This weekend, I headed to the Yorke Peninsula. The goal was to visit Innes National Park for the Saturday to find a few of the oldie geocaches, but also to enjoy a different vicinity for geocaching. I used Edithburgh to base myself for the weekend's activities. On the drive to/from Edithburgh, I visited Ardrossan, Port Vincent, Wool Bay, and Coobowie, and also visited as far south as Sultana Point and Troubridge Point.
Today, I took the long route home back to Adelaide from Edithburgh, but did multiple detours along the way. I initially headed south to Sultana Point, followed by Troubridge Point; Two areas that I hadn't visited in all of my historical Coobowie Yorke Peninsula trips. I then drove north following the coastal route, stopping off in Coobowie, Wool Bay, and Port Vincent. A highlight was visiting the white clay mine just north of Stansbury, and it was a nice walk along the beach to get to.
After visiting Troubridge lighthouse, I noted that this archived cache was just a little way away, and irrespective of whether this cache was still here, I figured that seeing this anchor (or lack of anchor) was probably not a bad visit to make anyway. So I made the coastal drive here, and then admired the plaque, which was the only thing left here. I did some further research, and it sounds like the anchor was moved in 2015 due to the extreme erosion on the coast, and it needing restoration. The anchor has been placed in Edithburgh:
[https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-22/clan-ranald-anchor-returns-home-after-lengthy-restoration/5759930](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-22/clan-ranald-anchor-returns-home-after-lengthy-restoration/5759930)
I then started searching around GZ. The coordinates wanted me off the coast, but I figured that was silly, and a number of past logs indicated it was located at or near the cliff edge, and the coordinates were a little out. I used Skippy.'s coordinates to help narrow down where I was looking, and after 10 min of searching, you wouldn't believe it, but I found the cache still here! Quite incredible! To be honest, the cache wasn't in the best of shapes, and so after stamping the logbook, I've tried to place it back to help protect it away from the elements. Thanks Maps for the cache placement. It was just a shame that this old cache was archived unnecessarily!

Today was day seven of the ahomburg and sharkiefan 2015 road trip to South Australia. We managed to find all but one of the geoart over the last three days, so we had some unfinished business with Sammy Starfish 20. we also wanted to check out Innes National park and surrounding area, followed by some areas further north east in the Yorktown region and surrounds. We managed to pick up many Traditionals, a couple of Multis, the all important Mystery cache for the Souvenir on offer and even found an Archived cache in our Travels. Despite a bit of rain over the day, had a fantastic time, almost covering the whole lower part of the peninsula. This one is still in play and in good condition. Another great spot. Who stole the Anchor?

Wow! An oldie. We were doing the multi and it made reference to this cache which is of course archived. We saw a write note saying it was still there. It was. I am logging it with much excitement. Found with Ahomburg on our last day in the Yorke Peninsula. We are just taking it easy today and are driving around collecting finds where we want to. Tftc
Whilst at the lighthouse finishing the multi Clan Ranald GCT7XP we found not one but 2 containers. One was obviously the one we were after but the other one had a geocaching log in it but it had no cache name on it. It was in great condition and had another mint eclipse tin in it with a key in it.
We were quite puzzled by this second container but suspect we may have found your archived cache. Thanks.

Thought we would have a quick look as we were travelling through but try as we might we could'nt find it.
Not sure why this has been archived?? Had a bit of a look around (after reading the notes for Clan Ranald which said there was a cache here) and sure enough found it, healthy and well. Was wondering why it hadn't shown up on my search, and see now that it is archived. Last entry, not surprisingly, is December 2010. Should it be brought back to life?
When finding Clan Ranald1909 they said there was one here...went to where the anchor use to be
and thought we would have a look to see if we could find cache and we did!!

As we were passing by & knowing that we could not find it last time, well over a year ago, we decided to give it another try, to no avail of course now that I have checked it out! A great pity!
There have been a couple of recent non finds and the cache may have dissappeared, and as I will not be able to check this for a time I have decided to archive "What Anchor".
Thanks to all visitors, the Anchor may be relayed at some future date.

well, it was one of only a very small number that we didn't find. We are pretty convinced after exhaustive searching that thsi one is a bit like the anchor- not there.
There's no way this could still be there. It's not like the area is thick with bushes, and the bushes that are here aren't very thick themselves.
Enjoyed the drive but although we looked under many bushes we couldnt find it- is it still there?
More of a case of "What Cache?" We are no botanists, but we knew where not to look. Also this cache is wheelchair friendly, so stayed within those parameters, but as with Posspet, we could not find a cache. I doubt there will be any maintenance visit by the owner either, so we'll just sit this one out for now.
What a windy day lucky not to get blown away. Great views of the coast.
Took zebra and left a keyring.
Thanks

TFTC......easy find on a very wet and blustery day....great spot...as usual everything at Yorkes is a treasure to find. Took doll left zebra...
2006-10-19 00:00 Took about 10mins to find this one. Co-ordinates out by about 12 mts. Tragic story of the shipwreck. Took balloon left soldier & butterfly candle
This one took a while to find as well, My GPS was pointing out to see, after about 10 minutes and understanding what the hint was we had cache in hand.
Took Shark Keyring and Left Kangaroo

After 3 previous visits I was determined to find this one as it had started to really bug me. There was a spectacular thunderstorm offshore and about 10 big drops of rain!
Found when the muggles finally cleared. I think that they thought that there should be really more to see here since we were showing so much interest in the place.
Ya-hoo...finally found.

