I'd tried to find this a while ago, but had gotten myself confused as to the meaning of the hint, and didn't look in the right place. Today, I was with JustlookingOO, who easily figured out what the hint meant, and, combining that with some info from previous logs, soon had her hands on the cache. Nice to avenge that DNF!

Having made a late afternoon dash across from Upper Hutt to find a new cache with TwigNZ, we decided to pick up a few extras towards this month's puzzle. This was one of them.
Pulled up the car close to GZ. Some brief consternation, as it looks like some new trees have grown up on the same spot, but a short hunt turned up the cache. All good, tftc!

02-May-23
I popped over the hill after work today with Matagouri, in order to chase a FTF (which we got) and afterwards we decided to look for a few more caches before grabbing some dinner.

This was one we tried for, and found. It was dark, but I had a decent torch with me and Matagouri made the find after a short search. No issues here, and the log was soon signed.

Thanks for bringing me here tonight.

A nice quick find thanks.

Ms_KR and I are off on a wee tour of the North Island. It was a great weather most of today, with the threatened rain starting mid afternoon. Mostly just showers though. Today we cruised around the Wairarapa which was cool.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Just finished a week of work in Masterton and now have a few days free to collect some caches in the region. Quick park and grab however I did notice that it’s the first time the hill tops have been visible and I believe I could see Mt Holdsworth in the distance. Hope one day to climb and collect some of it’s many cache.

#1229. GB Leader and I have nipped over the hill to have a staycation in the Wairarapa. It’s nice to chill out for a bit!

It’s been a pretty windy trip so far and with a bit of a cough and sore throat, I wasn’t keen to venture out. However this afternoon the sun has come out, and the rural B&B we are staying in has caches within walking distance.

This was the second of the walk. It being spring, there’s a lot of growth (what is the name of that sticky-leaved weed which abounds? Anyway, realising the cache is 11 years old, the last tree probably was then, but isn’t now. On the left, of what? The boulevard or the tree? So “Last old tree” proved correct and I soon had the cache in hand & log signed. Another skindo done & dusted. Tftc. Goofy TB came too.

23-May-20
After a long period of lockdown and travel restrictions we are now able to travel between regions. I took this opportunity today to come back over the hill for a return visit to boost my find count for May so that I can finally sign off the now archived 250 finds in every month series. This was helped by completing the Masterton Adventure Lab for an easy ten finds (plus the bonus). In that regard I was successful, with only a couple of DNFs on a couple of archived caches worth recording.

A lovely little road. I had an internal discussion with myself as to what counts as "the last tree" but soon had the cache in hand. All good here. TFTC

Despite living in the Wairarapa for 50 years and working at the south end of Greytown for close to 15 years I don't think I have ever been down this road before. It was all wonderfully quiet here today, in strict contrast to Bidwells Cutting Road nearby. A quick P&G and a dry log. TFTC

Cache #8013. A very rainy day, and Iris and Raewyn were busy doing craftwork so I took off in the car to Greytown to do some geocaching. Found ten caches in the pouring rain and got rather wet in doing so. This was cache number nine and again found very quickly. . I am very wet by this stage but carrying on to get to my target of ten for the afternoon. Thanks for the cache. Rodney.

lovely tree glade
A serious geo caching day! Not so much about numbers but a dedicated pre planned set of caches covering a fairly large area and many of the caches were puzzle caches we had solved or had qualified for. . We travelled 400km, found about 70 caches and were out on the trail for 15hours, so it was a big serious day.
We left about 6.30am from Palmerston North and travelled thro to Masterton where were picked up out first puzzle cache. And then travelled down the back road towards Martinborough locating the 100 and 250 caches for a month -our main objective!. We stopped at Kokotau reserve for a late morning tea cum lunch but the cache here eluded us even with three searchers and a double look before and again after lunch. We replaced several skindo caches along the route with either new containers or water proof logs as so often they were soaking wet. We side tracked up several side roads for caches and we visited Stonehenge on the way. and then headed into Martinborough to initally look for the cache in the town square which had stumped geodatum earlier. As always PJMacNZ solved the retrieval of this cache and we then headed to the pub for a much earned break and tea with Devonshire scones Yummy! We then continued on our way towards home locating other caches in Martin borough and then on the back route up to Greytown to locate the Cobblestone museum cache which I have searched for on numerous occasions. PJM was able to find the Virtual cache there which was a plus for him. By the time we left Masterton it was starting to darken so we gave away the idea of locating the newer Eketahuna caches. They will wait for another day!.
It was a great day and combined effort by all three of us. Thank you to my partners and the Cos for these caches. Lots of smiley faces and project GC points to boot!!

11-Nov-17
We headed off to the Wairarapa today on a caching expedition - the terrific trio of haydn.seek, PJMacNZ and geodatum. Primarily we aimed to sign in for all the 100 and 250 per month Challenge series, but, of course, would collect as much else as we could along the way. We checked out about 75 caches and had very few failures. We left home at 6.30 am and returned at 9.30 pm. The weather was good - sunny and warm, if a little chilly in windy spots, and dry underfoot. We were good company and our team worked together efficiently. So, in all, a very successful day.

