With a day off work, I decided to make the trek up here to tick this one off the list.
A very peaceful hike from the main track where I parked my car, and an easy find at GZ.

I really needed some outdoor therapy today and this cache was the perfect way to clear my head. After finding a sort of nearby cache my dog Duke and I parked at the locked gate on Warralong Road and started out enjoying the stroll , We saw a couple of motorbike riders and heard lots of birds. The weather was not as bad as predicted but hearing a few of the trees creaking , I thought if a tree falls in the forest I reckon I will here it. Then we reached the HILL , my gosh it just kept on going and I think Duke was nudging me from behind to continue on a few times. I was so glad to reach the top and then went hunting for the cache which was found quickly thanks to the hint. The original log book is very wet , so I signed the replacement. The weather had turned a bit colder and more windy so after popcorn Twisties and chocolate duke and I quickly headed back making good time. Thanks for the cache jonignite tnln replaced as found sl

Hooray finally got to this one. After trying this one with dr who acouple of years ago. But not getting up the top as 1am and he wanting to drive up to it. I was out with the bushwalking club today and our walk was up to this hill. When I saw it on the program I went hooray.
Got up the top with over half an hour in front of the group but waited for them and then had lunch and checked out the tower. After doing these things I teamed up with acouple of the group and went to see if I could find this cache. My phone was all over the spot and got me to about 7 meters away and then it changed to 30 meters with me just standing there. I searched a few of the hints and the third ones got it TFTC

We diverted off the LMHS trail of caches to come and search for this one. We parked up where the Murrays Forest Road crosses the Great Northern Walking Track, thus starting our hike a little further down the Murrays Forest Road than where the new gate now blocks the way up the Warrawolong Road - and what a great place it turned out to be to start our hike, as just meters from where we parked up we saw a beautiful 7 to 8 foot Carpet Python lying right across the track! After photographing the Python we followed the Great Northern Walk along the ridge line with steep drop offs to each side of us. It took us exactly an hour to reach Ground Zero after a throughly enjoyable and beautiful hike. A great hike and a nice quick find once at Ground Zero, where it was good to see that we had resuscitated the cache with it not having been found since the 4th January 2018. We signed the log book and also took out the NORMAN Travel Bug, the Captain Mo's Adventures Travel Bug and the Box of Love Travel Bug. We didn’t exchange with other Trackables as we believe the owners prefer to see their TBs travelling and the ones we took out had been stationary for a very long time. The oldest log books were very damp and mouldy in a separate ziploc bag but the most recent log book was nice and dry. The cache container was in good condition. Thanks so much for the cache and a favourite point awarded for the very enjoyable hike - our GPS recorded a 9 kilometre walk with a total ascent of 411 meters and a total descent of 439 meters, with the highest elevation we reached being the top of the tower at 648 meters. It took us another hour to hike back down again after 52 minutes at the top enjoying the spectacular 360 degree views from the top of the tower. Greetings from Zimbabwe

What a wonderful afternoon for a hike. Meet up with thegarbageman, BFJ, Team Novo, together with Geoian, Haydos101 and myself set off for this adventure. Enjoyed the climb (not as fit as I use to be!!) and wonderful views. Got a bit damp at the end but well worth an afternoon out. TFTC Jonignite.

This cache was the goal for a group outing today with the whole team novo crew, the_garbageman, GeoIan, MadRabbitohs and myself. Beginning from the new gate at the intersection of Warrawalong Road and Walkers Ridge Road, we headed disconcertingly downhill until the final steep climb up and around the mountain.

The weather began closing in just as we arrived so we didn't get much of a view from the summit, although there's a nice vantage point with some distant water visible partway up the climb.

Upon reaching the summit, the_garbageman and I bashed our way through the stinging nettles and blackberry vines to reach the cache, only to discover there was a much easier passage on the way out. The cache contents are rather damp although we were still able to sign the log okay. I took the Dalfonteiners' Backbone TB.

As the drizzle started, we all gathered for a group photo before heading back down the hill.

Many thanks for the hide in this impressive location.

The full team novo out today along with barefootjeff, the_garbageman, GeoIan, MadRabbitoh, and their son to do some caches around the Olney area. We did some homework for this one and thus knew we were likely up for an approx 5km hike from the junction of Warrawolong Rd and Walkers Ridge Forest Rd, up to the tower, and then back. Us C4 cachers came up from George Downes Dr through Mangrove Mt and the HAVOC crew came across from the Watagan Forest Rd to meet for 1pm. Got there and yup GATE; on foot it is. I think that the word was that the junction is ~300 elevation and from there Warrawolong Rd undulates down to around just above 0 and then the last 1.5kms goes right up to about 640 elevation so the last bit was certainly tough going.

