[#403] Another awesome cache in the area! It was quite an adventure to get to GZ and to make the grab. We basically gave up on our way down. But as we turned around and retraced our steps, we found the right path and pressed on. Then we saw a special structure at a beautiful coast with a secluded little beach nearby. And where was the cache??
Emilirondelle's log has the full details of the adventure.
Definitely a favourite point again. So many given out on this day in this area! TFTC!

Please see my log below, and the four photos.
Cache container was missing, only lid, log sheet and pen found scattered around. Cache is still there as we added a temporary container (a medium ziplock bag) and new logsheet but the cache will need a new box container.

Will perform a maintenance when I come back to Hong Kong in Nov. Thanks for the info.
Wow, this was an adventure. After visiting the caches at the tip of Cape d'Aguilar, we thought we still had the time and energy for this one. The trail started off OK but we got sidetracked and lost in a heaily overgrown jungle full of hungry mosquitoes and the remains of ruined buildings. In fact, what we took must have been a very old path because it did lead to a very old set of steps which turned out to be a dead end. We decided to give up and turn back, but when we regained the clearer part of the path (which was still indistinct) we realised we'd just taken a wrong turning, so we carried on down and eventually (after some more confusion) made it to the shore. The ribbons helped.
And what a reward when we arrived - a stunning and surreal scene of natural and man-made combined, and what looks like it would be a very private and secluded small sandy beach! But the challenge wasn't over. What seemed like it should have been an easy find turned into a detective hunt as we found first the lid of the cache stuffed down a crack behind some stones, then the pen, and then the logbook scattered on the ground (which looked like they had been there a very long time!). We did not find the lower part of the container but we noticed some quite fresh cement had been plastered over parts of the historic pillbox structure, probably as part of building maintenance, and we think the cache might have been removed when that happened.
We put together the items as best we could and added a new replacement log sheet in a fresh lunch-sized ziplock bag as a temporary solution, folded it carefully and tucked it in to a little gap (fitting the hint) near where we found the scattered items. I think this cache can definitely continue but it will need a new, solid container to use instead as a more permanent solution than the current one. Perhaps some maintenance could be done or the next cacher could bring a small box.
Will add some photos of all of this later.
This surreal yet peaceful scene and interesting little bit of history definitely deserves a favourite. I hope this cache can continue a long time!

Hello Cache Owner:
I'm checking up on caches that have had the "Needs Maintenance" attribute set in case you didn't see the "Needs Maintenance" log e-mail come in or you didn't notice the "Needs Maintenance" attribute that is currently displayed on your cache page.
In many situations, you may have already performed maintenance and the cache is all right. If that's the case, you can clear the "Needs Maintenance" attribute (the red wrench attribute and the white cross in the red square) from your cache page by clicking on "log your visit" and writing an "Owner Maintenance" log.
If you haven't checked on your cache since a cacher wrote a "Needs Maintenance" log, please do so soon before falling leaves and snow make maintenance more difficult.
Clearing the "Needs Maintenance" attribute when your cache is all right keeps your cache page accurate and will potentially brings more cachers to your hide since some cachers filter out caches that have that attribute set.
No further Reviewer action will be taken on the cache UNLESS there additional issues such as an extended string of DNF logs or a "Needs Archived" log.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks very much to my muggle friends for accompanying us to visit this site. Otherwise, we may not dare to try it. [:p]
The weather is fine today! And the route to GZ is not as difficult as expected, though we do need to explore the correct route at one spot. The last part look a bit scary to us, but we all feel great after we overcome it.
The GZ is fantastic! Especially the stairs. Great fun! Real joy! Thanks for taking us there! TFTCSL.

[596] Easy found.
The trail from the road to the GZ seems maintained by local hikers. The hikers red ribbonare easily be seen, the trail is not very over-grown, traces show some grass was cut recently. But near 50 metre from GZ, need rope to help me went down to the slope.
I wonder why a pillow box was built at the site where is so isolated and exposed. Anyway, wonderful view.
The log book was dump but could sign on.
Thanks for bring me here.

