Today, it was the planned [Sand, Salt, Sun; Seaway Summer](https://coord.info/GC8K0CV) Community Celebration Event, and it was an opportunity to integrate a couple of other Gold Coast kayak adventures. My first stop was at Oxenford for [Gilligan's Island](https://coord.info/GC6YJ8B), and then it was a drive to Jabiru Island for a subsequent kayak launch. It was then a tiring 10.3 km paddle along Coombabah Creek targeting the *Float Your Boat* series. The last kayak stop was Wave Break Island, and a memory lapse had me arrive only towards the event's end, as I had thought it was an all-day gathering.
With the kayak packed away for the day, it was then time to visit a few strategic geocaches in the vicinity, which included a serious tree climb, a tough hide, and a strategic Southport boatshed geocache, before driving towards Sinnamon Park to meet the family. After a water park frolic, we then joined other Geocachers to close out the day at the [Squinterville Christmas Community Celebration](https://coord.info/GC8HK7K) Event.
I set out on this kayak departing from Jabiru Island just after 09:35 hr. As I mentioned, it was a total paddle distance of 10.3 km, with a moving time of 2:25 hr. I was moving with the tide/current heading upstream towards Coombabah Lake, but it was paddling against the incoming tide and winds that really made it a tiring affair, getting back to the island at around 12:00 hr, as per my [Strava record](https://www.strava.com/activities/8233820094). My last geocache of the series was found at 11:00 hr, so yeah, a solid hour paddle back.
During my solo paddle adventure, this was the farthest geocache that I paddled to before I was relieved to U-turn. I arrived at the large mangrove that contained the geocache with a reasonably quick find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape, and I did note that I couldn't find evidence of the last visitor here, with jebjeb's name the last finder in the physical logbook? Thanks Herbz for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. It was another strategic geocache with the *Boat required* attribute that was needed for the December month challenge. It was also nice to have found this cache with 565 days [18.6 months / 1.55 years] of unfound love since its last find on 25/05/2021.

Hammering this series... another find, all good the wind is killing us, though struggle we must
Muggle65 and I continued to push into the wind. We were very happy that we would be wind assisted on the way back but the wind turned and we pushed into it all the way back. Sigh. Cache is in good order. Thank you so much for placing it. You rock Herbz
It was nice to get some exercise. I had not been on the water in a kayak for some time, so it was a perfect excuse to get some exercise and grab a few caches whilst we were at it. No-one else out today so social distancing was not a problem.
This was out fifth cache for the day.

Nice to get out on the water and do some exercise. Nice paddle to this one, which was last on the list. Very quick find and we didnt get muddy. This area reminded me of Jacob's Well but on a much smaller scale. Now to paddle 1.5km back to our launching point. The water is very shallow in these parts. Definately do these caches at high tide.
I was so close to this one so I couldn’t not get it, so headed here from 5. Another great little island, and a great spot for a cache. Happy to say this one is safe and sound. TFTC!
Its been two years since my last trip in this waterway with muggle son and today he decided to bring me back out for an early Mothers Day present. We had a fun filled day with lots of laughs with a beaut picnic lunch on the tinnie and grabbed a few caches in the process. After hiring the boat in Southport, we headed to this cache first and then worked our way back out. Nice size container which was easy to spot although logbook was very damp to sign but neat hide here.

Geohubby had an RDO today and it was my day off. He likes kayaking, I like geocaching, so what better choice for an adventure...we're off to float our boat!
This turned out to be our last Float Your Boat cache for the day, but it was a nice easy one. Thanks for the series Herbz, this one can have a favourite point because we had such a lovely paddling adventure

Out and about in a hire boat collecting some water caches Lots of laughs, lessons learned, and stories told. I was told the first letter of each of our names was used to make the team name WADERS which is very appropriate because there was lots of that going on today!! I had such a fantastic day, thanks to team work, and great COs, thanks!
The WADERS (Selva Girls, stortigirls, NeverSayDi, E:), Mr RoddyC and EatSleepCacheRepeat) hired a boat for a day on the water. This one was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC
Out on a hire boat with the WADERS (Wanda, Amanda, Di, Elena, Rod & Sam) today to claim some water caches and some good terrain ratings! Lots of fun and laughs as sandbars, mud baths (damn soft sinking mud), songs and stories were enjoyed by all. Thanks for the opportunity for a great day out on the water Herbz and Tftc!
With a bunch of really awesome geobuddies- and we now call ourselves -WADERS-, for today anyway! We found it! A nice easy find! Thanks for the cache!!
Was here with the WADERS Team today (selvagirls, stortigirls, neversaydi, roddyc and eatsleepcacherepeat). Hired a boat for the day. What a glorious day with wonderful company.
Been longing to put a smiley on this area.
Was a quick find.

