TFTC from the Kayakviking! Took a hike up the hill to pick up an old cache I was after and then detoured around the obstruction on the way back. A bit of a cross country bash but not too bad.Faced the guardians and had CIH.Cheers KV
Not sure why it's taken me so long to find this cache. I think I attempted it ages ago while finding the nearby TE cache which was not successful. This time I locked up the bike nearby and hiked up some pleasant single trail to the south where a quick off track hike had me at GZ and a great view. Cache quickly located (nice work) and log signed. TFTC SamWalkers!
Wonderful cache!Found with buckoraider and Frenchykek on a gloomy Saturday. The cool temperatures kept us engaged on the hike across black mountain Thanks for such good crafter hide
Descended from the summit the way we came initially, before veering off down a goat track and making some what of a bee line towards this bad boy.Delightful discovery at ground zero! Very nicely put together in such a peaceful spot. Even copped a little bit of drizzle for our efforts, which only added to the tranquility in here. I wonder what they do in that secret bunker down belowthanks!
My family and I headed down from Brisbane to Canberra to spend the Easter break visiting relatives living here. The lure of a Mega event in town at the same time was just a coincidence, honestly .After an enjoyable stay, my wife and daughter had to fly back home last night for work and study commitments, while I still had a few more days in town to spend finding some more geocaches. With no family commitments to worry about, I was out the door before sun rise for a full day of cache finding.Although I was fit enough to hike around 13 of the highest peaks in Kosciuszko National Park only a couple of months ago, I have let that fitness fade substantially. I decided some uphill walking would be good for me so headed off to this cache after parking way back down the road close to the substation. Although the cache had not been found for some time I found it safe and well at GZ and added my name to the logbook. TFTC

Making the most of the opportunity to duck out for a few hours of caching fun. Seeking out the occasional challenge or two, or trying to mop up as many solves as I can to keep that long list under control. Seems to increase faster than it decreases

Looking at a handful of caching in Canberra. I've added this one to the list. Thanks for the cache!
I was on campus again and after class given the weather was so nice I thought I'd go wandering around Black Mountain, it had been a while.
I targeted this cache, as I had run through the CSIRO campus before, but never around this area. I was looking at my phone a bit too much on the way up and almost wandered right through the site. I thought it was amusing that the No Entry signs were on the inside side of the gates, how will people know not to come in when they're closed?
Wandering up to GZ the long way was quite pleasant, but I was not prepared for how much of a hill was in the way, good thing I took my water bottle! Really interesting location, I had a bit of a google at home to try and figure out what it was, because information is very scant!

After finding the nearby TE cache, I decided to bushbash south from the trail along a contour line. I have never seen a topo map that inaccurate as it certainly was not flat. TFTH
I can’t believe I am wearing a winter jacket today - ridiculous, fun little couple caches
A nice morning walk around the mountain had this cache on my radar. Took the required detour off the main track to get to GZ. Looked in a number of potential hiding spots before finally spotting it. Logged and replaced. TFTC.
Second find on a lockdown visit to Black Mtn with Just_Jess! Left a small unicorn pencil, TFTC
Walked up during my hour of peer today. Hard work but a beautiful day. Cute container.

Cache 7519 on 9 May 2021.
After doing mother-daughter stuff this morning (my role here was daughter) I decided I needed some me-time this afternoon, so headed off to get some caches on Black Mountain, long overdue to be found. I had a lovely 3km walk up most of the mountain/hill and then down again via 4 caches, all of which were found easily. Now back to do more mother-daughter stuff, this time in the role of mum.
Second one of the afternoon. A nicely themed cache container and standing up quite well to the bush and time. I saw 4/6 of the items mentioned in the listing, a very interesting walk
Thanks SamWalkers for the cache and the fun! Fav point comin at ya!

