TFTC! 28 September 2024 6:36:06PM 8551 thanks to bucketeer for the cache! My gps wanted us to go down but the terrain rating said otherwise. Had the right idea to start with, but couldnt find it, about to move on and another sweep and was mm away the first time! Great view!
After yesterday's Father's Day Festivities, I dragged Cracker Dad out of bed much earlier than he would usually be to pick up a few of the Portland Caches before driving back to Melbourne. The views down to Blacknose Point were really impressive today. Loved the cache container! Thanks bucketeer for the nice views and fun cache container.
Out for the day with ConnieandRick to grab a few caches that I haven't found previously. Pacman had tried for this one previously and, after the previous cache, we joined with him to check this one out. After we searched for a few minutes of searching, he had the honour of finding it.Many thanks to Manuel for the cache.
Travelling with iluvtrekking from our home state of WA on. SA caching foray. Staying in Portland for a few days to grab some of the local hides. Its been sixteen years since since we were last here so enjoying the re-visit. Cute - but he needs medical help for that condition Thanks for the hide
We are travelling with richlink on our Annual Caravan Geocaching road trip, using geocaching as our guide. We are staying in Portland for a few days, wandering around the area enjoying the amazing sights this area has to offer. Cute, TFTC bucketeer. LNCU.
----------### **OWNER MAINTENANCE REQUESTED PLEASE** ###----------Hi there bucketeer,It looks like this cache might need some attention, as one or more seekers have indicated there is some sort of issue. Sneaky little rat was nowhere to be found, but then we found him. TFTC Needs new log very wet.
Now that Portland has been added to my region, I'll be visiting at least a few times a term which means all new geocaches for me to look for and enjoy!Sneaky little hide with a beautiful view. My first time visiting the region so I have plenty to explore. Thanks for the hide
Finally found this almost 7 years after my first attempt. This time it wasnt raining and I had both kids, my wife and my MIL with me. I definitely overthought it the first time, and the terrain kept us in focus this time. TFTH
Well that wasn't there last time i was here ( years ago ). Quickist find this time, that cammo looks very life like. fav point.Found with Mogni. I think this is the most changed trip in the planning stage that i have ever been on. The " original trip " was supposed to start on the 31st of dec but at the start of decemeber life changed and the trip was now starting on the 26th of decemeber and all accommodation that had booked cancelled and now see what else is free on the ealier dates. A major readjust of plans and got 1/2 the trip booked before the next curve ball came in to alter the plans again. More adjusting the plans again and i realized i could host 2 CITO's in 2 different LGA's in victoria. What we do to qualify for victorian challenge caches. Also i got my 20, 000 cache over in victoria in this trip. It was decided in the end that the 4x4 was going to be the vechicle for this trip that way we could go and target all the caches that you never get, the ones down the sandy/rocky/dirt and forestry roads/tracks. We left Adelaide and headed to Casterton for a couple of days, then to Budj Bim National Park ( and saw 5 koalas in the camp ground high up in the trees ), then over Heywood, a night in Mount Gambier plus there attended the 3rd CITO of the trip before sending a few nights in Millicent and then finally home. Over 250 caches found plus 86 lab caches. Mogni also got her 11th D/T loop. I also got 3 more victorian LGA's up to 20 finds mininium for another victorian challenage cache. If the cache was broken/eaten/smashed it was reaced with a new container and if the logsheet was wet it was replaced and if the log was full or almost full extra log sheets were added to the cache.
Yet another DNF in Portland. This one I'm pretty sure is missing as there are limited hiding spots.

On our way to visit the ganet colony and decided to grab this on the way past. We did a bit of a loop before it being spotted and grabbed. Just at that moment I mentioned a rat. That made my partner jump and drop the cache.
Thanks for the placement
Thanks for the placement
It took us several minutes before we found the pesky rat: It looks like it has not been fed well recently, still it could not escape the hungry vulture's eyes and fangs for too long.
Cool camo and theme! Thanks to Manuel from Barcelona and to bucketeer from Portland

Day 3 of my road trip through the south west of Victoria... a day out to Portland... with plans to find enough caches to tick off Glenelg Shire for the *12 Circuits of Victoria Challenge* that I am working on... and generally have a great time!
My GPS nearly had me totally derailed with this one... it kept pointing me "down there"! Yeah, that would line up with the Hint... but not the Terrain Rating. Finally the penny dropped and I saw a much easy location... more fitting to both the Hint and the Terrain Rating... and yeah, there was the cache.
Thanks **Manuel / bucketeer** for this cache.

