Did a sneaky and braved the closed track down to the cache. We weren't the only ones walking on the closed track okay! Hahaha! Container and log in good condition. TFTC! CO may want to consider disabling this cache temporarily or moving it due to it being on a closed track. But to be honest I didn't really mind!
Did the walk up to the top, then took this side track back down. Was a little naughty, as the track was closed due to a recent slippage. As it turns out, the track right where the cache is located looks to be damaged, with cracks in the ground and some steps half off the track. This cache should probably be put into maintenance mode until the surrounding area is repaired. Thanks for the fun anzac61.
We were contemplating walking to the very top of Castle Rock but on closer inspection of the track and my sandal footwear I decided discretion is the better part of valour and opted for the downward leading tack to the geocache. The scenery around here is stunning in all directions. TFTC
What a stunning area to walk, the views were lovely followed with good weather for the day, thanks for the placement.
A very nice cache. A quick grab thanks to the very precise hint. We went at the top, the view is gorgeous! I took a TB and left another.
Walked to the top & found this on the way down. Dropped off our new TB to explore NZ. TFTC A fav point for the location !
Fantastic. Cache #5000. Views along the track are stunning. No pen so have taken a photo. TFTC

What a week this has been but here we are... so lucky! Cyclone Gabrielle struck mid-week wrecking havoc over much of the North Island. Consequently the Masterton-Castlepoint road was closed by huge slips of whole hillsides, many tree falls and substantial flooding at Tinui. Add in a major power outage due to the flooding and fallen trees resulting in Castlepoint being totally cut off so we are very fortunate to get here.
We had a bach booked for five days.
So here we are. There’s a few more people about today, but only a few, so the road through must be open today. It was closed yesterday, Saturday.
Despite that, Castlepoint is dead quiet. The shop is shut but giving away free milk, ice creams and other perishables affected by the power outage or delivered by army truck a couple of days ago.
So I can go walking wherever whenever I want. This is one of the few geocaches I haven't previously found.
Yes the track from the lagoon beach is ‘officially’ closed by a slip, but that seems a rather old slip. There are large cracks in the track and some subsidence in places, along with heaps of old dead thistles, having matured and spread their misery all over. All that just makes the walk to GZ *interesting.*
So I found a starting point (of a sort) and eventually made it to the track proper. A short climb and I’m at GZ. All good. Signed the log and replaced as found.
“Well since the track is closed I may as well continue forwards...” Eight minutes later I’m at the saddle and the **Track Closed** sign. And the **Warning** sign against proceeding further.
But assuming my own risks, and it being a beautiful hot cloudless day, with no wind, I continued on to the top, arriving in another eight minutes. In about the same time I arrived at the (trig) point further along Castle Rock and overlooking Christmas Bay and the southern coast.
What a great perfect day. Thank you for the adventure. And the cache excuse to seize the day and enjoy it.

Note:Track from beach to the Deliverance Track is actually closed due to major slippage especially at beach end. I navigated my way from the top down but wouldn't recommend unless you are a good hiker with long legs! Signed log and grabbed TB.
Today we visited Castlepoint and take a lovely walk to the lighthouse and the bay. Wonderful landscape and good weather.

Time to right a wrong and turn the blue face from 8 years ago, into a smiley face.
It was just starting to drizzle but not enough to deter me.
Once at gz it was a super straight forward find this time around. I don't recall searching in this spot last time, buy happy to finally put this one to bed.
I left a pet rock - a badger.
Thanks for putting this here

Lovely day today, very little wind and warm. Enjoyed climbing the steps, glad it wasn't at the top. Cache in good condition. Tftc
Last cache for the day, found on our way back down from the very top of Castle Rock. Fabulous views in all directions! Thanks for placing this cache in such a great spot.
Have had a fantastic morning today walking up to the lighthouse and beyond, then climbing over the reef and watching the waves come in finally topped off by a walk from the south end of the beach right up to the top of Castle Rock! Then we meandered back on the ridge and through the little bit of forest to the car in the carpark. What a blast! Had to go back to this spot to retrieve the cache as I had forgotten about it when we walked past it. Just a little bit more exercise so I didn't mind. Great spot - a favourite from me, TFTC
Visiting the area this weekend and although the weather wasn't great managed to get up here for a quick find, all good. TFTC>
Nice quick find thanks to accurate coords and hint.
Started the loop at the freedom bludging spot at the top of Jetty Rd and there were no signs of any track closure. However when we got to the start of the track down to the cache there was a "closed" sign but the end date was yesterday. So we walked the track and it is fine and just hasn't got any gravel on it. If they really don't want people walking this bit how hard would it be to put a notice at the start if the tracks people know in advance?

