Up the gravel roads we went. We came up for the earth cache and as a bonus realised there was a traditional one hear also. There was a muggle worker on a break so had to collect the earth cache info first in the hope he would move on so we could search. We completed the earth cache info and took in the view before looking for the traditional nearby in the hope the muggle would soon leave. An interesting and history plus a great view. TFTEC

Day 4 of our NZ-Roadtrip took us from Dunedin down to Invercargill.
Like in the 3 days before, we visited a lot of Caches beside the Road.
Unfortunately, the hours were running away. So we couldn't do all the Caches we wanted.
Thanks again to all the Owners, who brought us to so beautiful Places.

In the area for the other one nearby so gathered the information. Then completely forgot to log it for about 8 months! Brain must be getting as fossilised as the exhibits.

Today's trip from Invercargill to Dunedin was primarily to find Table Hill but there is plenty more to see. This earthcache took me off the main road but was well worth the visit. Recommemded.

Wow, you have to wonder how a Whale got this far inland but I guess that long ago, the landscape would have been a whole lot different to now...
An interesting EC and a great place to stop. Somewhere you would never find without being brought here for some reason either... What a shame...
The group of us listed the answers to the questions and snapped the obligatory pics at GZ. Ghostgums has volunteered to play EC master and forward the answers which will be inbound if you do not have them already...
Cheers G G G.
The cache was researched with fellow Queensland hunters OziBags, TheFourBees, Ghostgums and Mr Meccano.

This was a straightforward earthcache but an interesting spot nonetheless. Answers sent to CO.

Found as part of the Gangsters- The Rats, Farmer Frentzen and Big Matt and Shell- as part of our NZ Mega Event Tour 2012.
Another interesting EarthCache and a good display. The answers weren't too much trouble and we spent some time admiring the fossil and the information on hand. TFTC!

Our 6477th overall find.
Found on the "Gangsters" NZ Mega 2012 trip with steeba, The Rats and Farmer Frentzen. What a great example of a fossil, it's a shame that some people would never see this. We gathered the required information and an email has been sent.
Thanks G_G_G for the cache. Stats for our trip can be found here http://www.campersdownunder.com.au/geocaching/NZTrip/stats2.html

Found this cache as part of the Gangster's Aussie assault on the first NZ Mega with Big Matt, FarmerFrenzten and steeba.
This was an interesting diversion off the main highway. Not only was there an earthcache and a traditional, but there was an interesting quarry and some great views from up here.
Seeing the fossils in the rocks really makes you reflect on the history of our land.
Thanks

The weather forecast looked reasonably promising so we decided to head to Southland for a day of caching, we have visited Tohora Tahuhu on our previous trip, was keen to return to complete this fascinating and educational earthcache, many thanks for setting this one up.

A surprisingly informative site in the middle of nowhere, and with both history and a beautiful view to boot. Yet another example of why I love geocaching, for taking me places I'd certainly never have known about, and letting me discover cool stuff like this. TFTC, G_G_G! =^.^=
Decided to take a side trip from the main road for this one and glad I did. La Kedi was like a little kid as it had brought back memories of when we used to take her and her sisters to museums all over the place. I think La Kedi is sending through the photos ind info for you. A very interesting and informative stop. Thank you.
A very interesting detour off the main road south. Great display with some interesting information about the area.

3rd cache on a trip South. Will be out of order and wrong date (if only the stoopid app would allow date selection!!).
TFTEC - nice to bring the kids up here, very thin breeze tho so didn't linger long.

We visited here and loved the views from up the top at the display.
A fantastic information shelter that we didn't really expect to find.
The views over the lake were spectacular too.
It must be really cool to find some fossils as a quarry worker.
Thanks G_G_G for the great Earth_Cache.

Second time here as we found a traditional cache here many years ago. Great views, history, photos and information.
Enjoyed doing this cache and reading about the history of this area. Nice view from here toward Lake Waihola. T4TC
2:45:00 PM2 A second visit to this site. The first time we came looking for a traditional. This is a great viewpoint although there was a very cold and strong wind blowing today. Lake Waihola is still a very muddy colour.
The prescribed email has been sent and a photo will be attached to this log.

Some interesting information to take in here, along with a pretty good view. TFTC
Answers to questions emailed to cache owner. We visited here on a wet and windy day, which detracted from the experience somewhat. There was a traditional cache very close to here, which we found some years ago.TFTC
Nice views, have also logged the cache that was here previously (will forward answers shortly)
Quick drive by on our way back home from Milton.
I was on the local community board when we decided to put this display in - it took a lot of work and volunteer commitment to put this display in place.
Fascinating history and local area here.

What a cool EC. Love'em like that. I was with TreMichlan at the time, and he send the answers for both of us. Only just got back to a PC after some time on Stewart Island. Thanks for the EC dude.
I really enjoyed this site and could have happily lingered here for a lot longer than we did. The views over Lake Waihola were stunning and the interpretation at the site is first class.
I went to Otago University in the early 1990s and though I knew of the whale fossil sites to the North was completely unaware of the significance of this site. I like the way the history of lime mining and the explanation of fossils has been integrated.
