Logs
Didnt take too long to find! Impressed with the size of the tree concealing this cache. Contents extremely wet and log book destroyed so I didnt fill it out. Thanks for the hide?
The boys took the direct route from behind the rangers station whilst the girls went round on the track. QEF once at GZ. Couldn't sign log as too wet and didn't have any spare paper to leave. TFTC
Found with PhilBirdBoys after a disappointing DNF at the last one, unable to write on the log as its soaked. TFTC.
After spending the day with the Motuihe trust decided to go for a long walk back to the ferry. Beautiful view from this area. TFTC
Thanks for the cache! Lots of biddy-bids stuck to our trousers to get to this one! Worth it for the birdsong and treasures though:-)
Lancelads found another cache. Unfortunately we forgot to bring a pen so no writing in the log. Saw some wattlebirds, a rare spot! Gonna be pulling thorny seeds out for days.
Took a little bit of manoeuvring around the tree but managed to find it. Clever spot, well concealed. TFTC
Gave it a good go, but didn't feel entirely safe going through the overgrown bush. Might try again next time I'm on the island.
More saddlebacks in this stunning pohutakawa tree. Found after a short search TFTC
rebel98 and rustynz are exploring the Island, came to check on this one. Nice hide. Stunning view. It is so hot

TW did the honours here after we took a breather to cool down. Man it was hot on the island today! t4tc
Had just one more week of school holidays left so Pagenz planned a day to this island to pick up all the caches. Fortunately it was an overcast day so not as hot as it could have been. Found by a couple of living legends while enjoying some respite from the sun. Cheers
I decided to take my two nephews and niece on a last hurrah to Motuihe Island before school starts this week and I roped in paraonegirl to come with us. Wasn't expecting the ferry ride over to take as long, so we had less time on the island than we thought. All-in-all we found all the caches and the kids had time for a short swim in the ocean. The tour guide was surprised when I said we were heading out to Bald Knob with the kids. Easy for them, as I was the pack-horse carrying everything we needed - plenty of water, togs, towels and food. Hardly anyone else took advantage of the trails so we had them all to ourselves. It was a warm day, a little overcast, but thankfully not too hot.
Mr 7 and a 1/2 scrambled to make the find here.

Joined up with Metlot58 and Pazza2 to explore Motuihe island. It was a very slow trip out to the island on the red boat on a drizzly morning. As we approached the island the weather cleared. Grass was a bit wet on our approach even following the grit rail. Quick find here.
Motuihe has been on my must do for a long time so a plan was made to head out to the island with Pazza2 and Jag50. The morning drizzle didn't deter us and after a slow boat ride we set out on our walk with the drizzle clearing to make for a great day on the island. We encountered so much wonderful birdlife and we lost count of the saddlebacks we saw up close. This was our first cache of the day and a nice quick find was made
We have long since wanted to visit this Island, so when we heard Merlot58 and Jag50 were heading over, we jumped at the opportunity. The Island is teaming with birds which was my favourite part of it. It was overcast to start with, and a strong Nor Westerly so my swimming plans were put on hold for this trip so that we could grab a chance to visit all the caches.
A nice easy find here. Tftc

Teamed up with Alpenmilch80 and her Imaginary muggle friend. Great day out on the island with a nice ice cream from the DOC office at the end. The slow ride back with the Red Boats gave us some time to enjoy a well deserved cold beer.

Saw the advertisement for the red boats heading out to Motuihe Island and booked the tickets with KiwiLeon and my muggle friend. Enjoyed the slow ride out to the island to start exploring the tracks. Enjoyed dipping our hot legs into the cooling water at Takutairaroa Bay and the ice cream provided for sale by doc. Our last geocaches was found easily just before we needed to return to the boot.
The slow ride back to Auckland and an excellent day spend was celebrated with a couple of cold beers on the boat. TFTC

Out with Tuolei for our second island adventure within a week, this time we planned to clear Motuihe. This time we took Urbangypsy, MrCleverclogs, Mrs Tuolei , Mrs B and Tinytree along but they spent most of the time at the beach as we ventured around the tracks. Although no where near as demanding as Rangitoto it is still a good walk on a hot day and filled in most of our time between the drop off and pick up times we had.
Didn't have trouble finding the cache, but some how within the small space we had I managed to drop another pen and after a search for a couple of minutes could not spot it? Joked about making another sport of finding my pens and I have left a decent trail of them now around the place. TFTC.

Second find for Bennett24 and me as we made our way around Motuihe on a beautiful summer's day. The sensible thing would be to splash around in the water but we were determined to clear the island out on one day so that's what we did.
Even without the hint we could see where the cache was likely to be on approach and we split up and one took one side and one took the other. Another find for Bennett24 here - a pity he is not as good at finding pens as he is at finding caches. Fortunately we had plenty of spares.
Cache is in excellent condition, no problems here. Thanks for the cache.

Lovely old pohutakawa..... enjoyed exploring the island with djhayes2121.... tftc.
Arrived here through long wet grass .... but there is another way All good on GZ. Nice and pleasant find on Motuihe Island. TFTC
After clearing up the western side of the island, we made our way east to get the 7 remaining caches. A grand old tree resides here. The cache was quickly spotted in its resting place. A quick sign of the log and we carried on, TFTC!
A good turn up to this meetup - think the island destination added to the adventure. It was a nice warm day, and we hiked off to the furthest cache first. No major hassle finding the caches on this walk, with so many eyes. Good to see people making there first finds.