Revisited after nearly two years.
Very enjoyable and worth the effort to climb down.
We had our lunch here and chilled out.
Thanks to the Stockholm Greystones for showing us the pronunciation of "Lufsig" in Swedish.

Wonderful cache find on our Christmas cache outing. Tricky to find some parts of the path, but very much worth the effort! Took photos, had a mini lunch including Lussekatter (Swedish saffron rolls) and logged the cache. Many thanks!

I have scaled Ben Nevis to grab a cache, and that was EASIER than this one!
The start of the path wasn't to difficult to find, and it was fairly relaxed for 5 mins... then it branches off, then it branches off again, then again... soon I realized that there was absolutely no way that I was going to be able to make it back the same way.
I was seriously dehydrated, and sun stroke was kicking in.
I just kept hacking my way towards the sea, in a hope that I could find another way back.
I eventually found the pill box, and it truly is one of the single most spectacular GZ's that I have ever seen.
If you do tackle this cache, prepare well. Take water, take food, grab a stick to cut through spiderwebs.
I'm sure I took a wrong turn at some point, but regardless, this is isn't an easy grab.
Thanks for setting it up and for bringing me here - as I said, it is a phenomenal GZ!!

Wonderful location AGAIN! Just like Cape Collison, we are stunned by the beautiful view and the pillbox. Took many photos here and we even climbed up to the top deck of the pillbox. It was fun!
And of course, this is another instant favorite cache for me! Just couldn't have enough kunchiho caches! Hope CO can publish more caches later and show us some interesting places.

I think this is one of the most beautiful place in Hong Kong. Favourite point given sure.
The small path to GZ is not so accurate in OSM. Trust your direction-sense and you will arrive GZ.

Thank you for bringing me to this place. Astonishing view!
Part of the path is hard to recognise and are required to do rope climbing. Be careful.
After going up and down to hunt those geocaches,
I was exhausted and maybe that's enough for that day.
Should bring an energy bar with me next time.

What a beautiful spot .. So peaceful!
Easy find once I negotiated the slope!!

Great cache, never would have found this spot otherwise; totally worth the trek. Path pretty easy not too overgrown
This was beautiful - JUST LOOOOVED IT! I've been having a great cache streak, lately! Was driving by from Shek O, and spontaneously decided to go for this one.
Agreed with cachers below; come on a dry day, I'd imagine it being much, much more difficult under damp, and therefore slippery, conditions.
Path was easy to find, and fairly easy to stay on track. So if you find yourself going awry, through loads of spiky/bushy rocks/plants, you're probably took a wrong turn (like we did). I'd say it's definitely 'recognisable' more than overgrown; it's a good path, and ends in a gorgeous bay.Seeing GZ strikes awe.
Exploring GZ itself is pretty nice! The room on top is actually quite nice and has good views, and would be great without all that debris.
Algae in rock pool near GZ is bleaching now, given the recently warming weather. I can understand why Cape d'Aguilar is protected. It's stunning here. On the way back from GZ, we saved a fish that was flopping about in a shallow rock pool. Good luck, fishy.

This was a brilliant cache. Found it with fellow geocachers, Hiddenanna and Filiz. We drove down to start of the path as there is no public transport there. Path downhill was dense with vegetation...pillbox at GZ was intriguing, as there was a noose hanging down from the roof. Beautiful views, and a great spot! We saved a fish floundering in the shallow waters.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Came here before attending the CITO cache nearby. Found the path entrance easily. Descend to the GZ is not a problem. The most difficult part is the last few meters which is very steep.
Cache is a easy find but no luck to enjoy the scenic view here because of the misty weather.
Thanks for bring me here. TFTC!

[420] Thanks CO for organizing the first CITO event in Hong Kong nearby. After joining the event, some of us came here for claiming our smiley. It's really an easy found cache, Agito and I almost spotted it at once. But we came with a team, of course we need to share the happiness with other geocachers. Therefore, we decided to let the other to pick it out for us. Guess...who is our Hero.....

