Find # 14203I'm in the Adelaide area for the Great Leap Forward event. Not just for the days event, but making it a week long trip of caching n catching up with mates.Flying solo......Day 8. Homeward-bound.Day started off with a tree climb and a big stretch off the ground. Then a bit of a look around Mt Barker. Then it was the trails. It's been a while since I've hit a long trail and being alone it was just me and the caches to fill the rest of the day in. Some power trails are tougher than others, ie parking locations and barriers can be annoying and chew up time. But happily I managed all hurdles. Even the odd orb spider that made some tracks mazes. Happily that what I'd pland out fell into place with only a couple of DNFs.End of day was a surprise with my biggest solo grab of over 300 in a day. But I have plenty more trails in SA to utilise if I want to better that score TFTC Team Crackers

14-Nov-21
Caching with the JAMS crew finding Wandering Heroes caches. We ended up finding over 300 and hiding 2 more. We replaced a lot of containers that were broken. We had a few showers of rain early which were getting us wet but they didn't last too long and it ended up being a nice day. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing the caches.

14-Nov-21

Out with the JAMS crew JJ52, Mogni, Allister W and sir_spectre, plus TallBikeStan and BratKat on this run. The logs where stamped as Mystery Randoms. The target's today where the Wander Heros trail ( as far as we could get ) plus any other caches in the towns or close to the road and the nearby Lab cache in Karoonda. We got slowed down by the rain till almost lunch. No wildlife sighted, not even a kanagroo. We found over 300 + caches, some of us had found some of them before but we are aligning all of our maps to the same finds. We replaced over 40 wandering heroes caches we found broken, most logbooks where dry and put in the new cache. Any logsbooks found close to full had a scroll added to the cache and all broken caches we removed and put in the bin. By the end of the day we had over a garage bag full of broken caches.

14-Nov-21
Another JAMS day was organised to tackle the Wandering Heroes trail (JJ52, allister w, mogni, sir_spectre plus tallbikestan and BratKat). We started the day with rain and hail as we drove through the hills towards Tailem Bend but by the time we started the series we just had a couple of light showers and then for the rest of the day it was fine although we had strong cool winds. Surprised

That didn't stop us though, and we had a fun day finding around 300 caches plus an Adventure Lab in Karoonda. Cool We had come prepared with lots of spare containers and replaced a heap of broken containers and sometimes logbooks. We managed to get to Sandalwood where we called it a day, so now have plans to come back and completed the last of the series. Big Grin

This was my first visit out here since 2016 and by the end of the day I had 197 finds plus the Adventure Lab which I was pretty happy about. Big Grin

Thanks for the cache Team Crackers. Smile

Gah, I try really hard to log in order but something always mucks me up. I went out of OUR way to find this one much to my families digust....... insert laughing... Geo hubby gets sick of it sometimes.... who knows why??
Anyway, being a Team Crackers cache and about dak's Emu Mob I thought I should find it. I never met dak's he was before our caching time but I do look after Multi for Species5618 https://coord.info/GCPP1Q, We're not in California anymore, who did a cache exchange with dak's back in the day. Species have been kind to me, they have placed a cache for me in the USA as a thank you. Happiness all around.
Anyway Vale Dave, you sound like a top bloke, thanks for your contribution to Geocaching.

The Wandering Heroes trail keeps on wandering and so do we, along with ilook4geo. Most of the caches we did today were in acceptable condition, although there were still a couple where containers need to be replaced and a few logs that also need to be renewed. As is normal, each log had our visit noted by the addition of two lots of initials, being GP2 and ilg.
Our thanks go to Team Crackers for adding to this trail and to the fun of the game.

I had planned a big few days of caching in SA so I left work on a Tuesday evening and hit the road from Melbourne. This was my third full day of caching and the Wandering Heroes caches (and assorted others nearby) were on my target list. It was a blisteringly hot day (felt hotter than the 39C recorded on my car!) and the dry and dusty conditions made it hard going at times. My first task having left where I was staying overnight in Murray Bridge was to head to the Geopets series. Once I was done there I headed on to the Wandering Heroes and others along that route. Many took me longer than expected with different containers, hide styles and some further off the road. In the end I had to adjust my expectation of finds for the day before I headed north to where I was staying overnight. Thanks to Team Crackers for this cache and to all COs for placing and maintaining this remarkable series. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables. I started caching too late to know dak but I have heard him mentioned many times.

Tuesday 8 November 2018.

Congrats on being honoured on this trail. I've heard all about this legend and how sad that he passed away.

5546 - what a number, especially at that stage in the geocaching landscape when powertrails were not around!