The largest Meetup group we have had so far and it was great to explore the island with people who had made their first find. Another nice quick find and stopped in the shade for lunch. TFTC
I went looking around the wrong side of the tree so spent some time looking. Had I gone the other way it would have been faster.TFTC
Found it while I was visiting this beautiful island. I had no pen but I've took a photo. TFTC!
Soon found this while on a beautiful day at Motuihe with a bunch of friends...
Thanks for good hide !

After learning the history of the Island we were free to explore after lunch. Beautiful views from the surrounding area. Nice fibd with supernanny and muggle mates.
Thanks for getting me ashore.... I travel here frequently, but don't often get to go ashore. Great walk. TFTC
Following in my usual tradition, I decided to bring up my 11,000th milestone cache on an Island. I noticed that the ferry to Motuihe Island was running this Sunday, so I made a concerted effort on Saturday to find the caches I needed to bring myself as close to this milestone as possible - only needing to find 4 of the 5 caches on the Island to bring it up. It was a lovely Autumn day and a pleasant ferry trip out to the island. I talked to a couple of the volunteers on the wharf and they noticed the GPS so asked about it - they knew about geocaching and knew there were some caches on the Island, they then encouraged me to hide some more on other spots on the island - I had a couple of containers on me, so I obliged with 2 new hides!
This was my second find of the day and was found after a short search around the tree, before continuing on my loop of the Island. TFTC!

Nobody around as all the tree planting volunteers had gone the other way. Got covered in sticky grass seeds getting to GZ but managed to find the cache easily enough. Great island to explore. TFTC
Early start for us on Motuihe and obviously a few caches. This one was found very quickly and it is in good shape at its spot. Magic island
4th find on Motuihe island. Made our way out to the GZ and i quickly spotted the cache. another great little spot taking me to places on the island that i had never been to before!
Loved this cache! The grass was very overgrown and it was pretty hard to get to but was very rewarding when we got there 2nd cache of the day here at Motuihe... I think I've encouraged my friend to join in TTFC
Found the cache during our short visit in this island. Unfortunately we had to leave this place to be back by dark in Auckland. Thanks and greetings from Latvia!
This cache was my #1979

On the island for the day to do some charity work and saw the opportunity to grab some caches - and also cache our first island out!
A bit of bush bashing involved but once at GZ, the cache was quickly secured.

Found following a short notice trip to Motuihe. Some big strides through the grass / regenerating flora needed using the route taken today- great fun!! Quickly found the cache - Thanks heaps
Found this one at the last minute but was worth is, when we passed the rangers house he look at us suspiciously but we kept walking.
Cool cache, beautiful view on a sunny day. We accidentally walked through the long grass to get to it, but took the path back out! TFTC
Was out with Keylev (and husband) and Tufty. Was a last minute decision for me to join them. Great day out. Enjoyed walking around the island…will have to come back one day.
Was our last cache for the day. Enjoyed an ice block before we headed back.

Out with keylev (and husband - the jet pilot) and UncleSamNZ to try and pick up a few caches on the nearby islands. It was a great day and an ideal day for cooling down with the odd dousing (thanks Russell).
We had a bit of a discussion on which way we should go before venturing on one way which did eventually lead to the GZ.
Cheers for the cache.

This was the final cache on our jet ski trip to grab some caches on the local islands. We followed the little geo trail for a nice easy find. Loved the views and we will most certainly be back to explore some more.
Back to the information centre for an ice cream before heading back towards home. Was a bit of a choppy ride but all got there in one piece.
Thanks for the cache.

The ranger was on his lawn mower so we decided to walk around the place and went for it. from there we took a short cut to the beach which had us climbing down tree roots to get to the beach. That was a fun escape. tftc
Thanks to Me.N.R.Lass for bringing us over to the island for a spot of geocache hunting. This was quickly found before heading back to the boat for the trip back to Half Moon Bay. TFTC!!!
Mr B took me for a paddle today from Beachlands. Awesome view magnificent tree TFTC . should come to this island more often.

Only had time to find 2, was a nice quick find with Markgeostar and my muggle mummy. Wonderful day, beautiful island!
Stunning views, magnificent day - no muggles about as it is a Monday! Spotted some dolphins, too. Was with Paul Lowman, fellow geocacher and also my father.
Another find. Our third today. (First day geocaching) this could become addictive. Beautiful spot on Motuihe Island beside venerable Pohutukawa tree.
Ended up doing some bush bashing in waist-deep grass...only to find I'd approached from the wrong direction. Doh. Still...great spot and worth the effort.
Wonderful tree and view. No one else in sight today. Lots of growth along track to GZ compared to the last time we were here. Saw a grey warbler on the flax. Earlier lots of rosella, oyster catchers and a plover. NINO TFTC
Third find of the day on the island. Another nice easy find. TFTC

Found during our stop off whilst kayaking from Kohimarama to Waiheke. Lovely island TFTC
Good hiding spot, although we thought that the original hide was closer to the tree, so we moved it there. Motuihe is simply a treasure and can easily compete with her sisters and brothers in the Hauraki Gulf.
Thanks for the hide!
