Whenever I see a cache with FPs that are probably more to do with the cache and less to do with its location, I am drawn to it. I'm not drawn to trout lips, in fact I have never caught or eaten a trout. My dad is more into fishing than I am, which isn't hard because I don't fish. I am heading back to Auckland, and although this cache might have been on the list for yesterday it got missed off. Today I am on my own, and it was quiet enough for me to drive over the grass and park in the shade. I spent some time circling the tree because it was quite fascinating. I was drawn to something more from curiosity and because I have something similar as camo on one of my hides. And there it was!I won't say anything else or it might spoil it for others, but it wasn't long before I had reeled in a cache and signed a remarkably dry log. This cache really does deserve all of the FPs it has.

We are on a trip in New Zealand. A wonderful country with a lot of (old )caches. There are too many caches so we limit ourselves to the (old) gems or where we happen to make a stop. We caught the cache pepsicool, thank you for this cache, regards xizat-NL. Take care, this hobby can develop to an addiction.

Then it was time to move to Lake Taupo, where I will have a base for the next few days. On the way, I collected some caches and enjoyed the landscape. Thanks to everyone for their caches and greetings from the Czech Republic. Nice tree and cache, send a FAV.

I found this cache after dropping my son off at the Hillary Outdoor pursuits centre. It was good opportunity for me to grab a few caches to break up the long drive back to Hamilton. Fun hide. Not what I was expecting. TFTC.

Itchyfeet2020 and I were heading north for a weekend caching in the Waikato with TwigNZ and Mr-Magoo.I was concentrating on signing the logs of the mini Jasmine series and preparation for finding out if I qualify for the challenges. There were a few others we decided to find and this was one of them. It wasnt until I pulled off the road that Itchyfeet2020 realised she had been here before and really wanted to find this one. While I was searching in one part, I heard Itchyfeet2020 call out to say she had found it -one happy cacher.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache pepsicool.

19-Jan-24
Travelling north with NZ_B and she is focused on the jasmers. We are being a bit selective with other stops. The minute we pulled up I knew I had been here before without success. I had looked all over but then felt the need to keep going. This time I walked over to GZ and found it pretty much straight away. So glad I was the one to find it - whew! Yes it's worth a FAV for the fun.

After years on our bucket list and three cancellations due to Covid, we are thrilled to finally be here. Following several cruises we flew from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, New Zealand to begin our next adventure. Picked up our rental vehicle and will be driving, exploring, hiking, and caching both islands for 3.5 weeks. No muggles around which made search and retrieval much easier. Soon our ink was on the log. Thanks for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA

Headed down to Taupo for a long weekend to attend the Possum Night Trail run on Saturday. Left Auckland early on Friday, getting stuck in the traffic on the way to Fieldays at Mystery Creek. Soon left the State Highway to travel down to Turangi before traveling up to Taupo.

On Saturday morning I left my accommodation early to get a good start on the day as I was heading back to Turangi to find a couple of ad labs and caches I didn't have time for yesterday.

Wasn't holding out too much hope for finding this one with 2 previous DNFs, but since I was traveling back to Taupo and would be passing by I thought it would be worth a stop. Pulled in and there was a car already parked, but I moved closer to the big tree and the car was blocking the view of the muggle.

Wasn't sure what I was looking for, but scoured the area and surprisingly found the cache quite quickly. Took a bit to extract the cache, as I had to be careful not to drop it. Glad I did stop for this one as it was well worth it.

Had a thorough dig and search around perimeter at GZ, and unsuccessful with finding. Looks to have been removed Sad

It was tricky

24-Apr-23
Read the activity and hint and had a good look around in the wind. As with others, had just about given up, when dustlessspider unearthed what we were looking for. Gives us a great idea about how we can hide caches in our neighborhood

Managed to unearth the container, and Miss 7 then fished out the cache after getting the knack of it. Exhilarating find! Thanks!

Well it was time to revisit this cache. My DNF log has been here since 1/12/14 and has been taunting me ever since. I live in Turangi, so you think I would have knocked this off long ago. Well it is officially time to turn that frown upside down and I finally found this one, and my Blue DNF sad face is no longer. Excellent hide and thanks for this adventure so close to home. Today equals my longest caching days streak of 13 days.
A favourite point from me. Cheers

Good spotting by Mr PorknPuha,

We came back with a bit of intel. Looked again & could not find it so reread the message & buzzybb found it but then we had a bit of fun getting the container. Took a bit of team work but got it eventually. Omg we finally got a smiley face. Fav point for tricking us with a clever cache. Tftc

Finally found this one after initially coming and searching for it with no luck last year. Had assistance from a fellow cacher who gave us some hints. Such a cool cache. Worth a favourite. Tftc

Heading home from 5 days of hiking at National Park and we picked up a few caches on our way north. This is just so cool - not found by me - found by my muggle hubbie, now promoted to "Mr Pinocchio"! Thanks for setting this one up - has to be a favourite Smile

Found it during our vacation. Tank you.

As with others, I went around in circles for a bit before going and reading some previous logs. After a more focused search, this cunning hide was spotted and soon retrieved. Very nice cache, have a FP, cheers

Oh yes, this cache!! (I am writing this log two weeks later)

I went around and around the tree looking for a micro, despite that the description clearly says it isn't a micro. But then again, cache sizes sometimes change, so I would have been looking for a micro anyway. Didn't find anything, and after a few circuits gave up and started reading the logs. One suggested something, I changed my search parameters and promptly found the cache.
Retrieving it was a major problem as bits had been disconnected. I eventually got it out and repaired it, so that problem is now fixed. Definitely a favourite!

