cache was exposed as we walked towards it, so did the necessary and then made sure it was hidden as the CO probably intended. T4tc
Early morning park and grab find on by way to the National Park area for two days caching. Thanks for the cache.
Had spent the weekend in Foxton with a group of caching buddies, completing a few power trails on Saturday and aiming to find as many as we could in a day. We ended up with 206 in 14 hours (taking into account lunch, dinner, coffee and bathroom breaks!) and were pretty happy with that.
On our way home today and decided to grab a few more caches on the way. Since this one barely required us to pull off the main road, we decided it would be rude for us not to stop here. Insructions followed and cache found. Wow, you really get an idea of how fast the cars go on the open road when you're this close to them!
Log signed as "Team SEAC" (Our group name- South East Auckland Crew) in order to save log space.

Our team from Auckland wanted to do a major day of caching, so headed down to Foxton area for a massive day. We got about 205. So we also got a few more on our way back upto Auckland.
Very sorry for the generic logs, but when doing so many in one day very hard to make notes on each.
But a big thank you to all the cache owners for putting out all of the great caches we visited.

After a weekend of mad caching in the Manawatu we headed home to Auckland today via a few caches of course! A 6 hour trip took closer to 8, but we had fun and the sun was shining, so the journey seemed easy. Another nice quick stop and great views to the viaduct and the river cliffs across the road. TFTC!
Having adopted this cache from Huricane Luke a year ago, today was finally the day to stop here for the first time and find out where the cache is hidden.
As has been the case for so many others previously, we had to wait for muggle tourists to move on before making the grab.
Cache nice and dry, and still plenty of log space in it.
