Logs
Travelled from Gisborne to ptiki today and picked up a few caches along the way. Parked on the main highway and walked the short distance to this one. #6910. TFTC.
Had a good look & then spotted a cable tie with nothing attached. Then I saw a film canister in the mud. We replaced the log & returned canister to the cable tie. Cool viaduct.
After going back and forth across the road and back, finally found a likely looking spot but no cache. Cache found on floor, with soaking wet log. Replaced log with nice dry one and put cache back in hidey hole. Tftc
Quick find while driving from Gisborne to Opotiki. Tftc and greetings from Finland.
A slight detour to grab this one. Wouldn't have known it was here otherwise.
Thanks for putting this here

We had lost our GPS earlier in the trip and lost coverage for our phone on the trip to Gisborne then had a could not search at a cache so we were very happy to turn off the road here when we had coverage back and find a cache in the first place checked.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Visited this spot during my East Cape Easter 2021 journey.
GPS pointed me to an opposite side...
All OK at GZ

Great hide and not what I was expecting. We walked from the highway. A pleasant enough walk. TFTC
Found this one while on holiday away from our home in Whangamata Thanks for a great cache.
very sneaky place, very obvious, don’t over think its hiding spot. very unique place. glad no trains were coming
They certainly had some grand schemes as to where railway lines should go in New Zealand. It was good to see what is left of this viaduct. TFTC.
We made the small diversion from the main road to look for this one.
Such an interesting piece of history and quite sad to see this impressive structure sitting here forgotten.
Such a dusty road today and all bushes were also covered with dust making everything look a bit like a old photograph and really made us feel like we had stepped back in time.
Thanks gpsbrd and family for bringing us here.

A nice quick find today with Ms_KR. Old log replaced so all good to go.
Christmas holiday road trip to Auckland. Day seven, from Gisborne to Whakatane.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Weve been on an epic journey the last couple of weeks. On our way home now. Coverage was marginal but this looked interesting. We parked on the main road and walked in. Impressive pillars. The log is absolutely munted, wet and hard to write on. Thanks for bringing us here.
Took a few minutes to locate..I guess the foliage has grown a tad as has the thorny guardian ..unfortunately the log was mush...with some patience I unravelled the mess and found a place to sign...great structures a d worthy of a cache ...just needs a new water proof log and it will brand new ..thanks
Awesome weekend away with the Team from BOP which this weekend consists of myself Philip.Perry, McJandals and Nzflossy. On our way home now via Hawke's Bay Gisborne getting the TMGT caches.

The crazy Labour Weekend plan is now in full swing. McJandals, NZFlossy & Davidson Clan are joining me for 29 TMGT Caches, the Manawatu Shield & Stickman series then whatever we can find in between. This was our final stop for this trip and another neat location even though the sun had long since set. We had the place to ourselves and the cache was found quickly but not in the best condition. Log needs replacing. I’m using a Cachly logging template so it's mostly cut'n'paste but I genuinely appreciate the work put into these caches. I’d also like to acknowledge watcache, mar1sa & the TMGT volunteers who have given this trip focus, and all the other COs who have made this trip such an adventure - TFTC

Found on my trip north enjoying the caches in the area. Log book wet didn't have a spare one
The log is Papier mache. Took a photo of the cache to prove I found it. Sorry didn't have a spare log with me. TFTC
Rain, rain and more rain, oh wait some mud as well just to add to the mix. Headed off this little side road and with no one else around meant me could make a quick find of the cache despite getting soaked and the log book was even wetter than us. This cache requires some maintenance.
We stopped and had a look, but trying to find a cache in the soaking foliage in the rain was less than appealing.
Cool history. Yet another rail relic from nz.
Container is there. Log is wet. Unable to write on it. Needs replacing. ~Olmorg

