A good walk up the steps on a beautiful day. Cache was in the V as described....I spent a wee while looking in the wrong v's, tftc
1MinnieMoo and I found this one on a walk from our accommodation. 1MinnieMoo got it all sorted. TFTC bumandworker
27/9/2023 Find #6654Day 19 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo New Zealand South Island adventures. We are currently staying in Nelson for a couple of nights, and had a list of target caches we wanted to find. As we were staying not far from here, I took a short walk to try and get us some food from the nearby takeaway store the first night we arrived in Nelson. Unfortunately they were closed, so I decided to check out the required info for this multi while near. Having grabbed what was required, I took it back with me to the accommodation and quickly worked out the answer. But saved the final for today when there was some spare afternoon time. Also I needed a walk to get the days steps up. And yes that was definitely the walk! And when you add the other cache I thought would be clever to get at the same time not that far away, it was quite tiring once done!It was however enjoyable nonetheless. Thanks for the cache bumandworker.
Did Caleb's Cache & then on to this one next. Read comments below for instructions.
A nice bike & puff up the steps for me & L7Son. TFTC!

First lane tried and the coordinates didn't make sense, second line tried and the math didn't work unless negative numbers are ok.
Read some logs and noticed it might be another line, went with the biggest words on sign and that worked out.
Walk of drive now? Whatever you do, be prepared to walk a bit more at the end.
Good find then.

Fun little multi. As previous loggers note: just use the name of the reserve (big words) and ignore the rest, prob. a new sign in place. Went up by bike until I hit the stairs, then walked. Tree located and cache found exactly according to hint, tftc!
Nice little multi and puff up the path at the end. Took two maths attempts as the reserve owners were not the words needed ! The words are the third line if I was reading the correct sign! Thanks
Walked up from below. Had my hands in the right place but missed. Took another go and bingo; that’s after searching a pile of other spots first,
I calculated the final coords, but nothing was there. A PF told me my final coords were wrong, so I tried using lines on the sign other than the first one. This gave coords which fit the hint "Cache is on same road at......." On my first visit, I didn't find the cx. With another message to the PF, they confirmed I was at the right GZ.
I returned today with Marchwood, who found the cx in a place I had already looked. All in all, I don't know how much of this cx I did, but I'm claiming the find anyways. TFTC.

Thanks for another smiley. Gathered the info with the wee people while doing the traditional here, then made the find via the high entry on this rainy day.
My walking group was going from Victory to Tahuna today, so I grabbed the info beforehand, did some quick calculations and made the find after a brief scrabble through the leaf litter.
A nice multi that gave me a location that I've never visited before, quite secluded and where just a little bit of digging revealed the cache. Thanks bumandworker.
After chatting to the detective yesterday I came over here to assist in the retrieving the stolen jewels for the big heist that was reported at the Teague-Ulmer Museum recently. It absolutly hosed down on the way over but the day was pretty much okay after that. I had Taybeedragon, my partner in anti-crime, with me and after checking on the camera footage and checking where the fools left their finger prints and foot prints, we are a lot closer to recovering the stones.
Hmm. CO seems to have trouble counting the low numbers. Eventually worked out that when the CO says one he meant three. But his counting higher than three was not a problem, and we set off for the cache. What a lot of steps! We should be running up these! Yeah, right. Nice easy find, once we found the right plaque. And the last sapphire! I think that's the lot, time to check the stash, see if we missed any... Yep got the lot
This is my first serious geocaching session with the official geocaching app. I am using this rather than my preferred app or my GPS as the inbuilt filters cater to the museum clues. So the only caches that show on the cellphone are ones that hold the clues still yet to find. And as we complete a clue set, I drop that out of the filter. It certainly made retrieving the jewels easy!

Off to Nelson with The Seagnoid finding clues to help solve the Museum Heist. Thankfully the storm has past over by the time we reach Nelson with only the odd shower during the day. With all the clues collected and now trying to find all the gemstones scattered around Nelson.
Stopped at Vosper Reserve to capture the info to head us towards GZ. After clambering up the steps along with the odd breaks for the coughing outbreaks we get this one snagged and tagged . Cheers. Some great trees up here.
And the last diamond had been bagged. Yes. Our gem bag is finally full. Now time for home. A great day out and the weather while not shining stayed relatively fine. Bye for now back another day.

