Lots of fallen trees around here now so a bit hard to tell which tree was once an arch. Had a cursory look at a few likely candidates but with over a year since last find decided not to spend much time on it
Took about 5 min for the GPS to settle down and eventually found only a few metres from the track and a prominent Mahoe rather than 25m away. Hint object quite rotten but obvious when you see it.
The Friday before Xmas, and with my work 'do' finishing just after 4pm the choice was either join the queue of traffic trying to get out of Wellington or hang around for a few hours and go caching?
Caching won that debate hands down, so I took the opportunity to re-visit some previously DNF'd caches and a couple of others such as this one.
As I was in the company of an ex finder, this was a quick find for me here today. The fallen may end up falling further as it is deteriorating as in natural, but for the moment it is still with us. Signed the log and then replaced back as found.
Thanks for setting up this cache.

This took a little while to hunt down. A previous log helped, and also as an ectra, the hide is quite close to the track. Cheers.
Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. A quiet day around the Hutt today, preparing for the travel over the ditch tomorrow. The weather was good for caching and biking, a little on the hot side, otherwise fine.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

LoL, nearly gave up on this one but decided to retrace steps while taking a much closer look at the track map and terrain topology and keeping previous find in mind. Phew! Log is getting a bit frail might be worth a maintenance check possibly, but not too damp considering location I guess, tftc, enjoyed the challenge, but glad to have another find as a newbie
Found. Very exposed to water stream and people. Covered with a stone. Log needs some love.
Today 's local exercise is to find three caches, part of my aim to get my calendar up to 10 per day. So I got to the start of the track and... and... dammit - forgot my pen. So back on the bike to the local dairy. They don't have pens. But the superette on the yonder corner will. So I go there, buy a pen and an ice ream (it's ice cream weather! By the end of this trip I was sweating - I should have worn shorts). Back on task.
Arrived at GZ and my GPS said that tree there is the place, but I found no cache there. After searching a few other places and getting nowhere I read the description. Ah. the cache was a quick find after that.
Nice bit of bush. Never been here before. Huge number of what looks like karaka seedlings here.

I thought I had done this one previously but my map wasn't showing a smiley so a revisit was in order. I remembered searching high and low for this but wasn't sure I'd actually found the prize. Took me awhile at GZ but yes the hint is still valid and the recent log helped too. A precarious niche but it's still holding. Found my log from 12/09/20 but re-signed again today. Logbook only just holding together. Thanks
A number of fallen here but one was a bit more significant than the rest. Hint confused me a bit as this one’s below track. Found by good fortune rather than anything else this time! Log a bit damp and was falling apart in my hand. Many thanks though - I’ve never explored this area and carried on the track.
I seem to have a whole bunch of unfound caches in Waiwhetu hills so on a glorious Saturday I spent some time exploring a few tracks around here. This was very close to my selected entrance point so obviously I stopped here first. The cache was a quick find in the logical place. Of course just as I had picked up the cache I heard approaching muggles but I was back on the track when they arrived. A little on the small side for a bush cache but no problems finding it. TFTC.
First find of the day on our short walk. Found relatively quickly. Awesome to discover Hayward's track. TFTC
I was not very observant approaching the hiding spot but soon discovered I needed to be around the other side! Log is pretty damp but still writeable TFTC
Out with woolwood9 hunting some caches today.
Nice quick walk to site and we soon made the find at GZ.

Reasonably quick find at GZ , no one around in the early evening.

#5416. Almost back to civilisation. I know that sounds weird when you are only 50m upslope from houses. But after a four hour trek via the Te Whiti Riser track and along the summit ridge stopping to pick up ten geocaches on the way, I made the rather bad call to drop down the non-track from the Two Towers cache through a jungle of gorse, blue pipe lines in a forest and a silly diversion to one of life's evils (The Hazards of Geocaching - Flora) before continuing the descent to this cache. Mostly just a gully scramble with an occasional fading tin lid marker to remind you that other nutters have passed this way. Then at last a proper track and eventually the fallen archway. The cache was not spotted immediately but after thinking about possibilities I noticed something my steamed up glasses had disguised when I first arrived and soon had the cache in hand. Signed and replaced as found then on to Mawson Road and back to Te Whiti Park and the car. Thanks drawp for the cache. It was a useful waypoint for me on the descent.
I got to ground zero and found the well hidden cache. Went to sign the log and had no pen. Photo is attached. At gz the ground is quite soft under foot. I found my pen on the way out. Tftc
Found while out on walking the green track. Quick and easy as good hint. Cache in good order. TNLNSL,and TFTC.
Restorative bush walk sheltered from most of drizzle by canopy. Amused at ropes alongside steeper sections of track. Cobwebs next to container kept vibrating so kept vigilance with phone flashlight! Nicely done, thanks drawp.
Could not find a couple of nearby multis so headed here on my bike for a simple one to fill a dot day. Great cover to a quick find.

