It's been a very wet and windy week here on the North Island but today was a small break.

It was still very windy and the sea was rough so one had to stay back and hold the boat which we landed on the southern shore (it was around high tide so there also wasn't much beach to land on). After the trip up the track we came up to the perfect picnic spot at GZ, but after lots of searching through the small flora we came up empty handed. More experienced eyes may have found it!

Still a beautiful small isle with the remains of an outpost that looks and feels straight out of a video game

Did I find it or did I not find it. That is the question.
After kayaking up from Opua we got quite a work out. Found a track that headed up to GZ, so we began our search. We located a lid, peice of very wet paper, a pencil, and a couple of little items. See photo. After that we had another quick search but could not locate anything further so decided it was time to kayak back.

Another adventure and challenge after finding a spot to launch the kayak. A bit of work to get here into the breeze and, after landing on a very pleasant beach, made my way to GZ. Took the 'bush bash' option and was pleasantly surprised to come across a track along the top and across the island - not what I would've expected.

After a short search the paperwork was duly completed making for another very satisfying find. Would loved to have stayed here longer but Taupo Bay was on the afternoon's agenda. Great cache, a favourite.

Have had a fantastic time here in the Bay of Islands after a couple of years of planning. Many thanks to RussellSchool for having greatly added to the pleasure by taking us to some interesting and scenic spots. Look forward to completing more of your caches at some unknown time in the future.

The weather was not the best, but ok to search this island geocache. By the dinghy I went four kilometers from our anchorage place to the island against wind, waves and current. The way back was easier.
The logbook was a little bit moist, but usable. An hour in the sun or a new logbook would be nice. Unfortunately I had no sun and no small replacement logbook.
TFTC!

stayed the night before anchored off the island hoping for better weather next day. Not so, (it is the depths of winter after all) Donned wet weather gear and made the trip - found pretty easily. Co-ords perfect. Thanks for the excuse to go up the inlet.

Had to take out The Mileage Bug before it headed home to the UK. Pearlharbour and Russell School met each other there.

Conditions were favourable for an afternoon / evening outing on the Waikare Inlet. Put in at Opua and raced up to the island. Landed on the beach and climbed up to the cache. Found in good order. TBs visited. Then back out to Anchor for some fishing. Lots of Snapper around and heaps of bites. A couple of decent sized ones stayed on the boat and we motored back at dusk. Thanks for the adventure!

Coordinates changed to:
S 35° 18.422 E 174° 10.312

Distance from original: 42.3 feet or 12.9 meters.

Have a better gps now. Would be interested if the coordinates are more accurate than the last ones, which were about 11 metres out according to my new gps..

Well we set out from beautiful opua for a lovely kayak down the inlet. Fishing lines in tow. So calm and peaceful with the tide just where we wanted it. So many oyster beds along the way, an old ship moored close by. Landed on this very pretty Island and had a good look for ages at GZ only to find the GPS Co d's were aleast "45 feet off" away in a totaly opp direction. So cache in hand after we searched all bases. But YAY a FTF as the log remains empty for a few weeks. So off back to the kayaks and set sail for the afternoon exploring the area by water.Very pretty and such a great place. Felt like a "sprat" along side some of those huge launches. Thanks so much ,as this was a most enjoyable way to spend sunday afternoon.
