Nice off track adventure, well described . Cache was exactly where advertised. All in order nice and dry. Thanks for the cache!
Slipping and sliding and wishing Id brought someone along with me here! Not my day with this one!
Like previous finders we started the search too early before spotting the rather tired marker ribbon in a tree further up. Nice and dry log.
Nice to return to the Tyndall Stream track, be prepared for a small scramble if this is a new track for you! Great to have another purpose when rambling around familiar and not so familiar tracks and places, tftc
Today 's local exercise is to find three caches, part of my aim to get my calendar up to 10 per day. The internet outage today meant I could not do any work, so I might as well head outside. A beautiful summer's day! I got to the start of the track and... and... dammit - forgot my pen. The superette back down at the iontersection sorted that out, and soon I was on the track. As the cache description says, I reacked the old tank I looked at the GPS - 155m up the stream.- There's a faint track that might lead to some bush bashing. Okey dokey. Turns out I could not read my GPS - it was still pointing to another cache, and by the time I realised that I was just 5m from this cache. Well, that was lucky! A nice quick find at the obvious place and I dropped in a path tag for the next fella.
Really enjoying this bit of bush!

Came this way from The Fallen Archway/Mawson St. Nice little loop after work. Headed up the slope then I started the search too early. Once I persevered a bit further the cache was found easy peasy. All ok inside.
The track took me closer to this cache than I was expecting so it was only a short diversion to come an find this. A bit of care needed on the approach but got there and back with no dramas. Despite the GPS jumping all over the place, cache sense took me straight to the cache which was hidden in a nice logical place. All in good shape here. TFTC.
We organised for 12 of us from the local tramping club to have a short explore of some of the Hayward Reserve tracks and have a look for some of the geocaches there. Not wishing to test their patience we only found the Fallen Archway and Laytons Gully and had given away Wekas Hideway after a wee scrabble in Tyndall Stream. Frustrated with our navigation and wanting to get a better feel for the tracks in the area we returned with a good friend who we knew enjoyed “off track travel”. Great to find it. TFTC
Trying find the other cage near by stumbled upon this on. Cool to explore!

We made this more difficult for ourselves than it need have been. We discovered after we got to GZ that there was no need to leave the Hayward’s track until much later on. That said, it was fun along the overgrown stream track with a cheeky, friendly fantail coming along with us for most of the way. As we approached GZ we came across a very difficult patch where a slip had come down and footing was very dicey with loose rocks. So much so that we completely overshot the cache site while we were concentrating on not taking a tumble into the stream. Once past that, we floundered around trying to pinpoint GZ and reluctant to tackle the scree again. We were about to give up, when two former geocachers came along. What luck! They had previously found the cache so were able to point us in the general direction. So up the dodgy hill again, definitely easier going up than coming down and the cache was soon in hand. TFTC and the challenge!
All good in here More than a year since the last visitor Done during my trip back from Hazards of Caching - Flora which was a bit of a mission This one a doddle by comparison TFTC
Fun short scramble! Ascended track per directions, checked phone GPS which was still pointing 20 m on wrong side of ditch, looked around to formulate plan, and saw was right on top of hint! Cheers drawp.
This is the second time I've had a look for this cache. Last time I was on my way down from above and approached from the NW by bush bashing off the side of a minor track. That time it was late in the evening and I was in a hurry before the daylight finally faded away. I gave up without finding it because I didn't have a torch with me.
This time I came up from Whites Line East, Haywards track and a short climb up from the track intersection below. It was early afternoon and just starting to spit with rain after a very pleasant morning. I should have been at home mowing the lawn but I was out looking for this cache instead. I could hear the cricket match being played down on Te Whiti Park. Whoever was bowling seemed to appeal for a dismissal after every delivery. HOW WAS THAT?!?!?
The were lots of birds about today. One particular fantail seemed very interested in what I was doing. It was very cheeky and landed only a few inches away from where I scooped some loose leaves out to have a look around.
As noted in the description, my GPS had trouble settling down in the area around GZ. My device had the cache about 15m away from where the coordinates were pointing. It took a long methodical search to find it, but I got there in the end. The cache is in good condition. Nice and dry inside.
For the benefit of those that follow, it is much easier to approach from below via the well marked Haywards track. Coming down from above was treacherously slippery with no clear track to follow.
Thank you

#2431 Needed to get outdoors for a bit this afternoon and since it was so lovely, decided to collect a few more in the hills. Was aiming for just the 3 easiest unfound caches but got distracted....
This was cache #1 for me today and a quick and easy find to start me off. I had walked past the junction to this cache a few days earlier but was running out of time before having to be somewhere else so left it for another day. Pretty little spot. TFTC!