It was a great day of meeting new people, talking caching, getting in some good exercise, and enjoying the remote forest sights and sounds. Everyone did great including the kids! Forecast today was 50% chance of rain this morning and ok this arvo so we didn't expect to get wet. Once at the top (~2.30pm) we found the trig with its vanes lying on the ground nearby - looked like they'd been there a long time. The trig mount was in pretty good nick though. Us novos had a snack while some went for the cache and some started climbing the tower. A normally deserted area suddenly a hive of activity. The gate to the tower was open but we discovered the door at the very top was padlocked so those of us that made the climb got ALMOST to the top! Once there the views were ok just that it was COLD and it had indeed become overcast. In fact we could see the rain coming our way - another reliable forcast! Back down to claim the find where we unfortunately found the cache in poor condish with a damp log but we all managed to sign it ok, discover a few TBs and dip some others, and replace as found. No ammo can here just a sistema. Just as we grabbed a team photo the sprinkling began and we braced ourselves for a wet return journey but thankfully the sprinkling stopped after about 5 mins and we were fine until in started again about 20 mins before journey's end. It never turned into rain though thankfully.

The trip back was a lot easier going lol but the last 800m or so I think we'd all had enough! Back to the cars at around 4.25pm just as it was starting to get dark. In saying all that though I want another excuse to get out here real soon. Cheers jonignite for an enjoyable day in an amazing location that we would have otherwise not have experienced. Geocaching does it again!

Received a notification of an impending expedition on C4 FB page. Sounded interesting, and challenging, but after reading and researching the cache, thought it may be in the quite difficult to do category, especially with my level of fitness. I replied to the FB page, saying so, but got back an encouraging reply that all are welcome, and its not a race, so I decided to drag madrabbitoh and Haydos 101 along for the adventure. As all good plans go, we arrived at the meeting point at 12:02 and not seeing any cars without motorbike trailers, figured they had left at precisely the allotted time, as stated in the post. It turns out we were first there. We had a quick look at the planned first cache of the day, and not wanting to miss the main event, decided to keep moving onto Tower Power meeting point. I did study the GC map the previous night, and again tonight, but it still does not look right compared to the actual. I just glimpsed the wallerawong Rd sign as we drove past, expecting it to be heaps away, and not actually on Walkers Ridge Rd. Funny thing is that Haydos 101 was actually having a laugh at some of the interesting names of roads up here, and he noticed it as well. So we stopped, I checked the garmin, and still not being real sure, we turned around and headed back to the intersection. Looking right, I spotted the tower, atop the hill, on the other side of the valley. Pulling into the intersection, still thinking we are in the wrong spot, thinking maybe we need to be on the other side of the mountain, The Garbageman pulls up in his car, and the "Is this the right spot" question was asked. OK. Been a big adventure so far. The physical stuff was to come. As mentioned in other logs by my companions, there was a big downhill, then undulating, then a bigger uphill following switchbacks, till we found the summit. Phew, now that was hard, and yes, I am very unfit. The views were a little disappointing, as that was to be my main goal for the day, As the trees are growing back, and also the amount of misty rain around. Cache was found, duly signed, then replaced. Team photo taken, a spot of lunch for some, some sight seeing for others. Then the big descent, undulating terrain, then a climb back out again. Glad the intersection is in a saddle, and not at the top of the rise next to it. I keep thinking of the Co saying that the gate was ripped off, when they placed it, so you had it pretty easy. Not like you I am sure Jonignite. I would have loved that gate to be the current starting point, but alas it is not, as the Forestry have placed one at the intersection with Wallerawong Rd, which is a long way from your stated Co-Ords. Maybe these should be updated. Thanks for bringing us to this spot Jonignite, I love the locale. Maybe, access from the other end of Wallerawong Rd????

A great walk in company with Team Novo, GeoIan, BFJ, MadRabbitohs and myself. I wish we were able to park at the old waypoint but it seems the new gate is here to stay. A quick find once up the top. Rain came in while we were up the tower - sadly the viewing deck was locked! Arggh. The view was somewhat inhibited by the rain too Sad still, was glad for the exercise. TNLN TFTC

It was another day of perfect Autumn weather so we decided to head for a bit of walking. Since there is a locked gate at the beginning of Warrawolong Rd we continued further along and turned off at Murry's Rd. We drove up and left the car where the GNW starts and heads towards the Mountain.

