Mt.Vesuvius- Pompeii Ruins Campania, Italy

Stopped at the ruins on the way to Sorrento. Did a nice guided walking tour in the heat. Not as many people as Rome which was a refresher. As I am writing this log I am debating which pic to use - the one of my better half with a Roman good luck charm in a Pompeii street or something else. Only the log will tell.

Great day in Pompeii. Had a guided tour in the morning and intended to go to Vesuvius in the afternoon. Spent so much time here, Vesusius will have to be another time. Made the observations and made mental notes. Answers sent to CO. Always enjoy an earthcache, but this one more than most. TFTeC and greetings from Newfoundland, Canada.

For the first time ever I am traveling through Europe, enjoying the journey with my friend SmokinDeni. We have joined up with a group of other cachers from Canada, the U.S., and Peurto Rico who are enjoying a cruise on the Mediterranean (logging as MCGA2018). Today a few of us explored Pompeii, while the rest of the group were off on the cruise ship making their way to Athens. Pompeii is a fascinating place, and I'm happy to have been able to explore part of it. I feel like I could use a full day here to see everything! Thanks for bringing us here, and TFTC!

Eigentlich war kein Besuch der Ruinenstätte fix auf unserem Plan. Vor allem wollten wir eigentlich kein Geld dafür ausgeben. Aber als liv auf der Satellitenkarte erstaunt bemerkte, wie unglaublich gross die Stätte ist, wollten wir es uns vielleicht doch gönnen. Und das taten wir dann auch. Und es hat sich durchaus gelohnt! Überwältigrnd und eindrücklich. Ein Tag, den wir wohl so schnell nicht wieder vergessen. Sonst mag ich es nicht, wenn für Caches Geld ausgegeben werden muss. Aber hier kann ich es verstehen.
Die Stätte hat uns schwer beeindruckt. Danke fürs Herlocken!

TFTC. We are a family of nine travelling together from South Africa. We stopped for a few hours in Naples and came to see Pompei. Amazing place. Thanks for placing this earth cache.

Together with sainai I visited Napoli.
We´ve seen many things, visited "old stones", new arts, stunning nature, unique beaches and yummie pasta, pizza and sfogliatella.

On this day we travelled to the old city of pompei.
This is a fantastic place with so many things to discover.

Hello from North Dakota. Pompeii is the last stop for my wife and I on our 10 year anniversary Mediterranean Cruise. Very Impressive and humbling city to walk through and our guide, who happens to teach at Naples university, was outstanding. TFTC!

Found it in the pouring rain! I've never been to Pompeii when it was as wet as it was today. It clarified a number of things about how the streets are built.

On our ship cruise we came to Pompeii today. With our tour guide we passed exactly the place of this Earthcache. So I was able to answer the questions and this cache became my first find in Italy.

#11416: Second find of my European trip! I did a 7-day cruise from Barcelona and the first shore excursion took me here. The tour guide was walking and talking through here but i was able to get the required information. Many hundreds of muggles about on a crazy day in Pompeii.

We had an amazing time in Italy, and visiting Pompeii was on our bucket list of places to visit. While we spent most of the day there, we could have spent longer. The ruins that have been excavated show us so much of what life was like almost 2000 years ago. Frescoes were beautiful and there were many homes that were elegant. Thanks for creating this earthcache. We met some French cachers and chatted about this earthcache. It amazed me how many times we met cachers while at Gz's. Caching brings the world together! This gets a fave from us!

Während unserer Amalfi/Sizilien Rundreise haben wir auch Pompeji besichtigt und dabei diesen interessanten Earthcache besucht. Wir waren von den Ausgrabungen sehr beeindruckt. Obwohl ich schon zum zweiten Mal hier war, habe ich noch Neues entdeckt...einfach großartig!

A very, very interesting site to visit. Thanks for the cache. It learned me things I did not know.

Mein Fund Nr. 14401.Dies war der 12. von insgesamt 14 Caches die ich heute gefunden habe.

Meine Frühlingsferien verbrachte ich dieses Jahr in Italien, es waren abwechslungsreiche Tage am Meer in den Bergen und auch in Städten. Caches hat es nicht viele im süden, aber dafür schöne Landschaften und gutes Essen. Viele geschichtliche Orte wie Rom, Cumae Pompeii und viele andere habe ich besucht sowie Naturphänomene wie Geysire und Vulkane oder Höhlen. Negativ aufgefallen sind mir die völlig überteuerten Touristen-Hospots sowie der Abfall überall an den Strassenrändern je weiter man südlich geht, auf dem Land war's etwas weniger schlimm. Insgesamt waren es aber tolle Ferien.