A brilliantly warm afternoon on Easter Sunday seemed like a great time for a walk to three caches on this side of the mountain. I parked the car at the normal spot at the substation off Frith Rd and headed up the hill to 'Paleomagnetic Place' first, then around the side of the fence, across a quite steep gully to GZ for this cache which was found without issue. Thanks, SamWalkers.
Whilst this was fun, it's not for the faint-hearted to get this cache at dusk. Even as an entomolo-phile I did a double take.
I used the old logbook, which is affected by black mould, but is nearly dry. Also drained some liquid out of the cache.
The view is great!
Had Flying Foxes fly over on my way back.

My last unfound cache on Black Mountain Excluding the Earthcache ontop however, as I tend to avoid those..... oh well maybe one day soon!
A great cache this was too! Some great views of the facility down below, enjoyed following the fence around and peering through. The cache itself was also good fun, nice to see something a bit extra added to make the experience even more enjoyable!
The cache is still going strong despite a damp notebook, however the last finder has put in a couple of dry pages. So it might need a logbook refresh soon
Thanks!

Great cache for the geokids. Cache swamped, replaced with a few new pages and left some new toys.

#7062. I flew over to Australia on Sunday and spent several days in Sydney. Now I have driven over to the ACT (the challenge capital down under). I love challenge caches and once I saw how many were set up in ACT I booked three nights of accommodation to ensure I had enough time to grab them all. I am then heading to the Wollongong Mega event on Saturday. This particular challenge series appealed immediately once I saw it was in a forest setting. I love hiking around in the open Australian bush. Plus geocaching away from muggles is so much more enjoyable.
After a run of challenge caches I decided to head up hill and do a few of the traditional caches in the park. There was some smoke in the air which is a bit disconcerting when hiking in a gum forest that has clearly been burnt a few times and quite recently it seems. But its nice and open underneath. Followed the fenceline around the compound and headed uphill. Quite a warm afternoon (at least it felt that way to me as NZ is not as warm as this in early July). Got dive-bombed by a few sulphur-crested cockatoos that were kicking up a racket. The cache was soon found with its guardians. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks SamWalkers for the cache. Cheers from GSEL (from New Zealand).

Interesting eeeek! Love this forest as it’s so different to home. Getting around on an MTB is so FUN! Here early in Canberra at a junior training and development camp at the AIS for xc skiers and then there’s the MEGA and the NFF to look forward to - a big week! Time for a few caches out this way exploring the Capital, finding a few MTB trails and of course caches that give the visitor a new perspective. TFTC!
Second find of the evening, made after a treacherous gully crossing due to a dodgy choice of approach. Nice work on the container and TFTC TNLN
It was a nice afternoon and I needed to clear the head and stretch the legs, so I decided to go for this cache. I parked the car and headed in the direction of GZ and found the way blocked (I ought to have read the description!). So I walked around and up and down and found myself at GZ. Quickly spotted the cache but there were many biting ants over it. I cleared these off and signed the log and replaced everything, except for the ants. Then I headed back to the car a different way and came across a couple who were sitting and relaxing where I think a nearby cache might be. TFTC.
Scrambling up the mountain, then down again, then up the gully, and there it was. Nice box. We left a trackable here. TFTC
JohnnyBoyACT and I went in search of geocaches in Black Mountain Reserve and Bruce Ridge today. The weather was fine although cool and we visited some interesting spots where, despite decades in Canberra, neither of us had ever ventured. In all, I added 19 caches to my tally. This cache was a straightforward find, being in an obvious spot on the coordinates. Thank you SamWalkers for installing and maintaining this cache.
A geocaching jaunt on Black Mountain organised by Kambahkid. Great to pick off a few difficulty 2 caches, which is just about all I can manage to find. An excellent time with a true gentleman cacher. Weather not too bad either. Haha. TFTC.
I figured today would be a perfect day to go to the Botanic Gardens and try out a new lens. Grab a couple of caches at the base of Black Mountain while I'm there.
A nice little of exercise coming from the SdL tribute cache. This one took longer to find than it should have due to dodgy phone GPS and good camouflage. Nice container - more... extravagant... than I expected. TFTC