It was an excellent walk following the GNW along the ridge and down through the valley before reaching Worrowolong Rd where we continued left to the top of the mountain. The track got very steep towards the top after passing the point where the old gate once was.

Arriving at the top and admiring the fire tower we were excited to find that the side gate was unlocked and we knew we just had to climb it. It was an awesome experience being able to climb it with really amazing 360 degree views from the top, something I don't think you can get anywhere else. We also liked the mapping out of the landmarks on the tower roof. Back down on the ground we headed off into the bush to find the cache which was quickly located in quite a nice spot. The log is a little damp but still writable and the cache could do with a new pen (we didn't have a spare). Thankyou for bringing us to this mountain and the great adventure. TFTC!

While procrastinating, I mean studying possible future cache trips. I came across this fire tower cache. Now I love fire towers and collect a lot of information on them, that can be seen at

www.firelookoutsdownunder.com

so I just had to come and visit this location.

It had been a little foggy at the start of the day so started cacheing closer to the east and about lunch time decided the weather was clearing up for me to attempt this one. Of course I got distracted along the way.

All the gates where up and locked so the closest I could get was 1.6km by gps reading and up very steep hills after going through a valley. I reckon I walked about 10km in total with a very sore knee that considerably slowed my pace. Especially since I had barely walked in the previous 3 months that the knee had been injured for. So even though I got back to the car in the dark and barely able to bend my leg, I was very pleased with my achievements.

At the summit the cache was quickly found or at least the contents where, that I have now placed in a new sistema. The record book was damp but should survive. If the next person wants to take a replacement, that would help.

I also found an eagle feather, but I had the task of hand of photographing and climbing the fire tower. Very pleased. Looks like they are strengthening the base of the tower and where soon to lay some more concrete.

Obviously a favourite just for brining me here.

TFTC Replaced container.

Well... Didn’t this turn into an awesome adventure! I was excited to choose this cache for my 100th. But since I was in charge, it didn’t happen without a few navigational challenges!
The first trip up to the Watagans (yes there was more than one!), albeit ill-prepared and with what turned out to be a lack of knowledge of the area, we reached the beginning of Warrawolong Rd (off Walkers Ridge Rd) where the newest restricted access gate is and set off on foot. We followed Warrawolong Rd for a couple of km’s, which is crazy clay/mud after a bit of wet weather (I have to admit though, I had fun trekking through it and watching the others slip and slide) until we reached the first left GNW turn off. Followed that up and around assuming it would take us to the top of the mountain... It didn’t. We came to an awesome steep rocky 4WD track and climbed up it, assuming it was the right direction... it wasn’t. So we scaled back down and got back onto Warrawolong Rd. By this time it was getting dark so the decision was made to head back to the car, recollect our sense of direction (or lack thereof rather) and give it another shot on the weekend.
So from here we decided that we should drive a bit further around the mountain and see if we can get in from a different direction. We didn’t leave as much daylight this time (rookie error #10 or so). So we turned off Walkers Ridge Rd and onto Murray’s Forest Rd and followed that around until we found where the GNW crossed over. So we set off on foot again and turned up onto the GNW, following it along a rocky ridge and then down a really steep and slippery valley (where we disturbed a snake)... but heading down hill wasn’t exactly our intention at this point, we thought we were going to find ourselves climbing the mountain from this trail! Wrong again. But we followed it down anyway thinking it may surprise us and start inclining. But instead, lo and behold, we ended up back at the exact same point we got to initially when heading up the GNW from the bottom on the other side. At this point we accepted the fact that we had no idea after all and that maps are actually a really good one. So back to the car in the fleeting light and a new game plan to look up some trail maps!
So, third time lucky! After walking around those few trails multiple times already, one glance at the map and I could see what we needed to do. So we decided the best place to start was from where the GNW crosses Murray’s Forest Rd. But instead of following the GNW to the right this time, we followed the trail (The Bar Trail according to maps) that led straight ahead and where did that lead us... to the rocky 4WD track we found the first time! So essentially, we had gone round and round in circles on the side of Mt Warrawolong, but hadn’t actually gotten to the singular dirt road that leads directly to the top. So we then followed the track down until we hit Warrawolong Rd and kept going until we saw the glorious dirt track with the old hinges of what was once a gate and knew we were on the right road, finally! Increasingly gorgeous views the whole way up and all smiles upon reaching the top Smile Straight to GZ to find the famous cache. Unfortunately though, the ammo container is missing and there’s only the plastic ziplock bag left with all the swaps inside and a fairly damp logbook. Managed to sign it and put it back in place (sorry, I should’ve brought a replacement with me).
Of course we couldn’t leave without climbing the tower for the views! (Luckily the side gate was unlocked). It was amazing up there, loved how the different surrounding mountains were mapped out on the tower’s inside ceiling perimeter too.
Thank you so much for this experience! For the many important caching lessons learned, for the adventure through a beautiful part of the mountains, for a new favourite spot and of course for the milestone cache Smile Definite favourite point from me.

