Cache 1711 Still in Dunedin working on my mountain Dog challenge and todays summit was Swampy, the Leith saddle track was the recommended trail to take with the dog, the manicured part of the track at the start is quite steep then once off that its a sloppy slippery track till you hit the spur. There was light rain and enough wind to make the trek up bitter but once at the top the sun shone and kept me warm for the return trek. Another cache filled with water but the baggie has kept the log pretty dry, and still writable another for today T4TC
A stunning day for a walk up here today, amazing views. Found as part of the Ramblers Reward Challenge.
Found this on my day out on Leith Saddle and Swampy tracks - easier to find than the caches lower down, thank goodness
Found whilst doing nearby cache maintenance - always enjoy the walk up here - TFTC
Straightforward find. Nice and dry. Quiet here out if the wind and now the sun is out.
Miserable conditions up here with wind and cloud. Soon found the cache in wet vegetation. Thanks
A day adventure up Silverstream. After walking down and back up the Rain Gauge Spur Track I decided to carry on up to Swampy for a look even tho it was a little foggy. A nice quick find here and looks like the weather is clearing TFTC
A nice easy find after coming up the Leith Saddle track. Walking along the relatively level spur was very welcome after the steep climb. Lots of cloud today so no view for us, instead we appreciated the lovely plant life along the track. We turned back after finding this cache & it was a 1.5 hour return walk from the Leith Saddle track carpark, 2 hours if you include the time taken to find three caches. TFTC.
We are counting this as our first ramble for the Rambler's Reward challenge cache, GC2XBA7.

A nice fun hike up the Leith Saddle Track with friends (who have a geocaching account but not used it in a while so signed as family name).
It was time for a bit of a walk initially to the Swampy Spur transmitter to see how I would manage the walk as it has been quite a while since I have done any sort of exercise. I'm blaming the previous two weeks of lousy weather.
Nice to have a bit of relatively flat ground.
Cheers for the cache.

I am not sure which part of me thought that a 'significant hike' was called for today... I have already found the others on the way, but have been planning to come back for this one at some stage. There was some indication of sun, but it started raining as I was getting closer to the parks ng spot. Then it magically stopped until I was back!! Lovely walk up, and I was surprised to find snow!! and some ice!! on the way, especially once I made it beyond the lookout. Pristine snow too, no one has walked here since it settled on the ground. The wind got quite icy, so out came the hat and gloves - fortunately I remembered my jacked and even managed to locate it before setting off for today's adventure... The cache wondered out of the hiding place I presumed based on the hint, possibly checking where everyone was and when is someone finally coming to sign the log again? Replaced from out in the open to the hint-based location before heading off into the wind again. TFTC!!

Managed this with any GPS and also forgetting to bring my notes. It was the only manuka that I had seen for a while. TFTC.
The views just keep getting better! After waiting for some muggles to depart the spot, we had a bit of bush identification confusion, then found it.
Found it with swollibman on our 3 days silver peaks hike, with good weather and some nice caches. Thanks for the cache.
Found with M@tea during our great weekend out tramping/Geocaching around the Silver Peaks. Thanks everyone for placing the quality caches in this area and providing us with much enjoyment during a beautiful spring weekend.
We had gone on the walk without the aid of PC Sniff's GPS and (much to his amusement) I was mindful of the need to husband the battery life of my smartphone, so was turning the GPS function off intermittently. We were still some way off when I read the clue, looked up, and both PC and I immediately said "It will be that one." It was. Thanks for getting us out walking in glorious weather on this track with the most breathtaking views of Dunedin.
Out for a nice run up the Leith saddle, onto Flagstaff then down into town. I stopped for a couple of quick caches along the way to catch my breath! This was a nice quick find, and didn't get too wet in the bush to sign it! Thanks

Could see this one from a few metres away. Tried to cover it up as best I could before moving on.

