Logs
Have previously found just one cache at the car park so returned today to do the walkway. Happy to have found all five. Saw lots of Tui which are feeding off the flax at present. Thanks for an enjoyable bit of exercise. Cache and log all fine here.
A number of years ago I stopped out here with a plan to grab all the caches on the property. For reasons I can no longer remember there were three that I did not locate that day. I have also never made the effort to return to clear the slate here. However, today I was itching to get out for a walk and, with the Tararua's swallowed by rain cloud yet again, I decided to finally tick these three caches off. While the carpark was experiencing a bitter wind and a few specks of rain it was lovely once in the bush. A short walk got me to GZ and a cache in great condition. TFTC
We were heading off from Castlepoint to Martinborough today and I spotted this area on my geocaching map. A nice break from the car on a hot sunny day and the bush was very pleasant. TFTC
Quick find at the most obvious place using the hint. Nice in the bush today with none of the rain originally forecast but sunshine instead although not much penetrates the canopy.
Missed the side track to here, so I headed down the bank while D waited above. A well covered cache
We had picked up the_jinx this morning for a shared caching run out to Rewanui Forest Park, since none of us had done any caching here. As we approached the item in the title he was the first to make the find. I, however, was the one to retrieve it as there were many, many spider webs blocking access. After we all signed the log we replaced as found, put on our packs and continued our hike.
Thank you for the cache.

Yesterday, I was having a hectically busy day at work and I couldn't wait to get home and rest my legs for the next few days. But then I got an invitation from 3Prettys to go on an geocaching expedition with them and this was an opportunity I just couldn't pass on. So this morning they picked me up and we headed Southeast towards Rewanui Forest Park where neither of us had been caching there before.
After a bit of confusion on where the trail began, we made our way down it to the big Totara tree and around. When we got close enough my phone chimed and I instantly began searching. Maybe a bit too soon though as I started looking around a tree that wasn't even a Totara. Then Mrs 3Prettys pointed out a bigger and more Totaraer tree and I mentally slapped myself. How did I not see that!! We walked to the Totara and we all then began our searches, after a small look around I was able to spot it. I was unfortunately met with thousands of spider webs though and I was not going to put my hand in all of that, so I asked Mrs 3Prettys to use her well-equipped stick to take out all the webs and get to the geocache. She fought the webs well and was rewarded with an easier route to the geocache. She reached in and grabbed the cache only to find it to be grossly sticky from all of the spider webs that she had just defeated, but once opened it was good to find a nice and dry log in there (all the webs probably gave it quite a bit of shelter). We signed it and then attempted throwing it back in since there was still a good amount of spider webs in there, but after it kept falling back out to us, Mrs 3Prettys braved the webs and carefully placed back in its hidey hole. TFTC!

One of 20 caches located today, mostly between Masterton and Castlepoint. Found five in the forest park. Reasonably easy find despite having to reach under the extensive cobwebs. Impressive specimen of tree! #1404. TFTC.
A weekend away with the family, visiting various spots in the Wairarapa, so what better to do than nab a few caches that happen to be on the route. Mostly good weather and the roads not too busy made for some good caching.

After spending a fair bit of time at the previous two locations, I was pleased to quickly find this cache which meant I found all the caches on today's agenda. What a grand specimen this is!
I am really pleased I decided to take on these caches today. I highly recommend other caches visit here for a few hours of geocaching.

