The local best ever 2014 treasure suggested to go and visit this one.
So we did.
But it was like yesterday's newspaper.
It was out of date.
But by just a little.
The letterbox was there.
But that is all there was.
It would have been easy to put a copy of our interpretation of that newspaper but
Once we asked around it was found that no one longer lived here.
We missed our introduction by just a few days

Such is life.

Find #: 4022
Time: 12:17 pm
Date: Sun 23 Aug 2015
Today I spent the day in Ballarat, attending a CITO, and afternoon tea event, and some miscellaneous caching along the way as well.
Well this was a fair climb for an old 65 year old. Unfortunately when I reached the cache, the bucket was there but the sistema and log book were not.
I took a photo and left a pathtag as proof that I'd been there, and I hope the CO accepts that as sufficient to log a find.
Unfortunately if I'd known, I could have fixed it up, but one climb was enough for me here today, sorry.
Thanks for placing this cache stooy

01-Aug-15
With help from the monkeys AKA Chris and Kaitlin, we were happy to put our names on the log for this one. TFTC

01-Aug-15
Didn't break any limbs, I had a tree climbing proxy. Smile TFTC

01-Aug-15
After an hour of bending over picking up foam rubbish, it was quite a buzz to have Kaitlin and Chris shinny up to this cache which was so..oo.o high up and kindly give us all the chance to sign the log. A challenge beyond our years...if one's being sensible! So we are grateful to log this cache along with the rest of the crowd that were there. Big Grin

01-Aug-15
Im also very happy to be able to log this one with the help of Chris and Kaitlin, the tree huggers. Thanks heaps and thanks stooy for the cache.

01-Aug-15
Oh so happy to have this one crossed off the list!
Many of us stood and watched Kaitlin re climbed this tree in gumboots. She was so brave and willing to do it too. It was a tough job as I believe the level had been raised somewhat. Eventually the male member of the Tritonz helped out and scaled the tree so quickly it was unbelievable.
Then disappointment took over as he called out the log was missing.
A quick flurry of activity soon rectified that and the container and log with signatures were replaced.
So many thanks to Kaitin, and The Tritonz ( I owe you big time) for succcess here.
TFTC stooy

01-Aug-15
WOW what a challenge but thanks to a volunteer adventurous monkey and the help of a very fit young man, all was accomplished without the old lady needing to be rescued from a height she had no business being at. TFTC

01-Aug-15
Perfect timing to come here and watch a good tree climber to do for all of us after CITO.
Happy to cross out one of my to do list.!
Big thanks to Kaitin, and The Tritonz

With help of many other geocachers and their climbing skills was able to log this cache. I am not nimble enough to be able to get this by myself. TFTC.

01-Aug-15
Found this one during the CITO event.
The cache was missing but is now replaced with a new one.
Added my name to the log.
Thanks stooy!

01-Aug-15
The weather started off looking shocking this morning, but by the time the CITO started it had moderated to just very cold. Bettyboo3747 and I travelled to Ballarat for both events and a few odd caches around the area.
There were lots of lookouts, but only two climbers today. When I arrived a small girl (in gum boots!) nearly made it up to the bucket. Impressive effort!
She was replaced with a very speedy Tritonz, who zipped up the tree only to find an empty bucket.
A new cache was promptly produced with a lot of signatures in it, mine included.
Thanks, Robmc.

01-Aug-15
We think a cherry picker would have got bogged here today, so we were very grateful for Chris from Tritonz climbing and retrieving skills. There were plenty of us cheering him on as he reached the container - only to find it EMPTY! A new cache and log sheet was quickly found, signed by all around 11.20am and Chris took it back up the tree to its lofty perch. # 2979 TFTC stooy and three cheers for Chris from Tritonz for doing the hard yards.

01-Aug-15
# 8575. Robmc and I arrived in Ballarat yesterday to attend the two Events today. Although the weather was wet and miserable early on out at Lake Burrumbeet it turned into a pleasant day for picking up rubbish and finding some caches.

Adding my name to the new log book in the new container was a well-earned bonus, after the hard yakka of cleaning up. We watched in awe as a small girl with gumboots got to within close range but couldn't manage to go the final distance. Then Mr Tritonz took over and scaled agilely upwards to find the empty bucket. All good to go again now thanks to various attending cachers.

