Visited this old cache today in the company of the Seagnoid, more out of blind hope than anything else, but then I'm always up for a good tree climb.
I ascended about half way up until I could see the tattered remains of what must have been the camo'd pouch. There's not much left of it now.
Great tree. I'm sure I would have loved to have find this one.

Love a good tree climb, and this would have definately counted as a good climb. Found the cache bag, but the cache is long gone. Would have been a favourite. Oh well.
No response from owner. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Got to location but the bottom of the bag has rotten through and the cache is gone.
Found it by climbing the tree but could not sign. Cache is damaged. Will send photo to owner
The bag is in tatters with nothing inside. Logging as it was a hike and a disappointment. Great view and not for the faint hearted. TFTC
Cacher4life did the climb. Awesome spot. Only a rag left now... but still a cracking spot:-)
Wonderful bush walk with tuis singing all around, exciting climb up a magnificent tree only to discover that the bag has perished and is badly ripped and unfortunately the cache is EMPTY!
Nevertheless an awesome cache site on a lovely walk. Found with smashacache got photo evidence instead of a logbook sign.

Definitely deserves a favorite. Glad to get that one. As per previous log the bag it's on its last threads. Thanks for placing the cache,
We came, we saw, we couldn't climb high enough to retrieve! Will take this one as a moral victory instead.
Haven't been up this way for a few years which made a trip up here worthwhile, given all the new caches that have been placed since. Am also after a few particular terrain difficulties for a challenge I'm currently working on.
Made good use of a spare day and took advantage of a pleasant but cool day - not sure what was harder, the climb to GZ or the climb to the cache! Notwithstanding that, the paperwork was duly completed making for a satisfying find.

#1418 This morning's aim was to finish collecting the caches up Colonial Knob. The weather looked like it would hold off so off we went. It was a stunning walk up to the tree through the bush- very peaceful. The joy of caching in a duo meant that I was able to give the responsibility to Aga to collect this cache. I was happy to give moral support from the ground. He also has the advantage of being quite a bit taller than me so it wasn't too much trouble for him. Very cool cache- I like these ones that are a bit different. Even better when I have an obliging teammate to help out TFTC!

OMG little old me had to climb this one. found while out walking Colonial Knob with Belmont Scouts, Jax479, CaliguliaNZ & orrsum4sum TFTC
Found with Metal-art, CaligulaNZ and Jax479 while out on loop walk with a bunch of Scouts. Metal-art was brave and did the honours. Nice cache. TFTC!
Found with a number of Scout leaders. Lucky to have one of our number keen to climb, as all the scouts had deserted us! Replaced seriously wet log book (and have retained the original to send to CO).
Very nicely done ... I especially love the cache name!
TFTC!
with Metal-Art (who did the climbing), Jax479 & Orsome4ome

Four of us - who is game? I volunteered for the retrieve complete with replacement log book but then a few metres up vertigo started to kick in so beat a hasty retreat and handed the reins over to metal-art. With CaligulaNZ, orsum4sum and metal-art.
The Last day before I start to the south island. I love this kind of Caches. But the Log book is very wet and need maintance.

1 of 8 collected on a trip around the walkway, first time walking around this one, quite steep in places and very pleased to get to the top. Took ages to get GPS reception so was worried we'd gone past this one. Convinced hubby to get this one, glad he did as there was no way I was getting up that high! Great cache and great views, a good start to a good day. SL TFTC and a fav point from me
Went for a walk with the dog up to Colonial Knob from the Camp Elsdon carpark on a very pleasant day. Already located most of the caches over that way. This was the second of just two caches for me (and the geohound) today. Quite a walk by the time we got back to the car via Broken Hill Road!
Be interesting to know who's the oldest so far to have climbed up to this one? Any advances on 60?

Cache back in place, log book dry and added a pencil. Please make sure you seal the zip lock bags before returning the container to its hiding place.
Second visit for me, didn't have Redants with me last time. We have taken the log book out to dry and un-stick the pages, now all we have to do is put it back, unless someone else is planning to go find it, we could hand it over.... please... oh well, another walk up that hill won't hurt me.. too much.

I had heard about this after it had been published and I really wanted to get up here. Last time my father went past I was in Australia, so I missed out. Today we were doing the Colonial Loop, and passed this cache. Very fun, but there are a few rotten branches and some not-too-legitimate looking branches. All in all, a very fun cache. Cache was VERY wet. TFTC
Huffed up the hill and arrived at GZ completely tired out. Quickly scampered up the tree. The retrevial and the return were rather tricky due to the camo. Oh well a nice quick and easy find.

Found this one with helicopter1919. Logbook is soaked down to the point where it is almost impossible to write in it.
There are some caches that I may be destined to never actually sign the log book of. This is likely one of those. For an earthbound, and not so young, cacher the climb to retrieve this one proved to be beyond my capabilities. I was well able to see the target from below, but unable to actually do what was required to get it in hand.
Ah well.... some things are meant to be as there are.
TFTC nonetheless.

