Detoured to here on our way to Meet at the Mine event. Have been wanting to tick these off for sometime. 800m round trip detour which took longer than expected but worth it.
A lovely spot.
Log book is soaked.
Replaced it with a mini Treetops book and signed in that. Placed in new zip lock bag.
Thanks Mudbrick - adopted by Ausyowie

Met up with SteMicMitSar and started our action packed day. The hint told us where to look as our GPS were having a rest of some sort today. The cache containers gave us a laugh!
Thanks mudbrick and AusYowie.
Thanks mudbrick and AusYowie.
On my way back to the car this was only a small detour to this cache. The log bock was very wet which mad for a bit of a challenge to sign. TFTC
We were conscious of being late, even missing the event but one of the party went ahead to announce our eventual arrival. This wasn’t too hard to find and we were on our way, spurred on by the thought of sitting and eating! Thanks for the cache.
*Found on the 10 Apr 2022 @ 1:49 pm.*
*Cache find # 12683.*
Now that the event was over, it was time to head back to our cars so I headed off with McLookers down East Walk, Razorback North and Razorback tracks to where the cars were parked making a nice loop around for the day.
This one was a slight detour from our intended route but not too far and we were soon back on track after the cache was found.
**Thanks to Mudbrick for placing this cache and Ausyowie for keeping it up on running.**

Fuelled on by the attraction of an event in the middle of the Lerdie, Chook joined a wonderful group of friends (OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan, Perpetually Lost and Jarwillo) to hike in via Razorback and Spanish Onion tracks, then out again via East Walk.
Most of our group weren't "pro" hikers so we were no doubt a little slower than normal to navigate down the rocky ridge descent of Spanish Onion Track and then up the escarpment on the other side of the river. However we got here and there were high fives all round. By this stage we were late for the event that was still another km ahead but the journey was more important. We loved the themed container. TFTC Mudbrick and Ausyowie, for placing caches here to keep us going and to show us these legendary Lerdie tracks.

A beautiful day's hiking through the Lerderderg National Park with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, OzHockeyChick, Explorer Nan and Crack’n’LeeLee. We were out here to attend the event hosted by the hamfish and took the chance to explore some of the trails and the various caches hidden along the way. Some a quick find just off the trail and others requiring quite a bit of scrambling up and down slopes. A long but enjoyable day.
We were already running late for the event at this stage so why not take this short detour off track to make the find along the way. Thanks for the cache.

A gorgeous day for a stroll through the lovely Lerderderg Nat Park, exploring Razorback and East Walk tracks. Teamed up with Perpetuallylost, chooknchunk, Jarwillo & Explorer Nan.
Nearly at the event, with just this one to go. By now we were running quite late. The conversation went a little like this...
How far off the track is it?
Oh, only 50m or so.
Up there?
Yep.
Hmmm.
OK let's go.
That last 10m seemed to take forever.
Thankfully a quick find and a unique container.
However, the logbook is a little soggy, so probably not quite waterproof for this area.
Thanks for bringing us here today by placing this cache, Ausyowie

we have seen many animals on our geocaching travels
most of them are the usual suspects: wombats, echidnas, koalas, more kangaroos than you can count, lyrebirds, eagles, blue-tongue lizards, brown snakes
we are yet to see a platypus but are holding our breath
here we saw a first:
a goat
there is something a little uncanny about seeing an animal you don’t expect to see in the middle of nowhere
we had read about the feral animals of lerderderg: rabbits, cats, goats, foxes, pigs, deer
but never really expected to run into one
and yet there the goat was
clopping along
shaggy dirty coat
horns curled like vines
we will say this:
it was interesting to bump into a goat
but
we would still prefer a platypus

Stunning river gorge views on way up. This was my fav area to walk on the circuit. Just stunning river with lots of water, high above the gorge. Plants in flower, and the rocks always look great in the wet. The cache as previously noted had water run through it. Unable to sign geocache soaked. The cache had been carefully placed so surprised to find it wet. Its a long cold winter, at some stage the water has run through. Great spot, would be wonderful for this cache to stay here. Wish I had read the previous log pre walk, could of brought in fresh note pad. Oh well, it was a last minute decision to walk Whiskey today. So glad we did stunning TFTC

