I searched high and low, checked all the trees in a 30-meter radius but without success. Is the cache still here?
Exciting to find it but a shame it is all wet. I stuck a dry zip lock bag in it with new paper for log book
Almost to the end of our self-imposed time limit... nice find as we fell down the bank and we won't talk about the crawl back up it. T4tc
Gorgeous day! Came for a drive, a scavenge among the flotsam & jetsam, and a cache (or two).
We made a quick find. Cache was a bit damp....dried it out, and added a ladybug tftc

Joined a party of intrepid Hamilton cachers on a pre-arranged mission with some like-minded Aucklanders, all keen to explore the wild west. Met up at the "Full moon Café" and hence "Team Full Moon" was our cache-logging name for the day. All in all, a fantastic day out on the west coast dashing up & down the dunes - some legs were more tired than others by this stage, & no-one complained when HKCB raced ahead to make the find while we ambled up behind. TFTC
After finding ourselves at the last cache we ambled over to this one to try our luck here. No issues that I can recall, and another successful find for team Full Moon on what was starting to become quite a nice day out. TFTC
Like others in our party these caches have been on the to-do list for a very long time, with the number 1 problem....TRANSPORT. I had thought about hiring a 4WD, and evened though about walking/running it but those thoughts were quickly dismiss and these cache again went to the end of the list. HPG mentioned that there was a plan to tackle these caches in the works and I had invited myself before she had finished her sentence.
With a early start in Hamilton we all meet up at the "Full moon Café" at 8am to fuel up for the day. This being the case we decided that "Team Full moon" was an appropriate name for the day. Once fuelled up, we hit the beach via Rimmer road and made our way all the way to the end so we could cache on the way back down.
Other sand dune to slide down and climb back up. Searched a few spots before located the cache. Thanks for the placement.

These caches had been on my radar for a LONG time. A few years later, plus a few new geo friends bought these caches into the topic of conversation a few months ago. A few emails to suss out a suitable weekend, suitable tides and suitable weather and we were ready to go off-road! Met up with the Auckland crew at the Fullmoon cafe and enjoyed a nice coffee before heading off the beaten track. We decided to go in via Rimmer Road, and yes I was a little worried but turns out all our vehicles were up to the job and we got on the beach nice and easily. Even though we had plenty of time and tide to spare we decided to cruise to the far end and work our way back home to be super safe.
A great day out, will be very memorable... that smell sure does linger! Signed logs as Team Fullmoon or HEATK1K (a Hamilton tradition of making acronyms of the cachers on the mission) H- HKCB, E-Evilno9, A-Alpenmilch80, T-TucanoVic, K-Kiwileon, 1-11hpg11 and K-Kiwi69. Couldn't quite convince the Aucklanders to join our tradition but we are thankful for their vowels
UP down up down sand sand sand. HKCB got the find on this one. Thanks for showing us the sights of Muriwai beach!

On the due list for way to long.
Thought my little Rav4 should be able to handle this but might to good to have some proper 4WD support. A plan was made for today with an extra low tide at 12pm.
Entered the beach at Rimmer Road around 8:45am and headed straight to the North end first for a sand sample for the Earth cache. Then it was time to head South and do some caching.
Scrambled up the dunes for the cache. This was easier at some location then others.
A fun day out - signed caches at "Team Full Moon"

