Logs
Previous logs threw me after I overlooked where it was as. Determination and cache in hand. TFTC
This is our first ever visit to Te Arai Regional Park and until a couple of weeks ago we didn't even know it existed. And it seems that many others don't either as on our drive up here we were in a line of traffic heading to Mangawhai but once we reached the turnoff to Te Arai we were the only ones who took it.After looking at the beach we unsuccessfully tried to find two caches near the carpark. The search for the first was abandoned due to muggles at GZ and the other was hidden in the dreaded flax and we ended up logging it as a DNF.We then tried looking unsuccessfully for a couple more as we walked the tracks in the hills and by the time we got to this one we were feeling like our geosenses had let us down. We initially had no luck with this one either but after reading the previous logs we gained a lot of intel about the changes to GZ, Gorby's replacement cache in 2022 and the movement of the hiding spot.Armed with this information we investigated a new location and located the sneaky little cache. And not a moment too soon as some muggles appeared just after we had re-hidden it and looked like they were going to hang around there for a while.Great views from up here and our geosenses were now back in action so we headed off to look for another with a renewed sense of achievement.
Noticed we hadnt visited this regional park yet and there are some more caches to find so headed over here today. The road to get here was very poor but when we arrived we were surprised to find so many people. Looks like there may have been a surfing competition or something this morning. After making our way up the hill and scrambling around the bush for our last find we searched around a bit at this GZ before finally getting another find. Great views from up here despite the rain that is now coming down.
( ) Out and about with supernanny in her neat little car, nice to be in the passenger seat and admire all the scenery up this way. Initially supernanny and I sat in the car after doing the flax cache, she was dithering whether she should go up the hill to this cache, I said: 'Go, go, you'll kick yourself if you don't" so I lent her my sunhat, made sure she had water and some fruit cake she made and off she went! I went and took shade under the big tree above the beach and ate some of her fruit cake too! Boy it was hot, she wasn't gone long, 30 mins, then we headed off - after some chocolate bikkies. Thanks G, changes again with this post that holds the cache...lol.
Very funny experience here. Was in the area...so was naturally very keen to avenge my DNF from 2017.Made the shortish climb...and took a while to find McArgister's post from his photo. No wonder...was totally hidden in grass as it has been chopped off to about 4 inches high.Luckily cache was still there.Have moved it back to the original post as photograghed by Gorby in his log. Thanks, Glyn, for show casing these amazing views....
Looked everywhere in the grass but didn't see anything, might have just missed it or might be missing
Glad I read previous logs highlighting new cache location. Quick find then. Tftc
Tried all the posts with no joy. Admired the view and only then did I see a photo clue in Gorby’s log. Being wary of the pest trap, I delved deeper into the grass at the photographed item and made the find. I hope the CO and Mr Gorbachov don’t mind but I re-hid it at the base of the post on the opposite side of the path to a) keep it away from the trap and b) match it to the original description of being careful of wires. New post in the photo. Thanks for the “wow of a time” cache.
I did not see anything that matched Gorby's description, and there is now an animal pest trap right next to the post.
OK... THIS cache... I walked up the hill huffing and puffing and down a little to get to GZ where I caught my breathe. I knew this cache was missing before getting here and I had brought along with me 2 different types of caches depending on the type of terrain or territory I would have to engage. There are several possible hides, but it would seem only one post that fitted the hint.
So I got out the 2 caches that I had with me and decided on one of them that would be suitable and discreet. I took a foto of the cache and the post it would be hidden at and sent it to the C,O for his appraisal,
So.... dear geocachers, look for a post as per the hint. it is a dark looking container, a bolt thing GL, can be opened either end.
Thanks G for bringing me here. I hope this cache will last a while and I have sent you a foto of the hide.

Wonderful day out at Te Arai Regional Park. A great find with a fantastic surf beach as well as some hidden gems of little coves.
Great walk up the cliffs enjoying the views. Found the first cache quickly so onto the next. A bit of a slog up the incline but well worth it for the 360° views. Soon had this cache in hand.
Beautiful day, great views and caches too! What more do you need on a Summer's day?! TFTC

Yep, agree with the sentiments -WOW! As soon as I got up to GZ and looked both ways it really is a great viewpoint to enjoy. Nice easy find here and back down the hill to the car park now.
Took a days leave today for a couple of reasons. Firstly it's my birthday today and with mrs c scheduled to be at work (she was off sick in the end though, and stayed at home), and secondly I wanted to head up to the Northernmost Regional Park at Te Arai, East of Wellsford. The sun came out, I was on the road nice and early and I managed to find the 20+ G_2 caches that would get me into 4 figures of finds by him. Thanks to all COs for their hides today, and the final cache find was 33. Like my age. Once upon a time!

Easy find with lethal wires, thanks for heads up! And gorgeous views. Our first visit to te arai. NINO TFTC
Last one of the series out here to get. Did not get this one a couple of years ago as a thunder storm came and stopped our geocaching adventure. We came up from the forestry south beach and joined onto the track. Took a few pics on the way up. Once at GZ cache was quick to locate. Signed and replaced before heading back down to the car via the beach. TFTC
Felt around the post, and was happy to locate the pill bottle
The log paper was very wet/damp, so again had to remove as it fell apart in my fingers.
Another WOW hide, just lovely here. Thanks for the adventure and hide G-2

A pill bottle rather than a v bottle. Rustynz had to move around the grass for this one. A wow find today
Definitely WOW. Found this with my love KKd on a stroll up the hill while the waves were flat. Easy find. Signed VKKd.
Nice views both ways. A bit hazy though but hot. Might be in the water again soon
Nice find while in the area with tmann421 today
Enjoying the trip north and the caches
Signed log as tm/ww NZ

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!

