Last summer the idea was born to visit [Green]'New Zealand'[/Green], together with [url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url]
After some important decisions regarding the beginning of our trip, the flights, the general route and the car were made, the most important question was still unanswered: which caches can we visit during our tour [?]
To get an answer for this topic I was fetching almost every cache from both islands [8)][:X]
[url=http://coord.info/PR3NXJG][red]'MimiNemo'[/red][/url] and I love [Teal]'Geo-Arts'[/Teal]...so we added all these cache series to our wish list
After this decision was made this list was more than 300 puzzle caches long...unsolved puzzle caches
Two weeks before Christmas it was getting time to start solving all these mystery caches
Even with the different language I could find almost every solution
In the case I was not so successful I was contacting some of the CO's...and was always getting help from them...many thanks for this support [:X]
During the following weeks our cache list was growing and growing...meanwhile more than 1000 caches long...too long for a simple bookmark list from GC
Time to get our route and caches in sync...time to save the PQ's to our Garmins...time to start this holiday:
Chapter 24: [green]Thames[/green] to [red]Warkworth[/red]
After we could see the highlights of the [Navy]'Coromandel Peninsula'[/Navy] we had some caches with higher T-ratings and some older caches at our agenda [:X]
This tree climbing cache was one of them
We needed only some minutes to place our rope...and some minutes later we signed the logbook
I would like to thank all the cache owners for showing us these great places and maintaining all these caches,
Dev46

Had planned to spend today with HKCB & JDM99 tackling some of Auckland's tree caches. After an unsuccessful attempt to locate X's Strom cache, and a challenging set-up & climb at another location, we were feeling a bit disheartened as to how many tree caches we'd manage to complete today. But, after a straightforward 3rd tree, we arrived here with more confidence &, again, pleased to quickly spot the cache & a lovely tree. Didn't take long to get the throw-line where we wanted it & again, wasn't long before all the gear was in place & we were able to sign the log. A beautiful spot & a highlight when a Tui stopped by to watch what we were up to, probably wondering what we were doing in his tree. TFTC.
Up in Auckland with K69 and JDM99 tackling some of the tree climb caches and some solved puzzles. With a nice straight forward climb on the last tree we were hoping for more of the same. Luck was on our side and we soon located the cache and had the gear in place shortly after. Basked in the sun while CB made the climb like a pro and added all our names to the log.
Dam hard cache , we didnt give up though rush and I. Completed on form ! Rope used for this.
Epic effort with Bjock today. Made loops in my boats anchor rope and spent a while getting it over a branch. Eventually had the cache in hand... I dont reccomend our technique. LOVING the tree caching!!
Out to practice our newly learnt rope skills after the event cache yesterday and start building up some experince for the taller tree caches around.
Like dh1saj says, the part that took the longest is getting the throw-rope over, and only just over, and not over a whole lot of other stuff. That done we rigged up. For the record, being a cheapskate and not forking out $250 for a gri-gri & jumar just yet, we used a double-rope technique using with self-advancing blake hitches see link here... http://www.newtribe.com/documents/tip2.htm
We got all 4 members of the GreeBLAT team up to the cache and GreenBlat sgned the log.
A few things we learnt today
- the Blake's hitch works better for the lighter climbers as it tightens up lots with extra weight so not only are you fighting more 'gravity' but a whole load more friction and then you really gotta use foot loops which makes it slow to climb dealing with the prusik
- If you use a 'biner between a lower prusik and leg-loops, use a screw lock as spring-lock can open slightly and clip onto... a body part protuding from the harness which you really don't want to be hanging from a tree by (ouch!)
- you need to remember about the challenge co-ord number in the cache *before* you have packed up and are driving home onto the motorway on-ramp
Thanks for setting this one up - we had fun.

After checking today the cache. Have decided to remove two logs as they were not logged in the logbook
Tree #2 for this evening, and also the last one for today.
As usual, getting the rope into the tree is more tricky and time consuming than the actual climb.
However, with some luck the second attempt in bag throwing succeeded, so we could leave the spot just several minutes later.....
TFTC!

This was the next one we found for the day - from memory anyways!!
And another not too bad one - well, that's compared to the difficulty of some of the others I suppose!
I was a bit scared to park my car near here though, - disadvantages of not having a 4 wheel drive ae! But didn't get stuck at any point in the day!
And yay for the rest of the team! - FMZ, YuGeo4, sww & rosmar! Awesome company on an awesomely epic day!!

9606... A nice location for a tree… great views, enjoyed our wet grassy excursion to this one, quickly tackled with the assistance of FMZ, rosmar, sww and sonia26642, TFTC.
Out and about with SWW, Sonia, FMZ and YuGeo4 for a spot of tree caching. Headed to GZ and glad that gumboots were the chosen footwear as the grass was still wet from overnight dew. Pleased to make the find on this one after our failed attempt at the newly published X's Strom cache earlier. Great teamwork once again helped to complete yet another mission TFTC.
After failing to find the new X's Strom cache, we (YuGeo4, rosmar, sonia, sww and myself) needed a boost so we headed off to this one, which we had scoped out before, so were better prepared this time, which made for a quick find, log and rehide. TFTC!!!
When we couldn’t find the new X's Strom cache, we (YuGeo4, rosmar, sonia26642, FMZ and myself) then went on to this one. Quickly found and all done. Definitely needed the morale boost after having spent ages at X’s Strom.
TFTC. Cheers.
TFTC. Cheers.
Scoped out this cache a few weeks back, returned today with climbing equipnment and signed the logbook today
Out collecting tree caches with mike-miss today. He'd already found this one so played safety-man while I climbed. Tftc.
Got it! Returned with equipment; even so it was touch and go; I could only just reach it.
I had assumed it was attached by the lid, so I held on to the cache when I opened it; this caused the lid to go flying. Was quite a hunt before I managed to recover it.
Was very worried about being able to put the cache back after the fact, but it all sorted out ok, and it is all safely back where it belongs.
A real challenge!
P.S. - I tried to "favourite" this cache, but apparently you have to pay Geocaching.com to be able to favourite caches.
Nevertheless, +1 favourite!

Out with Lostcourse and family this morning checking out some of these tree caches. Cache was spotted from the ground easily and Lostcourse did the honours of getting up there and retrieving the cache for a joint FTF. Another number towards finding the bonus cache. TFTC!
Out and about in South Auckland today trying to climb some trees. Quickly spied the cache hiding in plain sight. Arguablly the most straight forward retrieval today. Again, surprised the FTF hadn't already been napped. Hey, I'm not complaining; FTF number 25! Cheers for the cache and the fun day out!