SL at 2pm. Day out with bdiaw. After we had worked up an appetite by browsing the op shops, we had some lunch. I have not dined alfresco in many months. This was really nice considering the cool breeze. The hoons are out and about too because of the show and shine tomorrow. Lots of cool cars in town at the moment. As I was busy fraternising with the locals, bdiaw made the sneaky discovery here today.

Looked and looked,to no avail. A worker arrived in a Service truck, so decided we'd head out to some caches on the point. On our way back, the daughter decided to try once more, younger eyes found it quickly and we could see why it has achieved so many FP
Found on our travels through the area, heading from Portland to Warrnambool today. Cool cache spot, a quick find here after keeping the terrain rating in mind. All good here.
Find #5160 on 1 Feb 2023.

We decided to have a quick day trip to Portland. After a lovely trip on the Tram and a yummy lunch, we thought we'd have a look at the caches around the place. Found this one surprisingly quickly! What a beautiful view of the sea. TFTC. Found by Cache in the Hat
Here at Portland we have found a few more in the area and this was one of them.
Cache and contents were in good condition, a clever hide and adding to our favourites..
Thanks to all the cache owners whose caches we found today.

Visiting my father while child free as they are at Scout camp on the other side of Melbourne. My father suggested us walking around the Alcoa reserve looking for koalas. We found 10. Since the cache was nearby, we wandered over. 2nd time lucky. Hubby made a quick find. Thanks for the cache. Had no pen so took photo to send to CO
The story of this cache for us goes something like this ... DNF DNF DNF. A true 'nemesis' cache, we have had several attempts to find Basil on each of our trips down to Portland over the last few years. Even the occasional PAF hadn't helped (because despite always living in the same area, Basil has had to move hidey hole from time to time, through no fault of his own). We wondered if he had succumbed to the ratatouille after all.
We travelled down to Portland again this week, mainly to catch up with good friends at the 'Twosday' event to celebrate the date 22/2/22. So of course we yet again tried to catch up with Basil as well. Yesterday we even had some assistance with a couple of extra pair's of eyes and hands who had previously met Basil, and we still had no luck! We reached out to the ever-patient landlord/CO who tried to guide us, and we found out later that each of us had had our hands within millimetres of Baz.
Eventually we got that last little push, and today ... finally ... we found Basil. Thank you Manuel for Basil and all your help. We hope this elusive rat enjoys many years of visitors to come.

Suscoe was having a short break down here in Portland.
After a pleasant and sunny drive down, we settled in to some caching.
A late afternoon wander brought us out here.
A quick find once we had the right level.

With last night's night caches found this morning, it was time to tackle the last available Adventure Lab in Portland before heading over to Cape Bridgewater. We found a few caches whilst completing the Adventure and this was one of them! Don't know why I hadn't found this one the last time I was here. Cool spot! Thanks for the cache Manuel.

In town for a few days for work, doing some training with the local Vicses team. It has been many years since I have visited Portland, but always enjoy my time here.
My may focus was the adventure labs in town but had sometime for this cache.

Found with a bit of lateral thinking this afternoon. No towels around, but plenty of places to hang them out to air here. Basil the Rat wouldn’t be among them though. He was found in a different type of place. You’ll need a bit bit more energy and activity than that indicated by the T1.5 rating. Luckily The_Evil_Muggle was willing to do the required gymnastics to retrieve and replace the cache as found.
Clocks changed, so I’m up early this morning, 5.30am (really 6.30am), early coffee and a few finds before sunrise.
TFTC. We were on our way back toward Portland and pulled up here to attempt the cache. After looking in the wrong spots we changed tack to find the clever cache,
No wonder we did not find this cache in 2017, it was not where we thought it would be. SL TFTF
I found the Siberian Hampster in a place I didn't expect to find such a creature. I would have expected it to be hidden away in a hole on a different level altogether but maybe that's because I am confusing it with the abode of the common rattus rattus who prefers the dirt.
Favourite point for keeping my surfer daughter amused watching the break whilst I went cache hunting...

It took a while to find this cache as I was expecting something different. I got distracted by a couple of hidey holes but after a more thorough search, spotted this little chap. Great container.

A great themed effort here. Loved that episode. This is a rat not a hamster!

Our last morning to explore. A quick stop here and cache was found without too many issues. We loved following the pipe and see it go underground and come back out. And the emergency exits are cool too. So many fascinating things in Portland. Thanks for the cache.