I was lured up here for the first time by Kjwx and her promise of "gold mine". I've never been up into these hills before. After a fairly steep climb on a very hot day, we were somewhat alarmed by the state of the 'track' leading up to the cache. Some careful climbing and a small amount of scrambling led us to the right spot. We were hoping to see the gold mine close by but after some googling discovered we were close but not quite on the right track. Amazingly just as we were trying to identify the correct track, another party of gold mine hunters passed us and we set out to cooperate to find it. Success! It was very wet and muddy, but sufficiently tricky to find that we felt we'd achieved something! TFTC
found while I was out walking the tracks above lower hutt I thought I had found another one but now I read the description I realise I found this one instead. so I have deleted the other log and am logging this one instead. bugger now I will have to come back up here and find the one I am missing. oh well maybe next weekend!! tftc
walked past this track on the way to another cache and thought wow up there would be an awesome place to hide a cache! after dnf'ing the one I originally set out for I scanned the map for caches close by, and yes I had walked right past this one without even realising! tftc!
No joy for this one today. I had three different maps and the are all slightly different, but we eventually got here. Found the big metal thing, and ventured 30m up the hill from there. It was very steep, so i am pretty sure i was in the right place. Couldn't find anything, so will come back another day - possibly from the top. Still a great walk, even without locating the cache. Thanks
After a scramble and several false starts we managed to home in on the cache after looking at the clue again. GPSr was all over the place but got there in the end. tftc
Passed the start path to this on my circuit to Homestead views. Glad I had my walking pole. Felt more like a goat than an a fox today. Easy find. All safe and dry.
Found with Froog.

Nice? Downhill stroll with Aquakiwi, observed the strange metal box and soon located cache. TFTC
Nice after work walk.
Managed to negotiate the many varied paths to get to here.

Just as the previous finder comments, it is a pleasure to be walking about in Hayward's Reserve. The terrain on this one was made somewhat challenging by recent rain and things were wet and slippery. Get up to, and back down from the cache hide was one of the more challenging things accomplished during the day's outting in this area.
Cache in order; log duly signed, then safely re-hidden.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too

A sunny lunchtime walk to GZ, and cache was quickly in-hand. The more I walk these tracks in the Hayward reserve the more I like them!

Back to finish off the last 4 in this reserve that I ran out of time for yesterday. A quick find thanks to the description, and I'm slowly learning all these track names.
I walk this way a lot. i found this a while back but haven't uploaded field notes for a while... TFTC
Nice to get a little off track, although a bit slippery in here today - found OK with the help of good cache directions.
We found a track above where we deviated downhill to find Homestead View which seemed to be heading in the right direction. As promised, it was a lesser track and was a bit hairy in places with a steep drop below. We got within 20m of the cache, but we couldn't see the promised tank, though I thought I could see something about 30m below us. Using the hint, StreetWalker found the cache.
It turned out that we had approached from above.
I didn't like the look of the track going downhill, so we ended up backtracking and after a while, passed the tank en route to The Junction. Phew, pleased we took the alternative route, that looked pretty steep.