We are back at the Gold Coast for a week, visiting family & time to get away to do some geocaching.
Today was the perfect day to get out onto the water. With my brother as skipper we headed out along the river. Tide was still a little low so we had moments when we finished up on sandbars.
Thanks for placing this cache Herbz

Almost twelve months ago we first mooted the idea of boating up to do the T5 caches on the northern Gold Coast waterways. Over the last few weeks we settled on today to ire the boat, but somehow it grew to three boats - a party of , including DiamonJS, Rusty85, Team Benders, Crew 153, Nadine1989, Temingi (from Yeppoon), Vennfamily and Patrol14. Our first port of call was Float Your Boat 7, ending up with the GCPT - Humpback Whale.
After the disappointment of the DNF at #7, we were happy to follow the tide out as it began to turn, and move back down the Creek to this cache. It was by contrast, a quick and fairly easy find. What a funny sight we must have looked - a virtual flotilla of boats excited about something hanging in a solitary tree! Geocaching in a group is ALWAYS fun!!!
Found at on 20th April 2016. TFTC.

I went together with a couple of other geocachern with a boat to different T5 geocaches and we started our day with this one after we couldn't find float your boat 7...
RoddyC had put out an invitation to join them on a day of cruising around picking up caches in the area. I jumped at the chance to find these caches as I had been hanging out for an opportunity since they were published back in 2011.
9 of us met up at Mac's Hire Boats and Southport and piled into 2 tinnies equipped with 6hp motors and I was allotted a seat in the silver streak with the DimaondJ family. It was soon apparent that the silver streak was going to outpace the yellow sand bucket and we enjoyed the calm water cruise for the hour trip to the entrance to Coombabah Creek and then headed inland with No 7 as the target.
We met up with Patrol14 and Team Benders who had a speedy 30hp tinnie that they had launched from Jabiru Island and followed them up the creek.
I took note of the others in the series as we passed them by and after spending time fruitlessly searching for No 7 we turned around to find the ones we had passed on the way in.
This was the first for us to find and the 3 boat flotilla. It was a quick find with a number of calls of "I see it" from the boats.
TFTC and now on #5.

While out on the high seas for a spot of plundering (cache finding), our merry band of sailors* motored to this outcrop and our lookout spotted the treasure and the cache was retrieved.
Logbook signed by all and returned.
Now to get back into the boat without carrying a bucket load of mud with me.
This is going to be an interesting day...

Out on a high seas adventure with our 3 boats. I Team Benders was in a group of 3 teaming up with patrol14, and then there was a boat of 4 with diamonjs, Rusty85 and Crew153 and then a 6 seater with RoddyC, Nadine1989, Termingi and vennfamily as they called the yellow sand bucket but I called it the yellow submarine. After having no luck at the multi, it was great to make a find here. We had the faster boat and soon we were pulling up near the cache. All the others pulled in beside us to sign the log.

RoddyC extended an invite to me a couple of days ago for a spot on a hire boat to collect some T5 caches. We rocked up this morning at Southport and we were introduced to the plastic bucket, as coined by Mr Patrol14, - a large, yellow, plastic thing with a 6hp motor which was to be our transportation for the day.
I was given the job of pilot and told to head north. A long way north. I think it took about two hours for our plastic bucket to reach Lake Coombabah at it's top speed which was well below the posted 6 knot speed limit. We had to watch as the other hire boat disappeared into the distance. How they didn't collect all the caches before we got there I don't know.
This was the second cache attempted after a failure at the multi. I overshot the mark and had to come back around. Meanwhile, Patrol14 and Team Benders snuck in with their 30hp aluminium boat and made the find.