Solved this one a while ago but haven't managed to head this way to collect for a while. Today we needed one that was out of the way and this fit the bill nicely. Slightly damp but that's understandable after the recent rain. Log all good though. tftc
A fun multi and a good chance to stretch the legs a bit. It was muggle central here so I did not attempt the trad in the park, but had no problems doing the basic math here. Found with no issues, TFTC Bum.
I had planned a while out to make the trip over the hill today. Lately my Canterbury finds have been well outstripping the Tasman/Nelson ones, so thought this needed some redress. If I can get over once every 6 weeks or so this year that would be great.
So the weather played ball, and the plans were loose. 3 caches were on my wishlist, but none were essential today. Instead I kind of just looked at what was next closest on the map and went for that. In the end I only found one of those anyway.
There is never a bad day caching I guess, but today there were some challenges. Any thoughts of walks in the hills were quickly extinguished (excuse the pun) due to the fire ban; a couple of problem hides that I thought I had good ken on still proved elusive; and it was muggle central at a few others due to sports and whatnot. I probably DNFed or did not attempt more caches than I actually found today, so the day went quickly. Just 21 to log as found, but some good ones in there. Had good success with multis, and even solved the finals for some that will require visits later. Also caught up for a chat with team GKMLB who had helped with an SOS!
Thanks to all the COs. I will log the DNFs and hopefully they are more down to my incompetence than anything.

I used the hint from another cacher to work out the right info. Then off with my Grandson for the final hunt . Nice quiet GZ.
Worked out what to do for this one ages ago, finally got around to going for the find. Nice. Thanks bumandworker for another smiley
With no joy here at the traditional I gathered the numbers for this multi. Realizing that there are two possibilities for the first line I noticed that one would be numerically impossible so opted for the second option. GZ was a short drive away so parked there and headed to GZ. All good and replaced as found. TFTC b&w
It's been a few weeks since we came over the hill for a shopping/caching combo visit and with our in-law guests still away it was decided to head Nelson/Richmond. Usual rules applied; drop off mrs and Olivia in Nelson for a couple of hours - cache, pick up and drop off at Richmond Mall - cache. Pick up and return home. It works. I managed 7 caches on the first part and following a trip through Wairoa River Gorge and the aptly named Lee Valley I gained another 15 finds for a pleasing daily find rate of 22. Beautiful weather over this side, Blenheim had cloud all day apparently and good to see some new places; swimming holes and a chance to feed the local sandfly population some more of my blood!

We spend this lovley day with horse riding and laying in the beach. In the evening I was out for some geocaching and found this nice one.

Yes, the cache is "all good". The confusion about expecting the tree to be at the first point was created by no one else but myself.
BUT, I still insist that the task is not correct. The Y value (Number of letters in second word in first line) as per cache description does not suit the formula. Instead, I took the number of letters in second word in **third line** for Y and that gave me the correct cache coordinates.
Back in Nelson for a little walk to find some caches while my friends explore the Saturday market.
Anyway, thanks for the cache!

DNF
OK, so this listing is very confusing.
The cache name and description made me think that there will be a landscape tree with an accompanying green sign on or next to it at GZ. So, when I was at GZ, there was no such tree around. I thought, could the tree be removed!? After all, the cache hasn't been attempted for more than a year and the reserve here looks pretty new.
So I took a pic of how GZ looks like, and left it at that.
Now a couple of days later logging the DNF, I am about to upload the aforementioned pic when I realize, there is a green sign! So I take the words from first line, put it into the calculations, no, does not come out right. Guess this was not the sign I was looking for. But then, just our of curiousity, **I tried taking the words from 3rd line instead**, and guess what, the coordinates I got kind of make sense. Too bad I'm not in Nelson anymore.
Anyway - double confusion. OK, even though it seems completely logical to look for a landscape tree at GZ, that can be my bad that I didn't see that the sign there could be the one. But, if it is the one, then the first line is simply wrong for this task.