Love it easy find

We targeted this fishing hole on the way past as D knows the CO. Took us a few circuits before I landed the tricksy cache (right on GZ). Nicely done, thanks pepsicool We paused for lunch — disturbing how the trucks shake the ground so far from the road.

25-Nov-22
This had us scratching our heads for a while! We made circuits, inspecting every possible nook and cranny before B made the find in an 'Aha' moment. Very clever! We rehid and added some camouflage cover. TFTC pepsicool!

Likewise this took me a couple of minutes to locate. *Only* a couple minutes! All good here. Log dry, container dry. TFTC

I'm on a road trip to Auckland, taking my lad to catch his flight over to the other side of the world. It's a good chance for me to spend some quality time with him before he goes.

But I can't simply drive through here and ignore a chance to try to avenge a previous DNF, especially as I'd reached out to friends to get a bit more of a Hint on this one. And besides, it was the perfect place to stop and stretch our legs after the second driving stint. It had rained on and off on the drive so far, and it was a very light drizzle as I parked up and walked over to GZ.

Even with a better idea of the rough location, it still took me a few minutes to locate this very concealed cache. As I am writing this, it occurs to me that I'm not convinced that the cache hide is exactly as it should be, but having said that there's nothing actually wrong with it. Everything here is in great condition, and the log soon had my name in it. Nice to finally knock this one off.

Thanks for placing this cache.

02-Jul-22
No luck. Was there for a while but did spot some trout in the river!

05-Jun-22
Just about to give up on this after several circuits and it getting progressively colder and more windy. Then Return2nai went "ahuh!" and there it was! Had actually looked for the previous hide many years ago, so very nice to log this as a smiley! Tftc! FP

Mum and 10YO had dropped Dad and 14YO off to complete the Tongariro Crossing; and were keen to get some caches under their belt before they had to collect them again. This was attempt 10 of 12 for the day, second DNF for the day.
Mum had attempted this cache in April 2018, with no luck. She was sure of what she was looking for then, and again this time... but again no luck! This time the GPS sent her to quite a different location - but, unfortunately, the same result 4 years later!

24-Jan-22
Found it after hunting for a while. Thank you, great hide.

It feels like it's taken forever for the day of the Auckland MEGA to finally get here, and it's been a hell of a journey for everyone involved with trying to organise it. But today is my big drive up to Auckland for tomorrows event such as it can be under the shadow of COVID restrictions. As with all big drives, it's also an opportunity to try and grab some caches on the way. In particular I was looking to find some of the PWGT1 caches as well as one or two targeted caches of interest to me.

I had really hoped to be able to get a revenge on my previous DNF, but I'm afraid it wasn't to be. I'm not sure how some people find 2 caches here, and I can't even find one!!

28-Dec-21
Not luck today

18-Dec-21
Just spent a couple of days in Taupo and now heading to Turangi. Stopping for a few caches on the way. Mr Rubbishparty had previously visited this cache but did not have fond memories of it. He remembers wandering around aimlessly for a while before deciding to move on and bring his misery to an end. As we pulled up the memory came back to him and he wasn’t keen to even stop. Mrs Rubbishparty however had other plans and after surveying GZ for a while and reading previous logs she triumphantly pointed to the spot. Not sure if it increased or relieved Mr Rubbishparty’s misery. Great cache. Thanks.

18-Dec-21
Scouted around for quite some time. Family got bored and returned to car, thought we’d best keep going on our adventure and come back another day!

26-Oct-21
After reading the previous logs we thought we knew what we were looking for. But no fishing today.

25-Oct-21
2 caches found, 2 logbooks signed but only 1 smiley. Great cache deserves a favourite point.
Malinkaly and I planned a road trip to go to the MEGA but Covid has postponed the event again. We decided to continue on with our planned journey making adjustments as we go with the ever-changing travel restrictions.
Greetings from Dunedin!
Thanks for the cache, pepsicool

I am roadtripping up to Auckland this weekend for a mates 50th birthday, and have broken my journey up a bit by stopping for a few caches along the way (as you do lol!).

I have driven through the villages along the road beside Lake Taupo many times over the last 30+ years but but never really stopped to spent much time at them before, apart from letting my lad play in the occasional kids park when he was a nipper. One of the bonuses of caching is that it makes you look at places differently, so I was happy to make this one of my stops today.

Sadly though, in spite of a thorough search as the the Hint, I was unable to find anything but a good looking spot for the cache which was empty.

08-Oct-20
Had a good look around here, but no luck finding the cache.

08-Oct-20
Spent a good few minutes searching but, disappointingly, no luck today.

29-Sep-20
Thought this would be a fun stop for the kids on our way north. Unfortunately spent 15/20 minutes with no luck. In the end the wind got too much and we had to accept defeat.

The first finders of the decade!
After we abandoned attempting the nearby hydro cache, we had to get this one. Looking in nooks and crannies we widened our search. Got em!
Great design, a fav point for us. Worth noting it needs a new ziplock, although dry when we retrieved.

End of year family trip before Xmas to this fabulous location. Staying with family friends at their batch. Our 5 year olds are getting into this great outdoors adventuring and just lovely to see them waiting to find the next one. Concerning this geocache I want to say thanks because we had much fun in searching and finding this geocache! The cache made our trip even more interesting!
