Couldn't find the cache and given only 1 out of the last 5 have found it (and I'm suspicious of that one) I'd say the cache is long gone.

Out with phume for a day of geohunting, didn't find this one, appears to be missing. Not sure if the most recent finder is telling the truth, their name doesn't appear on any of the logs and they seem to be finding ones that no one else can.

While heading to Ross River Dam we noticed that we would be passing the beginning ( or the end) of this Power Trail so decided to stop by for a short walk and try to grab a few smileysSmile.

We abandoned the first one because of muggles but were able to make a quick, and discreet find on this one.

Many thanks for the hide Champs2Monkeys[^]

[Blue]# 12430[/Blue] Found on our 2015 Winter escape trip to Qld.
Another very warm winter day to find a few more caches around townsville.
Today was the day for a bike ride along the RRPT.
This was a fair stretch and maybe the T rating could be a bit higher.
Cheers from Wagga Wagga in the Riverina, NSW.
Thanks for the cache Champs2Monkeys,

This was the second cache that we searched for this afternoon. We had no luck the first time we looked, but we did find it on the way back. GeoC found it, but sent out a sacrificial Geoson - water too cold to risk falling in. TFTC.

Yep. Bluey black molten plastic mess was found.

New cache is in the hollow of the tree closer to the feature.

19-Nov-13
Even an overcast rainy afternoon could not prevent us from continuing our caching streak. Unfortunately an apparently absent cache threatened to do it to us.

Like the previous log we think the fire has eliminated this one. Could the CO check and confirm this one is still in place?

28-Oct-13
A recent fire may have destroyed this cache. The tree was considerably burnt. Could not find the remains underneath the only paper bark there. Pic of burnt tree to follow

Out on a nice 4km long walk along the banks of the Ross River today and decided to pick up a few more of the RRPT caches. TFTC C2M. TNLN SL {#347}.

10-Sep-13
Mr TiedyeSmileys nearly got to inspect the water source at very close range here. He took one step down the slope towards the tree and slipped on all the slippery leaf litter and went crashing to the ground. Luckily the tree stopped him from going much further as he headed towards the drink. At least he was at the right level for grabbing the cache. Smile

North Qld 2013. Day 9 was my first full day in Townsville and today was the day to hit the Ross River Power trail. After fixing my bike up, I set out and visited a large range of caches along the river. It was a good range of caches some easy, some hard. I did not do them all but enjoyed everything I managed. . So, the other day we were called LAZY in a log,and when I emailed the DNF'er we were called COMPLACENT and CARELESS. We also received a lecture about our responsibilities as a cache owner. We really must be terrible cachers.

I could have just as easily logged off and never come back, but the Monkeys insisted that we go and check them as we planned a ride anyway.

Cache is in place and in good condition.

Found it quick but the entire cache and contents is water logged so I couldn't log it. The lid and zip bags looked like they were closed properly?
It seems the rainwater is detroying this one as it rained last night. It looks like the water is running off straight into the cache hide.
I took a photo to prove I found it.

9416 kms travelled in 21 days, one awesome eclipse observed near Mt Carbine in Northern Queensland and 712 cache finds, including a small handle of FTF's.

This was a trip I'd been planning for over 12 months with the main reason being to observe the solar eclipse on the morning of the 14th of November. I had decided to drive to Palm Cove and back, where my penthouse accommodation was located, while the rest of the family flew up and back. I love the drive and the unknown adventures that lay ahead; and I even think the last time I did one this big may have been for the previous eclipse in Australia which occurred over SA.

Apart from the great experiences, awesome scenery, and the characters met, the other reason to drive was to also do some serious caching, with the plan to stop at some power trails along the way including the Fruit Run and A.S. series near Stanthorpe on the way up and the Mid North Coast Wander series, just out of Port Macquarie, on the way back.

I had five days to travel each way with ten days in between spent in Palm Cove holidaying with my family. My route up took me from Melbourne to Tocumwal and up to Glenn Innes, through Toowoomba, Rockhampton and the coast road to Cairns while my route back was a bit more erratic. Heading from Cairns to Townsville then via Charters Towers to Rockhampton. From here it was through the amazing mining region to Roma then across to Dalby down through Stanthorpe (again) to Armidale, Port Macquarie, Wagga Wagga, Tocumwal and then home - phew.