We had discussed doing the water caches with the RoddyC's for sometime then a date was set for Rusty85's birthday as something different to do to celebrate, and then some other invites were issued to make up a group, as Venn Family have said one boat was slow one was a little faster and well the other looked like a jet boat in comparison to our two but anyway we cache as a group so some waiting around was had but a great day was what we were after and the caches certainly had us laughing at some of the antics to retrieve by a variety of those on board. TFTC Herbz we had never been in this area before.
Gotcha !!! An invitation from RoddyC to join a crew of pirates on a raid of treasures hidden around the Gold Coast waterways was very welcome. Hopped out of the hammock before 5 bells and set sail for Crew153's anchorage to stow away for the land trip south to pick up " The Yellow Pearl " or should that be Peril ? , our Pirate Ship for the day. Think she needed careening as we were the slowest boat in the fleet of three. Still Captain Blair or should that be Bligh did a sterling job of navigating the Good ?? Ship through the treacherous shoals and sandbars to the hidden treasures we were seeking. Didn't find any treasure but we left our marks " X " in each of the Treasure chests we found.
Thanks to Capt. Herbz, Capt. Terror and the other pirates that hid the treasure chests we searched for.
The day was an eye opener for me. .A Fav. Pt. from me today. Thanks to all involved.

TFTC I have had these on my to do list for ages. Perfect autumn day on the water.
We were out for a day of caching with barbbowman, FastEd59 and bubba89 trying to increase our difficulty / terrain average to 1.9 It is slow going, but we know we will eventually get there Even though it was an overcast day and we had to make our way through a few showers, we still had a very enjoyable day out, mostly on the water.
After finding a few nearby caches, we soon launched our boats for the main event for the day. We admired the scenery as we made our way along this part of the river system, taking care to keep watch for areas of shallow water to avoid running aground (we only did that once or twice ). On arriving at ground zero, we were able to locate the cache easily and with our names added to the log book, we were off to continue our adventure.
Thank you Herbz for having placed the cache and maintaining it for everyone to enjoy

Krissy and I were quite excited to get the kayak in the water. I borrowed jemilalucy kayak for the day so I was a little sceptical wondering if it would be heavy all good we were the first in the water and we paddled around waiting for everyone to get in the water. It was quite a trek to this cache but we made it lol. Krissy and I went passed the tree but with misssusan close behind she spotted the cache. Tftc
Out caching with the Tough Mothers crew and their kids (Misssusan79, Bennyboppers, Remsjw, Lisylou, Hot Wheels Duo, KrazyKrissy, Geokidtobias, Geokidmaddison, Geokiderica and Geokidlexi). It was great weather and a lovely afternoon to go kayaking. I was very excited to use my new blow up kayak that I got at the sales at BCF this week. It was quite a long stretch to get to this cache (probably because we forgot to get Number 7 along the way). Oops! TFTC!
Tough Mothers got me out on the water again this fine Saturday afternoon. We weren't exactly floating but made it to GZ, er WZ.
Found with the tough mothers, geokids and company. I used my double blow up kayak and me, my 2 girls and my cousin visiting from the Netherlands piled on and headed for this cache. Great weather for paddling in a beautiful area. We reached this cache and misssusan and bennyboppers grabbed the cache. Tftc
Our first find today in the Float the boat series. We dropped by number 7 to grab the coords and paddled to 6. We followed the tide downstream to make paddling easier. Didn't take long to find this one.
Actually our first to sign for the day, pleased it wasn't too hard to find.TFTC.Herbz.
A boating adventure today with 22 out of 23 found (2 unloved) with Gulliverstravel54, cantcachus2014 and i. Starting our day at the runaway bay boat ramp (630am) we only had a small window it find 16 of them before the sea way was in a lock down at 10am as the 1st Xcats power boat championship was here on the gold coast and we didn't want people watching us while we were finding all the hides. Out of the area and clear of the lock down but 30mins we headed north the find the others, low tide up this way played havoc and killed so much of our time up this way. tftcsl
Find #3556 Today we had aquired a vessel with which to collect some T5 caches and our team Of Gt54, Forbiddenground and Cantcacheous 2014 set of early this was the one of many TFTC
Went out today with Gullivers Travels54 & Forbiddenground to finally clear off these caches and turn them into smiles. Some were easy to get to, others were a bit tougher. We all hade a great day and adventure. Thanks to the CO's for placing these caches. Tftc
Today was a mix of Gilligans Island, Patrol Boat, McHales Navy and the the 1983 Americas' Cup. Lots of had with a group of friends out in the bay with a penchant for geocaching.
We had mechanical mayhem, leaks and lateness, injuries and incidents, wet and windy, sandbars and scratches.
We enjoyed the series that took us from Jabiru and wound through the mangroves south to our final destination.
Thanks for a great day Herz!