Found this one while on a holiday away from our home in Whangamata thanks for the cache. At the present they are repairing the track so be careful

A quick easy find on our walk while on holiday in the area. A fantastic day with fantastic weather. TFTC!
After visiting the lighthouse we wandered along the beach towards Castle Rock. It was a very hot day and we weren’t too keen to go all the way up the trail so made our way to gz and soon had the cache in hand. Great views back along the beach and towards the lighthouse
Heading down to Masterton for a week of work. Decided to skip SH2 and take the scenic route nearer the coast. Spent the night at Alfredton Domain which was very peaceful. Now heading to Castlepoint. Found this cache while doing the circular walk to the top of Castle Rock. Well worth the effort to climb to the top. Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.
Relying on the ol Buggars memory to find this awesome cache. Was in the right spot. On my way down I nearly tripped over a rock and fell on a seal sleeping.
After two days of wind and rain track to the top was a bit slippery but got there. Slippery coming down this way as well. Recommend going up this way as going down the other way us more gentle.
Nice find. Great views.
Nice find. Great views.
First of the day after staying here overnight at the local holiday park. Nice walk out here on the track we quickly located the cache and decide to return via the beach. Unfortunately as we approached the access to the beach a Sea Lion stood in our way. We spent a few minutes eyeballing each other and then he moved off and up a little to make enough room for us to carefully scramble down to the beach and back to the carpark
Castlepoint was so not on my itinerary, but an unforeseen change of plans yesterday kept me in Masterton. So I came here today and am I glad, I did. Best tdd weather and not a lot of ppl made this trip to one of my favorites. TFTC
Found on the climb up the rock. Lovely day. You would never know it was winter. Awesome view from the top. Tftc.
Nice walk up castle rock on a family weekend away. This is not right at the top as I originally thought it would be. High muggle area even in winter. TFTC.
On our way down from Castle Rock and despite the path being different to the map on our devices, we found this quickly!! TFTC
Our final cache for the day, as the tide is wrong to get the one out on the reef. We’ve had a brilliant time in the morning getting the ones nearer to the Lighthouse and then the afternoon walked out to Castle Rock for the brilliant views there. What an absolutely great day’s caching.
We are back in castlepoint after a side trip to Riverside. Its past 5.30 but the tide is still too high to get over there. So we are checking out Surfs Up first. Left temp RITR log here to keep this one rolling along. Cheers
Day 22 - Friday 22 January 2020. Wellington. Its a trip to Castle Point today with Taybee and Taybee NZ.
The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

This was a much less of a challenge than I was expecting. Taybeedragon and I climbed up while Taybee and TaybeeNZ watched from below (I'm not sure if they already have this cache or had decided that they are not fit enough). Anyway, I was expecting the cache at the top. Nice walk, great view. Favourite.
I have lost my notebook! When I go on a geotrip I record my finds and notes in a log book or, in the case of this big circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki that Taybeedragon and I did over Christmas, in three notebooks. And I have lost notebook number 3 - 29th December onward. Luckily I enter the caches as found on the GPS (helps with avoiding backtracking) so I am using my GPS log to identify which caches I found/DNFed. Alas, however, no cache notes. So it is now March - and I am relying on memory. A fickle thing, memory. I suspect most will have no notes above. Sorry, folks.

We will spend a night at the campsite to enjoy the surroundings. What a road to come here to the end of the world.
A beautiful sunny day, but a lot of wind with gusts to decorate the oxen.

