TheLandGirl and I are down from Auckland to complete the Queen Charlotte track over 4 days. Day three was a 25km hike from Punga Cove to Portage, the day was very windy and cloudy and we got some drizzle towards the end of the walk. After a good climb up from Punga Cove, we soon found this cache. The log was too damp to sign, so I'm attaching a photo. TFTC!
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA TRIP takes us to wonderful places and gives us an incredible number of beautiful moments and experiences. On occasion we also visit a few GeoCaches on our way. We searched for some time in the "undergrowth", the navigation system sent us around, but we still couldn't find anything...!snapfish2 from Switzerland
A yearish since the last find, a quick hunt around and soon in hand. Cheers (I think I added in a log sheet for this one....). Onwards to Cowshed Bay!
Found before our descent down to the luxury of a cold beer at Punga Cove.

Full of a big cooked brekkie, we were nice and warmed up and bursting to go by the time we got to this one. Nice and straight forward
She was touch and go. The bottle of wine still paying its effects. Another victory.
GPS was all over the place but a systematic search of likely spots soon turned up the right one. Tftc.
CelloJoss and I had a big day ahead of us, as we departed Punga Cove for Portage. We gave ourselves only 5 minutes to look for this one, and could not locate in that time frame. Sure it is there, but a large number of choices to search. Next time.
It's a hot day today and certainly a trudge up from sea level to the Saddle. Still a way to go yet before we reach our base for the night so very much a rest-stop.
A few manuka in the neighbourhood so a process of elimination.
C from The Sullisauruses came up trumps here though following some perseverance.
Thanks b&w

We have been living and working here at Mahana Lodge and it's our night off. What a lovely evening for a stroll. We thought it would be cool to find a cache to celebrate the leap year tftc
One of the caches found since we have been working at Mahana Lodge. Beautiful area. Thanks
Walking the QCT and doing a few caches on the way. This one needs another log book.
That moment when you confuse a manuka and punga and just can't find the cache... We've been here for 3 months and Caching has taught us a lot about trees, but sometimes we just have a brain lapse. Found the cache eventually. TFTC!
Found during hiking 3000 km long Te Araroa trail, which begining in Cape Reinga and ending in Bluff. Thank you!
On our trip thru NZ we visit a lot of places and see many spectacular locations.
This cache was one of our stopps thanks a lot to the owner.

Today we started the third part of the QC-Track and there we looked for this small cache. It was a relatively quick found, so we signed the logbook !
Many thanks for hiding a cache on this beautiful track and greetings from Germany !

22265 Traveling through New Zealand to see nice people and places. Also to find some geocaches.
Today we went from Nelson to Picton, to take the watertaxi to Punga Cove. During our drive we stopped many times to look for a cache and at the Lodge we made a walk to the 2 caches nearby. One of them was quite high, but it all gave a beautifull view on nature in new Zealand.
Most caches were found quite quickly. A few took more time. Some were too humid to write clearly. Muggles did not watch what we were doing.

TFTC! After great afternoon on the Queen Charlotte track, this was cherry on the top
First find today on our walk from Camp Bay to Bay of Many Coves. Beautiful morning again! TFTC
Quick find here, no issues here. Pretty quiet although a few cars parked around the place. TFTC B&W.
Today we drove out to Punga Cove Resort for a bit of lunch, drink and generally just relaxing.
The occasion is a late Xmas treat for Jo's parents. So while it's a bit of a drive compared to a transfer from Picton by boat, that was the preferred method of transport so we ran with it.
A good day out with good food and great service, we also took the chance to grab a few caches on the way back, something Jo's parents were pretty keen to be part of. Thanks for the caches.

Day 3 on the Queen Charlotte Track and enjoyed the break at the top of this climb to grab the cache. Have to admit to making too many assumptions about signs before going back to the GPS which got me back on track. TFTC bumandworker
Oh my goodness, what a climb to start day 3 of walking the track. And there was plenty more over the next two days! TFTC bumandworker - great job on them all along here.
My very last find of the year. I started in Anakiwa yesterday and was planning to get to Punga Cove today. Before leaving the Queen Charlotte Track to head down the dirt road toward Punga Cove, I paid this cache a quick visit.

I wasn't able to live up to my name on this one. Widened the search somewhat but with others waiting in the car I didn't spend as much time as I would normally have with a somewhat elusive cache.

After climbing up the hill to the Kenepuru Saddle we looked for this cache and found it after a short search. It was a good start to our walk on the track.
Thank you for this cache!