After spending the night at a mates place in Townsville I had a few hours to kill before having a business meeting with a customer here in Townsville before starting on the trek back home south. I thought the RRPT series was a good way to find some caches and have a bit of a walk along the river in the spare time. Found this one all safe in its hiding spot. Thanks for the ide.

Ha ha ha.... Why not?

I am amazed at how a log book in a zippy bag, inside a waterproof conainer, continues to get wet sitting a good three feet above the water line. None of the others along here seem to have the same issue.

We will go out and dry/replace on the weekend.

Thank you jaw_fnq for the notification.

The Ross River Power Trail has been on my 'hit list' since it was first created.
Today I had an oportunity to get started finding a section of the caches from APEX park up to the Boat ramp.
Only one DNF for the day at the rowing club with the muggles being out in force on such a nice day.
A great walk along the river and a nice set of well hidden caches.
Well done C2M.

This one was a bit soggy inside and I could only just scratch my name in the book.

Cheers and happy caching.

This was a lovely spot and it was a bit of a surprise to see the log book was damp. I managed to sign the book and held it in the sun for a few minutes but it really needs about an hour of sunshine to dry it out properly.

Another good spot to sit and enjoy the river as it flowed by in the sunshine today

#5201

Our forty- sixth day of our honeymoon to New Zealand and Australia.
This morning we left around 8.30 AM the Alligator Creek Road House rest area for some caching in Townsville Along the way to the power trail we saw the military training area and the copper factory. We parked our camper van at the Loam Island Boat ramp and walked first South. After finding all caches except one, we returned along the road which was much less amusing then the walk along the river side. As we had parked our camper in the middle we continued our walk along the road to the rest of the caches of the RRPT and after finding the last one, we crossed the road to get an ice cream at the fuel station, as it was hot today. After being back at the car we went to the north to do some multi caches and looked at an African festival. After that we visited some solved mysteries and before returning to the Alligator Creek Road House rest area we visited the Coles to do the shopping for the last week. Now we are using the power supply at the rest area for logging our finds. In our geocaching career we never found a cache on June 16, but today we managed to do some.

We found this cache today at 09.55 AM local time.
While Jo* was doing the administration of the previous found, *Ba was some meters away and he thought he saw a small alligator in the water (about 30 cm), but when Jo* arrived the eyes disappeared. We continued our walk to this cache and had a sharp eye on the water, but we could not spot (another) one. On ground zero the cache was found, but the container and the logbook was wet. It certain needs some maintenance.

The ninth of my unexpected power trail walk on dusk. Rather dark now so was glad of the headlamp. I can't quite recall this one as I'd done so many in a row. Anyway it was all good fun. I know I'd previously done the next cache and I failed again at Riverview so this was my last for the night.

Thanks!

As I cache my way down the Ross River way today I am reminded of a log written by and Aussie in an English Cache (oh I live there these days) He suggested that we put caches in places that no self-respecting Aussie would dare put their hands! Which makes me chuckle as some of the cache hides I’ve witnessed today leads me to think that he’s not cached in TVL.. I have experienced 2 snakes so far today one at Rowesbay and one up nearer the dam so my senses are on high alert.... log signed and replaced without reptile interference! Big Grin

We (C+2M) have been to all the caches in this area at least three times in the past two weeks.

Despite never seeing a snake in any of those trips, a number of cachers have logged encounters.

I have added snakes to the attributes, and posted a CAUTION on each of the posts for the hides in this area.

Please take care people. I don't want any bites because I sent you into the bush after a cache.

All caches in this series are less than 3 meters from the track, so no need to go forging your own trails through the bush.

Started my geobiking run of the power trail down here at the end so I could ride back the way I came.

All I can say is wow. Excellent terrain to ride along and test the geobike's suspension and thorn proof tires, however all the water made me more nervous than the THREE brown snakes I encountered along the way. Lucky I brought my combats and stayed alert.

Cache wasn't too hard to locate but as mentioned the coordinates are very off. I tried to take a new set for you from three spots nearby but the cover was a total beast and the only consistent result was the radar lead me away after each set of 100. I hope you have better luck with your averaging! TFTC and onwards to more caches!