We tried to get to S 33 02.390 E 151 16.141 but found a gate at a new location S33 03.390 E151 16.362 where I took 2 photos showing that some spaying had taken place, we proceeded by foot any way as my gps showed that we should cross the "great north walk" and that surely wasn't closed! The old gate position was found, it was removed except for the post. We finished up trekking 11.5 * 400 meters = 4.6 km from the parked car. We made it to the top, not before a torrential down pour, soaked right through we found the GC and signed the log with TOMBI! son.

After spending the night at my parents house and wanting to go for a drive BillHill531 and I finallly left and were having lunch at Cooranbong around noon. We drove past a few other caches and headed straight to this one, well almost. There was a shut gate in the way near S33 03.390 E151 16.361 and so we kept driving looking for another way in or around. Our car GPSr's showed another track on the other side of the hill if we went a bit further. We tried driving, but the track was two small after only a hundred meters, so we parked and started walking. After another hundred meters we had a view of the mountain we would soon be climbing and before that a big valley and a pretty bad looking track. It would have been a fraction shorter (length wise, not time or energy wise) but we decided to go back and walk the long easy way from the gate (as we would not want to drive out here for nothing). We parked at S 33 03.390 E 151 16.361 and started walking. I did not measure it, but the GPSr said 1.6km to cache and we definitely did not go in a straight line, so well over 2km each way. The first section was slight down hill, then it was almost all up hill, especially the last section. Then halfway up the track (a bit past the old gate's hinge) it decided to start to rain (cold rain), we did not get much notice, so when we did notice we knew we would never get back to the car dry, so we just continued on. The rain was very refreshing at least and cooled us right off after our nice walk. When we reached the tower we were soaked right through as the rain was pretty heavy. We walked the last section and it took us a lap to find the container (neither of us could see very well as our glasses's were all wet and/or foggy). We stood around and talked for a bit before the rain moved on and all we could see was blue sky again. We then signed the log, but we were still dripping wet, so smudged a bit. Kept the container pretty dry though. Now we could return to the car, but this was made more difficult/dangerous by the wet slippery ground. If we had planks of wood we could have skied down. I was hoping we would be dry when we reached the car, but we were only about 50% dry. Near the tower I scratched my leg on some of the weeds and they made my leg go a bit numb. I got home around 6.
Thanks for the great walk, refreshing shower, great sized container and broken views!

Whilst lunching on Mt Warrawalong with the GNW (Great North Walk) crew, it was great to show them all about Geocaching. As they were searching I quickly pointed out the cache, sitting in the perfect spot in the tree. GNW leader wrestled with the box, cutting his finger on its lid, but very excited to get it opened. It is in a wonderful location with spectacular views, so with tower climbing and geocache finding we had some great lunch activities on our way to Newcastle on the GNW. Thanks for the cache. TNLN.

Today we joined up with Chippyroo to grab some loose caches around the area.

We manage to find that the gate was unlocked today.....as someone had ripped it out of the ground! After the 5km of track up to the tower, the Cache was quickly located and signed.

I left a Pathtag for the next brave soul. We climbed up the tower as it was unlocked, took a lot of photos and enjoyed the view. Thanks Joniginte!

After Having a friend bail on me for other activities, a free day was on the cards, so what else to do but go CACHING!!!!! A call was made to Team Senz to see if they were up for a combined attack on a few caches that's were in the area.

Upon arriving at the access track to the fire tower we came across the locked gate that prevented our entry last time we were in the area. This time however I thought I would test the gate with the bulbar. I gave it a little nudge and surprisingly the gate swung open. Someone had previously ripped the gate out and had dummy locked it to make it looked locked. As we weaved our way down and up the hill, we commented to each other that it would have taken us a long time to walk the distance to the cache, so we were glad the GEOLUX made the trail easily. Upon arriving at the tower a quick walk was made to GZ, we found it out in the open but seeing as you had to bush bash a little way in, no one would think of going down here. We returned to the tower and decided we couldn't leave without a climb up the tower. A few photos were taken, and then we were off onto our next target.