We went for the Queen Charlotte Track today and this was almost our starting point. I didn't find the box at first until alligator444 tried and retrieved it quickly.

We have been on a road trip trough New Zealand for 25 days. After climbing Mt. Stokes we went for a short stroll on the Queen Charlotte Track.

While on holiday at Broughton Bay with Kiwimykl, we took a day out to go geocaching. The main aim of the day was to get up Mount Stokes, with that achieved, there were a few other caches to be collected. This was one Kiwimykl had found on a previous visit.

[green] What a day! First I decide to go to the sounds, mainly to do two caches that I had missed earlier, and place one while I was out that way, Then I find I have a corrupted load in my GPS, I can navigate, but a description or hint causes it to lock up. Luckily I have my cellphone, so I load all the caches that I might do into that, then half the time leave it in the car (which is okay, usually I don't need a hint, but reading the description is often nice). I expected the trip to up to Titirangi to be mostly dirt road and long distances, but was rather surprised at how far the seal went, and how far Titirangi isn't, really. Not that I got there. I tossed up staying the night and continuing Sunday, but decided not. Saved for another day.
Some nice shade here, took my time signing the log!

No luck with this one either and with family still walking on ahead, couldn't spend too long looking.
2nd day of walking the track, finished for the day but popped up to pick this up in the evening whilst it was quiet on the track
#10217. Good parking; always a bonus on unsealed road. A short stroll to GZ, and a quick find in the second object I inspected. TFTC.
After a long drive without a cache, it was good to stop for this one. It didn't take long to find either. Now we had to decide whether to go for Camp Bay next, or leave it for the way back. In the end, we decided to leave any caches that involved walks until later as we were keen to make it as far as Titirangi. TFTC.
No 5 on our Queen Charlotte Track holiday.
A bit of a search for this find to start our day 3 of the long walk, this time heading into the cloud.

Day 3! We set off from Punga Cove with a mixture of elation and trepidation, knowing that this would be the toughest day of our hike along the stunningly spectacular Queen Charlotte Track. Fortunately, I'm the faster walker, so I had time to fossick for geocaches while Cassie 2010 caught up. She actually had a bit of a wait, though, as this was another cache that I nearly gave up on. Persistence paid off, though, and soon we were back on the road, heading for Portage many miles away. TFTC!
Yet another trip was planned ages ago and names went in for a trip with Adventure sports club through the Marlborough Sounds for a days boat-based activities. Geocaching was quite a popular option and despite G H 6 7 1 0 being committed elsewhere for the day, the three remaining members of the Heaphy quartet and a ring-in called Dave made up the party of 5, including our boat pilot Lindsay, all aboard the skylark!
Setting sail at 0900 we encountered some bumpy wet stuff on the way out but the wind dropped after that and it was a pretty smooth ride for the remaining trips and traverses between land masses in the trusty 18 footer, kind of enjoy this type of caching. 6 months ago, no caches by boat, ever. Now, 3 trips and many found, nice. We even ended up towing a sailing boat with a broken motor, and no wind to move the sails, into Punga Cove, good stuff.
Last stop of the day as it turned out. Dropped off here whilst the trampers were taken back to Waikawa so grabbed the three nearest caches. Although these are available by car, it was nice to walk along in perfect temperatures, enjoying good conversation with fellow hobbyists.
After walking up the track onto the gravel road a nice pleasant walk up to find the cache as hinted

Today four members of the Geocaching section of the RNZAF Base Woodbourne Adventure Sports Club along with a tame muggle boat driver, took to the briny to access a bunch of boat only access geocaches in the Queen Charlotte Sound.
This was the eighth of nine caches logged today, most with high D or T ratings (although this wasn't one of them). After leaving Camp Bay, we slogged up the hill, initially on a track, then on a well formed road. Once we got to the Kenepuru Saddle we went into search mode and the cache was soon found by capperz. The log was signed and the cache replaced and then we headed off on our last search of the day.

Great day out in the sounds on the Base Boat with Capperz, Kiwimykl and Tatts.
This was the last stop for the day before returning to Picton - and an opportunity to grab 3 caches and then sit with a drink and basket of chips soaking up the afternoon light.
After grabbing "Camp Bay" we then upped a slippery track to the road and capperz found this one pretty quickly.