The actual retrieval was taken care of by Raven McNight while we all stood below and cheered him on. Logbook very wet. Photo of the Raven in action attached to prove we were here!
Found quickly. Actually getting to the cache took a bit longer. Still, we enjoyed this cache. TFTC
Bit of a tricky one for me to get to soon - any volunteers to put in a new logbook?
I like this cache. It was very funny when I climbed up and I didn't know how to climb down I really enjoyed it. And yes, the logbook is very wet. Thanks.
Logbook saturated and needs drying out or replacing (we replaced the seal on the inner container which was sitting on the ground below the tree).
Having gone astray with our run this morning, we were a lot later arriving at this cache than we had intended, & were running out of time to complete the trail.
GPS was struggling under the trees & didn't come back on until we were 80mts past GZ so we had to back track a little.
I like to surprise hubby with these more challenging caches, so didn't tell him the requirements until we were at GZ. He didn't even flinch & shot up that tree like a rat up a drainpipe!
Job was completed quick smart. Left a pet rock - a possum (seemed appropriate) TFTC

"Discovered" cache, but didn't have the time to climus.
Nicely done ... will try to make it a priority to get back to this one in the near future.

StreetWalker was already halfway up by the time I got to GZ, so I called out to him that I hoped he had a pen with him. Of course, he said and carried on to retrieve the cache. It turned out he hadn't (my mistake - I had used his pen for signing the log at Respite, and had forgotten to return it ).
So down he came with logbook and we signed it on the ground, then back up again. Next moment there was a clatter as both containers and lids were dropped. Down he came again to retrieve them. There were some tense moments as he attempted to return to cache to its camo bag (will he drop the container again? then success ! TFTC.

#5035. As reported by Troodles, this was climus, climus, climus radiata for me today. One of the extras was Troodles fault (not giving me my pen back) and the other was my fault (managing to dislodge the cache container from the branch I left it sitting in). Still, it was nice to write my log on the ground, and not up the tree. When I dislodge the containers, 3 bits fell to ground and one I had to retrieve from half way down. Oh well, at least the tree was easy enough to climb, and not covered in sticky sap. TFTC.
Well can't log this as a find as I didn't write in the log. Then again I can't log it as a did not find, because I most definitely found it and did get part the way up the tree, but due to the condition, wind, and the fact that I was alone I though better of attempting the last 3 to 4 metres to the cache which I could see just out of my reach. Oh well means another day I have to slog my way up all those flipping steps. I like where this is.
Out for a walk today, and Mr TT scaled the tree fearlessly! However, no pen in the cache and far off the ground, so forgive us but he scratched in the logbook with a piece of bark/fungus which has made a mark, and added a couple of pine needles as evidence. Great track and so close to home. TFTC
Found it and climbed the tree as my first cache on the Colonial Knob circuit. Took a bit of effort to get up in the wind, and a little bit of movement in the tree, but all good in the end. Fear I may have signed with the 18th January date - no way was I going back up to correct the log book ! TFTC, and worth a favourite from me - are you sure it's only a 4 Terrain rating ?
Visible from the track but you would have to be looking!
Quick climb by both of us to sign the log.
Amazing but there was a bit of condensation in the small sistema container.

As we were on our way down from Colonial Knob I thought we had finished with the climbing! But then who could walk past an unlogged cache, even if it is up a pile of firewood. Climbed and signed. TFTC
Well we got the muggle to climb the tree today in the hope we could "turn" him into a cacher, but no luck yet. Awesome tree, great walk and lovely day. Did with Buttels, Violet Butterfly and Wandering Dragons.
Did today with Wandering Dragons, Crystal Fairy and Buttels, plus a couple of geodogs and a muggle we've been trying to convert. Nice tree!

Climbed up the hill without checking the GPSr and when I did ..Arrggg! My GSAK filter hadn't caught all the caches in the area - I don't know why....
Anyway on I went looking for geo-trails to follow and looking up into the trees I passed, when suddenly there it was blowing in the wind. So off I went up the (is only 8?) meters to the the GZ. Got it!
Thanks for bring us up here and for the challenging cache.

Good fun cache. Good walk up to cache with quite a cold wind and a couple of light showers of rain - but not too bad really. Soon saw the container and a quick climb later had the containers in hand. SL Left Jeep TB TFTC
With gale force Northerlies it was a stunning and invigurating day to do the Colonial Knoll circuit.
Could see the cache from the path due to the gale force winds buffeting the tree and blowing the camo bag around.
Right, shall I ?
Was an awkward climb but I think that was to do with the gale winds rather than the tree.
Arrived at GZ and unclipped the 1L Sistema while still in the bag, then removed the 200ml sistema and did the same inside the bag, less chance of dropping it or the gale ripping it out of my hands.
Signed the Log awkwardly, back in the bag, back into the 200ml and clipped shut, back into the 1L and clipped shut, bag closed and let go to blow around.
Back down and this earns a favourite point.
TNLNSL TFT climb !

