Logs
We haven't been able to do the necessary regular maintenance that we initially thought possible, so better to let the area be freed up for other possible cache hides.
This geocacher reported that this geocache should be archived. A community volunteer reviewer has been notified.
Recommend archive as the CO is unable to get up here for maintenance over the last year.
As several have failed to find this one we have decided to temporarily disable until we have time to do a quick tour over there to check or replace.
Had a quick look in the obvious places but no luck. Please can the CO check that it's still in place for future cachers?
Stayed the night here at Rawene and had plenty of time for an early morning search with no-one around. I believe this one has gone. A couple of apparent finds logged look like generic "cut and paste" logs from a tour of the North Island. Hope the CO can check this one out. Rawene is a lovely town and deserves to have more caches.
We went to NZ for six weeks and did some geocaching on the way
We started exploring in Christchurch. What an exciting city, we loved it! The ReStart Market, the food trucks, the people, awesome city! After CHCH we went south. Dunedin and the pinguins were great! We went to Stewart Island and even Ulva Island to see some birds and find a geocache down south. From there we went to the North. Doubtfulsound was beautiful and sunny, Lake Wanaka wonderful! Abel Tasmantrack is an awesome hike, i can recommend it to all geocachers. The North Island was also a succes. Rotorua and the Vulcano's, wow! Napier, Tongariro Crossing, Ohopi Beach, White Island, big Kauri trees, Cape Reinga, the Bay of Islands... it was all fantastic.
We did love travelling and camping in NZ.
We stayed at the postmaster. Ofcourse i had to do some geocaching overhere!

Parked up near to GZ and had a good look, but was unable to find anything within 10 metres either side.
(144) Lovely day in Rawene working with the local youth. Was a tinny find. Tftc.
Parked my car in the queue and nipped off to sign this box. Luckily it is an easy find. Ferry was very busy today. Tftc
Field Log. Ausführliches Log folgt ein paar Wochen später.

Crossed over on the rawewne ferry after looking for the caches on the other side and at Kohukohu (finding neither of these two and the also seem missing!) and looked for this cache but with no avail but i now log with CO permission and it has been replaced. Thank you for this cache and another smiley face.
After a few DNFs we had to check this one. Sadly it was 'missing in action', so we have replaced missing container with a new one and it is all good now. Good luck.
Not many places to hide a magnetic cache here but our search turned up nothing. Our best guess was a fake plate on the lamp post.
Beatifull view of hokianga harbor and had to run for the ferry

We have found this type before so it was an easy find for Mrs Sandalwood Cottage while I made Morning Tea in the RV.
Have this one a go while I was waiting for the ferry. Travelling from Napier up to Cape Reinga and I was rather confused and worried as to why my GPS was taking me down a road with a dead end and water all around!!!! I pulled over to call my mum and she said to trust my gps so I did and I ended up here! First time on a ferry so am rather excited!!! Glad to see a few caches here to do while I waited. Thank you for easing my stress levels a bit!
Touring the North Island with laurienorton and JudithN.
Great spot, thanks for the cache.
Great spot, thanks for the cache.
With Judithn and cwnn on a tour around the norrh. Spent a bit of time exploring this beautiful area.
On a 5-day tiki tour of Northland with sveppi. This is our final stretch before going home tomorrow. Rolled the car straight onto the ferry so couldn't catch the cache on the other side, but grabbed this one on our way off the ferry. Good hide, thanks.
Up in Northland for a little winter break with fanfan-77. Catching the ferry on the way back down we we so on time we skipped any caches on the other side but grabbed this once we were off. Nice hide. I like the camo. TFTC
On a mission this weekend with Cats&Dragons, with a the main goals of reaching Cape Reinga to find the Virtual caches up there and the 35 and 36 degree South challenges, plus with anything else in between. We had a great time touring around Northland, and it is a pretty spectacular place. Being from Southern Northland, it has reminded me that I need to visit this place more.
The initial plan was to head up the west coast and on to Ninety Mile Beach (which was a huge highlight of the trip) and then down the east coast, but the plan was flexible depending on progress. We mostly achieved our ambitious plan, but due to time restraints had to cut back a bit from the planned list. If we had another day I think we would of achieved most of what we had planned.
Some of the figures for the trip were, 1600km's travelled in a 48 hour period, 37 hours of caching, 4 hours of sleep, and 7 hours driving up from Hamilton and back, with a total of 176 caches found!!
Thanks to all the CO's for placing these caches and showing us around Northland.
Went for a wander while waiting for the ferry. Thought I was gonna struggle with this hide for some reason, but I spotted the nice hide from afar. Thanks for the hide.