Thanks Jonignite

Missed this one a few months ago when we were up here. Didn't think we would be back, especially so soon, but walking from the Basin campsite to Mt Warrawolong campsite would not have been complete without ducking up here ;o) Man its a steep hill. Plenty of sore thighs after this day out. Thanks jonignite for an excellent cache in a fantastic location.

A nice crisp winter's day walk. Left the car at the intersection of Murray's Rd and Walker's Ridge Forest Rd and then followed the Great North Walk until the road left to go up the mountain. Then decided to come back a different way and thereby circumnavigated the hill. Some very boggy trails on the way back though courtesy of trail bike riders who have chopped up the trails. Couple of muggles on top of the mountain. They drove up, looked around and drove down again.

Its been a few years since I last walked up here and I was thinking I could leave a cache here, only to find it's already been done.

A lovely view all around. I can recommend the walk - its so much nicer than driving up. You can also leave the car where Warrawalong Rd leaves Walker's Ridge Forest Rd. Its about 4 km shorter that way. There are other ways to get to the top as well but these are the easiest.

TFTC. I left Buzz Lightyear behind.

After camping in the Watagans for a few days we saw this one and knew we had to do it. So off we went in the Honda-CRV and Suzuki Grand Vitara. With mrnoo17 having the map in hand we started to climb up some pretty steep hills. To our amazement we were able to drive right to the top of Mt Warrawalong (had to type it cause of its cool name) due to the "locked gate" which was still locked but unhinged and thrown aside.
The first thing we did arriving at the top was let the dog out and then climbed the fire tower (geomum as well although it seemed unwillingly) which was awesome. Inside it was equipped with a wheelie chair and a table! After enjoying the views we climbed down to find the cache. After getting satellites we headed off through the bush getting stung by the stinging nettle on the way and soon found the obvious but well placed cache.
Signed log and took 2 TB's to move on. Afterwards climbing the tower again to have morning tea before heading off again for a great drive.
A definite favourite for me.

What an awsome spot. What seaeagles said about our adventures on the highest mountain in the watagans, Mount Warrawolong (yes, i felt like typing it too!!!) pretty well sums up my coments. Although he didn't finish the story. we went up again this time with rice crackers and chock chip cookies!!! we took a couple of photos of us eating them and then felt like kings looking over our dominion while feasting. Thankyou so much for bringing us up here. TFTC!!!!!

Found this evening at 5:20pm. Gate well and truly unhinged, so we were able to drive right to the top where the gate to the tower had also been forced. We enjoyed looking at all the interesting vegetation and carefully inspected a couple of trapdoor spider houses.

I don't think we have ever seen so many Scotch thistles all in the one place! One of the crew was wearing shorts, so found quite a few stinging nettles along the path also.

Thanks for this one!

Nice trip up here today, had not been to the top here for over twenty years. We came to the area to get the tower and numbers 4. Soon made it to the GZ and had a quick look with no success. Then I remembered rule 17 "make no assumptions" the cache was then quickly in hand. Only just managed to get this one before total darkness set in, so the trip back down was done in the dark. All in all a great time was had by all. This one gets a Fav point for geographical significance fo being the highest point on the GNW. TFTC.

Our 5579th overall find.

OK, it is official I must be insane! This evening was getting sillier by the second. MV and I started this evening at about 8:30 pm wandering around (read off) Mt Sugarloaf. after about 3 hours we decided that it was time to call it a night. That was until we solved a nearby puzzle and thought it would be a good idea to drive out here! I can tell you I sure am glad I could drive to this one. If there is any camera surveillance, I'm sure they will be looking at the footage, wondering why at 1am, two blokes pull up, disappear into the bush for 5 minutes and then come back again... I'm sure the views are nice but it was just a whole lot of darkness.

Thanks jonignite for the cache.

Reperio at 1300. This was published in a timely manner as I had planned to head out to the Watagans this weekend, so with today being such a good day, I decided to head to this one as well. Always enjoy the walk to this location, and today was no exception. No sign of wriggly sticks today, but certainly saw plenty of wildlife on the walk up to GZ. Once at GZ, I enjoyed sitting down under the shade of the trees to sign the log.

Left a number of GC's and TB's for the next finder.

Gratias jonignite. Another great spot and walk.