With one day left of home time before returning to work tomorrow thanks to the Covid-19 lockdown, and with a forecast of calm mild weather and no rain, it was my chance to head out to the Lerderderg to find a few caches.
I have only just recently started to use GSAK and familiarizing myself with some of the functions this piece of software is capable of. Once of those functions was to be able to organise a pocket query i had of unfound caches (to me) around Ballarat in order of the 'longest since found'. As it turned out this cache was at the very top of that list, so, now that we are allowed to venture out again, I made it my quest to find this cache as soon as possible.
I will admit to sleeping not very well last night, with reading previous logs running through my mind of treacherous river crossings, steep cliffs and rock scrambles up ravines. Fortunately, once on the track i didn't find the going too hard, except for losing the track as soon as i crossed the river. But several conveniently-placed pink ribbons guided my way back on track where i quickly found this long-unloved cache. What a shame it was full of water and the logbook soaked through, but i stamped it anyway and took a pic to prove i was there. Returned it upside-down to prevent more water getting into it, took in some more views while having a bite to eat and made the long trek back to the geomobile for a well- earned coffee!
Thx to mudbrick and Ausyowie for this cache, loved the journey and views getting here, much relieved to be back at the geomobile though! Definite FP for the adventure.

**Find #1254**
Had come close to this cache a few months ago when I grabbed Whiskey Buisness cache, but was not prepared to wade across the river. Well today I was on a big caching mission to clean out a few more. So after crossing the river today, and i was a bit higher than when I was here last time. The cache was found easily and I was so relieved to find it. I didn't want to come this far for a DNF. Anyway thanks for a cracker of a cache. Enjoyed the journey.
Thanks **mudbrick and Ausyowie**

After turning a previous DNF into a smiley nearby, this bad boy was next on my hit list. On my first visit to this area I walked from the Mt.Blackwood road side, this time I decided on a different approach. I parked the car on O'Briens road, right next to Cowan track. The walk in was pleasant enough until Cowan track ended and the Razorback track started. That's where the terrain rating went up a notch...or two !!
The little section of track that winds along the river up to the Spanish onion track is certainly not made for sprinting !! Being right on the side of the hill, I'm glad it wasn't a wet day. It got very narrow in places, with bushes jutting out over the path. One slip here and it would be a very quick trip to the river below.
I soon spotted the track junction and it was a short stroll to the hide. Unfortunately a bit of water had found its way into the cache. While it wasn't soaking, the swag with metal had a bit of rust and some paper had started going a bit mouldy. I added my name to the list ( and collected over 7 months of unloved !! ) and returned the cache to it's hiding spot.
I'm still not sure about the cache title and the cache container..... Maybe I'm missing something ???? Thanks for another great walk and showing me a different area of this huge park. I think I have 4 left to collect in Lerderderg. A fave point from me. TFTC mudbrick.

Find 5 of 17 for the day and what a day it turned out to be. The whisky creek circuit is a challenging walk especially for the unfit like Neville_devil and myself Sims_family dad. The rest of the Sims_family had been left at home for the day because of the D/T rating of the caches on the track.
This was the cache that things really started to go wrong for us today. We ended up losing the track and ended up walking along the river instead and we couldn't find the start of the track on the other side of the river to make it up to here. So what we ended up doing was climb. That was quite scary at times as there really was a lot of hand hold or foot hold that were that stable. clinging to dirt and plant matter we did manage to climb the very steep parts and eventually came to a path that we were able to follow up to this cache. Yay and some unloved cache months the aim for todays hike.
Thanks mudbrick the adrenaline rush and bringing us to this beautiful part of the world.

Today I feel I earned every cache I found.
20 in total walking the Whiskey Creek Circuit.
Temp mild but some of the climbs where testing.
Although I had a great half day.
12.8km in total, started at 8:34am finished at 13:30.
The walk here from the previous cache was fun.
Narrow path, high at times and narrow.
Nice views of the river below.
Then the last 40m were a real test.
Lucky it was an easy find and a nice spot to catch my breath.

A day in Lerderderg State Park, full of kangaroos, rosellas, a fox and where I nearly stabbed a black snake with my trekking pole at the same instant that we became mutually aware of each other! Luckily it sidewinded back into the bush. Humourous caches and a fair bit of exercise.
La cebolla or un pomodoro?...
Either way I initially took the wrong way until I realised I may be facing another elevation issue. Back I went until I found the one true path and realised where onions came in.
This was enough today as I hadn't started till the afternoon and had parked at Square Bottle Rd. Plenty of hills to climb and a snake I had yet to meet. A great walk.
Thanks and cheers!