This weekends little adventure was in the company of HKCB (as we'd both been given leave passes by our respective partners) so off we set.
The primary goals this weekend were to collect as many of the earthcaches as time would allow, the two virtuals, and complete both the requirements for the S35 & S36 challenges. Mind you this did not stop us working to collect anything else that we could find as time allowed.
It was a great trip with the weather playing its part so that we saw a great variety of countryside between caches and far too little sleep.
THe result was 1600kms (over 48 hours), 189 caches (35 hours caching) & 4 hours sleep, not bad for a couple of beginners. THanks to all the CO's and those that maintain the caches for us to collect on our too brief tour of the north.
It was nice to have a break and a coffee here while waiting for the ferry, Most Excellent
Thanks for the placement

I made an early morning trip back to Rawene to look for the cache I ran out of time to get yesterday evening. TFTC
Found it during my trip from south of South Island to north of South Island.
Thanks for this cache!:)

As the Ferry was just about to go when we arrived with our campervan we decided to look for this cache after crossing the water. This was really a quick park and grab. TFTC and greetings from Austria
Very clever hide, the first we have seen like this.
Love Rawene, my grandad was born here in 1895, I guess it is a bit different these days!

After passing the ferry we made a short stop in this lovely village. To find this cache was quite easy, because in Europe this camouflage is quite usual. Thanks for hidding.

thanks to all the owners of the geocaches that we found on our way to Rawene. TFTC and greetings from Belgium.
As we found the one on the other side it was mandatory to find this one after the crossing as well. TFTC
Waiting for the ferry, that was a good opportunity to start the new year! Tricky hide! Happy new year &

Only had a couple of minutes to look before the ferry would leave and there were a lot of people around so I'll have to come back for this one.
Had just got off the ferry from Kohukohu - did not find but only had a couple of minutes to look.
Just back home in UK from trip to NZ so now able to log our finds. A quick find after driving off the ferry and parking the campervan. Now for a stroll around town. TFTC
Quick stop after fish and chips (to be exactly two fish, two chips and before we've ferried over to "the other side".
On our holidays QuestHobbit and i were the first time in New Zealand That was great! In Rawene we ate our first fish and chips in this country hehe.. and before taking the ferry to the other side we found this nice one quickly its a long time ago i took a ferry that was nice and relaxed TftC..
En route on a very long drive from Orewa to Apihara. Quite enjoyed the ferry ride - gave the kids a chance to run around. Neat hide - wife actually found this one.
We found this cache on a 2 week trip around Northland, visiting such locations as Opononi, Kaitaia, Cape Reinga, Russel, among many other places.
Quick find, as we had plenty of time (arrived as the ferry left). TFTC

Found with Redants while on our Far North Road Trip to the Winterless North. We found ourselves in some interesting places that we would not have visited had we not been searching for caches. Thanks to all the cache owners.
Started a queue then got lunch and a cache. Three cars and an ambulance going over, plenty of time to finish my coffee before we got to the other side. TFTC.

There was no ferry queue when we pulled up at Ferry Power and found the cache. Then we drove over a bit to start one. Thanks.
While I was waiting for the ferry to arrive I noticed this one was not very far away (nor was the ferry). So it was a brisk walk to the GZ to sign the cache off.
Cheers for the cache.
Cheers for the cache.
Rather late to log this cache but been so busy since our Cape Reinga roadie with magicmannz. Loved the car ferry across the harbour & had to grab this cache to mark the spot. Thanks so much for bringing us to this lovely part of the country nalawod
Quick drive by to check - this one only needed a new log so is now good to go. Good Luck.
Found this cache on the way back from a great northern holiday. Easy find. just the right place to help keep the kids occupied.
Found on a misty april fools day mornng while waiting for the ferry to go to work placement TFTC
Left our car in line for the ferry and strolled over for the quick find. TFTC and regards from San Carlos, California!!
As suggested, the voucher and I found this clever cache while waiting for the ferry. TFTC
On the way to Cape Reinga , ceklund55, me and our daughter stopped here before taking the ferry. Find the cache at once, no people in this area for the moment and took a lunchbite in a nearby nice cafeteria too.
Greetings from Sweden! TFTC!