Team Hurtle’s “Clan Ranald 1909†cache provided the lead-in to this one, and we found the whole story of this fated ship most interesting (and more than a bit tragic [B)] ) Didn’t believe that it would have been placed over the cliff where the GPSr was pointing. Read the hint and had it in a second. Beautiful spot and area, in general. Took lots of photos, but nothing from the cache itself. Thanks Maps
Found at 5.15pm in the afternoon. Sent Ms Cache to the edge just in case it was dangerous. Late afternoon sun on the cliffs makes a great view from this spot.
Took Snail and left Shark Key Ring.

She's a bit windy out here today. Great spot and a dive site that we would love to visit one day when we are feeling brave. Took patch and left yellow car.
Found without hint by mrs voogoo, coords spot on. the wreck happened Jan 31 1906... we hope someone finds this cache Jan 31 2006. BTW what happened to the anchor anyway???
TN left: voogoofish badge SL.
2 weeks earlier on the beach photographed (attached) I was fishing at night and was stung by a stingray as I tried to release him from my hooks unharmed[B)]. that night I went to bed, had a seizure, rushed to yorketown hospital by family and friends, had another seizure and ended up in hospital for two days, followed by a week of recovery which I honestly cant remember!!! all of this was within site of this geocache (as it turns out)! we came back this week to recover some more and holiday as a family!of course I'm not allowed to drive till a neurologist checks me out so this could be the last cache for a while[:(!]

Needed all the clues as the coordinates were out over the cliff. Nice area with some stunning scenery. Thanks for the cache.

Second find for the day and went scenic way via LH road. Was quite busy nearby as surf was up but all clear near GZ. Took floating ball and eraser left bouncy ball and balloon. Thanks Maps
Just about to give up after a 15 minute search in the howling wind when Trev spied it. We used clues from the previous logs to help as the co-ords were well out.
Took pinball game and left floating ball.
Enjoyed the tourist drive with TRAK05 in tow. Thanks Maps.

GPS wanted me about 10m over the edge but having read the clue it was quite quickly spotted. A beautiful spot (is the anchor ever coming back?) and a just to the east some very interesting shaped bushes show the strength of the wind here. Fab thought it was a bit close to the edge especially if one had the kids along, but it didn't seem that bad to me! TNLN, cheers Maps.
Being the sure-footed gecko he is, G1 couldn't resist searching for the cache half way down the cliff. G2 was left controlling the geckolings up top. After a reasonable search we ended up with the cache in a nice safe spot. We took the frog, green gecko (one we placed elsewhere?), and soldier. Left lizard and some other things I don't remember. Our GPS was about 11 metres out on this one, on a day with good coverage.
Easy find, once the 3 carloads of muggle 'Nikon Gangs' moved on, we decided not to scramble down the cliff to where the co-ords said to go! Blowing a gale here all the time! Can be seen by the shape of the bushes. Have included some co-ords that may help. Left a patch TNSL
On to Port no Moor now...
On to Port no Moor now...
Pity I didn’t read the log before scrambling down the cliff face.
Without many hiding places it was amazing how long it took us to locate the cache.
Filled in the log TNLN. Then went and read the info board on the anchor.

had a pretty good look but we couldn't find it.
the wind direction and strength was a bit daunting as it was trying to blow us over the cliff. some new looking cracks were a bit scary too.
oh well, will be back, hope the anchor will be too.

Its still there, sitting save and sound under its cover. Took me quite a while to find it though as GPS was out by about 12m. Nothing matched the clue ther though so used some logic and there it was. TNLNSL. Cheers.
Had a fair sort of look for this one with no luck. Pretty sure I looked everywhere I should for a terrain 1 cache. Perhaps it's with the anchor? Cheers.
Arrived on YP armed with Waypoints but no access to previous logs (which could have given us more clues). Decoded the clue and presumed we would be looking for some sort of plant. GPS pointed 15m seawards from cliff edge - the terrain rating puzzled us as we scampered among the rocks (devoid of plant life). Tried on top too. Gave up in the end for we wanted to see other parts fo YP and other Caches. Good View - still had fun!

Our second one found. It has just begun!