Thanks stooy

Out with some fellow cachers TAJBENTLEY & FMS4. Awesome cache in a interesting spot. We did see a burnt out car an possibly the shoe of someone who didn't make it back down. Thanks stooy for the cache placement, next time can you set the thermostat up a little ☺

Arrived at GZ and thought that's not to bad until I tried to take the first step, needed a little nearby help. The climb is trickier than it looks especially in the wet (not advised).
Made it to the cache now to get back down.
Thanks for the cache stooy

17-May-15
OMG the stink from the factories nearby was incentive to get up and down in good time. Tree was eminently climbable though I really appreciated the shopping trolley left nearby to give a little extra height for the start. No broken limbs on us thank goodness. TFTC

Great cache. Loved the tree climb, really high. Found with KH2ici. Thanks for the cache

Ticked climbing a massive tree off the bucket list

17-Feb-15
Cache zombified.
Found the cache on the ground. It certainly made signing the log a lot easier! But I still got to do the climb while carrying the cache back up to the bucket. Cache now in good order and back in its place. Fav point for the climb.

Found in the company of those attending a nearby CITO event. A group assault of this cache was required and many names were added to the log. Thanks for the hide and I am very glad to have this one finally ticked off.

Group assault at CITO event. Awesome cache. My part was played by having pen to sign log! Lol

14-Dec-14
Thanks to Tom and Lucy we signed the log. We hadn't gotten around to finding this one so was happy the CITO was so close! Thanks stooy fav point added too.

14-Dec-14
Found with Dad and lots of others.
Eddie missed out LOL.
Thanks stooy.

14-Dec-14
Found by Mary & David at 1035. Realised as we were here for the CITO that there was a cache very close by. We don't usually do tree caches these days in case we live up to cache names like this. Most of the CITO teams lined up to take their turn, and there was no shortage of willing and agile young climbers to help out. Our thanks to stooy.

Thanks to Tom and Lucy for their climbing abilities, I and many others had the chance to sign the log.

Were at an event right near this cache and some very agile children climbed up and retrieved the cache.
So we did sign the logbook along with many others at the event.

Our second night of Ballarat caching was reserved for high terrain caches. This one was high on my list of caches to find.
We came armed with a few kids in tow who were eager to scale the tree again, but when we arrived we quickly saw that the cache was now spread out all over the place. We managed to retrieve the container and logbook though whilst the kids were already at the top of the tree.
Not to be outdone I quickly tucked the cache in my shirt and went up to the bucket myself. After all, if you want to claim a high terrain cache, you don't want to do this by remaining on the ground.

After I came down again and tried to look up the cache I noticed it was disabled. It looks like the locals are aware of the 'bucket in the tree' and take great pleasure in sabotaging the cache. What a shame, as it is such a nice (and safe) tree to climb.

Tftc stooy

Disabled.. awaiting new improved container

Found on the ground opened up. Picked up what we thought were the contents. Please note this is not a child friendly area with broken glass and other objects underneath. But loved the idea. TFTC

After being offered a weekend caching to and from Ballarat with Tounga and Moneydork, how could I refuse[?] Wink
Sushilord joined us too and for 3 days we laughed and cached and laughed and cached until we could cache no more. Big Grin [|)]
As for the topics of conversation, apparently mirth, maniacal murder and mayhem were the common themes for the weekend along with a few other topics Wink
My total for a great weekend was 1 event attended in Ballarat Cool, 113 cache finds Smile 7 DNFs Sad and a FTF as I wound my way home, alone, in the early morning Cool

Sadly, it seems the locals use this area for a hangout...literally! Sad
The cache was on the ground and scraps of log book laying around in the grass for about 30m from the tree Sad
We patched the cache back together and replaced it. Looking at logs now, weeks later, as I log it seems it has since been spread around again Sad

TNLN. SL. TFTC stooy Smile

05-Oct-14
Found on the weekend attack on Mexican caches by a couple of Kiwis and a couple of Aussies, surprisingly there were no slayings although we talked a lot about maniacal murders along the way.

No broken limbs here today. We found plenty of broken furniture and the cache scattered around the area. It was patched up and replaced up there.

Thanks for the cache stooy.

Based on our experience and that of another finder I suggest the CO pick up the cache and make it temporarily unavailable for a short time, I'd say some muggles are aware of it and either doesn't like the cache being there or has found some 'valuable' trinkets in the cache at some stage.

05-Oct-14
We found the remains of the cache scattered about the tree.
Put it back together as best we could, with a new logbook and replaced it up the tree.
Needs an owner check. Looks like kids frequent this area after hours.