Yet another fabulous day out with gridge98...so fabulous that we stamped all of the logs as "Fabulous Randoms" (the ink in a few was becoming a little light).

We stopped at about 150 caches today as we were on a mission for Connor to reach his 4,000th caching milestone, and for me to get closer to my 10,000th. I'd found a few before today so my find count was a little lower, but anything over the 100 mark is a great day caching! We even began our day by attending a coffee event at 7:30am and then finished it with dinner and movies...haha, yep, the GIFF event was on tonight at the German Club.

Thanks so much for the cache Team Crackers! [^]

We found 150 along the way till we had to pull the pin and head home. Happy to find my 4000th at the last one. TFTC for all the CO for placing the caches. Some of the caches are in poor condition others are fantastic hides. We stamped all the caches with the fabulous randoms stamp

It sounds like dak's was a cool cacher and a friendly member to the caching community...it was here under the shade of the trees (in the car air conditioning as it was 37 degrees outside)...we ate our lunch that was prepared earlier...a lovely spot...

Oh wow, what a trail ! The WEEO and I flew down from Canberra to cache this trail and around MB and my wonderful Auntie put us up (future cacher there too Wink). We made it all the way to Loxton in 2 days but were shagged by the end. The caches were mostly fab and gave us a laugh along the way.

Thanks to all you cachers in the MB area for the great work in putting this together, you guys rock!

After a few months of planning, and trial runs I finally attempted and complete my goal of doing a 24 hour SOLO cache run!!!

One Man, One Day, 441 caches found!

I booked two nights at Murray bridge and arrived at 8:00 pm. Attempted without success to sleep until 11:30 pm then got up and went to the location of the first cache. As the clock turned to midnight I began.

Speed through the Oz Mega 2014 Trail with only a handful of DNFs, then picked a few up along the highway until I got to the GeoPets trail.

After this I cut through to Wandering Heroes and completed up to the "OTS: May" trail. Went along this and came back into Tailem Bend for lunch and fuel and few in town. Was beginning to get weary but proceeded back to where I left off in the Wandering Heroes.

From here on in I just completed as many of these as I could up through Karoonda in the hot hot mid 30's day until midnight stuck a few kms east of town.

441 finds was the total count and now I just had to drive back to Murray Bridge. Easier said then done after being awake for practically 40 hours. Hit the hotel pillow at 1:20 am and was out within seconds.

Thanks for all the wonderful caches around this area, and sorry for generic logs.

28-Dec-15
I found this cache today as number 99 of 161 in company of Cold Freeze on our Karoonda Road Run III. Our first run back in 2008 was well before Wandering Heroes and yielded just 14 caches along the entire road and our caching figures were in the 2,000's back then. Our second run in 2012 brought us 160 caches where we started at Loxton and continued caching all the way past Karoonda to just before the Murray Bridge - Tailem Bend Junction. From there, we headed into Tailem Bend for Dinner and continued back from there for a few extra caches before giving up about an hour before dark. Our caching numbers were in the 5,000s at that time. Today, with caching numbers now in the 8,000s, we picked up at the point we had left off last time near the Murray Bridge - Tailem Bend Junction and headed south with the aim of finishing off all of these caches then caching our way back towards Loxton. I had not counted the caches in this section before leaving home and I thought that there were probably about 80 caches there. Once we got them all done, we found that there were just over 140 left in that area so we didn't get much past Karoonda on the way back after all. A great day though nonetheless and there looks to be at least one more full caching day to come at some stage. A good friend of ours and we had stopped when we also reached 5,546 cache finds. That will always be Dak's number which was the most cache finds by an Australian at the time. Thanks to all cache placers in this series today from D B-A.

We had arrived in Tailem Bend last night, met up with Geodad as he has been working in Adelaide for almost 3 weeks. We surely do miss him. Our Geoboys had no football this w/end, we had nothing planned so this treck was in mind not being sure what the weather was going to be like we thought we would give it a start anyway. We had breakfast, a few cachers around Tailem Bend. Filled the car with fuel, said our goodbyes to Geodad & away we went on this incredible experience. Starting at approx 11am. Had a quick glance of the Honour Roll to see who & how many of these awesome geocachers we knew or had met on our travels during our Geocaching Experience. We haven't had the pleasure to meet Dak's Emu Mob as of yet. Quick & easy find. TFTS Smile

Take 2 at what we started during OZ Mega Murray Bridge, took us a while to get back here but we made it. TFTC.

31-May-15
We arrived in Tailem Bend about 7.30 a.m. to make a start on the Wandering Heroes trail in the hope of getting 100 per day for two days. Our first day was tiring with a fair bit of bush bashing to do to get caches.
We got caught in quite a few showers of rain and spent a long time on the road, but managed a comfortable tally for the day.