Thanks to the CO for replacing this cache's container. We had searched a couple of times but left wondering if this was a hide we couldn't see for looking, given the few likely hiding places.
This time proved to be a quick find thanks to the updated hint.
Cheers

#10042. Needed to turn a foursie day into a fivesie day today. The weather was good, so I thought it would be a good idea to revisit this cache, after the owner replaced it a couple of weeks ago. This time I left the bike by the Tahuna traffic lights, and did some street walking going to and from GZ. It was an interesting walk (explored a number of alleyways) and a quick find at GZ. TFTC.
I needed two finds to turn a threesie day into a fivesie day. Troodles found this multi late last year while streaking, and had put the coords into GSAK, so I thought this would be a good one to target. It was a decent ride here from Richmond, with a fair old climb at the end. I had a decent search without any luck. There was one object that fitted well with the hint, but I couldn't spot the cache anywhere around it. I gave Troodles a call, and then searched some more, but came up empty handed. With two caches still to find, and a long lunchtime getting longer by the minute, it was time to call it quits.
Had targeted the nearby "Caleb's cache" as my cache of the day, but after a short but fruitless search there decided to flag it away and continue with this one.
Nearly turned to custard as I had incorrectly entered one digit into the Oregon and found myself in a cache-less location with no hint objects. Had left my workings back in the car, but fortunately remembered the 2 words on the sign, so had another go at calculating the final. This turned out to be just a short walk away, and soon I was signing the log book (which is damp and disintegrating, sorry had no replacements on me). Some fine trees around here.
Thanks for day #226 of my streak.

TFTC. Out to play for the weekend with the destination of Nelson. Caching crew on board were Karma Reprint, Team_Gaters and TheWanglers, logged as PKTT for this trip. Gosh did we have fun looking for caches, most of which we found, in this very beautiful part of our country.
We managed a little sleep and commenced day 2 of our Nelson cachathon. Today was about picking up puzzle caches and having a great time. Four very excited kids!!
Thanks bumandworker for placing the cache.

On a big mission up to Nelson over Show Weekend with Purdiepurdie, Karma Reprint and Team_Gaters we signed our cache finds as PKTT the 'power packet' but we called ourselves the 'G4'. We headed off on Friday morning at 4.30am. We had a mission that we wanted to perform in Nelson and this was the day to attempt it. After a good nights sleep we headed out for the day for more laughs, caches and poke our noses here and there, driving and memory making. It was a great day we didn't stop until about 11.30pm back to base for a cuppa and relax and getting ready to do it all again tomorrow!
Grabbed the numbers a few caches ago and we were heading past and made the find.
Thanks for the cache.

Canterbury Show Weekend so headed North to Nelson for a fun caching 3 day weekend with TheWanglers, Karma Reprint & Purdiepurdie......for speed, efficiency & to prevent RSI we signed our logs PKTT.
Grabbed the digits a few caches ago to calculate the final to see if it was near our intended route - it was & after a wee search we netted the prize. Cheers and thanks.

Time to get my son to do some maths while on holiday ,and that he did co ords slightly off of but found anyhow ,, Thanx4tc
Had solved this one a while ago but ran out of time to complete the paperwork then, so took the opportunity today. TFTC, #5929
12759… A nice wee spot for a multi and an equally quick find, many thanks for setting it up, glad there was no Toi Toi on Toi Toi TFTC.
We took a detour on the way home after visiting at the hospital to confirm the wording on the sign. With intermittant rain we decided on taking the shortest way to the cache since it was 'sort of' on our way home anyway. We had just signed the log when a friendly dog walking local decided to point out other trees of interest in the vicinity so as soon as he disappeared the cache was replaced and we beat a hasty retreat back to the car in the now quite heavy rain. TFTC.
The weather got us to use all technology available and it allowed us to stay dry by shaving considerable time off what might have been needed TFTC
[teal]Last day of our 5 day Easter caching roadtrip. Today we were heading home to Greymouth from Nelson. [/teal]
I did the numbers at home and it was easy to squeeze it between our other caches on the list. The sign can be pretty easy to miss but we were glad for a sign to know we were in the right place. The log has previously been wet, its now just damp but is ripping so will need replacing. Thanks for the cache