It was a cautious approach to this one as the water was shallow around GZ despite the tide being just about full on high. With the end of this series in sight we managed another find with yet more initial added to the log. TFTC
It was time for fleet maneuvres and the Float Your Boat series looked like just the spot to put Admiral Seff's fleet through it's paces.
With Admiral SeffnJarah and his brother, Admiral (ret) Mark, in command of the two fleet vessls, the small flotilla ventured along Coombabah Creek, finding caches and battling with the mud, mangroves, shallow water, and even Herbz's over protective guard dog.
I stepped ashore here to undertake the duties. All in good order. Onwards to the next one!
Many thanks to my ship mates today. Thanks for the cache, Herbz.

No problem spotting the cache but stumbling through deep squelchy mud made the going slow. It was quiet up this end of the water with only a couple of fishing boats out of sight. It did occur to us with the tide due to come in, it could be a long tiring row back but we continued on to No7. TFTC Herbz.
Out on a southern adventure with Orange Crew and Luke from Slow Puncture and boy were we in for a day of surprises, ending in one of the worst storms in 30 years!!
I manage to find an easier, more graceful way in which to get in and out of the Bullet by now, (how does one manage to do this gracefully!?!?)
Not having to wait to balance on a tree to disembark, I managed to make the jump as we approached GZ. Off I went in pursuit of the cache while Mr Crew navigated the Bullet into a docking position and Mr Puncture grabbed a docking item to steady the journey in.
While they were docking I managed to make the find, sign and return the cache and began to head back. I waited for them to disembark before telling them that I had already made the find and they could get back in again!
Luke made an observation about the storm clouds in the distance and we rechecked the BOM. Everything still looked good for us at this stage so we kept on moving!!

Today, Team Armenia set out for an excursion to the Gold Coast, primarily to attack Wavebreak Island, Terror Island, South Stradbroke Island and Coombabah Creek in Orange Crew's powerboat (tinnie).
Why Team Armenia? ORANGE Crew, Team DNA (of RED Rocket fame) and Slow Puncture (of BLUE Thunder not-so-much-fame). Know your vexillology, people (Yes, I did have to look up Armenia's flag...).
It was at this point I spotted the genesis of the thunderstorms that were later to cause trouble for some of South-East Queensland later in the afternoon. Picture attached.
So, this one was a bit different! Being high tide, we got as close as we could. Angela went for a wade whilst we went around to the other side of the island slowly by boat. By the time we got there, Angela was already appearing, having found and logged the cache!

Out and about in Coombabah Creek for a boating adventure with Slow Puncture and Team DNA. Another quick grab, we were glad to be out of the wind here. We have enjoyed this series, brings me back to a place I used to catch seriously good mud crabs. TFTC
I had been bugging Captain Terror to let me borrow him and his canoe to grab these caches. I have been attempting to get my average Terrain higher and this was definitely a great place to grab some higher terrain caches. After a slight fail yesterday we were out on the water this morning and were making our way slowly from cache to cache.
If I had thought the last cache took a while to get to I had no idea what to call the length of time that it took us to get to this one. At first we miscalculated the GZ and headed to the trees behind GZ. Oh it is back over there... lets reverse out and try this again.. we had three attempts and got the boat stuck twice before we ended up next to GZ with the container within reach.
With my name in the logbook we replaced the cache as found and once we were safely away from all things sandy we headed off to check out a waypoint. Thanks for the cache Herbz.