#2647. I have been planning on another big day over in the Wairarapa for quite a while. But a series of wet weekends put paid to that idea. But today dawned bright and sunny. So at last a chance to pick up a few solved puzzles and challenge caches, as well as a scattering of traditional caches. Rewanui was high on the agenda today so I could pick up the skindo A-Z cache. I had planned to walk all the tracks here and find all the caches. But the shorter days at this time of year meant I could only pick up a few today. Will have to come back another day to get the rest. This one was a nice quick find. Signed the dry logbook and replaced the cache as found. What a massive totara. Thanks for hiding the cache here.
On a 6 day road trip with sveppi. Day 4: Masterton-Castlepoint. Stopped by Rewanui for a walk, but after yesterday's mammoth effort on Mt Bruce the legs were feeling it so we ended up only doing the short Tawa walk close to the bottom. Nice tree, easy find not where I would have expected though. Nice to see private land owners getting involved with conservation and allowing the public to access these little pockets of native bush.
Nice loop track on a nice bit of bush. Just planning on completing the smaller of the loops. Very hot day again. TFTC
TFTC. The last of the finds in the area this morning. A beautiful spot, and I will have to come back! Wow the spider webs were impressive - but not sufficiently thick to prevent me accessing the cache. 540m back to the car to add towards the DGSC challenge tally.
Found on a sunny afternoon caching trip into the Wairarapa with Emvy_Us and Waiiti 20. Great drive in the country. A great specimen this one, wonder how the assessed the trees age? TFTC
A magnificent old specimen, thanks for sharing with us - one of the joys of geocaching. TFTC skindo, #8306
Found while cruising with drawp and Waiiti20 on a very pleasant afternoon/evening in the Wairarapa. Fantastic area, and a shame that it looks like it is seldom visited. TFTC
Was on the wrong track at first, so bush wacked easily enough.

Tracked my route with OSMTracker, and will upload gpx to OSM.

Continuing the winter season of caching on a very pleasant Sunday.
Big old fella this one. Worth the walk in to get a gander at this. Cache find was straightforward.
All in order, log signed, safely re-hidden.
TFTC found with team cacher Sweet P too
The Turtle strikes again!

Beaut Sunday for a caching walk. Beautiful old tree. walked straight past to begin with as co-ord had us 18mtrs off but reread cache name and spot became obvious. Love finding these old men of the bush will give a favourite. TFTC
Tracks all over the place here, so weren't entirely sure we were going the right way, but turned out we were.
GPS was cutting in & out a bit, but was fine at GZ.
Left a pet rock -a dog. TFTC

Out for a late afternoon foray in the Waiarapa primarily to do the caches around the Rewanui/Mt Clyde walkways. Leaving carpark at around 5:30pm I had a very enjoyable stroll around all the loops and watched a very nice sunset from the lookout before returning back to the vehicle in the dark via the bush tracks.
A nice easy find even in the dark. TFTC

Day 2 of our weekend out caching. First time ive been down in the wairarapa area, got around 100 over 2 days, thanks Skindo.
Decided we had time to walk up to this one, and check out the old tree.

Quick find. Had planned to come to come to this Forest Park last Saturday, but had to return home..... With four additional new caches in the park, I planned a big day today in Wairarapa. Thanks to Skindo for bringing me into this forest. Sixty caches for the day. TFTC.
A fairly quick find as we headed along the Totara Track before starting the Matai Track. TFTC
Nice to get a smiley on this one after having given up when the original co-ordinates were 60m off. Lots of ongaonga around now so be very careful. Full body cover is a good option. There was a tree down across the track not long before the totara but enough room to squeeze underneath (watch out you don't brush against the ongaonga though). TFTC
What fantastic totaras, a real privilege to visit such a wonderful reserve with such old trees. Absolutely loved the area. TFTC
Came here towards the end of a day's Wairarapa caching trip to clean up a lot of caches that were either recently published or that I had missed on earlier trips. The GPSr had me 25 metres away when I came to what I thought would be the most probable cache location so I looked there anyway and turned it up very quickly. Signed log, TFTC!
Note: watch out for the ongaonga (NZ stinging nettle) on the track, there has been a lot of recent growth of this. It's not severe getting to this cache but there's a lot more of it on the way to some of the other caches in the park.

First on the loop, got away early enough for the sun not to be too hot,
quick find is always good too.

Having completed a 4 1/2 hour walk for three FTFs up the Upper Ruamahanga River our next stop was the Rewanui Forest Park. Found the cache at the entrance, looked up the hill and thought 'Why not?' Walked on up to Totara - and yes that is a good specimen. Thanks.

Fairly quick find when I checked the logs and saw the suggested co-ordinates. Would suggest you change to them as they are much closer. SL TFTC
Phew, eventually found this one! It was definitely in a more logical spot than my GPS wanted to go. TFTC
First To Find. GPSr was only 60 meters out!!! Easy find.

We spent a long time hunting around for this one. The gps was jumping around a bit so couldn't even get a definite fix as to what side of the track to look. It was a lot further away from the Totara than we expected "near" to be, and the clue wasn't of any help. Went and did the other caches in the area and came back for one more look, but still nothing. Good luck for the next cachers.
