Continuing on with our tiki tour, popping down to the Gisborne district to grab a couple of caches there. Grabbed a few on the way too.
Here we parked up and a quick find, we then read about the history here

Another pit stop on our way home with a change of drivers.Quick easy find, thankyou nzkeko.
We are on vacation in New Zealand and of course we seek some caches.
Thanks for this one!
Greetings from the Dutch.

I think the bad weather is following us around, heading through the gorge today and it was nasty....a quick break in the weather here and an even quicker find meant we could claim at least one cache along the way. Thanks
On my annual holiday in this area. Last year I spent a long time looking for this one, but this time bingo !, and it was in my hand. I am absolutely positive I checked this obvious location last time. TFTC
Fortunately a quick easy find in the pouring rain. It seems sensible that the memorial has been moved to a safer location, and a lot more added. TFTC
Today we made a trip from Gisborne via Opitiki to Whakatane, again at least at the end on the route of the Pacific Coast Highway, thereby visiting many new sightseeing locations and looking for caches, too. On this trip we searched, found and logged a lot of caches. The weather was very good all day long, a bit colder in the morning but it got warmer in the afternoon. Funny clouds were our compagnions especially in the afternoon.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had other things to do than observing harmless geocachers.
Thanks to nzkeko for showing us this location and for the fun we had at Memorial Stone on SH2 (Opotiki). The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Quick stop for me and my cousins to clean our momument, and forgot after all these years that there was a geocache here. Easy find! We were in fits of laughter once we found it. Now its got us back into the hunting game. Hope everyone else who finds this beauty enjoys the history lesson of our land.
One week off during school holiday time, combined with some cheap flights made a great adventure in the HB and Gisborne area, popping into BoP a couple of times also. I had great fun and I am grateful to all CO's who placed the caches for others' entertainment!!
Quick find, TFTC!

We stopped off for a couple of caches on our way to Gisbone for a long weekend. We had a nice quick find at the Memorial Stone, thanks.
Quick find, in such a place. Reading the memorial plaque certainly was a moving occasion.

A quick cache and dash whilst passing. Interesting spot. Thank-you nzkeko for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Out caching with Will of the Wisp on our “Round the World in 80 Days” trip to celebrate retirement. Signing logs with our names or initials depending on space. Greetings from England, TFTC.
On our way to Gisborne and this one looked pretty easy from the description... plus an interesting piece of history. Busy road but lots of parking... found the cache quickly and then stayed to look at the memorial. Thanks for the cache... and the history lesson!
Last day of a 3 day roadtrip with jgirl1880. Spotted cache from road as we turned in to the parking area. Signed quickly and back on our way again. Almost home!
Our journey around NZ continues. This was found quickly.

Cache easily found by DD on our way back to Whakatane having spent most of the day driving into Gisborne county to earn a or 2 to qualify for a challenge cache. Interesting Maori memorial of this slaughter of years ago. Many thanks
Travelling around the world with Dartmoor Deliverer celebrating her taking early retirement!
NB Dont forget our Devon UK Mega 2017 GC6JZNY this August in the beautiful East Devon area of our county. UK Megas are over one week full of events and geocaching - a wonderful way to enjoy our county!

Out with Red Roaming as we continue to explore New Zealand on our holidays here. loving this spectacular country. Logs signed with our full names or DD & RR to save space. The weather to day is lovely and sunny but a bit of a breeze. on our way back to Whakatane now. cache quickly found with no problems. TFTC
On way home from Gisborne thought we would have another attempt at this one using the GPS this time not a phone. Couldn't find it 4 days ago and bingo had it.
Stopped here on our holiday and managed to find after a bit of a search. An interesting read. Thanks
A roadside stop on me drive from Gisborne to Opotiki today.
And what I thought was a rather odd spot !!
As I sat in the geomobile looking at the sculptures and general layout of what was obviously a memorial,
I couldn't help but notice the carved figures [:o]
Having not read the cache notes or knowing anything about this spot,
it was pretty easy to conclude that this was not a happy spot [:o]
And obviously a site of a battle or worse
A read of the memorial stone and information board revealed the history of this place.
Interesting but sad.
The parallels between what happened in NZ and Australia when the Europeans arrived are strikingly similar !! [:o]
With the history absorbed,
I wandered off to find the cache.
Easy find
TFTC !!
And history !!
Ignore the restricted area signs on the fence !! [:o]
They are nothing to do with visiting GZ or driving down the road !!
Just farmers telling you not to infect their crops by walking in the fields !!

Thank YOU for causing us to stop and understand the story of the land we 're driving through.
Amazing story.

Quick stop on the way to Gilmore. Thanks for showing us this memorial which we would otherwise have driven by.
Sheltered under the shelter reading the history - thank you for bringing us here. Didn't have any cache details with us, so after an aimless hunt, reviewed the gps signal and quickly found it after this. TFTC
Parked as directed and that provided some shelter while snatching cache under guise of reading the history. Tftc. Hopefully land issue is slowly being resolved. Lots of Maori trust farms in the area now.
Cache is in good condition. Thanks for the extra information about this place and memorial!
Greetings from a Belgian backpacker as well.

We visited this cache during our trip through out New Zealand!
With our rental car, we explored the north island for 12 days.
NZ is a beautiful country and we really enjoyed our time here.
We hope to return one day and explore a little bit more!
Day 5 - Gisborne to Rotorua
The day started in Gisborne, where we explored a little bit of the city and looked for some caches. After that we visited many places along the route to Rotorua, mainly along road trough the Waioeka gorge and in the coast.
Thanks for the cache.

Greetings from West Sacramento, California! Papa EGTH and I are spending our honeymoon in this beautiful country for 19 days. Today was Day 4 of our trip and our route was from Rotorua to Napier via Whakatane and Gisborne. We found 18 caches and had 2 DNFs.
I had gone straight to the memorial to take photos and to read the information while Papa EGTH went after the cache. When I was done, I went over to him to help with the search and located it in a spot he overlooked. Thanks for bringing us to this location!

HockeyHiker19 and I were on day 4 of our geocaching honeymoon in New Zealand. I'm not sure how I missed it the first couple of times I looked and fortunately HockeyHiker19 doesn't always trust my eye and was able to make the find in a spot I had looked at previously.
We found this one on our way to Gisborne a week ago, but we were being careful with our find numbers as we wanted to find It Takes Two in Gisborne as our 2,222nd cache. All done and we've had days of caching in the rain since then. We signed this on the way back again, number 2,273 for us.
I can't believe the memorial stone - three mistakes I can see!

We enjoy these informative caches of significant/historical events that are not general knowledge. TFTC
Nice easy find - showing a muggle friend how it was done. They knew about the historic event that this represented too.

Out and about today with 11hpg11, rosmar and Cats&Dragons to find some lonely geochaches (distance & last found) in the area. I was very keen to join when I caught word of the plans to give my new car an off-roading practice run. The end result was a very dirty car and a happy owner. This one was our first find in the early morning hours.
Had an awesome time out with the crew . TFTC

Another mission, a new area this time. The plan was to do some off-roading and 4x4 caches, plus a few others in the area. Cats&dragons and I set off on Friday night and had an amazing light show of sheet lightning and heavy rain. Our spirits were not dampened though and we made the long slog to Opotiki. We worked out our plan of attack for the next morning and found a few great looking caches to check out. We were meeting up with Rosmar and Alpenmilch80 in the morning before heading to some wild country.
This one wasn't on the must do list, but it would have been rude to drive past so picked it up on the way.
