Logs
There was no silence in this forest when I descended rather rapidly on my backside. That will teach me to walk in sandles with no tread. Soon got what I wanted eventually. Time to go home now for a good wash. Tftc
Bit of a muddy rrek down the hill with my 9 year old. Almost gave up but carried on and was lucky to find it. No pen so wasn't able to log on paper log inside.Very happy to find our way back out!!
I came to New Zealand with my wife on honeymoon
It is hard to log all the caches, I found here in New Zealand, so excuse my mass log for caches around Orewa, please
At first i started with caches around Estuary Cycleway, then to Red Beach, Hatfield´s Beach, Millwater and Silverdale. Some of the caches are now disabled as i can see, and some of them were disabled, but were on place.
After consulting with owner I made maintanance on some of disabled and missing caches.
I found many really nice caches...it was awesome, but i think, that some of them (for example Bison caches) have too low D/T combos...but owners are really helpful, so I managed to find each of them. I usually borrowed bike from my brother in law and then in the early morning, or in evening went geocaching. I really liked that routine. So I´m really thankful for all the caches on/near Estuary
I need to write here, that I really like nature in NZ...its a big difference between Europe :/
So – TFTC, guys, and especially The Wonder Stuff for placing and G-2 for placing and hints...and sry for mistakes in my poor English...have a nice day(s) there and u should come to find some caches here in Slovak Republic

With shorts and boots on, and already disheveled and muddy, it was a no-brainer to head here to knock this one off. I'd noted previous logs and just did as bidden and headed to GZ. Soon arrived where the large tree was leaning and soon had the cache in hand. All good here and replaced as found. Signs of fun here too, a rope swing and a stack of cut tree branches, cache should be safe though.
A double pronged geocaching attack on the area North of me; first up was a trip to the wonderful Stillwater and get all those here and there caches that have been previous DNFs or just not attempted as too far off the main trail when my companions haven't liked the diversion option. This was followed by a quick dash to Orewa for one before finishing off out on the Whangaparoa peninsula grabbing random caches here and there. Two dozen was the haul and the day was a combination of blazing sunshine and warmth, and Sou-Wester gusts and torrential rain dropping the temp down to low-double digits, strange weather day. Thanks to all (both?) COs for their placements.

The terrain was a lot worse than I thought it would be. I wish I had worn my boots. Once I got to GZ, the find was easy. I wish I could say the same for the hike back. I reached the top near peoples' backyards and had to scoot along until I found the way out. TFTC.
In the area with a previous finder, who kindly showed us the best parking spot to access this cache as well as the route to gz. After slipping down the muddy bank and a small bush bash we made our way to gz. Once the phone GPS settled down, we spotted something at our feet that required closer inspection and of course inside was the well hidden cache.
Every time I have been in Orewa I have eyed this cache but wasn’t sure how to access it. Today Supernanny and I were heading back to Auckland and after an icecream break in Orewa we were passing very close to this cache so I talked her into detouring and we headed to the closest parking spot. I did a quick spin through the description and saw the suggested entry so that’s what we did and after a wee bit of a bush bash we arrived at the tree. What a marvellous specimen. A swing has been hung from one of the branches so it’s obviously used by local kids and the cache was found lying in the open next to what I’m sure was it’s hiding spot, so after signing the log I tucked it back in there and was very happy to get a smiley on this lonely cache.
After success this afternoon at A Rocky Situation, and then stumpy at the Northern end of Orewa, I was already covered in cobwebs, scratches and debris from the bush bash to get stumpy, so I figured how difficult could this one be...
I have previously had a brief look at this cache from the lower end but it was way to muddy at that time to even attempt. However today I followed the info properly, and as I neared the entry point I could hear people in the pool on the other side of the fence, so had to make sure to tread very quietly as I headed into the undergrowth. GPS took me right to the spot, and I quite literally almost tripped over the hide. Interesting spot, right in the middle of suburbia, TFTC

Looked at the approach and read the last entry decided to forgo this. Wasnt Wasn't dressed for a muddy brush track. Another time!
Absolute bush bash!
Entering from the suggested start, it was slippery mud all the way down. Without the bamboo sticks we normally carry this would have been quite difficult given the footing. Had to slide from tree to tree to get to the bottom. Not sure why there was all mud here as it hasn't rained in four days. Once there it was a bit difficult to lock on to the coordinates given the heavy canopy. Eventually wound my way to the GZ and what a sight it was! Easy find once we got there. A 2.5 on terrain doesn't do it any justice - suggest at least a 3.5. Cache in good condition. TFTC