A bit of a warm day but not so far to walk today, came from a close by cache so just kept following the fence along. Cache found ok and then continued around the fence to make a circuit right back to where I started from. Thanks for the cache SamWalkers
Nice walk up and down and up from the little bunker near by. Ground a bit slippery and wet from yesterday’s rain, but all good with the cache which is safe and dry. Nice view and peaceful at this time of morning. The big bugs had a few little bugs keeping them company. Tftc!!!
Tftc. Fairly quick find after the roller coaster walk to get here. Great view from here which made the smiley face even more appreciated.
After considering shipping containers as an alternative building means seeing what has been done here is really interesting. Wish I could go inside. Thanks for showing it to us. Cache in good condition and easily found.

I headed up the mountain to find the cache, Geocache as it is an oldie so while I was here I went in search of a few more, this was one that I also found.
Found this one while working on a multi cache.
**Thanks to SamWalkers for placing this cache.**

Bei unserem Australien Urlaub gefunden und geloggt. Danke fuers herfuehren an diesen schoenen Ort.
Ok ... I had an hour or 2 between knocking off work and a Science Week tour of the Herbarium ... figured that would give me plenty of time to wander up the hill and find these couple of caches (this one, then Lucanidae Cacheii) so I didn't rush away from work ... probably should have - these were a bit more "up hill and down dale" than I had realised - lol (but I did find both, and make it back in time for the Herbarium tour)
TFTC ... Loved the ... er ... decoration - lol
Lots of interresting views and stuff on the way here ... just read about all the things I was meant to find on the way - did t find most of them - oops - on the way up I was probably rushing to find the cache, and too busy looking at the terrain and vegetation, and that "secret facility" in the quarry - lol - and on the way back I was too busy rushing even more, so I would not be late for the Herbarium tour
I may have to come back here one day and have more of an explore ... and see if I can walk all the way around outside that fenced area ...

Took a little while to work out which track we should be following, we were pretty tired from finding other caches around the mountain, but a great cache once we found it!

In need of some exercise after a Sunday lunch and limited daylight left I decided Black Mountain was a handy place to cache and walk, especially since I had a couple of recently solved puzzles to find. A nice bit of cross country to get to this one. Easily found and almost a reaction. TFTC.

TaurusSix and I decided a walk on such a fine day was warrants. This was the first cache we went for. I had known this place was here but had never been here. Retrieved 2 TBs and left 1.
What to do when the weather is wet? Go caching with the wife and little one. Lovely walk along here.
thanks for the cache.

#828 After walking along the fence line, I arrived at GZ to be greeted by this cache. Quick find. Signed log and dropped 2 trackables. TFTC.
Canberra was my last black spot on the map and what better way to explore it than with geocaching. Strolling around the CBD I made my way from cache to cache discovering some secret spots that I would have never seen without geocaching. From the museum my journey led to the lake and up onto Black Mountain and the Botanic Garden. Who says there is nothing to do in Canberra, when you know the right spots you'll be surprise what there is all to see.
Thanks for this cache.

The fourteenth find of the day on an adventure on Black Mountain. On the map, it looked like easy going between the last cache and this one. It wasn't, it was very steep at points but there was a bit of a footpad. At one point, I came across a couple heading the other direction. I thought they were cachers at first, as it was weird to see people here, but in the end, they weren't. Once I arrived at GZ, I began my search. It took surprisingly long to find the cache! In the end, it was in the obvious spot. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC SamWalkers, those certainly were some big bugs!
Walk up Black Mountain this way nearly every week- who'd have thought such large critters were hiding in the undergrowth just around the corner!
An otherwise unpromising day weather-wise relented enough to allow some good caching. I had a few hours free so I headed to Black Mountain. I loved the cache container. A great collection of critters. Tftc SamWalkers.
Got dropped off at the top and decided to do all caches going north to Belconnen Way. I don't know the trails or fire tracks so bush bashed most of this route. Loved the features attached to the cache. Thanks SamWalkers
A day off from work today. Picked up while completing another multi. Like the container. A quick and easy find, thanks SamWalkers.
I was in the mood for a Black mountain geomission as it was such a lovely day. Soooo I decided to take myself off to the Botanic Gardens to wander round and do some research for the multis and the puzzles there. Then after that, went for a big hike up the mountain
Next stop on my hike up was this one. Jeez didn't this one get the blood pumping and the lungs huffing! I've been working on my fitness lately and this one certainly got me going. Felt good though!
Once near GZ the GPS was a little jumpy but the geosenses kicked in and I came up with the find.
Hahaha! love the "camo" on this one I checked out the place nearby as I was signing the log.
Thanks for the hide, SamWalkers-have to give this one a fave in the name of science!