I have hired a Kayak for the week-end and was going to make the most of it.
After an outing yesterday I was all set for another outing today.
I teamed with IolantheK again for another adventure.[^]
With the tide coming in (we thought) we decided to head all the way to end, number 7 first.
We soon discovered that the water was still leaving the creek.
As we were passing I stopped in to grab this one.
The second in the series for me with only a short walk in the mud.
Thanks for the cache.

Staying with family in Oz, luckily Brad has a boat so wow lets find some caches.
had a great time looking for these, spotted a few mud crabs and dropped some crab pots.
we was nearly up to our waists in mud a few times as the tide was going back out and had to get wet to manouver the boat... but hey thats all in the fun.
Even had a swim in the creek to get cleaned up after taking the boat out of the water nice strong current was swimming and getting no where.
Brad said " Crazy Pomme " i know its you winter and its too cold for you guys hahahaaha.

A day of geocaching with our friends the Couchmen started. The weather was not looking good but finally we just had just some drops.
After No 5 we decided to go on the land to search some shelter from the storm. We found a small shelter for Mme Dhobi, so Mr. Dhobi went to search some leaves to boost up the shelter, but he only found some kangaroos. Since the storm didn't really came we headed on to No6.
Thanks Herbz for this cruise, and Couchman for sailing the boat

These water caches have been sitting at the top of our unfound caches list for so long because we couldn't get hold of any sort of water craft with a motor.
It would have been nice to think we could borrow a canoe or kayak and paddle our way around but when reality bites we are just too old and unfit to even attempt it.
I had never been out on a houseboat and Geo Wife had only been on one once quite a few years ago so we had the idea of combining a houseboat holiday with a caching adventure.
Our next problem came when it wasn't possible to take the boat under the Jabiru Island Bridge, we solved that by hiring a motor for the tender and getting special permission to use it up the lake.
We invited our caching friends the "Dhobitock"s to visit it us on the boat for the day and they jumped at the chance of picking up the "Float Your Boat" series.
The weather forecast was not looking good with possible showers and thunderstorms but that wasn't going to deter us.
Geo Wife sent us off with her blessings, so all provisioned up we headed off from north of Jabiru Island.
The storm had passed by us without affecting us at all so it was a nice straight run from the mainland to the island for No 6.
This one was quickly found and all safe and sound.
5 out of 6 and the tide had finally reached its way up the creek.
Thanks Herbz for taking us on this cruising adventure.

This was the sixth of 8 caches today out on Coombabah Creek. I didn't realise until now that it was a 12km round trip. With just a kayak and paddle Im going to be sore tomorrow. I headed out from Jabiru Island and thankfully it's high tide.
A couple of fishing muggles were really close to this one and I thought I may have to grab it on the way back. I spotted the cache as I got close and as luck would have it they caught a fish. So with them occupied I quickly grabbed it, signed the log book and replaced it before they had finished rebaiting. Thanks again Herbz for another great hide. Such a cool series.

I passed the ranger's boat close to this one. Hopefully they will be occupied on the shore until I am done. There were lots of birds near this cache
Well, with boats on hand and a willing accomplice, not to mention having just found the seventh of this series, naturally we had to grab the remaining series! Captain Terror gallantly provided the craft and the company, and I provided the...ballast? It was pretty cruisy out here this morning, and such a gorgeous morning to be out oin the water, too. Loads of birds, a few fisherman, and a pair of happy geocachers. We misjudged GZ slightly and had to do a bit of a U-turn, but found it without too much hassle once we figured out where we ought to be looking! TFTC, Herbz. =^.^=
After nabbing an FTF on Float Your Boat 7, La Kedi and I decided to head out and grab the rest of the series. Launching from Coombabah Lake, we were to do them in reverse order and meet up with a car at Jabiru Island.
Herbz gave me some instructions to find the start f the channel and we set off. With only 2 on board and the outboard with the taps wide open, we zipped along, towards this one in good time. No other traffic on the water and such a wonderful area to be in this morning.
As we neared the cache, I looked at the GPS and made an assumption as to where it was and followed the channel in before cutting the power and it was all paddle power. Because of my bad guess, we had a bit extra work ahead of us, but the location was obvious, water shallow and bottom sandy, so we bailed out to sign the log. We had somehow forgotten a pen in our hurry, but thankfully the pen in the cache saved the day.
I am already loving this series Herbz and the second of 7 favourite points coming your way. TFTC