I have been very scared, too much spidernets everywhere, but really good hide. Thanks
Picking up kiwiscot from her overnight rave ( well a sleepover with friend! ) and this was the first cache which popped out nearby. Came in from the top and made our way to GZ. Found a couple of balls - obviously lost from one of the boundary properties. Decided we would pick them up on our return journey. At GZ made a quick find as cache was lying out in the open. Signed and replaced with the likely camo placing it more securely hopefully. Now the return journey. For some reason it was slippier and slidier than going down. Thankfully there were plenty young trees to use as a stabiliser! Once back on the solid realised we didn't pick the balls up. Oh well, next person may find them. TFTC
Had been meaning to get this on other trips to Orewa , but was always a bit rushed , and had an idea this one might take some time !
It sure did ! A total bush bash was needed here ! Even though my phone "mapnik " suggested a track was here ; I never found it !
Anyway , finally I saw what seemed to me it would be the perfect tree ! And it was ....had quick search and found the jar ! Phew ,,,,Great relief ! Then I had to work out how to get back to my car !!!!!
Thanks ! Quite a good adventure thanks G--2

While visiting the area we walked around the streets until we found the right way in then a steep drop to locate the cache many thanks for bringing us here favorite from us
This one was such a steep drop but we were glad we found it.when approaching from Dorchester place walkway it pays to go directly down to the right as this will save a lot of time. Nice big tree and cache was easily located, signed and placed back
I parked nearby in Dorchester Place (it's where my Tom Tom took me), then followed the path a short distance, before leaving that and scrambling through the bush for 40 plus metres. The last nine metres were the trickiest, trying to narrow down where to search. Then I noticed a dominant thing and headed towards that. Soon the hide with the cache was discovered. There are several animal traps nearby and orange tape stretched out. I scrambled back up the hill to return to my car. TFTC G--2.
Drove around to see what might be the best approach to this cache, Grovenor dr looked good to me so that was how I did it, and did it I did! I crashed my way in a stealthy sort of manner to the magnificent beast in the forest, seemed he had his day but still he had a story to tell, one that involved a cache, he whispered to me of it's whereabouts and I was led to it's location. I signed myself in and we departed company, he stayed to share his wisdom with others who risk to tread here in trepidation and me for shores further away...
I discovered, to my dismay, that my car battery was well and truly flat this morning. After getting some help to get it started I was left with the task of driving around to recharge the battery. Well, nothing for it but a long drive up the motorway followed by some park and grabs to get things make in full working order. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it!
As I parked up next to the little reserve I realised that this was not what the doctor ordered as I had another 50m of bush between me and GZ. Still, I find it hard to resist a walk in the trees so left the car idling and dived in anyway. I was rewarded with a little bush bash including the dreaded supple jack. Anyway, I was able to make my way to GZ where I executed a quick find here of the nicely camoed cache. Cheers for the mini adventure!

Nice walk at 9PM on a damp night after recent drizzle. Very good surprise. Also an Excellent introduction to new family members
Our final day in NZ had my nephew and I out for an early morning of caching around Orewa. This was our first stop and it was surprising and unexpected trek to GZ.
We parked as instructed, took a left turn off the path & headed down into the bush. There were some possum traps and one unfortunate animal had its head stuck in one. Stepped around it and tentatively moved deeper into the wet undergrowth from rain last night.
Following our GPS. We arrived at GZ & spotted the cache quickly. SL & replaced then made our way back. A great location in the middle of suburbia. TFTC

"Garden" seemed a little strange. I had the feeling that we were encroaching on someone's private property or at least a project. Then there was the two dame doves.....

I borrowed a bike today and this is my first cache. I think I should have walked to this one. Quick find. TFTC.

Well this was an adventure! We dove off and eventually found the fallen tree and then spent a good while looking for the cache. After getting there I didn't want to give up either. Eventually found almost accidentally. Thanks glyn(the only one)!
Not sure if its still there? The fallen tree that I found had a tree hut in it.
May have been a different one.