After a fleeting, spur of the moment visit to Gisborne for the FTF of the new Virtual, we are on our way back to Auckland. This one looked like it would be a quick little detour off the highway. Decided to save time by dropping her off to make the find, while he drove the camper on to turn around. Well, after a little searching she had found the container (very wet logbook and impossible to sign) , but he had still not returned. Seems he had to go 2.5kms to the nearest farm driveway, and that had vehicles on it, so he had to go even further to turn. We suggest future finders do what we should have done, and park near the bus stop and walk to the viaduct. Interesting railway history, thanks.
Found.... log book very very wet. So far into the barbers bush that you can’t reach it to ensure the lid is tightly on which is why it’s wet managed to sign it though
Cache soon found by me in its very neat hiding place, after a couple of lorries going to the quarry had passed by. Log nice and dry in its 2 plastic bags and all well. Many thanks
Travelling around the world with Dartmoor Deliverer celebrating her taking early retirement!
NB Dont forget our Devon UK Mega 2017 GC6JZNY this August in the beautiful East Devon area of our county. UK Megas are over one week full of events and geocaching - a wonderful way to enjoy our county!

Out with Red Roaming as we continue to explore New Zealand on our holidays here. loving this spectacular country. Logs signed with our full names or DD & RR to save space. The weather to day is lovely and sunny but a bit of a breeze. RR soon had this one in hand after a short look around. TFTC
Dnf w/ shahuhugrub was raining. Really cool structures though, never knew they existed TFTC
A nice quick find today on our way through the gorge. THe HOAC introduced me to a new game today - to see if you could find the log, get it signed, and back into it's hiding place before the other searchers knew. This was the cache where they tried it out on me! luckily I'd noticed one member standing up, not stooped over
Headed down to Gisbourne with RWIMF and Cats&Dragons to grab the last few caches C&D needed for his DSGC Challenge that he's been working on for what seems like forever. With a very hard and fast set time we had to be home, this meant that with the amount of km's that we needed to cover a 2am start was needed.
All in all the day was a huge success and all the caches we attempted were found and we were back home in time too (just), also a bonus for me was that we were able to detour slightly to get the Gisbourne CANZ cache. A big thanks to all the CO's for the placements and congrats to C&D for finishing his challenge.

I moved my caravan from Gisborne up to Matawai with the hope of signing off a few caches in the vicinity.
A pity the bridge has been dismantled.
Cheers for the cache.

I abandoned geomobile at the bus stop and went for a stroll along the quiet country lane
And it was not long before the remains came into view
Surrounded by lush green forest,
the pillars resemble an Inca or Maya ruin lost in the jungle [:o]
And the cache was soon found after a bit of mucking around
Thanks for a relaxed getaway from the highway madness [^]

Was looking on the wrong side for a while. Bit of a prickly grab but nothing ladda couldn't handle!
On the way back home after a road trip around the East Cape and of course collecting caches on the way.
Drove up this little road to GZ and after initially starting the search on the wrong side of the road found the cache on the other.
Would have never come and seen this apart from geocaching.
Thanks for bringing us here.

11.05am - Great shame to see all this infrastructure now not in use. Had driven past this road and had to make a U turn back. At first I started looking on wrong side of road, then the Squirrel found cache. All Okay. SLTFTC
With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... After five months of grief, it's time for another serious attack on our current caching license. We're heading east to target seven high difficulty caches, and anything else that catches our attention...
Historic railway caches are always worth visiting... It's interesting to find bits of old infrastructure such as these old piers. Obviously, they were built to last. What a shame the rail network didn't make it through to the Bay of Plenty... We struggled to locate this one quickly, as our iPhone seemed to point out into the water. Knowing that this would be unlikely, we widened our search and found the cache elsewhere... Not too difficult in the end. TFTC.

On the way home after a great road trip - loved the history here and pleased to make the find for this one - thanks for the history and the cache
We found this cache during our drive between Gisborne and Rotorua.
A quick stop and we found the cache.
Greetings from Portugal.
#9944, Found it with DroidCachebox!
We visited this cache during our trip through out New Zealand!
With our rental car, we explored the north island for 12 days.
NZ is a beautiful country and we really enjoyed our time here.
We hope to return one day and explore a little bit more!
Day 5 - Gisborne to Rotorua
The day started in Gisborne, where we explored a little bit of the city and looked for some caches. After that we visited many places along the route to Rotorua, mainly along road trough the Waioeka gorge and in the coast.
Thanks for the cache.

