#15484 - 10:25; Day 14 of the great USA and Canada Road Trip with Sol de lune, and the first leg which has taken us from Minneapolis through to Washington DC, is nearly done with our arrival in DC last night. Today we are visiting Arlington National Cemetery before heading back across the river to the National Mall.Collected this virtual as we made our way around Arlington, amazed by the size of the place and visiting some of the notables as we went. Gathered the required information, which was sent to the CO who gave a quick OK.Greetings from Australia and TFTC Bigcall Smile

We were off to the USA and Canada for a few weeks of holiday, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling around, and visiting the many different places and caches we came across Big Grin

We headed off to Arlington today, and this cache was first up on our list to grab. We headed in towards GZ, and we very glad to be actually able to visit this spot. We took our time looking around, before silently grabbing the information we needed, and heading off to the final GZ. After a quick walk, we soon spotted the likely object, and made our way closer, where we grabbed the remaining information Big Grin A great spot here, and one everyone should visit!

TFTC bigcall, our answers have been submitted, and a fav point from us!

Found it at 1143 hrs during a long hot hike through the cemetery this morning.

Some easy math at the first waypoint, and then a surprise at the second. I had no idea this was here.

Thanks for the fun!

My nongeocaching hubby and I were invited to spend 4 days in DC with my son and daughter-in-law who was going there to attend a convention. I've been to DC a few times but that was before caching so caching was my mission for this trip. I didn't plan my walk through here very well and ended up walking past the second memorial twice before I was finally made to stop and see what it was. Thanks for making me stop and really look.

Day two of our Virginia Challenges, Mission 4, Cache Run; SillyWillie (Keith Nelson), CM_Ranch (Matt Morrison) and I are hitting the Northeastern section of the state. Our base camp for the weekend is at Burke Lake Park. 10th of 30 caches found today; we are taking the self-guided tour of Arlington while gathering the facts required to claim the find. There are so many stories here, should be a required visit for anyone visiting the area. Solved the clues at 1039 hours and have sent the answers to the questions. Next one to solve is “Decades of Service”, TFTC

The last time I was In Arlington National Cemetery I attended my brother-in-law's full military funeral. Although a sad day it was very impressive. I suggest every American should attend an honors military funeral. The weather was terrible so Cassie and I only accomplished my goal by completing this find. Here is a Favorite. TFTC

This was actually a very difficult cache for me... Not because of the puzzle, but because the 7th person listed on the monument at the second site was a friend of mine. I was taken aback to see her name, but I was glad I could pay my respects to an old friend here.

Klossner sent the email that contains the answers to the puzzles.

A little math, a little walking and the result was a stirring surprise. Every visit to this cemetery, I find something new to be in awe of, inspired by, and they are all slightly heart breaking. This was no exception.

Thank you.

Had a nice walk around Arlington today. Thanks for bringing me to a memorial I didn't know was here. Emailed answers to CO.

I decided that on my day off I was either going to go geocaching or relax at home playing Xbox. Then I thought “Why not do both?” I loaded the GPS with all the caches in Arlington Nation Cemetery (ANC) and began my day of caching. If you plan to do all the caches in ANC make sure you bring great walking shoes and know where the restrooms are in the cemetery. I also ran into a few caches from Austria during my hike through ANC. Thanks for the caches and the history.

In DC doing some sightseeing and got to spend a big part of the day at Arlington. There were some neat virtuals to do here, including this one. Don't think we would've necessarily gotten to see all that we did without the virtuals here. Thanks for the virtual offset with math! Email sent and pic posted of the eternal flame.

Visited WP1 – no question we wouldn’t of course ! – and calculated GZ. Got there and grabbed the info for the CO. I have actually visited the location this event took place a while ago and the impressive memorial there ! Well worth visiting this location among so many here at Arlington!

Today I took off to a bigger hike, enjoying the sun and air. Started off in the Roosevelt Island and then moved on to the Arlington Cemetary. That was a really good portion of exercise.

I enjoyed the views provided in this cache and the questions guided me to be really attentive to the small things. Very impressive place to be - and unexpected second monument. Thanks for bringing me to these places!

Thanks for the pleasure of the cache and being here!

Spent the morning at Arlington....our first visit. Walked around for a few hours in the heat and visited many interesting and historical spots. The changing of the guards was very special

After doing the required calculations, I headed over to the GZ hoping all was right. Arrived at GZ and was surprised by the spot and what monument was there.......I certainly remember that.

Info sent off, response received and cache logged.

Thanks to bigcall for showing me the areas.......Fav point added.

This week one of us had to be in the DC area for a scientific conference. After the conference ended I had one day left to wander around Washington DC and to look for some of the many caches around there. As I had been in DC before I decided to start visiting the places I had not been before. After walking around the Theodore Roosevelt Island I walked along the Potomac to the entrance of Arlington Cemetery. This virtual showed me two very interesting sites. The first very well known, the other in a much more quiet part of the cemetery. But it was impressing to be there alone. Thanks for this virtual! I emailed the answers to the cache owner.

11728 16:16:00 Spent the first part of the day grabbing some challenge caches and then the latter part wandering round DC again. Grabbed quite a lot of virtuals (there aren't many back home in England, so it's nice to be able to get some when you get the chance). COming from the UK, this is quite an appropriate cache.

Visited Arlington National cemetery during our trip to Washington. Used the caches as a guide to which site we should visit, (as well as the tomb of the unknown soldier). Sobering place.

This cache was the main target for today as it was one of the few easy Jasmer grid knockouts I have nearby. I had been meaning to make it down for sometime and never got around to it. Went down with my daughter today and the weather was great.

I am not sure my brain was awake when we started as it seemed to take me a long time to do the math to figure out the location of the second. But after swapping back and forth on GPS screens for a bit I was able to get it loaded correctly.

The walk over was nice. We arrived at the cemetery about 10:00 and the weather was perfect for walking. Was getting a little too warm by the time we left a little after noon so glad we had an early start.

04-Aug-13
This is our first day in the area and Arlington National Cemetary was our primary destination. We enjoyed our time exploring all the history here while grabbing virtual caches at the same time. We even found the kid's great grandfather who is buried here. Will send email with answers. TFTC. Chris

I am in the area from Savannah Georgia for work and of course I remembered my G P S'r so that I could feed this addition of Geo Caching. The coordinates for this cache were accurate and it did not take me too long to have the needed information or log in hand, depending on the type of cache. Thanks for putting this together and for bringing me to this area.
I came to Arlington to pay my respects to my fallen comrades and to get a few more smiles on the Geo map. I made this a little harder than it should have been but eventually found it. I had no idea this was here but it definitely deserves a spot on these hallowed grounds.
Remember, it is all about the miles and the smiles Smile~TFTC

We came up to Baltimore to see my grandmom is not doing good, and met a lot of family I have never met, and in some cases I was only 5. I am 37 now, so its been a long time. We had to break away and see DC one of the days and it was perfect weather for it. We had a awesome day, and it felt like we probably walked at least 10 miles lol...answers will come soon, they are on the other half's phone.

This was an interesting find. I nearly missed it until I realised that I had done the calculations wrong, Luckily I was still nearby and able to reach the correct coordinates quickly. Pity it isn't a little more prominent. Cheers Gav [128]