When researching this trip, saw that Freddo had had success after arriving with picture of Coastal Frankenia. So I added one of these to my collection of bits and pieces required for the weekend.
Found the cache very quickly, the coordinates, and both aspects of the clue are spot on and could not have been described more accurately.
Still no sign of the anchor! But plenty of great views and a good lighthouse in the distance to check out. You'd think it was built in the 1800's as it is red brick, but it was built in 1980. A stunning lighthouse and good to see that until fairly recently somebody still recognized that you can build a new lighthouse as something more than just functional.
Swapped a sticker, a game and a gecko for a rubber ball and a chinese finger trap.
Thanks guys!!

A picture of a Frankenia helped narrow the search down a bit. At first, not sure whether to look at the top of the cliff or below. Lots of traffic along the coastline over Easter. Cheers,

This is a nice spot down near the heel of the foot. The views of KI were amazing at evening time of the day.
The locals were having fun with a big tractor tube in the water. I’m wondering how long GZ on the cliff will be there…. The cliff has a huge crack forming with the cache on the wrong side. Thankfully it held up for me! Another Cliff Hanger!!!!
TNLN Thanks to Maps.

Yessssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!
Armed with a picture of Frankenia and a beautiful calm day I was ready for action.
Still took me a good 15 minutes to find the sucker. In the end it was the picture that did the trick.
Thought the co-ordinates were a bit off. So I tried to get some better. 60m accuracy, 30m accuracy and 45m accuracy were the best I could get. So what would I know.
Not sure if this cache will be there forever as the cliff is degrading. Look out for the huge crack.
And by the way the anchor has still not returned. Reading the plaque I found a name I know. I will contact Dr Ian McLeod and ask him how his rusting experiment is going.

I have almost removed every stone on this location. Remembering of course to be envirmentally friendly.
No way could we locate the cache after an hour of looking. For a 1/1 this is certainly a real puzzle.
The closest shrub is looking a bit trampled so everyone should take care in this fragile environment.
I will keep an eye on this one and when someone proves it is still there I will attempt again.

Found by Klem's mob.
Took 2 clips and left Klem Bear.
Cold, breezy but sunny.
It is of concern that the vegetation in the vicinity is being damaged. Please note that the cache is not found by walking on the vegetation.

First stop for the weekend away. Found after a short search, first looked down the cliff, decided it was too trechorous for a 1/1, so looked in the easier spot, and there it was. Took dolphin keyring, left lizard. Thanks Maps.
What Cache? Looked for this one for simply ages. Over an hour. Up and down the cliff. Under every bit of vegetation in the area. Some of that stuff is prickly. Obviously I should have take that biology class in matric.
Still no anchor either. Must be still soaking out the rust bacteria.

Found the cache easily after a quick botany lesson and a few geological assessments. Surprisingly not windy. May need a name change for this site soon as it seems the anchor is not too far away (so they say). Noticed that the vehicle down below is a lot more corroded than last time we were here, it'll soon be needing to be sent away for treatment! Left a Detofinbar Dolphin and kaleidoscope in exchange for biro and sticky tape.

A cold windy day must be a Yorke Peninsular thing, it was 43 deg yesterday. I would have found this easily if I knew what a coastal frankenia was. Took the bottle opener and left the pen from 'cliff top panorama'
thanks
thanks
Must of had bad luck at this one, didn't find it! Searched all through the trees and down the cliff and in the holes everywhere, but never found it. Not too disappointed though, great views along the scenic route.
Found by Mary & David at 1345, our #300! Raining and a howling gale. Umbrella blown inside out, and thought David would take off. The lighthouse just down the road looked like a pepper mill. Took little pig figure, left a bottle opener from a Liz & Bruce cache in Victoria. Our thanks to Maps for showing us this spot.
Regarding the anchor - or rather, lack of anchor. The anchor was deteriorating very badly, and we recall it has been removed to the bowels of the SA Museum to be soaked in some sort of bath for two years. This will kill off the 'rust bacteria' (or some such thing) that will cause it to rot away to nothing, even if removed from sea air. We did think that a temporary plaque, explaining what is after all interesting information in itself, could have been put there.
We spent some time looking over the cliff very intently with binoculars, trying to identify the modern motor vehicle wrecked on the rocks below. Wondering how it got there. We established it was a 4WD (we could see the transfer case on the back of the gearbox), possibly a Toyota Hilux. If anyone ever gets down to sea level we would be interested to know what it is.
As for the cache, we took a bear and left a bear.

The wind was so strong today that we had trouble standing forget about trying to climb down to the cache. Found easily though. Left a clever Pig and took a snake.

Very windy and judging by the foliage it often is at this location. Great views, Bruce was getting ready to climb down the cliff before I spotted it at a safer location. Took the fish and left a bear. Thanks Maps.

Where the hell's the anchor gone ???
Didn't even see it on our climb down to the bottom of the cliffs. A well done construction job done by the brickies on the near by light house. Took nothing, left a brown snake.