Thanks to all who placed and maintained caches here for this great 'adventure trail'. Excuse my generic logs, but with so many to do, individual logs are a bit past me tonight.

Thanks Team Crackers for your effort here.

On a mission to find 100 caches in a day, thanks for the series. TFTC

07-Mar-15
Project “Centroid” was on. After a bit of planning Fleabag and I decided to head towards Adelaide again for the long weekend to get 500 or so caches to move our centroid far enough away from home to complete a challenge cache in Melbourne. We managed to get 501 just for good measure.
At the same time we tried to get a few areas of Victoria done on the way there and back to start working on another challenge cache back in Melbourne.
Today was a wandering heroes day until we had to head into Murray Bridge to pickup some replacement caches from the CO to replace a number of the Oz Mega series that are missing which we will fix up tomorrow.
I'm giving this a favourite because one of Dak's caches was the whole reason for our last long road trip.
Thanks for the cache, the hunt and the fun.

07-Mar-15
Spiffy- and I were on a project to get 500 caches in 4 days that were over 100km from our home locations. I reallly enjoyed this series and the themed hides. Great idea and a nice tribute to all the cachers. With each cache we would recall if we had met them at events and what caches they owned. A long and tiring but very enjoyable day. Thanks for the cache.

[red]Find #1456[/red] Big Grin

A quick and easy find for us today. Stamped and returned as found.

We had planned a family geo trip a few weeks ago and I left it up to the geo wife to decide where she wanted to go. Murray Bridge was one of three places to visit. Lucky she decided on this area, so we could try for 200+ in a day [^] Sometimes the parking was very difficult being double white lines and plenty of passing cars, having a companion to drive / swap with made this series that little bit easier. It was a very hot day & plenty of hours were spent in the car with much water needed. We found some great containers & loved the idea of this series. Now to rest the wheels....

[blue]Thanks for this cache, Team Crackers & to everyone for the series Smile TNLN[/blue]

This day I'm on a Geo - adventure in the countryside with Dr. Owl, our mission: get all the happy smiles we could and discover the Wandering heroes !
We saw a classic:
"stonehenge style"
"home invasion cache" the ones in the middle of a tree hole of some possum home
"incredible camouflage" the ones with the natural wood on the top or some dry leaves
"Home sweet home" the ones who are now habitat by spiders,
Beetles, ants and some little creatures...
Well a totall adventure but the best of all I had a wonderfull day with Dr Owl !! Smile

Owl needed to do some maintenance on a wandering hero, so she collected Andy Colombia and headed off for an adventure. The cache had already been maintained by someone else, so they had to fill in the time with caching. Lots of caching. This was an appropriate find of an appropriate cache.

One of my challenges I set myself for my trip to the SA MEGA was to see how many caches I could find in 24 hours. Surprised
Today was the day. I parked the car the night before out at the furtherest point of the caches of the OZ MEGA 2014 and slept the night there with the alarm set for just before midnight. Big Grin
My aim was to complete the OZ MEGA 2014 caches then start along the Wandering Heros series and see how far I got. Cool
At midnight I started. With no one else on the roads I moved quickly along each of the roads looking for those little 'suspicious piles of stones'. Razz By 6 am I had just the arrow head to go. I stopped the car and changed clothes as I was getting hot in the thermals. ... and the car would not start. 2 hours later the RAA turned up and said I had a flat battery. [?] [?] [?]
Found the remaining caches (except the couple that are now missing) and headed south for the Wandering Heros series finding the odd one along the road.[^]
The Wandering Hero series are different containers at different distances from the road so they were a little trickier to find at times and my find rate slowed down a little. Slowly the day continued and my count continued to grow, passing 200 and 300. Just after 7:30pm I passed 400 caches and I eventually stopped at 8pm exhausted just before Mindarie. Big Grin
20 hours and just over 400 caches. Cool

Apologies for the cut and paste logs.

It was time for specimenX and myself to head back to Murray Bridge to do the Signal PT and some of the Wandering Hero's. It was a 2 hour drive there and we arrived and went straight into the Signal series. We were suprised at how they were scattered and doubted a few of our answers but it seems we had them all right and we found the whole lot. We then headed off for some lunch and collected a couple of Oz Mega 2014 caches that had gone astray on our last visit.

Murray Bridge was almost a ghost town compared to the Easter weekend. We were still looking for the Kookie magnets (habbit now lol) and we were kinda missing all the geomobiles with their flags flying high. Seems Murray Bridge was back to BAU and we were once again engaging stealth mode for our activities.