We deviated a little from our main route to come onto Kemptons Line. It is a lovely avenue of trees here, which made it quite dark now the daylight was beginning to fade a little. The cache was quickly found. TFTC

#1518. I enjoyed my day in the Wairarapa last weekend so much I decided to come back for another round of geocaching. This time there was no pressure to find 50 caches so just ambled around the roads enjoying the rural scenery and picking up all the caches as I went. Ended up finding 25 today. I had to sit and wait here in the car for a little while a muggle on a pushbike slowly rode down the road towards me. Once he had gone past I walked back down to the trees and made a quick find. The cache was still OK and the logbook was dry. Signed and returned as found. I did get muggled from the nearby paddock. See photo. Thanks for the cache skindo.

Found Started out about 10 am this morning on the bikes with a heap of caches saved from when we were down here last, thanks to all the cos and Wilcox for the time and effort put into some of the ones we came across, after roughly 20km we managed 19. Lovely day and now sitting back enjoying a well earned beer. Tftc I have added paracord key chains to the ones I could. - I love this town and if it hadn't been for all the caches here I wouldn't have had the chance to enjoy my stay.

22-Mar-14
A plan was hatched for another extreme, fly down, drive back caching weekend. funkymunkyzone, alpenmilch80 and myself flew down to Wellington on the first flight Saturday morning. We met up with vista at Petone in the Toyota Yaris rental car, as he'd flown down the previous day. We headed straight out of town and made a beeline for the start of our route at Featherston. We zig zagged our way through Wairarapa, Manawatu, Wanganui and Taranaki on our way back home to Auckland. To save time and log space, we stamped the logs as "Team AMFV".

Our 1500km / 40 hour drive consisted mainly of narrow gravel roads, some of which had spectacular scenery and views. Sorry for the copy/paste logs as its now all abit of a blur having only a few short naps in between. Many thanks to all the cache owners who have placed caches for us to find on another epic little adventure. TFTC! Big GrinBig Grin

22-Mar-14
mike-miss, funkymunkyzone, vistra and I met early Saturday morning for a two-day-geocaching-trip and once we collected the smallest relocation car available (a green camouflaged Yaris) we were on our way. funkymunkyzone already descripted the route we took in detail and I am still very impressed how he managed mostly the driving without getting lost a single time. Clearly he has his own Topo map in his head Wink. This was a great team effort and I enjoyed the groups spirits and its laughs along the way till the sleep finally got me after the last cache in Taranaki.

In total I collected with the "Team AMFV" 278 smiles along the way and the word "brace" is no longer foreign to me. I would like to give a big thanks to Skindo and all the other cache owners for all the placements along our tour and hope I don’t annoy too much with the copy and paste logs. TFTC

22-Mar-14
This cache was found as part of a marathon weekend of geocaching with alpenmilch80, mike-miss and funkymunkyzone - aka "Team AMFV" It was a full on weekend of non-stop caching, mostly on windy gravel Wairarapa roads!

I had flown down to Wellington on Friday, then met up with the others first thing Saturday morning. We loaded up a Toyota Yaris rental car, then slowly made our way back up to Auckland, arriving late on Sunday night! The poor little car certainly got put through a lot!

It was an incredibly long and tiring weekend, but great fun at the same time, with a great group of cachers! All up I found 250 new caches over the weekend and revisited a few that I had found before. Sorry for the copy and paste logs, but the weekend is already a blur! TFTC!!

22-Mar-14
Another fly-down-drive-back-caching weekend, this time in the company of mike-miss, alpenmilch80 and vistra. Three of us flew down very early on Saturday morning and met up with the other who had flown down the previous day. We headed straight out of Wellington, stopping just once to rendezvous with the other member of the team. We cached our way through the Wairarapa, Manawatu, Wanganui and Taranaki under the moniker "Team AMFV" (google it if you're interested, but it seemed appropriate for our mission).

We headed over the Rimutakas and started off with a loop of Lake Ferry before heading north and out into the back blocks.By the evening we were up around Masterton and heading back out into the sticks, criss-crossing Route 52 picking up cache finds along crazy little roads, the craziest of which were around Pongaroa, from where we headed back down and across to SH2 just north of Eketahuna, coming over the insane hills at Pori just after dawn. Spectacular.

We all piled into our little Toyota Yaris rental car, which had probably never seen such terrain before in its life, judging by the amount of clanginjg of metal on stones, and scraping of underbody on metal road centre. All part of the fun though, and nothing like taking 40.5 hours (with basically no sleep), over 1500km, to get from Wellington to Auckland, stopping at 288 caches along the way - 173 on Saturday and 115 on Sunday. I enjoy driving long distances, so I drove for about the first 25 hours plus a few more hours later on Sunday - also because I had designed the route so I knew fairly well the way we were going, and this time we made no mistakes!

Sorry for the largely copy/paste logs, but it's hard work remembering all the different caches. Some stood out from the others but we enjoyed every single one of them and were thankful for every single placement along the way. This trip, and the company, was fantastic and a fun but shatteringly tiring weekend.

TFTC!!! Big Grin

Managed to wangle most of a weekend in the Wairarapa. Knew it was coming up for a while so had put in a bit of an effort solving some puzzles. Had a great couple of days and wound up with about 300 finds. Hardly scratched the surface really - I'll be back!