Found it! Day 3 of our Queen Charlotte walk. After an enjoyed and restful sleep at Mahana Lodge it was an early start for our long day walk ahead. The cache was found as time ran out before we needed to move on. It is in great condition perched in it's hiding spot below the track. TFTC SL
Found around 08:15 hrs
Leaving Punga Cove for my third day on the QCT.
Search a bit but at least I got the name of these trees!

Last log along the hike today since it already is pitch dark and we still have to reach the campside. That is at least another 30 min detour. I wish the doc-flyer would start that more obvious. Pretty bad infrastructure for that track! But the view is mind blowing and thank you for the smile along the way.
Today I was in the Marlborough Sounds to join the Third Catering and Supply Company part of the Third Combat Support Services Battalion based at Burnham Military Camp, on an adventure leadership training exercise.
After staying the night at Camp Bay all of our gear had to come up the hill to this point for collection by UNIMOG. I had my pack, a day bag and a mountainbike to bring up the hill! This was a steep and sweaty grunt up the hill. We also had stores and cooking gear (including a BBQ) all of which had to come up that hill - oh, and about 20 odd Jerry Cans (thankfully empty!).
While I cooled off I had a quick scrabble about in the bushes for this one. As expected GPS all over the show under the tree canopy. Was thankful for the hint, but was abit unsure as to which particular object it referred... there were two, and no direction given - even with that said I managed to get there after scouting the three likely objects and had find in hand.
From here the team mountain biked their way to mistletoe bay - but the company was short of drivers so I helped ferry the wagons there.
A rather unpleasant experience was had just across the road as I loaded my car - my shoe found some human excrement which had been perched nicely on the roadside... seriously people, you couldn't get off the track?! nasty.
Apart from that, a great day, and good to get another smiley face - this Terrain rating very well earned with all of that gear on my back/front and bike!

Makka pakka 2 and the kids are Off to the Marlborough Sounds for New Years. So a bite of caching on the way to brake up the road trip. So thank you to all those caches out there and a happy New Year to you all. Days outing to Anakoha bay to see old friends
A quick find on the return trip from the Mt Stokes Track. I have been past here before on the walkway but that was before my caching days. Signed log, TFTC
Dropped of wifey at Punga Cove for a meeting and had a couple of hours to do some geocaching great spot down here
Spotted the likely hiding place from the track sign. A few steps down off the track and there it was. Nice one. TFTC, Biggles.
Checked a few locations before I located the cache. Found someone's walking pole leaning on the nearby sign and took it with us down the track. Eventually caught up with the owner and was able to return it. Good deed done for the day
Checked here, then there and then found it at that one. Second to find it today. TFTC #4565
Fourth of the day on our way to Titirangi for a few days R'n'R with a group of friends. One of our muggle friends found this one - with a bit of assistance - and was so elated!!! TNLN. TFTC.
found it... first thougt about a "toiletcache" its a bit disgusting around the cache - sorry
Quite a few cars here but fortunately no muggles so a reasonably quick find before yet another car arrived, this one with muggles. TFTC.
With the forecast to good to be true off we went for a weekend camping at the Sounds. I just can't believe that people wax about our magic places and environment, then sh*t on it and leave their trash. TFTC
Had a rough search around Knowing there was a cache here without cache info, cords or clue. This is because I put my Phone/GPS device away for safekeeping and then couldnt find it, thinking it was stolen.
Found I was still carrying it 36hrs later after I had cancelled the SIM card and ordered replacement!! DOH
No chance of tracking with phone off and no coverage so extremely p@@d off.
Also lost pre saved cache data, thus the DNF
Im not too proud to confess to this!! Very funny after the event of course.

A nice quick find after a few muggles had moved on. Thanks for the cache and for bringing me to this great spot.
We started the day with the cache at Torea saddle, then walked all the way over to this one to end the day in style... Thanks!
Wow! That hill is a heart starter from our overnight accommodation. Cache in good shape. Dropped a GC. TFTC.
Yip found this one - where it said - nice little natural cover - tftc
Was nice and fresh for second day biking after a wonderful night at Punga Cove Resort.

#501, found during my kiwi traveling. Log in may, because I was without net. TFTC
After we had sidetracked to Swing by Nopera we had to also sidetrack to swing past here. No muggles - human or weka - so we could let the GPS settle and it pointed to a spot that fitted the hint exactly. As it should have because there was a cache there. We also enjoyed the glimpse of the sea - and the glimpse of the sun for the first time today. Took a trackable. Thanks.
