We stopped here for a rest and a snack log and a signed a log then admired the views! What a spot! Awesome we can get so close! TFTC
Out on the OCR with family aged 5 to 80.Good find by the grandchildren. Log is a little damp so sat in the sun for 5 mins before we headed off on a great day.TFTC
Day 2 for biking in this area, nice quick find here with help from the hint .Thanks for the placement and the smiley
Nice spot easy find unfortunately no pen or pencil too mark our name on this one but great walk
Stayed the night in my van at Whakapapa Village, just done some cache maintenance on Mnt Ruapehu, later I will place a few caches today. It's warm as but raining on Ruapehu when I left there, oh dear... was iffy when I parked up, should have trusted my gut instinct and stayed in the van, and sure enough it poured down as I arrived here. Dammit! My e-bike is getting wet, not worried about me without a raincoat but don't want the electrics to fry, thankfully they never did, so had to concede defeat and not get to the tunnel as I was hoping. Never mind, I was damp as but warm back in the van, at least I got one of the caches along this trail. next time.... dry weather!
We're currently staying at National Park, and popped down this way for the day. Walked along part of the Old Coach Road to find the first three caches, and will do the rest another time - hopefully on our mountain bikes! Plenty of people on the trail today, but fortunately not at this site when we were there, TFTC
Cycle adventure along the Old coach road. TFTC
Decided this was a good place to leave a long-term travelling companion so LTB - bon voyage!
*** unfortunately can't find it in the trackables inventory so apologies to the TB owner - it was a plaque about Wyoming ***

Rain is staying away a bit of a bottleneck with everybody stopping to get a picture.
Grabbed the cache and was soon signing log. All dry thanks for the hide. Amazing road, so far, but expecting it to get rougher..
With rebel98 cycling the old couch road

3 generations out on the Old Coach road today. A great ride and some awesome history along the way
Staying in Horopito for the weekend. Brought the bikes to try out this track. Good views and amazing history. Nice to take the time and remember the people invoked in building these viaduct. The track was very busy and as we arrived a big group was just heading off. TFTC
Loved the views from below this viaduct and even better to be able to see it from the top. Enjoying the bike ride today - albeit quite bumpy on those cobbles! They managed to work a screw loose (possibly to match it’s owner!). Will look to do some running repairs and continue on, thanks so much for providing the history around this structure and for placing a cache here - a favourite for me.
This was a very popular place when we arrived here. At least three other groups so getting the cache had to be done quickly and with stealth.
This spot definitely deserves a GC. The remaining structure of the viaduct is quite the sight and apparently the colour is more due to a red lichen than rust. TFTC
Amazing to imagine how difficult it would have been to not only erect but also bring such a massive structure in the middle of nowhere. There were lots of people having a rest here but it didn’t stop us from looking for the cache which was quickly spotted. We didn’t have a pen so took a photo of the log with the structure in the background. TFTC
What an impressive structure. Shame you cannot walk over it to really admire it. Not with my head for heights anyway.
Headed out for a late afternoon stroll with the family. Unfortunately i hadn't planned on such a walk and was only wearing slip on shoes and i now have the blisters to show for it. So we ended up turning back before the 3rd cache. Will be back another day, maybe even attempt the whole old coach road! Anyway beautiful scenery, easy track, quick find, all in order here. This cache was rather obvious. We rehid with a bit more camo. Thanks for placing these caches RadioNut.
Over In National Park for the new year period and getting a few cache's while travailing around the area, to day we decided to bike along the Old Coach Road and stopped here for a snak and look at the viaduct, checked my phone as i thought there would be a cache here and boom there was...

#713. Mr and Mrs Northwood headed to Ohakune for a couple of nights to walk the Old Coach Road. And of course this meant a number of opportunities to look for some caches in some interesting spots. We were not always successful - sometimes because we're being a bit more careful these days!
Already quite impressed by the efforts of the workers who put the railway and the structures in place. Another quick find here and the cache is in good condition.

Just a short bike ride from Horopito today. An amazing structure! Thanks for placing the cache
Awesome to get a cache on our cycle today! Glorious day! Thanks for placing this cache!

Amazing engineering and kiwi ingenuity. Imagine how hard the crews worked. Great stop on our cycle. TFTC
Just by chance had placed our bikes at this spot while we admired the viaduct. Despite there being lots of muggles around quickly retrieved the cache then got on our bikes again. Tftc.
Really enjoying the big ride, the history, the information and rhe caches, thanks radionut, your hides are all brilliant, the containers all excellent and generally everything is in tiptop condition.
Cycling the Old Coach Rode with Sharkboy who doesn't want to geocache. Told him we could have a few stops for breathers/snacks/photos and if there so happened to be a cache I would quickly find it. Luckily I was the one who suggested these stops at very specific spots on the track.
A very impressive structure that we enjoyed having some snacks on the nearby table before finding the cache. Again many thanks for the hints, just enough of a hunt but not too hard when all my energy is going into my legs and not my brain!

Loved this one! Excellent incentive to cross the bridge. Had the perfect gc group.. mr 8 spotted it, and my 6’4” bro for retrieval! Windy and misty made for a very eery atmosphere in the valley.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Oops wrong viaduct log! This one found by mr 4, as we stopped for a photo op and a snack. Tftc!