The three of us found this after traipsing through the bush! Dropped off a very special toy on a mission and ruined Anna's white 'chucks'!
Can't say we enjoyed getting to the cache but effort was worthwhile when we found it-couldn't hear a thing-tftc
Just checking up on you know who - bit of a bush bash, The Montana was spot on at GZ

First finder in over 6 months
A lot of bush bashing was required to get to the cache the way I used!
Cache is in very good condition.
Overall good fun and the last of another long day hunting caches.

Interesting wee spot of bush. Cache found and slippery scamble back up bank. Got the smilie thou .
Quite a mission finding access to GZ. Eventually took a punt along the edge of some new houses. Good job I didn't bump into any of the neighbours. When I did eventually find GZ, I was rewarded with a very nice camo'd cache. I really have no idea how Glyn managed to find this place. A definite favourite. TFTC.
this one was an intense one, read other blogs talking about an easy route, not likely, I entered at the bottom and had to trek through a fair bit of pretty funky bush after about ten I located area andfound cache and headed out of side of bush, this was an easier route but was still in almost waist height grass also new houses going up around the area potential muggle spotting..... but still would do it again for the cache pretty damn good
It was there - a satisfying find, remembered playing bass with Glyn the Drummer, cache master here.
Something a bit different, wasn't sure of the access but went with my best guess which proved correct.

We initially approached this from the other side but thought that we would have an awful lot of bushwhacking ahead of us, so decided to check out the other side and found the cacher track so down we headed. After a little bit of hunting we had the cache in hand Super cool camo, and place for a cache - I find that those geocaches that take a little bit more effort are always that little bit more rewarding when you finally find them
Since we were in the area for a mini numbers-run, as a practice for a bigger one ahead, the thoughts of crashing through 60 or so metres of dense bush into a reasonable drop, almost led us to skip this one...
...but having the map on the Oregon, it looked like there might be another way... and there was.
Only a little bush crashing required, and we were rewarded with what was the most perfect little hide, and so appropriate to the philosophies above. What a great little spot - made somehow even more surreal by it's natural surroundings - and surpisingly no trash in the area too.
G2 Camo did not disappoint - looked right at it, and didn't click - it was only when Loz picked it up ad it rattled, we realised we'd found it.
Really rewarding cache - onto the faves list - Cheers Glyn!

Well what a little spot this was, The key here was to find the best entrance point to the bush. As we were on a numbers assault on orewa, we very nearly gave up on this one today, but just as we were calling it, we came up with the goods. TFTC.
After realising a fair bit of bushwacking would be involved with this one we found another route in, and this was not to disappoint. Loved the camo, this cache was definately worth not leaving out!
What a mission! Out on a walking trip to a few caches in the area today and it took us a while to find the right spot.Love the camo.

Found the way in, bush bash styles, surprised the GPS held signal so well under the trees, GZ was almost spot on, decided to find the easier way out, awesome spot in suburbia!!

We spent the afternoon in the Orewa area finding the many new caches that have been published. This one was a little trickier to find but I did read the cache description & hint which assisted with not only finding the right place to enter but with the cache find itself. A real secret spot in the middle of new housing development. TFTC.
I certainly took the wrong way in here. I think the answer maybe to come in from the top... NOT the bottom. There a pretty big whole in the ground to negotiate and some good bush to bash through. After all of that the find was easy- and then back to the car! Thanks.

Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Lots of laughs on this one. We searched the perimeter for a better way in than our GPS sent us, because of all of the rain this week the track was "abit" slippery and sent T sliding down the hill, luckily nothing was hurt but he won't be able to live that down for awhile. Cleverly hidden. TFTC
An interesting philosophical question we first pondered many years ago. Funnily enough on our way to Orewa today we came across a T-shirt that read "If a man speaks deep in the NZ forest, and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still wrong?"!
Slipped and slid our way to GZ where we found the cleverly camoed cache after a short hunt. Chose the easy way out. Thanks for the philosophy and the cache.

Nice to have a new cache in the area to fill that caching gap in the calendar. Took a different route out than the one taken in. TFTC

Like the quote… "is sound only sound when someone hears it" An inspirational and philosophical topic, awesome hide and camo, many thanks for the mini bush bash, had a good laugh about your quote as well Glyn, well done.

On our way to do some caches at Mahurangi when this notification came through so we called on the way past.....dropped off 'TBG You Will Go Caching...' and 'Lockbug'....amazingly FTF....TFTC
Decided to head north for the new caches and although I figured this one would be found already, decided to give it a go. A bit of a bush bash to get to GZ, but took the easy way out. Nice hide and TFTC!!!