#2434 Needed to get outdoors for a bit this afternoon and since it was so lovely, decided to collect a few more in the hills. Was aiming for just the 3 easiest unfound caches but got distracted....
Popped down here after finding The Hazards Of Caching because on my way up the house owner was working in the garden nearby (in hindsight I don't think he'd have seen me). Easy find here before heading back for 'just one more!'. Was aiming for Downhill From The Junction but again, got distracted haha.

I located this one a week or so ago when I was on my way to one of the caches further up the hill.
I randomly decided to go out at about 9pm in the rain to write my name in the log book.
Thank you

Easy Easter find after a disappointing hour looking for Homestead View without any luck.
We had been up this way a few weeks ago but somehow missed that there was a cache here. Checked out another hint object before finding the correct one. TFTC
ok so I decided I needed to head up and collect the new cache "the two towers" and since I had not come up this way before it was a good time to try and find a new trail after all that is actually why I cache at all is to find new trails to trek up to. this was the first one on my list for today and thankfully was a nice easy walk up and a nice easy find. what a gorgeous track to head up even with a rope hand rail I was very surprised. tftc tnlnstl

First cache of the walk, easy find once I read the description for a clue TFTC
Quick and easy find. Tried to find a couple of others in the area, but the paths took us in the wrong direction. TFTC
With DjaliDjinn whose eagle eyes spotted this likely spot for a cache even though our GPS had led us astray. It all made sense once we spotted the title namesake.
The GPS was 11m out for this one, so we missed it on the way up the hill. On the way back, though, after almost 4 hours of solid slog through mostly inhospitable terrain, I spotted something promising - not where we'd been searching initially but close enough to warrant further inspection. We had a muggle friend with us, and he'd definitely had enough exercise for the day, so we saw him to his vehicle, then trekked back up the driveway for a quick find! Such a relief I would've been so disappointed to have back-tracked for nothing. TFTC

Picked this one up while on my way to do the Homestead Loop. I was unsuccessful in that regard so I was glad to grab this one beforehand. A simple enough find. TFTC
took much longer than it should have to find! got muggled at the end, time for a cold fermented beverage tftc
First find of the day on our way up to do the Homestead loop. A reasonably easy find in a fairly obvious fallen tree. It is encouraging to find one so close to the start of a steep (for me) climb. TFTC!
Found with Trina
Nice walkway. Had lived in Lower Hutt for my 1st 30 years of my life and never knew of this walk.

Totally bypassed this on my way uphill to do a circuit in this piece of bush. Easy find in obvious location on the way back to the car in Mawson St.
Thought this a FTF, but then realised it is a replacement log.
Last one for the morning before heading home.

A bit of a romp up this way, killing off the dot day. We've passed by this way before, got muggled and decided to leave it for just such an occasion as today. Love this part of the valley.
On to it, with a straightforward find; cache in order, log signed, re-hidden safely, just as found.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Wandered around looking for the archway, wasnt in that tree, was that an archway? So read the logs and discovered the archway had fallen over, easy find when discovering that. MAybe this needs to be noted on the cache page. TFTC
With the picture provided below by lyndon.black in my mind I set off confidently. I had got well up the hill on the steps (excellently maintained by the locals) when I realised I must be past the GZ. The GPS agreed (it also had me continuing up the valley at a rapid pace though I was standing still ). Returning to near the last house I made the sad discovery that the archway is no more, you might get under it if you are good at the downhill limbo. The good news is that the cache is in the obvious place and the arch is still recognisable enough the make up for the lack of GPS cover. Look down rather than up.
Easy find, tried to walk up further to find more caches on hill however paths are a no go as there are a lot of trees down blocking paths and paths are not clearly visible due to the storm.Tftc.
Quickly spotted the eponymous "archway" and only a short time until cache was in-hand for signing.
TFTC!