05-Oct-14
Found on a fantastic weekend away with Moneydork (Hero Husband), Locus Cache and Sushilord. It was not a quiet trip but oh so worth it! Lots of caching, lots of laughter and finally some sleep thrown in when we just couldn't carry on!
Thanks for your cache and helping make our weekend so great.

TFTC! The boys went up the tree and I got to chat with the police Smile the were actually looking for a reported fire that was supposed to be in the area. They really didnt care about the guys way up the tree. Found abit of mud for the geo jeep Smile fun times!

Had a great time finding this

31-Aug-14
Had a great time with this one , half way up and police coming the decision was made to keep going and get the log signed before we were asked to come down . With one of us waiting below it turns out the police were called out for a fire that was reported and did not even see us up in the tree until it was explained what we are doing there and they just had a laugh when asked if they wanted us to bring it down ( just to make us climb down then back up again) They had never heard of Geocaching before and didn't have a problem with the cache so all is well , Thanks for the climb, the cache and the adventure Smile

31-Aug-14
It's getting way too close to midnight - I gotta get the event logged to get my souveneir!!... I hate do do this, but full log to follow...
awesome as always stooy

ok, it's a reasonable hour and I've got a nice cup of Java to assist me, let's try this again Smile
Grippy the Gecko was getting impatient, as he loves a good climb, so we bee-lined across town to check this one out.
Arriving at ground zero, and deciding which tree the cache must reside in, we circled it untill we got a visual on the hide... if thats 8 metres i'll eat my hat, i muttered to myself as i hoisted myself onto the first rung.. OhDang and I raced each other up on opposite sides of the possible Ent, but as we neared the cache, I realised I was on the dodgy side, discovering how the cache got its name only after grabbing and utilising said limbs.. all good though, they still seem sturdy enough, but I didn't use them any further.
I levelled with the cache and realised OhDang had arrived at the same time.. A tie it was then.
funnily enough, I'd not noticed the police approaching or arriving for that matter, so it came as a surprise when I looked down and saw the blue and white. haha luckily theres no crime in tree climbing, and the couches were not deposited by us, all good fun eh? I wonder if the constable will return to check it out when he is off duty.

cheers for the fun stooy, I was hoping to find one of yours on my visit today.. Purgatory in Drysdale hooked me Wink

Found with Eminor93 on a geocaching trip to Ballarat. Another Stooy tree cache! After completing a few in Bendigo it was good to find another one in Ballarat. This one is a bit higher than others I'd previously found but I had no trouble getting to it and making my way back down. Thanks for the cache.

past a TB on the a group from Geelong to place here

29-Jul-14
We planned a big day out caching in Ballarat, leaving with a crew from Geelong and meeting up with fellow cachers in Ballarat.
We had some great fun at this location, and took our time observing GZ. TheTritonz once again made it look very easy - which it definitely wasn't.
I only saw the link to the cache title after the log was signed.
Thanks for placing this cache, stooy - all the way up there!Cool

29-Jul-14
This was my fourteenth find on a trip to Ballarat on a windy and cold winter's day. In the early hours we convened in Geelong and set off up the highway - Na'wal, Roads75, ThePacman, DAB, The_Tritonz and I. With two vehicles in our little convoy, there were various stops along the way for a few caches here and there before we finally reached town.
And then the fun began. A few caches under our belts before it was time for a quick coffee stop and then it was off into the wind for more finds before lunch. We looked, we found, we calculated, some of us climbed and paddled for the communal cause. We were joined in some of our adventures by Wozzle68, ST37E and Shamus1 who were all keen to show us the sights and sounds - and of course, all the best caches in town Big Grin!
We approached GZ with a fair idea of what we were in for and whilst the ground crew cheered, the climb was made, the cache was found and the log was signed.
Thanks stooy for an impressive hide Big Grin!

Wow, what a climb that's gunna take. SurprisedSurprisedSurprised There was no way any of us were going to attempt to scale that.....Hang on, wait a minute, what about Chris from The Tritonz ??? Chris was up to the challenge, this would be his second tree climb today. He made it look so easy I was almost going to attempt it myself. But then that moment of insanity soon passed....RazzRazzRazz Thanks again Chris !! No broken limbs ( so far ) today.A fave point from me. TFTC stooy Cool

29-Jul-14
Found! This area is need a CITO, but I did find a new king throne here to sit in and we watched some tv too Wink One half of the Tritonz was again our climbing monkey. Wow some people are fast climbers Wink It was a long way away. A great hide!