La mia vacanza primaverile che ho trascorso quest'anno in Italia, è stata una giornata varia dal mare in montagna e nelle città. Non ci sono molti depositi nel sud, ma bei paesaggi e buon cibo. Ho visitato molti luoghi storici come Roma, Cuma e Pompei e molti altri fenomeni naturali come geyser e vulcani o grotte. Negativamente notammo i turisti-Hospot completamente carenti così come i rifiuti ovunque sul ciglio della strada, l'ulteriore verso sud, nel paese era un po 'meno cattivo. Nel complesso, è stata una vacanza fantastica.

A l’occasion d’un voyage scolaire en Italie, je profite de mon passage aux différents lieux de visite pour logger quelques caches. Ainsi, entre Rome, le Vésuve, Pompéi, Ostie, Tivoli, puis de nouveau Rome, j’aurai réussi à logger uniquement 3 caches traditionnelles, mais aussi une quinzaine de earthcaches.

We had a wonderful day out in Pompeii, and despite not having enough signal to read what we needed to do here, we still had enough to see that there actually was a cache at this intersection! So we took many photos, and when we returned to the hotel we used these to solve the questions! Fantastic place for a cache! Favourite point awarded.

On easter day, Svinter and I decided to visit Pompei. We spent a whole day walking through the ruins, and finding some of the caches!

This eartcache is placed at a very nice spot in the ruins, we managed to find an answer to all the questions, and these have been mailed to the cacheowner.

Ever since I heard about Pompei in school, I wanted to pay the place a visit - and finally I am here! With Snabelabe on holiday. We took the train from Vietri, where we stay, and decided to dedicate the whole day to Pompei. It was a good and interesting experience.

This place made me think of many of the beautiful drawings of ancient Rome in the Asterix cartoons - TFTC

Secondo giorno passato di un lungo weekend in zona per festeggiare il nostro primo anniversario di matrimonio.
Oggi siamo stati a visitare gli scavi di Pompei, una meraviglia che ci ha tenuti impegnati per sei o sette ore.
Sembravano non finire mai. Lungo il tragitto abbiamo recuperato i tanti cache nascosti che hanno reso la visita ancora più speciale.
Tutti si trovavano in ottime condizioni tranne il traditional dell'anfiteatro dove abbiamo ritrovato solo un logbook pieno di firme incastrato in una grata. Ma credo che l'owner ne sia già al corrente.
Ne approfittiamo per ringraziarvi tutti per i cache nascosti.

Second day of a long weekend in the area to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
Today we visited the excavations at Pompeii, a marvel that kept us busy for six or seven hours.
They seemed to never end. Along the way we have recovered the many hidden caches that made the visit even more special.
All were in excellent condition except the traditional amphitheater where we found only a logbook full of signatures embedded in a grate. But I think the owner is already aware of it.
We take this opportunity to thank you all for the hidden caches.

We did not have much time as the site was closing soon, that's why we did not take audio guides or guided tour. We really wondered about raised stones and made up our own theories about them but it was this cache that required us to do some research and we carried it out with pleasure. We did not read the questions carefully enough while on site but luckily there were some photos taken and we could figure out our answers later. Found it together with P.Plostnieks and Superboy123. Thanks for the cache! FP

Our daughter worked on this Earthcache during her Student exchange.

"Found it" during a very short trip to Naples, Vesuvius, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. A wonderfully spent time with family in such beautiful places combined with a small geocaching.

Walking through Pompeii was fun (and on a weekday in January not very crowded - I wonder what the crowds are like on a weekend in summer...) and it was interesting to see things that were a good idea at the time (as in question one), but (luckily) fell in disuse in the centuries since, while other things (as in question two) are still found (sometimes) in modern cities as well.
Which is the real attraction of Pompeii in general - the mixture of things that wouldn't really look out of place today with things that look really strange now.

In this week I was in Pompeii and it was a nice trip. It‘s a very great place of historical interest and thank you so much for this cache.

Visited with the family today on our first trip to Italy. The kids loved jumping the stones in the street. Impressive how much of history is still intact. Thanks for the earth cache.

We visited this place during our Christmas journey of Naples and its surroundings. Interesting place.