Fortunately I didn't need to refer to my Spanish to find La Cebolla.
But after several kilometres, I'm starting to feel these climbs now.
Perhaps I should have packed in some water as well, and not just whisky!
** glug glug * hick **
Thanks, mudbrick.

Find number 6 out and about With ThePacman, Jacko83 and the Geopup Bentley on a perfect day for a walk in the bush. Having descended to river level and found an earlier cache on the trail, it was time to cross the water and head uphill. We wandered along and found a likely crossing point. Being somewhat shorter in the leg than the boys and not fancying a swim (Bentley) or wet shoes (no names mentioned ), I whipped off the shoes and socks and hit the water. My reasoning was sound and my passage across went smoothly, but boy oh boy was that water cold!! I'd forgotten how cold these types of streams can be! However, we all made the opposite bank and it was onwards and upwards to the cache which we found after a short backtrack. Another clever hide!
Thanks mudbrick for the cache, a great series and for showing me a new part of the world !

We bade farewell for a while to the sub-group at the junction for a short diversion up the hill to look for this one. The coordinates seemed to be close enough for jazz and we had the stash in hand from a reasonably obvious hidey-hole at 13:25.
Oh well, back to the main track and the sensational views.
TNLNSL, although our HAPPY New Year to the cache geocoin had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks mudbrick.

After lunch we took the high road and moved out of the horseshoe with sights of river rock pools. A short diversion on the ridge got us to GZ and an unloved tomato at 1:20pm. TFTC
A short diversion up the hill and away from the group and we had this one at 1:20pm. Interesting container! Great views overlooking the river as we wound our way back to catch up with the group.

Ok, I did a mudbrick on this one, I really should read cache descriptions as I just decided to wander down the river thinking I would find this at the river level. Several river crossings later, by now with wet shoes/pants, a suspected snake sighting, an encounter with a Grandad Goat with the biggest set of horns you would ever see, I was getting close to GZ, then passed it, within about 80m... I then realized it was above me!! I read the description, oh there is a track up there, thats why navigating the river is so hard....
This is where I faced an almost vertical ascent, its only 80m right, only tool about half an hr, had to have a little lie down once I reached the signpost, completely knackered. then went about searching for the cache, hmmmm, cant find it, looked at previous logs, noticed mudbrick had updated coords, and pevious search had been a dnf with these, so plugged in old coords, bang on found it.
Moral of the story, dunno, although if you like adventure, take the river, some awesome views down there!!
Old coords are the right ones.
Cheers Gordo

After a previous find the trip here was expected to follow the river and the bananas did their best to try and achieve this. the walk was lovely but the expectation of another swim had us again up the mountain.
Arrived at this site expecting to use the clues written down as 1 meter up a tree. We looked and looken and although we found out that the coordinates were correct no find was made. Nearly one hour was spent here but no luck. Probably wont try again for a nice park in the Melbourne suburbs looks more promising than one missed challenge out here.

Easy find, thanks to very good description, whilst out tramping and caching with Ozwalker. TFTC
Pretty much tripped over a kangaroo getting this one. Will have to do the Spanish onion track another time.... Back on wagon for us.

Ahh a walk in the sun, a bit of climbing and a cache After the river crossing I suspected the path to go up there and I was right. A bit steep but whatever. Followed by a lot of nice views down to the river and some mining sites I finally got to GZ which was an easy find.
This is definitely a favourite!

Find no2 for 6Hinemoa2 and myself, and no3 for Bristlehound who found an extra.
The river crossing proved a challenge for us all after recent rains, and it was to be followed by the steep climb back up to the East track.
Another well placed cache in the series, thanks again Mudbrick

The last time I travelled this track, it was from the other end and some wag had actually left una cebolla on a stick at the start. It's actually a really enjoyable track to walk, especially from its junction with Lerderderg Track. After our river crossing and the ensuing climb, the signal settled eventually and the cache was located. Number 2 in the series - well, for those of us doing it backwards anyway. Thanks Mudbrick.
Bristlehound and Bogonhazy showed me how to cross the river that was up a little after the rain. I decided that wet feet were preferable to wet clothes so I just walked through it. Maybe another time I will do as the boys do!
Then the first of the challenging climbs for the day loomed ahead.
Happy to say that the cache was in hand and signed by all after successfully climbing and scrambling up the hill.

A much flatter trail from Mine Creek to here than the ones I was on previously... Reached the marker and made the short ascent to the hide and look! Bare book! Spent a few moments with the views on both sides. Thanks.