**Out cycling on the Old Coach Road trail.**
We were out making the most of our trip to Ohakune so decided to do the beautiful bike track. Because we were aware of time, we couldn’t stop and find all the caches on the way.
But this one was nice to find when we stopped for a break at the Viaduct.
Thank you for setting this up and taking us to a neat location.

Out for the day to ride the Old Coach Road and pick up caches along the way. This was the third find along the way and the location has a pretty impressive view! The cache is nice and dry, TFTC!
Beaut place to stop while biking the trail Tftc - no pen so took photo of log book
Found this last week when we cycled the old coach road, cold day but awesome ride TFTC.
We have gone down to Alert 3 in our Covid-19 lockdown, and Geocaching is now allowed, so time to re-enable the caches.
DISABLING THIS CACHE TO DISCOURAGE HUNTING DURING THE COVID-19 LOCK-DOWN. NEW LOGS AFTER TODAY MAY BE DELETED. THE CACHE WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Great piece of NZ history, loved the ride today. Stopped here for lunch. Tftc
Staying over Anniversary weekend for some cycling around and about with a group from Tauranga. Having fabulous weather and doing some great cycling trails. Cycled both ways and did our caching on the way back, took our time and really enjoyed ourselves. Took us a while to locate this beauty as it was well tucked away and further than we expected. However, cache is all good. Loving the history. TFTC
Had a great long weekend break in Ohakune expressly to walk the Old Coachroad Trail. Even though it was a rather dismal day, the walk was fantastic with so much to see and explore with all the viaducts and the amazing tunnel. - Tftc.
Quick find. There was a couple having lunch while looking at the viaduct, I just sat on a rock and quietly reached in to grab the cache
Number one for us on Old Coach Rd - such a lovely ride on an Autumn day - thanks
What a superb sight! Have never been here before - great to have a place like this made accessible. We thoroughly enjoyed the bike ride from Ohakune to here and back. A bit more up-and-down than expected, and those sets on the road are decidedly bumpy at times, so we would rate the ride as closer to Intermediate. A wonderful range of scenery and interpretation of historic sites. Would have liked to continue on to Horopito but Mr D pointed out we had plans for Thursday so needed to make sure we didn't have too long a day...

Used a stick to bury the used toilet paper some tourist had left beside the cache hide, yuk.

This was the only cache on the Old Coach Rail that I had muggle worries. Just as I pulled up to GZ an English couple pulled up on their bikes also, damn! The comment 'Let's stop here for a sandwich' was heard and that dashed any hopes of searching for this cache. So I decided to leave this one for now and head to Haeremaere Bridge for my last cache and on my return hope there was no one here and I could search in peace.
Upon my return the rain started to get quite heavy, the heaviest it has been all day but that didn't worry me, what worried me was muggles but it was pleasing to see a muggle free GZ, just the way I like it! After searching the wrong side of the track....oops, I quickly found the cache once in the right area. Just moments from putting the cache back another couple on bikes pulled up, wheww that was close!

Great to see the viaduct - hard to imagine that it was ot too long ago when this was a railway line in use. TFTC
Took the family on a joint bike ride and geocaching trip. Nice spot for a photo. TFTC
We are bit short of time this morning before we have to be back in Ohakune to pick up our runners from the end of the Goat. Its hard work getting the teenagers out of bed and then out of the house. Drove as far as we could to shorten the walk so felt a bit like we were cheating. The things we do to get geocaches. Great trail though and planning on biking some of it this afternoon as well as visiting a few more viaducts in the area. Great place to come. The sloth like teenagers now feel like they should be climbing all over the viaduct. Get a grip kids.
Came down with the kids to see our neighbors new bach at Horopito we decided to walk along cycle trail to get three caches then back to van and up the Mountain to get the Virtual cache up there. This was the first cache along the trail for us quick find in good condition. We really enjoyed our walk into the national park thanks for bring us here we will be back to do other end of trail.
I parked my snail shell up at the Ohakune Club and then gadded about picking up a few caches here, there, and everywhere.
This was quite an engineering feat. Loved the article about Fred's carrot. I also loved the DOC signpost that had the time to walk 9.4km was to the nearest minute - 2 hr 41 minutes.
Cheers for the cache.

Had no idea what to expect here. Got here and was like wow!! This is awesome. Couple girls were wandering along the planks underneath the bridge so were out of sight for us to make the hunt. Not sure why others haven't found this. Read hint and found the likely spot and came up with the goods.
It's definitely there. Thanks for another great placement. Tftc

Gave it a good look but couldn't find it. It's possible that it's been muggled, I noticed that the area around where this cache is hidden seems to be a popular spot for parking bikes.
I know you have just replaced this but I couldn’t see it. Biking trail with 11 yr old son.
Passing through on a cache maintenance walk today.
This one has ended up under water a bit in its hide against a rock, so the contents got damp.
Put in a new 400ml box, around half a metre from the original spot, under a small tree. Hopefully it will stay dryer here.
We will update the cache page and hint when we get back to town this afternoon.