Buckleysbabe, DAB, Pacman, the Tritonz and Roads75 and I planned a road trip from Geelong to Ballarat today to enjoy the sights as well as pick up some finds. We teamed up with some locals while here Wozzle68, ST37E and Shamus1. We all had a great day, lots of laughs and various amounts of hides were found Big Grin Lucky for us the rain held off for most of the day until our last 2 finds.

TFTC Smile Took nothing left a TB.

15-Jul-14
Hmmmm, ok, I admit I have a problem. Recently I have had an obsession with DT combos. This little "issue" of mine has now made me drive two and a half hours across the state to climb a slippery pine tree in the pouring rain and howling winds. Briefly, during my climb up I looked down and had to stop for a few seconds while I questioned what the hell I was doing half way up this tree in the pouring rain by myself and with no-one else knowing I where I was. The answer obviously was, "because you need the DT combo".

So I completed the rest of the climb and once at GZ I held on for dear life while I opened the container with one hand, opened the log with one hand and signed the log "day" with one hand. Replacing was different and really required two hands. I balanced precariously as I re-clipped the container and once this was done, it was replaced and the trip down as usual was infinitely more enjoyable than the trip up.

Thanks stooy for the cache, I ususally prefer tree climbs in the dark when I can't see how high I am, but it was nice to get out and do this one none-the-less. A great challenge!

13-Jun-14
While it had been a little wet we went over and had a look at the likely tree. We could not see the cache but could see something that would fit the cache name. Getting stated is often the hardest part but we found some old junk nearby and we where off. A few tricky bits but not too bad. Once up we spotted the cache and soon had it in had. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC. We watched some muggles go by and then went down.

Found on our "Making Memories" tour of Mainland Australia.

Today we explored Ballarat with whitewebbs using geocaching as our guide.

Some people will do anything for a smiley and Mr T made the climb. Happy to report no broken limbs and the log was signed. A challenge that we conquered and a favourite point coming our way.

Find #120

In Ballarat for a couple of days over the long weekend so getting a few caches in of course. Saw this one come up with the high difficulty and terrain rating and thought it would be fun to try. Tarbit hasn't climbed any trees for a few years and was keen to give this a go despite the stress fracture in the foot. We actually parked on the wrong side for this one and had a trek to get to GZ. Not a very pleasant area with a lot of rubbish dumped around the trees but we spotted it from ground level and the climb was on.

A boost up to get Tarbit going and she was on the way. I gave some direction from ground level but Tarbit did all the work and had the cache in hand in no time. Signed log and made some small swaps (taking a elephant for geobaby and leaving a medal and bangle for the next star to take on this climb). As others have noted there was no sign of the Little Pony TB. Thanks for a great cache stooy and our first 4 star difficulty I think.

19-Feb-14
Thanks to geokids, climbing the big tree. Great adventure with friends.

19-Feb-14
This cache has been on our radar for quite a while now. We made a plan to do this one as a group after school today with several caching teams. All caching teams met at GZ with two trained monkeys in tow in the form of Rehfisch geokid and Glanville Girls geokid. After an initial boost the geokids scrambled up the tree in no time. The monkeys realised, once at the top, that they'd forgotten the pen?!? Whaaaat???! So, the cache was lowered to sign and the climb was made to the top again to conceal in its very clever container. Thanks for another excellent cache Stooy. Your caches are always favourites and this one is no different.

19-Feb-14
All my Geoing friends turned up for this find. Geo girls made the climb, think it was more than 8 metres. A very successful find. Thanks to the girls and to Stooy. A favourite from me.

19-Feb-14
Cool cache. The geogirls made the climb. Thanks for the hide.

19-Feb-14
This was another mass find. Caching with Motndarg, Glanville Girls, Rehfisch Clan, beckster22, Tomstache, The Lookabouts, Nettie1234 and $doo, the geogirls scrambled up the tree. It was a long way up. More than 8m I think. Anyway, the log book was passed down, all signed and the log book went back up. Now, for some arvo tea! No trackables today. A favourite from me, thanks stooy.

19-Feb-14
Back in Ballarat caching with a group of geo friends. We found this on another trip but we were unable to sign the log. Luckily the geo girls had no fear and retrieved the log for us to sign. Thanks stooy.

My second look at this one. On the previous occasion I had a condition which made it unsafe to climb, but not so today. In the end it ws an easy enough climb, although setting myself to access the log was interesting. Well worth the rating.