Multi solved and a quick walk up to GZ meant it was all finished before 8am. TFTC
That was a nice easy multi worked out from the comfort of my office and followed by a quick find on my way home after work. TFTC
Did the first part of this multi a long time ago, can't remember why we didn't finish it at the time but went for a gossip with some friends in Toi Toi today so decided to finish it off. Meandered to GZ a leisurely find and a wander back all very civilized. Log was a little damp but signable. TFTC!
Another walkway I didn't know existed!!! Solved the puzzle and then found the cache after a bit of searching
This is the closest cache to home, I go past the listed coordinates every day, first one I solved but it's taken me 97 finds to get around to this. Huffed and puffed up the steps for an easy find. It was worth it when I turned the torch off and looked up at a sky full of stars
What a hoot! Did the calculations last week. Drove towards the cache. Thought "Oh no. How could I get it so horribly wrong?" Just happened to read the previous logs in the weekend and realised I hadn't got it wrong after all. - - - Completed the challenge today, - - and had a mini-workout at the same time. Learned a little more about the geography of Nelson - - - as you do. Thanks for bringing me here.
In Nelson to visit relatives and took the chance to some caches. We had initial started this one the day before but as we had a buggy didnt attempt the full hike up Toi Toi Street. Set off in the cooler weather with BabyFragglette in sling and BabyFraggle on my shoulders and made short work of the route. Once at GZ quickly located cache and we were on our way. TFTC
As Daddy Fraggle said, we picked up the first part of the multi on the 7th but decided to delay the walk up Toi Toi street when we didn't have the buggy. Got to GZ and the cache was soon in hand - it is always more of a relief will multis as you can never be certain you have the correct co-ordinates until you locate the cache. TFTC and the exercise.
Cache is on the same road. Funny guy. I nearly thought I'd done the maths wrong and then I read the logs. Tempted to drive around to the top but that would have been silly.
TFTC
TFTC
As we drove up the road to park to walk to the final I said "this is that place with all those @#******** steps isnt it "and yep there they were !!! oh well up we go lol not having to go as far this time !! It turned out to be the fist part of quite a few aerobic work outs of the day thanks for bringing us up here again - signed log
Seam to remember this area from a previous cache so after heading up to GZ I made sure i didn't put the GPS down so i wouldn't have to return here to collect it. A nice little multi to get us out and about on a fine day after all the recent weather. TFTC
An easy find whilst out for a walk - had to make the most of a late start at work today!
Dropped Lil' Stu at school and needed to pick up a few things in town so time to do a cache before the shops opened. Parked right next to WP1 and worked out the final. No problems with numbers or maths here. GPS routing wanted me to drive closer but would have taken me up a pedestrian walkway... Stopped in a sensible place instead and walked up to GZ. Nice one. I've found a few 'paper roads' round here. TFTC, Biggles.
A lovely afternoon wander before winter really arrives! Almost had the feeling B & W were watching us from over the hill and far away. TFTC
Wondered whether this really was Toi Toi St as we got further up, and the dog seemed to be wondering how much longer this was going to be, but got there in the end. Nice reminder of how interconnected parts of our town is.
Thanks, Jackie & dog.
Thanks, Jackie & dog.
Nice One!!!!!!!!!Neat combination of places to visit. No worries with the find, although the cache name,a bit of pure luck and trusting the 'ole GPS were the keys to success. Could be a problem for the nocturnal clan. Would like to know more about the old concrete building 100m or so south of GS. Rain, rain and more rain, but much fun. Thanks
We are mainly fair weather cachers. We did go to the waypoint on the first night and found a sign from the car. When the final waypoint didn't seem right and the rain was heavy we came home. Found the final happily tonight after the beta testing from Kiwi Explorer - I am not sure we would have found it with the original coordinates. Thanks to the cache setters and the FTF.
Found in daylight, but I don't know that it was any easier! One of those caches where you must trust your Gps. Good one, thanks.
Would have been easier in daylight, but managed with help of a cellphone torch! TFTC
Failed to find this one in the dark last night. A quick look before work in daylight and the bit I missed last night was revealed. As was the cache. Good fun and a nice specimen at gz. Glad it wasn't in cutty grass. TFTC
wow....well done to Mr KE.....I had a wee mistake in there, and he still sorts it ! Appoligies to all for this. b&w