Once we had eaten, we decided to try our luck and do as many Wandering Hero's as our bodies would allow. specimenX was like a bull at a gate, just kept going and going and going. We evetually called it quits at a daily total of 204 finds (our highest yet) and started the 2 hour drive home at 1am in the morning. By the time we got home, we were well and truely exhausted, showered then crashed immediately.

In the Wandering Hero's, we managed to get from the Tailum Bend turnoff all the way to Karoonda Road/Kulde Road intersection. We then headed up Karoonda Road towards Bowhill Road (heading towards Murray Bridge) to collect The Lost Wanderers.

There are still SOOOOO many Wandering Hero's we need to collect so it looks like another SA trip will be in the planning Smile

Thanks to all the CO's who have placed caches for us to collect and also bigh shout out to those who maintain these caches. Very enjoyable exhausting day. Big Grin

Off we go again! This time Rapidlywild and I decided to tackle the Wandering Heroes caches after completing the Oz Mega Signal power trail-insane! Big Grin[:O)]

Once again Rapidlywild was the driver and I was the runner [:O)] Most of the caches were nice, quick finds although several of them were a little bit elusive to us in the dark so RW joined in for the search Smile

I enjoyed the variety of the hides along the way; several were quite creative! All up for the day we totalled 204 finds and ended with a 1am finish Surprised Absolutely geobuggered after that! lol! Big GrinSmile

Thanks to all the CO’s for placing their caches in this fantastic series! Smile

What a week this has been at the Oz Mega Event in Murray Bridge SA. I have so many caches to log so it will have to be a cut and paste log because of the numbers but this does not mean that that I don't appreciate the effort that all the cache owners have put in to hide these caches because without the hiders we would not have the pleasure of finding the vast number of caches that have been placed in this area and also the owners of caches along the roads that we have to travel to arrive in M.B and return back to our homes.
I left Geelong on Wednesday 16th April 2014 and arrived home a week later with close to 500 caches found and now the mammoth task of logging all of these caches.
Thanks to all the cache owners who placed caches for everybody to find.
Early Monday 21st April I ventured out to this group with fellow cacher Happy Feet 1 (Robin and Josh) signing the logs as B & HF1 and finding all along the way until we decided to return to Murray Bridge with our aim today was to log at least 150.
This is not the order we found these but for ease of logging I will log in order.

Here in the area for the Oz Mega from Wodonga, spending the day with Bushfire. Our goal today was to grab 150 caches along the Wandering Heros Trail. It is wonderful to see these people who have been recognised along the way. Nice to remember DAK even though we never met him. Yes we 'hate Em in rocks' too.
We are back on the Wandering HEROES trail after attending the Oz Mega where we met many of the caching heroes we have heard of and seen in logs.

Thanks for your cache Team Crackers, we found on our way to the OzMega Event in Murray Bridge to be held over Easter. Yoru cache helped to break up the long drive from Perth and give us an excuse to stop and stretch our legs.

Found during the Oz Mega Event. Today was a day of learning about many great cachers. We loved reading about the different caching heroes, but only know a few of them. We were so impressed with the condition of the caches and would like to congratulate the heroes and the cachers responsible for maintaining the caches.

Found with Kiwigeoswami and Granville86a on our Oz Mega 2014 Road trip from Invercargill New Zealand. Such a great idea to honour cachers and I enjoyed reading the stories behind the nominated cacher. Thanks to all those who took the time to place the cache and those who maintain. My apologies for the generic log.

I started caching in July 2008 and sadly, would never meet Dave Kruger. What I can say though, is that he was clearly revered in the caching community and it was not long til I heard of him and how much influence he had on the people who met him... One of my early cache finds was a Wingaap cache called "Dak's Emu Mob". I didn't know what it meant at the time, but I most certainly did shortly after the find...

Dak and I have something in common. I also stand by the mantra “If a team goes to the effort to hide a cache and write up the cache page the very least we can do is write a decent log after finding it.” I have received many positive comments about my logs, it's only fair when someone has added a cache to the game... [^]

I found this cache in the company of Kaisho53 as we worked along the trail for the morning. The container was safe and well and in good order.

I believe that this cache is truly in line the intent of this series. Someone who goes above and beyond to ensure Geocaching grows in the right manner and that the new players are mentored and supported. That's what Dak did as I understand. A pity I would never meet him.

Thanks for a cache that stands above the rest in this series for bringing Dak to the attention of everyone who visits. That's great work and I have given the cache a favourite point for that reason.

RIP Dave.

Cheers Team Crackers.