On a 4WD trip far south plans were hatched with the Hamilton Crew to tackle those unloved Muriwai Geocaches. We finally found a date with the low tide perfect at lunch time and the weather not too bad. As we met in the "full moon" cafe we decided this would make a great team name. We had a great day out entering at Rimmer Road speeding up all the way to the end to begin our hard work collecting geocaches backwards. At our last find my silver Jeep was covered in stinky fishy green sand/stuff which will remind me at least for the next 4 weeks about this great day out playing on the beach of Muriwai. TFTC
Out on a wandering stroll with Alligatorsnz, Vistra, and 3 friendly muggles. walked along the rather windy beach and ended up above GZ, made the trek down and found the cache. bit sandy but all ok.
first visit in almost a year! thanks
first visit in almost a year! thanks
out with the caching and walking gang ( that includes a regular muggle - who we think we are finally turning.. and two newbie muggles lol) all looking for a reason to walk somewhere.. so here was one waiting with its little green flag... the sea looks stormy and bround, the rain stayed back and let us past with a pelting of blown sand instead... down i kneeled to look in the intuative spot - brushed over it and completely missed it staring at me low in the surroundings right by my hand... ha ha,,, cache dry and happy, thanks for giving us a waypoint on our destination:-)
Was in Auckland for a sales meeting on Friday and decided that I would make a weekend of it and find some cache if the chance allowed. Was advised by YuGeo4 that they were planning to pick up some caches along Muriwai Beach and asked me if I was interested in coming along.
Making our way along Muriwai Beach with Cats and Dragons & Sp8sm8 and the two vehicles and started making our way down to the beach, wow this was definitely an experience that I will never forget for a very long time.
After finding GC4GN92 - Come Find Yourself (Auckland), this was the next cache up along the beach run heading north and the sun was shining and the sea was flat and calm, just the best day ever to do these caches. It didnt take long before we were soon near GZ and we parked our cars in a safe spot and soon made our way towards GZ.
Managed to find the cache quickly and letting the GPSr guide the way, signed and then replaced the cache back as found before going back to the vehicle to set sail to the next cache. Thanks for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (6554)

Having found myself, and avoiding Tufty's gorse, I was all alone for this one. Headed around the base of the dune into the trees, thought for a moment that this may not have been the best way to come, but then the way opened up.
Was actually very peaceful sitting to sign the log. TFTC

Out and about with the family exploring and see if the new wee 4wd would make it onto the beach, let alone trying to reach one of the new caches. Tried this morning but tide coming up too far, so beat a hasty retreat. Decided to try again late this afternoon on our return from exploring South Head when the tide was a little lower. Little 4wd had to work hard to get down the beach. Glad we discovered this one was nearby BEFORE we got back to the vehicle. Another steep descent fun in the sand dunes. SL. TFTC.
Found orginally as part of phasevisitor team, now created own account, re-logging as yorkshirekiwi83.
We spent the day with mike-miss, FMZ, Rosmar and Lostcourse heading up Muriwai Beach in 4WDs to the Kaipara Harbour entrance, then back again. We searched for existing caches as we went and followed FMZ around as he placed new caches – it was a great day out! We also skipped this one on the way up the beach, so picked it up on the way back down. Made our way up and over the dunes and soon found the cache, while FMZ hid yet another. Thanks for the cache and a fun day out on the coast!

Our last stop for the day as we left this one for our return. Another steep climb up the dunes and along the top to GZ. Cache found reasonably quickly. An awesome day was had up the coast with Phasevisitor, Rosmar, Lostcourse and FMZ. TFTC!
Last cache find on the way back down the coast. Spent much of the return trip joking that we "needed to find Muriwai Beach" which was met with the rejoinder "we are already on Muriwai Beach!". What a bunch of dags. Great day out with rosmar, phasevisitor, Mikemiss and FMZ!
Had been meaning to get this for a while now. Had an orienteering score event just a little further down the forest in the morning. Decided to drive to the Rimmer Rd carpark to get this cache as I was also attempting other caches in the area. Nice hide - Im sure I have been here many times in orienteering events!
Many thanks ftc

I had just completed a orienteering course in the forest and checked the GPS to pick some caches on the access road to find this one was only a 1km away. So ran back down the coast road with the GPS this time. Headed over the dunes to the beach hoping to find a direct route to the cache. After a bit of "dune bashing" I made it to GZ. Took a while to find the right tree.
I always thought I would reach this cache as part of a 4x4 adventure but 2 legs worked just as well.

Plenty of vehicles out on the beach today; many people seem to be putting out long lines. Very hot day!