Wow what fantastic views! I love this place so have awarded a favourite hoping that more people might come to see the spectacular views. The cache itself is also spectacular but I doubt I would describe it as beautiful! Congratulations SamWalkers on the cache. Mind blowing! TNLN SL TFTC SamWalkers
We decided we needed a walk to blow out the cobwebs as we haven't had a lot of time of late. But today everything was in our favour. Weather was lovely no clouds in sight and not too many animals to take care of tonight.
After doing another 2 close by we saw that this one wasn't too far off, so off we continued on our mini trek. Quick find at GZ and oh what a lovely cache... logging duties performed and then off to try and find the car for the journey home.

A quick grab after work today. I was originally aiming for another nearby cache, but I parked on blackmountain road and this one was closer. Because of the approach, I missed the parking waypoint and think I came in the long way.
The surprise caught me a little off-guard initially, but I got there in the end. Interesting view over the compound and further out over North Canberra.

Sadly I missed the railway line, ore cars, chimney and metal whatsit on the walk to this one but I did manage to tick off the bunker and great view! Spectacular, although hard to appreciate while huffing and puffing and trying either to heave myself up or stop myself tumbling down [B)]. Perfect GZ with a nice little seat right next door and had a good chuckle at the cache. Nice work and I'm sure it was very popular for science week. Very enjoyable, thanks SamWalkers
Yes, there are big .. lucky that I was with Maris4. I would never touch somethink like this .

Just when I had made my way around the quarry from a nearby cache towarrds this one, it started to rain. I didn't give , but got soaking wet for my effort.
Found 10:07 pm with LuckyL10n. We had a go at this the other day from another direction and things got rather rough and scratchy and unpleasant. So this time we were sort of nearby hitting up another cache that had appeared, LuckyL10n mentioned this one was in radar range and I then convinced LuckyL10n that we should do this one since we were in the area and we were at least coming from a different direction. So off we went with a little but of cross country we finally arrived at GZ. The way back out though saw us huffing and puffing with the result being a rather sweaty pair of cachers arriving back at the car. Thanks for the cache. In one way I'm glad I did this when it was cool rather than when suns out and hot or warm.
#2514 - 22:00; Out and about again with MrDamage on our nightly daily hunt. We had tracked down the newly published puzzle which had brought us back to the mountain and looking up towards the tower, we decided to pick up another couple of the nearby caches we were yet to log and maybe, just maybe find an easier gentler track back to the top. Fat chance as it turned out! We followed the trail we had taken to our first conquest as it headed in the right direction towards our second, before we headed bush and down through the gully. We clambered back up the other side where we soon made find number two. After that we followed a trail around a boundary fence and through another creek towards GZ for this cache. Checked out one spot before MrD came up with the goods nearby. We were happy to have this one off the 'to do' list after our previous ill fated adventure to find it when we took the wrong trail in the dark and a good deal more work than should have been required for the find. An interesting container was a highlight for us, before we extracted and signed the log. That done, we headed off on the final leg of our mountain (goat) adventure, back up the hill to the geomobile. The 20 or so minutes it took us seemed like hours punctuated as it was by regular stops along the most direct route straight up. TFTC SamWalkers
I've been running and riding all I've this mountain for 17 years and didn't know this was here! Took trackable. Note the remaining trackable is not in the cache TFTC