Took a little longer since the GPS was off but hint is pretty clear. TFTC. Sherlock Hood.
I found the cache on the floor under the arch so i put it where i think it may have been hidden TFTC
A quick find, but track quite wet and slippery in here today. Decided to proceed on to several of the others nearby as its a nice area I wouldn't otherwise have come to visit. TFTC
Note to oneself - when going caching it helps to bring the GPS along as well don't leave it on the window sill at home. Unfortunately didn't realise this small issue until just before arriving. Decided anyway to pop up the track to see if the gz was an obvious one, based upon the cache name. Yep, found the spot and located the cache in the first place checked. Quickly filled in the log while protecting it from the rain and then a quick but careful trip back to the car. TFTC
Nice pleasant wellington day, better go for a lunch time walk.
Yes, it definitely an arch. I guess the cache will be hidden somewhere around ... here.
Nice and easy find.

The sound of muggles nearing led me to abandon my first search (I was looking in the wrong place anyway!). I went off to Weka's Hideaway and returned to start over. A quick find then resulted.
I have always enjoyed my visits to this reserve. TFTC.

#811. My GPSr was flakey and didn't give me a decent reading today. After backtracking a little bit, it all made sense... SL, TFTC.
Clever hide amongst all those mushrooms there. This was to be the first of 3 but after carrying a baby on my back, false starts down 4 tracks the constant climb, the other two were deemed too far out of the way. Might try and get those from the Wainui side.
Used the Suggested access from Mawson St and proceeded up the trail from there, walked straight past it to begin with but on the return i saw what was needed straight away ,signed log,I see im not the only one up here today going by the logs TFTC
Even though it was getting quite dark under the canopy and the gps was still directing me further up the track, the gz was instantly recognisable and the cache name made perfect sense. Thanks for showing me this track. I will return another day to explore it more and to look for the other caches in the area. TFTC
Nice easy find, once we got there. We took the long way around. TFTC!
Quick find with a bit of a pointer from Huhugrub. The GPS was still pointing about 20m away so we would have waled right past it. The GPS settled a bit whiel we logged it.
Am now becoming quite familiar with this area! Found, without the use of the GPS, while out and about doing a few morning messages. TFTC
#2331. We had no idea what to look for beforehand, but it turned out to be a most interesting find. TNLNSL. TFTC.
A quick find early this morning, the comments with regards 'the bank' had me some what perplexed. SL TFTC
#2509. With the nights getting lighter, it's getting a bit easier to look for caches after work on dot days. GOod to have some new nearby caches to find. A nice hide. TFTC.
Found as the light was fading tonight. Quick find as was in the obvious place. Next seekers need to watch out for the bank near GZ, it is feeling as though it may give way.
Used my new Oregon for the first time , coped very well in the gloom and tree cover.

Found whilst out doing the Whites Line East to Mawson Street track. Quick find, TFTC
Went for a walk this afternoon to hunt down the new caches in this area. Found this one after about 10 - 15 minutes' search, I had an absolutely rotten satellite configuration with two close to the zenith and the rest relatively low down towards the horizon in a variety of directions which meant that getting a reasonable fix in here was difficult. In fact I lost lock completely at one stage and had to walk to a clearer place to regain it. I don't think I would recommend this spot to anyone with an older low-sensitivity GPS. Finally found the cache after reading the description more thoroughly - that always helps... The position error I got for the cache was about 14 metres but I would hesitate to try and provide a better coordinate set with the sort of accuracy I was getting here. Signed log, TFTC!
Whoopee!!!!! a joint FTF (22:35) with -gonefishing-. Saw this cache when it got published and was a bit busy initially and thought to myself that it would be great to go for a small walk before going to bed. Managed to drag -gonefishing out with me so that he could have some exercise as well, arriving at a carpark near this cache after checking it out on google earth we managed to find the walkway entrance in the dark. Was very surprised how quickly we were at GZ and it was so quick that -gonefishing GZ didn't even have time to grab all the satellites, a quick search in the obvious spot so revealed the ache which we were quite surprise still hadnt being found even though it had being over an hours after publication. Returned the cache back to it nice hiding spot before heading on our way to the next one in this area. TFTC TNSL (3368) FTF CRAZE Yeetrees and Tane Ruru "The Geocaching Morepork" also came out to visit this one as well, we also heard one of Tane relatives very close by in the trees out hunting for dinner.
Joint FTF with yeetrees . Saw these new caches pop up, but couldn't head out until an hour later. Picked up yeetrees and we were off. A nice easy walk up to this one, arriving at GZ before we realised, but as you say, it's all in the name. I hadn't explored the Mawson St entrance before, so a good excuse to have a look.