IolantheK and I hired a 2 man kayak from Roscoe Brisbane to try out our boating skills on the EKKA P.H. We could have picked a better tide as this cache series are easier to get at during high tide, hey but we still had a fun day.
We launched at Daisy Elms Park Boat Ramp at Coombabah. After collecting "Float Your Boat 2" we headed down steam to "Float Your Boat 1". We then decided to go all the way to "Float Your Boat 6" and work out way back via the other caches to our launch site. This took us some time (over an hour) with occasional grounding and me pulling the kayak over a sand bar or two [:o)]. We eventually arrived located the cache (more mud) and dutifully signed the log.
Now for some food and water, and more paddling to get to "Float Your Boat 5"
The cache is dry and is in good condition.

My geospouse T-Tech and I have a mad kayaking and caching day coming up soon, so we figured we'd better get in some practice This series seemed to meet all our criteria for today's outing: not too far a drive to get there; an easy launch spot; doable within 10 kms of paddling; and a tidal area, but somewhat sheltered as it is a little further back from the coastline. We put in at Daisy Elms Park boat ramp at 10:30am as the tide was going out.
Number 3 for us. We paddled all the way from 1 to 6, and it probably took us an hour and a half, as we were going against the outgoing tide, and we had to tow the boat over a few sand bars We were a bit worried as the cache marker seemed to be in the middle of the river, but as we got to GZ we knew we had a worse problem and that was the tide was almost at its lowest Squelchy, squelchy mud!!!! Once we found the cache, we had our lunch break, then set off to find the other 3, this time with the tide on our side. TFTC, Herbz.

More shin deep mud and how about the mangrove sucker that stick up between your toes!
KateRX, DYLTA! And I all got a smiley for this one today, last one in the series and good to have them all marked off now. The water was freezing but we had to make the most of it while DYLTA was visiting with his ski.

Great to finally finish the series, we chose a perfect day for it. Wow, that mud is deep! TFT series Herbz, a favourite point well deserved.
nice easy find on a beautiful Easter Sunday out in the boat. Boys wanted to go boating and girls wanted to go geocaching so we decided to do the boat series of caches. Thanks Herbz for keeping the peace. TFTC
Our last one in this series. Thanks Herbz for a great set of caches. It has been a great few hours on the water way. We have enjoyed the view along the way. A favourite series.

Our last one for the day. Once again Stairman1 offered to get his feet wet . Another great hide and a wonderful series finished. Lucky the weather held off and there weren't too many water craft around. Thanks Herbz
The last of the caches in the series for us today. Bloody Radnoski had said previously it was 300m further.. more like 700m But there was no way we were leaving this beast behind. We finally pulled up at GZ and found the cache safe and sound and in good condition.
Our trip back was a bit taxing with the currents. None of us are "accomplished kayakers" but we slowly but surely got back in the end. By our reckoning we rowed about 8km or so. I hadn't rowed that far since I did "Noah's Zoo" in Hayes Inlet. My arms were sore, but not too bad. Despite the liberal use of sunscreen, my arms a very slight shade of red. Would have been worse without it!
TFTC Team Herbz - and the enjoyable series I had discussed with Radnoski that I would have a hard time picking which ones to favourite. I have decided to favourite them all. It's gonna take some hard caching to get those favourite points back

Last one of the series of "Float Your Boat" caches for the day.
A great paddle up the creek with Fangsoki and the Cow and heaps of fun.
The GZ was protected by some small cache guarding spiders and one of the little fellows hitched a ride with me and popped out in front of me during the paddle back.
Thanks for the cache and the series Herbz. Heaps of fun and great exercise.
Now for the paddle back to the car. We did the sums and we had covered about 8km in total and most of the time the going was pretty easy and there wasn't too much in the way of strong currents.

I just could not leave this one un-found for so long. Grabbed my plastic kayak ( I figured I would not have to paddle that far, so left the 'real' one behind) and headed off-trying to find a close launching site proved rather problematic so I ended up paddling a longer that anticipated trip-it was great with the current , but the wind and tide were against me on my way back.
Anything for a FTF though.
Thanks again for the series (to date ?)