Day 10 of our NZ trip. Enjoying Castle Point in the rain today. Great walk, and an easy find. TFTF Greetings from
One of 12 located on a day of sightseeing/walking/exploring in the Wairarapa, with a few caches thrown in for good measure! First caches at Castlepoint, then some en route to our ‘base’ near Carterton, and a few later on in the Greytown area.
Took the high road – quite a long trek – to find another cache and this one. Great views along the way and from this spot. Found this one without difficulty. #2288. TFTC.

We're spending Wellington Anniversary weekend in the Wairarapa; this afternoon it was a trip out to the beach. It started with a leisurely lunch at the Tinui hotel before continuing out to Castlepoint. The wind was getting up so we didn't swim but spent three hours walking and exploring. Had a great walk up to the top of Castle Rock - busy up there today - then this was a nice quick find on the way down. TFTC.

MEGA TRIP 2018.
As usual with the annual MEGA event, we partook in our annual MEGA Trip. However this year was a little different from others, with much more sleep and a little less time caching than usual, but just as much fun being had along the way.
The general goal for the trip was to focus on all the new Virtual caches published over the last year, visiting Cape Palliser (for the Southern most cache in the NI), and Castle Point, along with spending time at the MEGA Event. With this in mind hiring a campervan from Hamilton and seemed like the best way to tackle this goal, plus sleeping in a car with four people, would just be too cramped!
The trip was a great success, and our goals were achieved. A big thanks to all CO's for there hides.
LEG 3: Mega, Cape Palliser and Castle Point: Todays plan was to spend some time this morning at the Mega Event before heading off to Cape Palliser and then working our way North to Castle Point. Two places that have been on the to visit list for a while now.
I couldn't leave this place without gaining some height and checking out the view of castle rock from another perspective. The sun was not long from starting to disappear for the day, so the view was even more epic. Thanks for the hide.

Well it's the WENZ Mega Weekend and a plan was hatched to motorhome (as we thought it would make a difference from sleeping in a car which is our normal accommodation method) down here in the company of HKCB, 11HPG11 & Alpenmilch80 and head for a few caches along the way.
As time was of the essence and we had planned to spend bugger all time at the actual mega but rather head for specific caches that we would otherwise not collect.
The record keeping for this trip was a total of 1750kms, (fuel = $450) and less than 100 caches, plenty of Beer & Wine and I still call it a complete success as we got what we came for.
After an amazing trip along the south coast it was time to cache back up to Castlepoint. The drive out here was pretty amazing and long but we finally made it to enjoy the late afternoon at Castlepoint.
thanks to all the CO's for whoom without this trip would not have been possible.
thanks for the placement

During lunch time on Friday I flew into Wellington from Auckland to meet up with some crazy Hamilton’s (11HPG11, Cats&Dragons & HKCB) to spend some time at the 2018 WENZ Mega and then driving the huge campervan back to the Tron.
After the night spend with a hearty meal and good drinks we refreshed ourselves before moving in the direction of the mega. Afterwards we left the Hutt to drive out to Cape Palliser. And now we are on our way to Castle Point. We parked the giant at the beach and made our way to the lighthouse. During sunset we decided to walk over to collect this one which provided a stunning view across to the lighthouse. Now back to the campervan for some amazing cheese sandwiches and a cold beer. TFTC

It's Mega time! This year we decided to hire a motorhome and travel down in relative luxury, very different to the last few years. Our team this year consisted of Cats&Dragons, HKCB and later on Alpenmilch80, and myself, logs were signed as MEGAHOAC. We went on a bit of a whirlwind trip round the lower half of the north island, chasing virtuals, earthcaches and anything a little bit different.
We arrived here late afternoon and enjoyed a stroll up to the lighthouse. The sun was quickly setting and we were treated to some awesome colours over the sea, rocks and lighthouse. Could have spent a lot more time here exploring, such a great spot that I will remember for a long time. Thanks for bringing us here.
A bit of a race against time to make it up here before it got really dark. We had a torch but managed to get up before it got too dark and scary. Amazing views, thanks for bringing us here.