#3815. As Troodles said, we took a rather scenic route to GZ. Still, it proved to be a good one, and the cache was not too hard to find despite the poor reception. TFTC.
Can't log trackable for some reason. Liked the look of taking this coin back to the USA. I'll be touching down in Jacksonville NC. Perhaps take it to grand canyon and las Vegas as I pass through.
Were interested in the rope handrail coming up the hill. Glad we had the little map - very useful. Great area. TFTC
I approached this cache from the Mawson Street entrance. Having been in this location before, I thought the likelihood of ending up on the wrong track was quite high and I was not disappointed. I had allowed plenty of time and enjoyed the bonus exercise. Having read some recent logs, I was ultra cautious on the last wee approach. The cache was found without difficulty and I was soon on my way to the next one.
An enjoyable walk, the last 20m of which were qiute slippery due to the thick layer of leaf litter on the ground. A quick find thanks to the hint. TFTC
#813. This is one of those yo-yo caches, the tracks take you to within 100m of the cache and the meander away for a few hundred metres before coming back towards the cache. A nice walk overall, I probably would not have found it without the hint. SL, TFTC. -tb.
Not so much a walk up that last bit as a careful climb. It was wet and slippery under foot but a great little track and a nice hide
Thanks

Came in from Mawson St and found this one after doing the archway cache ,been up and down a lot of trails in the area over the years but cant say i've ever noticed this one before ,found cache and signed log after a bit of a search ,thanks for show me a trail i didn't know about
A nice find on another walk with DownunderWanderer. Great location, not likely to be found by anyone other than cachers. Left a GC. TFTC!
#2384. Joined up with simpsonsrgr8 to have a wander round the Hayward Scenic Reserve today. As we located the old tank in the Tyndall Stream, we walked up the very steep slope, and simpsonsrgr8 made the quick find.

Scrambled up the hill with huhugrub who fortunately had been organised enough to bring a map. Might have taken a bit longer to find the right path otherwise.
Went for a late afternoon walk to find this one. Had a copy of the map off the nearby J'n'K cache page which helped alot. Thought it was going to take a while to locate when I suddenly realised I was standing right next to it. There sure are a maze of tracks here. TNLN SL TFTC
With grenades being hurled, tommy and ack ack guns burning up the rounds, enemy soldiers and planes falling in previously unheard of numbers, calls of "watch your back" and "to the left" it was amazing that the native birds could still be heard, and a cache unearthed into the bargain. I'd guess you would say it was mission complete, except that the 6 young troopers we were trying to run some energy off, still carried on when we got home. Need some steeper hills next time! TFTC
Took a slight detour on way to pick up daughter and complete another dot day. Found fortuitously while stopping to have a breather - looked down and thought something looked a little suspicious! TFTC
The second of three on an afternoon's walk in the reserve. It's a maze of tracks in here but fortunately getting to this one wasn't too difficult. Looked in the most likely place first and missed it, then followed the GPSr which with the poor satellite configuration this afternoon and the shielded location was pointing me back and across the stream. When nothing found, came back to the first spot and found it quickly. Signed log, TFTC.
Whoopee!!!!! a joint FTF (23:30) with -gonefishing-. This was the second cache that we found tonight after deciding to go out for a quiet walk to let my dinner settle before going to bed. Was really glad that I purchased a new torch about a week ago as I was thinking to myself that I needed a good torch, and it really made a big difference as it was so bright that we were able to find our way around without any issue, we were going for the junction cache but took the wrong turn and found out that we were getting closer to the Weka's hideaway so decided to grab this one first before walking back to get the other cache. Really loved the views tonight as the weather was behaving itself and we had great views of Wellington and its night lights, thanks for bringing us to this lovely walkway that I was wondering when a cache was going to appear. A very interesting spot for the final GZ which took a few minutes to find as the GPS was bouncing all over the place, getting to the cache wasnt an issue but getting out in the dark you need to be very sure footed, was glad to find that we managed to grab another FTF, TFTC TNSL (3369) FTF CRAZE Yeetrees and Tane Ruru "The Geocaching Morepork" also came out to visit this one as well, we also heard one of Tane relatives very close by in the trees out hunting for dinner.
A joint FTF with yeetrees . Our second find of the 3 published tonight. We were actually heading for The Junction but missed the correct track in the dark as some of them are not really labelled at the bottom. I had a copy of a map of the tracks in this area, but as they are not labelled at the Mawson St end, it didn't help much! Anyway, when we found we were closer to this cache than The Junction we decided to drop down to this one for an easy find on more familiar tracks. We encountered some great night views of Lower Hutt on the way.