This has been on my "To do" list for far too long. The track has certainly improved since my last time up here, which must have been at least 3 or 4 years ago. Quick find. TFTC.
Biked up Rollinsons Road. Very hot day and a very slow bike, sucking up my water ration much faster than intended. After that a quick walk down from the top to the cache. Ride back down hampered a little by collisions with bees who were hammering the manuka. One hour up from the gate, half hour back. The most disappointing thing was the brevity of logs in the logbook. Sigh - the good old days...
Finally getting around to logging... I did this as part of the MEGA trip organised by KiwiChris (thanks!). The weather and the views were gradually improving. A very pleasant trip. Thanks.
Down here for the mega event, and thanks to evilno9 was signed up to take part on this hike. Probably the best part of the weekend! Nothing like a good hike in some wild weather! Big thanks to Kiwichris for being a fantastic guide, and great to meet some new people.
Thankfully by this stage, the weather had settled a little, and hail had retreated! Even got a bit of a view at this stop. Quick find, TFTC

#4217. Number 5 for the MEGA walkers. We were making good progress along the ridge; it was too cold to stay still for long. Views were steadily improving. TFTC.
Cache no. 5 on our caching tour under the watchful eye of our guide KiwiChris. This was one of the more exposed parts of our walk, so our jackets were all zipped up fully as we proceeded on our way. With 9 searchers it doesn't take too long to find a cache! TFTC and the adventure...
After our experience with the hail at the previous cache we were a little wary of the conditions turning worse and having to head back down the hill to safety. As luck would have it though the weather gods played nice and while it wasn't warming up anytime soon, the conditions were good enough for us to keep plowing on without having to turn back.
Another quick find at GZ, and some great views for good measure before we headed off to the next one.

Found as part of the group completing the NZ Mega event Swampy Circuit Trek led by KiwiChris with StreetWalkerNZ following behind ensuring we all kept together.
The group met up at our starting co-ordinates and then set off at 9am. There was a question as to how far we would get due to the uncertainty of the weather, however apart from having to shelter briefly from some light hail it turned out to be a rather nice day allowing us to complete the full circuit.
Cache number 5 found at 1030hrs - thanks for the hunt.

As a part of the NZ Mega event a "tramp" was organised and led by KiwiChris to tackle the challenging Swampy Circuit.
We all met up at our starting co-ordinates (cheers for EvilNo9 for the lift) and then set off at 9am.
The weather was the only uncertainty about the day, but apart from a sharp hail storm, it was all perfect.
The terrain was the most challenging, with some long steep climbs and some pretty trecherous
downhill mud slides.
The walk was about 13 km, but felt more due to the terrain, but we completed it all within 6 hours,
with a break for lunch and stopping to find for 12 caches.
All in all a fantastic mini event, a big thank you to KiwiChris, with whom this activity would never
have come together. Took some fantastic photos on route.
Cache did not take to find with 10 active searchers !!!

After the weather improved we decided to continue along the spur. It did become quite cold and windy. The cache was soon spied and the caching business completed.
This was the next on the hitlist as meandered toward the towers. I pulled up and found a likely GZ. I soon found a cache thereafter. It was in great condition. After nearly forgetting my sunglasses, I was off and racing again. A very beautiful area. TFTC drawp
Nice spot for this cache, beautiful day for it! Found it with Ravenspore4. TFTC
Little shelter from the gale force wind along this spur today. There was one tree that looked a likey spot, and sure enough that was where the cache was. Cache contents were in good shape.
Quick to find and quick to write in the log. Found with Aoraki Sheep on a sunny winter's day.
Found at 8:23 AM on 12/05/2012.
Out for an early morning stroll across Swampy and back via the Burns Track. Just walked into the sunlight with the Sun rising behind me.

It's been 8 Years since I were this far up the track, it is a much improved walk now.-Bitsprayer
Easy find on my way down the ridge from the summit after a round trip.

Well I had good weather! Closing in on the GZ I thought "It should be there", and it was. Thanks.
Easy find and some shelter here from the rain laden southerly. Thanks for the cache.
Quick find hampered only by the gales and wetness, still having a blast tho TFTC I am counting this cache towards my Ramblers Reward Challenge cheers!

A misty morning trek up for this one as I'd been waiting for another to pop up to make getting a couple of others in the area worth the trip.
Although there were no views today, as the higher I got the more clagged in it became, it was still a good bit of exercise so...