Saw the cache quite clearly from the track, but chickened out of retrieving it!
Yep, logbook was saturated. No clue why as Sistema's are generally weather-resilient. Have replaced the cache with a 200mL inside a 1L. Good views today.
Left wondering as to why these pine trees are growing here at all? However, a well chosen specimen for it it's climus-ability and surprisingly grand views from GZ, or is that GZ +8m? Great fun.
As per Boxhill's maintenance log of 28 March I too found water in the cache, and a saturated logbook. I was hence unable to sign but left instead a pretty clear signature embossed on the laminated card.
Many thanks.

Stopped off to look for this one on the way back down from Colonial Knob. After reading the cache description I was expecting a bit more of a challenge, I was up and down in less than 5 minutes. It maybe necessary to change the container to something more waterproof, the log book was very wet and I couldn’t separate the pages. So I signed where I could. TFTC
Out for a walk today dad got me up the hill and down the hill to do this one easy found from the trail but have same fun getting to it it was a bit hard getting it back in the rigth place TFTC
Late log, but found this one on a very pleasant Sunday walk up Colonial Knob. A good diversion on the way down, mad a bit more interesting by the recent rain. Sent little penguin up first with the excuse that I would be a soft landing... Great views, and a fun cache.
the boss want a walk today so off to Colonail knob we went. No Jr taybee on walk as he is in the south Island again geocaching ,as good Geocacher we are had the GPS on and this cache pop up on the way up ,so we had to stop and do it easy climb to cache but next time JR taybee will have to climb the tree to get this found TFTC
Decided after lunch that a little walk was in order. Ok the walk was fine, but getting to the cache, well that's another story altogether. Getting back down was way faster than going up. This pushed the limits of comfort!!!!

laughing at how slow some of the adults were at climbing the tree but at least they all gave it a shot!

Last cache for the day, was on my way back home and got a phone call asking me if I was interested in doing a cache that wasnt too far from home. I thought to myself who would put a cache so close to my place and when I checked the webpage and realised who it was I knew that this was going to be a fun cache so decided that I might as well give it a go. After reading the cache page and thinking about the cache I decided that this was going to be a very interesting cache and a bit of company just to laugh at me was all I needed. After a bit of huffing and puffing we finally got to GZ and then it was a quick climb to GZ, actually climbing to GZ and getting laugh at by the fitter members of the party was quite funny I must admit, but it was worth it in the end, I just got to ask a question, I wonder how many people this tree can hold before it collapses, not a good idea to wonder when you are up in the middle of a tree and there is a group of you up there. Was quite luck as there were no muggles on the path as we were up in the tree otherwise it would be quite funny to try and explain to them. Great views at GZ, thanks for placing a cache up here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (3851)
A great evening for a group outing in the company of agcnz, -gonefishing-, macgyverism and Yeetrees. A quick walk up the hill followed by a quick ascent of the tree saw the formalities completed. A less charitable person may have commented on that with so many people in the tree, it may be difficult to differentiate between the deadwood and the decorations . TFTC
Noticed this one published this afternoon, looks interesting and noted for my list to do when next in the area. Well done LeftyNZ on the FTF!

#790. FTF@1730, yay!! I always enjoy a good tree climb, and one with the possibility of an FTF is too good to pass up. I must admit that by the time I got to the tree I had a little bit of the speed wobbles from the slog up the hill. I spent a couple of minutes identifying the cache before making the ascent, which proved beneficial as it allowed me to plan my climb with a little more precision. The bulk of the branches were quite large, so no issues with deadwood, although the climb down was a tad harder due to the branches being so wide they were harder to wrap my arms around. A great walk and nice views from GZ. SL, TFTC. -FTF prize (great for re-energizing on the return trip down the hill).
Joined up early this evening with fozzmiester, -gonefishing-, macgyverism and Yeetrees for an instant cachers' flash mob attack on this one. After a quick stomp up the hill we rapidly identified the tree and could spot the cache, and we started off up. That tree must have looked quite interesting for a while with various 2-legged creatures perching up and down it. No problems climbing - easy in fact - and the cache was rapidly in hand. Not sure how long it's going to remain sitting on top of the branch (placed there as requested), I suspect it'll blow off fairly quickly. However it's well tied on and I looped the cord a few times around a small side branch so it won't hang so low. Great view from up the tree! Signed log, TFTC and for the excuse for a bit of good pre-dinner exercise!
A quick walk up the hill to a spot where I am sure I sought some respite on the way up to Respite last time. This time in the company of agcnz, fozzmiester, yeetrees and macgyverism. The tree climb was taken care of quickly with agcnz being entrusted with securing it again once we were done. Great views from GZ, and a thoroughly pleasant pre-dinner walk.