These school holidays to keep me getting out and about, I have set myself the goal to find a geocache every day of the holidays. So far, I have kept to that goal and found at least one geocache everyday!
Today, because it was such good weather, my family decided we should take our friends that were staying for a few days to Castlepoint beach. I totally agreed, mainly because there was still a few geocaches there that I hadn't ticked off yet, is that bad? So in the afternoon when everyone was ready to go, we all squished into two cars and took the long drive down to Castlepoint.
After having a small afternoon tea with the family and a short beach walk with some friends, I raced off to this side of the beach to find the geocache. After quite a windy walk, I arrived at the start of the track up the cliff. I am not the best when it comes to common sense because I didn't put shoes on before coming here, so I had survive walking up the stony path. It ended up being less painful than expected, but it wasn't that long of a stroll anyway. Before starting my hunt I quickly looked at the hint to direct myself in the correct direction. This helped tremendously as my search took little time and soon I had the geocache in my grasp. I signed the log and happily took the trackable, I will try to give it a new home as soon as possible! TFTC, beautiful views!!

Today's weather wasn't the best for geocaching but I enjoyed today's walks despite the lack of sunlight and the sometimes strong winds. This mission took me over ground I hadn't covered before and I was pleased to be make it into my preferred loop walk. The briefest of searches was required to figure out the treasure's hiding place.
This cache was what I refer to as a crossover one; an unfound Wellington region cache that is closer to home than my nearest unfound Manawatu-Wanganui one. This is one of the silly little challenges I set myself to add some extra interest to my involvement in this pastime. By chipping away at caches from both ends,I hope to eventually have a clear distinction (in terms of distance) between the two categories.

Bit of a hike around the track on a hot and humid day, but found the cache without problem. Definitely time for a VERY refreshing dip after all that excercise.

#9903. A good day exploring different parts of the Castlepoint Scenic Reserve with Mr-Mcgoo in sunny but very windy weather. We made sure we came after high tide today. In fact, we arrived slightly before mid-tide and had no problem walking across from the road-end car park.
After exploring the reef, we looked towards Castle Rock, and thought a good walk was in order. It did not take too long to get to GZ. Although there were other walkers on the track, GZ was all quiet when we arrived. Mr-Mcgoo made a quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
Continued on our walk to the top of Castle Rock afterwards.

Gosh what a windy day but not unusual here I think. The breakers were huge as we walked across the beach. Of course as we got to GZ my GPS died but thanks to an excellent clue we found the cache. Then a drama on the beach as a vehicle drove into softer sand in the rising tide and got stuck. Very luckily for him a 4x4 was also on the beach and managed to tow him away before the vehicle disappeared! Thanks.
Back in feb '17 i was with thebigflax when they logged the cache but i wasn't a premium member, 11 months on i am a premium member and glad to log this cache. Really hot morning for the climb but Rewarded with excellent views.
Thanks for the cache

Took a 5am hike up Castle Rock for sunrise. Beautiful day but a steep climb to the top! Somehow didn’t bring a pen so I’ve taken a photo of the logbook instead - hope this is okay. Thanks for the cache
Amazing location with simply stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Fascinating area with the rocks and tree growth. Nice quick find too!
An easy find on the way down from castle rock. A section of the track is closed just above the cache due to the risk of rock fall, but there's a makeshift detour through the brush. TCTC! Dry log and all is well.
Well what can I say. Beautiful awesome place with steep but quick climb to amazing GZ. The view oh yea. Thx for sharing this place.
A weekend away with the family, visiting various spots in the Wairarapa, so what better to do than nab a few caches that happen to be on the route. Mostly good weather and the roads not too busy made for some good caching.

Together with Fenz i had the pleasure to visit New Zealand. We were traveling around for quite some time and thought: Why not combine that with some geocaching! That doubled the fun and we found a lot nice places we wouldnt have, if we werent looking for the boxes invisible to the other tourists. For details on our cache finds see the logs of Fenz. We want to thank all the owners for their effort, the nice hides and the fun we had on our journey! Definitely gonna come back to you Kiwis, greetings from the other end of the world, keep it on!
Found this cache on the way down from the one on the top. Many more people down here than there was up there.
Cache is all good and dry.
Thank you

Walking down to the beach, we stopped here and had a little climb on the rocks