*Very nice walk up to this point.*

Found on day 22 of our TA thru-hike. This is a beautiful spot- from here we can see 2 beaches and almost a full day of hiking!
Today I went caching before, during and after the Mangawhai Walking Weekend. This was a lovely trail for that challenge: #16/20 tftc! This one was hidden well by mother nature, but was found in good condition after some time. What a gorgeous view, do I really have to go? Tftc!
Checked with CO if we could replace this cache. Had a good dig around at GZ but no luck. Have left a replacement container. No change to hints. TFTC
I wandered up here and had a hunt. This one probably needs a check from the CO as it's been a long since it was last found. More lovely views, thanks
Carried on up the hill to look for this one, but unfortunately, despite a very careful look at the corner, no cache was to be found. Very much suspect this one is now MIA. The views from up the top here are amazing though. Thx anyway.
I am sure we all had a thorough search at corner ....but nothing was revealed ....Sorry to say !
It is a beautiful day to combine waking with geocaching. Amazing views and sometimes very steep hills for 2 girls from Holland. TFTC

This cache hasn't been found since June 2016 and the grass has grown very thick which I just can't get through to find the cache.
Went for a Sunday stroll and collected a few caches. Nice weather and the view as always fantastic. TFTC
I was so happy today! The weather was quite nice (sunny and windy) and I was so lucky that I found Te Arai. I'm sure that I'll never find it without our great hobby. And it was fantastic!!! Such a lovely beachside and.... no one was there! Unbelievable for a German. In Central or Southern Europe such a beach would be crowed with people and the coast spoiled with hotels, streets and other bullshit. And I walked around to pick up all this lovely caches and enjoyed every moment.
Thank you so much for showing me this great place and for the caches. It was a pleasure!

In: A lot of favorite points for the awsome location.

Out and about today collecting caches placed in the vicinity of North Auckland. After my walk up the beach I determined to find the caches around the point before leaving for home today. Made my way up here from the previous hide and took in the great views. Cache was easily detected. Cheers for the exercise!
Vistra and I decided to spend the day grabbing some caches in Mangawhai and getting some on route up north.
Got to the top of this hill and enjoyed the beautiful views from up here, cache was a quick find. TFTC

I teamed up with yorkshirekiwi83 for a day of caching around the Mangawhai/Te Arai Point area. After walking up the beach to locate the caches North of the car park, we then wandered around the reserve at the South end of the beach, finding the caches around there. Another quick find here on our way over the hill. TFTC!

Absolutely WOW! Great views all around and a brilliantly sunny and calm day made for very blue seas and lush green. Glad we made it here today - sure wasn't expecting all the stunning views we've had. Only thing that would have made this find better was if it had been ou 600th. A sad DNF earlier is to blame for this being 599 instead.
Great description for the cache. Mrs B who was a little behind me on the climb offered up those very words as she reached GZ. TFTC
Found at 9:54. My first geocache on the North Island and first one for this trip to NZ! We stayed overnight nearby and came up here in the morning for the great views. Thanks for the cache.
WOW is just sooooooo right. The views to die for. Sat and enjoyed the Wow before heading along the track to the lookout. Thank you for sharing.
9572… WOW!!! Cool views and a great cache to mark our 500th G-2 cache, keep them coming… we are looking forward to the next 500. Many thanks for a cool milestone cache.
I came in from the southern beach (Forestry) to do this cache. Great day for a walk. What a lovely mown path.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
This has got to be one of the best vista in this area. Cloudy today with a fresh breeze off the sea - its good to be a New Zealander! t4tc
10.40am. Took the high road and all was well. No troubles with this one. The view is great, although it was fantastic from the other hill too> (Where I was at the wrong GZ) Worth a favourite for the view.
Thank you. David.

Definitely Worthy Of Walking up here! wasn't all that hard really, and the pathway pleasant & free enough of prickles to ditch the jandals. A Great view from up here, and WOW had a dejavu moment. hmmm, now which way to go? the lovely greenway beckoned, so went further down & out in search of the Forestry Lookout. TFTC and the walk down memory lane
WOW is right as the views of both beaches on either side were awesome. It was well worth the climb up to this spot. We were lucky to miss the rain as the sky was starting to turn dark. Great spot for a cache. TFTC,
Out exploring the Te Arai area today, lured a little further north this afternoon by these new caches. Followed the grassy track along from the Te Arai / Forestry Trail #1 cache to this spot. WOW! is aptly named. Very overcast today, but the views of the beach stretching into the distance in either direction are stunning. Must be glorious on a hot sunny day. Thanks for bringing us here.
We were debating whether to continue on along the track to the other caches, or whether we should do those from the other end when the rain began. That settled it - we made our way back to the carpark, but were soaked by the time we go there.

One of the things I love about geocaching is that it gives me incentive to get out and about and climb hills. In this case the new cache and potential FTF spurred me on. As the description says, just "wow" the views were so worth it, as was the brand new log. TFTC! Joint FTF with Lycurgon.
A wonderful view from up here. Another FTF, our 5th for the day, 6th one in total.
Joint first to find with Anastriel. TFTC.

Wow indeed - what a beaut view from the top of the hill. Another good quick find, leaving us more time to enjoy the vista... DOUBLE beaches! Found with rosmar on our afternoon caching run. +1 fave for the view! TFTC!!!