I used the existence of this cache and the next one up the beach to serve as a destination for a bike ride as I am training for the round taupo ride (or a bit of it anyway).
Little did I know that sand is much harder to ride on than tarseal (I thought at low tide it would be flat and hard, an easy ride (HA)).
So after the ride taking longer than I had planned, and seeing that the tide was turning, I decided to ride down the coast road. so a 500 M bush bash to the "road" which was so cut up with motorbike tracks I couldnt ride on it anyway.
I ended up walking to Rimmer road, only to find that bikes were not allowed further south, and a gentleman rather pointedly told me I would be trespassed if I attempted it.
BUGGER that was going to make life difficult to get back to Muriwai!
And No cellphone reception.
So I rode up Rimmer road, and called up the long suffering Mrs HC from the top of the hill, who duly picked me up once I had ridden out to the main road.
All was not lost however, as she also brought a change of clothes, and we went to the Helensville Grand Hotel for a fortifying beverage or two, and seeing as they were so nice, a delightful meal to follow.
All in all a pretty plesant end to a day that could have gone badly pear shaped.
Oh and the cache, yep its there, safe and sound with another signature in the logbook TNLN, TFTC.

My 2 wheel drive car would have quickly become a zero wheel drive car on the beach. I was legitimately in the forest today for an orienteering event so deviated to the corner of Temu Rd and Coast Rd by car, confronted by a security man for a film set, politely explained my "orienteering mapping" purpose and navigated to the sandy coast using an orienteering map and aerial photo. Met horse riders on the way. Many new tracks in here mean we'll have to update the orienteering map before its next use. Found the cache easily - coordinates very accurate. Thanks for the venture back into familiar terrain.
That was a nice location. We were driving in from Rimmers Road and the tide was coming in. Glad we didn't have to search for a long time.
Was nearby in the forest doing some work towards courses at next years NZ Orienteering Champs. Thought a jog out to this cache would be a nice way to finish off. Have been in these dunes before and they are very hard to navigate with only a map and compass so it was nice to have a big arrow on my gps showing the way. Always enjoy this part of the world. TFTC
7732 Our last cache along Muriwai Beach today, although we did make one more stop 10km away to collect some more sand samples… Found with Greenblat and Sp8sm8… thanks for the fun and great company. Thanks also to FMZ for bringing us here… gotta love driving on the beach, had a blast, and thankfully no problems for our geo-mobiles, cheers YuGeo4.
Picked the wrong tree first, but soon onto the right track, think each team member found there own "best" way out of this one.

This was a first attempt at geochaching. Pretty sure we had the right spot and spent some time looking but didn't have any luck finding it.
On the hunt for some loneliest caches today and the ones along this beach were perfect. Thanks for taking us here.
Had an easy climb to the top of the sand dune and wow!! Up on top of the world here! Steep slide down to GZ, found cache easily enough. Getting the hang of the monkey crawl up the sand dunes now! GC out. TFTC
Nearing the end of our Muriwai Beach adventure with Tufty and Zork V. Just for a change, a relatively easy walk up the dune, followed by a steep scramble down to GZ. It was more of a mission to get back up from the cache site - incredible how difficult a steep bank of soft sand is to climb! The terrain rating on these beach caches is certainly deserved. Nevertheless all of us managed to reach every cache. This was the last of the new series of caches, and our 6th joint FTF of the day. Thanks FMZ.

This one was very to get to by Kiwicouple, Zork V and myself but it was getting out of the valley that was a tad hard.

Cheers for the cache.

We were invited on a maintenace run up Muriwai Beach with FMZ and 10CC. As we have never travelled up this beach before we were not going to decline this offer. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and at the same time we were able to find this cache. TFTC and the fantastic trip.
I was a little injured prior to climbing around the sand dunes, but overcame this to have a awesome time and in awesome place. My first drive down a beach which was really cool. Good day out with FMZ and Rosmar establishing this Muriwai Beach cache ...TFTC [loneliest #8]