All thanks to kunchiho's CITO event, we get the chance to visit this pillbox [8)]
If not for the CITO, we do not believe we would visit this place as the location is obscure and the terrain can be demanding
Although the hike down to the GZ is challenging, we were rewarded with a very pristine and secluded beach
The panoramic sea view around the pillbox is also very beautiful

Easy find indeed. After a pretty challenging path down. My geokid held up most of the group, thanks for your patience! Very interesting site, but pretty hard to get to. Perfect combination with the CITO at the nearby blow hole. TFTC!
Lucky to find this nice spot together with the CITO event group. The hike to this coast part was great fun, even with rubber boots. TFTC!
Nice to meet the CITO event organizer. His caches have always been challenging and located in interesting areas, and those in Cape D'Aguilar are no exception.
I haven't been to the area before and that was a wonderful hike. We enjoyed the ruins, light-tower, blow-hole, whale skeleton, rock formations and had a nice gathering of geocaching friends. We should also be proud of themselves for helping cleaning up the area a little bit: polyfoams, water tanks, bottles, and even an old tire.
The weather was wet, making the hike even more challenge. The cape must be awesome in nice weather.

I don't think I will hunt for that geocache without the CITO gathering. The arrangement of the CITO was so great.

Did a CITO event organised by CO and soon after all the awe there we came to this 4 stars terrain pillbox and it was pretty awesome! It was a like playground for the grown-up!!! and for kids too!
The group size was 17 which is down from 23 at the CITO where some folks had to leave for something urgent!
I was the last few arriving at GZ and after spotting the cache I just say "I COULD NOT FIND THE CACHE!!!" just like the rest of the other folks on GZ! lol!! And guess in the end who found it and retrieved it for our signing. We quickly did all that.. yes in the rain!
Spent the next 15mins doing a group photo! And it was all hilarious doing that! It's a great day out at this area and all that would not be possible with the CO planning and guidance!!!

Found it on a CITO event to Cape D' Aguilar marine reserve. It was a tough one getting to gz in the wet weather. Wearing a converse shoes made it felt like a terrain 5! But getting to gz was totally worth it . Lovely place and can see Stanley across the sea!
It was quite a challenging descend to the cache especially in the wet weather. The view was nice with the pillbox remnant.
My 50th Cache! A Quick Find After CITO Event!
What a difficult descend to PillBox! Especially In Rain!
Nice SeaView At PillBox! Even climbed up to explore PillBox! Wondering why PillBox is still "well-preserved"in this coastal area! TFTC!

This is my favourite pillbox so far
It is so well-preserved in a pretty exposed location!
The most memorable part is to slip through the slopes in rain and not really knowing am I in the right direction! Luckily, the cache is a quick find.
Returning to the main road is much easier than I have thought. Overall it is an exciting experience. I would not be brave enough to get to GZ alone!

Thank you for place a cache right here, long time no visit to this place[8)].
Spare time to visit this defense post only a few days after 70 Anniversary of the start of Pacific War.
Believe the same day of 70 years ago, this pillbox had filled with troops & machine guns, since Battle of Hong Kong still in progress during that moment.
TFTC, T(1)GC
P.S. Terrain = 4 may be over rated, also D'Aguilar Battery was located at coast line, but not centre of the ridgeline on Cape D' Aguilar Peak.

The launch date of the cache is 11/11/11 (per this website), the Remembrance Day and this cache is hidden right at a WWII Relics, as a tribute to all those who sacrificed during the wars defending the country.
I also dropped off the Red Remembrance Poppies Geocoin here to pay my tribute to those who bravely defended Hong Kong during the WWII.

P.S. This one is a pillbox (no. PB33a), but not Cape D'Aguilar - Battery, the real Cape D'Aguilar - Battery within the Cable & Wireless (now PCCW) radio station area and not accessible by public.