Nice bit of history here. Appreciate your description. Walked last 250m. Nice to see river. A fav for us. NINO TFTC
A plan was hatched for a lonely cache adventure and a cluster of cachers soon signed up. After a 4am start we met up with the others and after a brief planning session and caffine top up, we were on our way. We clocked up a few miles and the 4WDs were a handy TOTT to enable easier access to some of the caches (probably why they are so lonely) and both looked well travelled at the end of the day. A fun autumn caching adventure in great company and this was the last find for us before we headed back TFTC.
Out caching up a storm as with Alpenmilch80, signing the log as ACDC (Alpenmilch80, Cats&Dragons Caching Tour). What a great way to be spending a rainy day than caching with friends and seeing the countryside area here
Last one down this way then a quick turnaround for Opokiti collecting caches along the way
So again thank you for the FUN of the hunt

Out and about today with 11hpg11, rosmar and Cats&Dragons to find some lonely geochaches (distance & last found) in the area. I was very keen to join when I caught word of the plans to give my new car an off-roading practice run. The end result was a very dirty car and a happy owner. Had an awesome time out with the crew.
Geocache was quickly located and signed. TFTC

Another mission, a new area this time. The plan was to do some off-roading and 4x4 caches, plus a few others in the area. Cats&dragons and I set off on Friday night and had an amazing light show of sheet lightning and heavy rain. Our spirits were not dampened though and we made the long slog to Opotiki. We worked out our plan of attack for the next morning and found a few great looking caches to check out. We were meeting up with Rosmar and Alpenmilch80 in the morning before heading to some wild country.
Our last one down this way before getting back on the main road and heading back toward home. Interesting spot with a nice bit of history

so cool to see these monoliths standing out of the bush like something from stone hedge. tftc. watch out for the thorns.
After a two day trip around East Cape and a full on weekend convention in Gisborne we are on our way home to Rotorua through the gorge. Lots of caches to pick up on the way.
Wow, would you look at that. Isn't it amazing what you find when out Geocaching. Been along this road loads of times and never knew this was here. Fascinating bit of history. Took a while to locate the cache, GPS and iPhone not co-operating so caching instincts called on and Mr S spotted it. Road was wet and muddy and a light misty rain added atmosphere.
Thanks gpsbrd for taking us there. Gets a FAV.

GPS pointed to the river abutment devoid of foliage but on reading other logs maybe was on the bank side. Next time.
Call in on the way to Matawai today Yes we find it today after about 4 four go at it TFTRC

Didn't find this one - looks like a lot of foliage has been cleared near the concrete - maybe it has gone - or perhaps we were looking in the wrong place!
Surprised there were not more recent finds, as when I came in this road, I counted almost 40 4x4 vehicles covered in dust, leaving. What? No caches among the lot? I find THAT hard to believe.

Fascinating Railway history that we were not aware of, had no idea that the Rakauroa Viaduct was located here, many thanks for showing us.

Needed help here and thanks to Sefrican's further hint I had the cache in hand on my second attempt. For future cache hunters, think high not low. TFTC!
Very excited when we looked and saw that there were no logs. really thought we were first. No problem though it's good enough that we found it. TFTC
Found with Sefrican and were hoping for an FTF but Pogar beat us so at least we have a 2TF
Well tucked and almost oversaw it.
TFTC, left a pathtag

Well this was a surprise. Nearly 4 months old and still a pristine log book. Thanks for that. We will claim the FTF. Just about gave up on this one before realizing there are two great lumps of concrete and the cache was in the only really likely place. Then spent the rest of the trip to Gisborne trying to identify the old railway line.
Cache still safely in its hiding spot - well away from drop off's/river! Happy hunting..
