Landslide with huge trees now blocking the path to finding this cache. Gutted as coz the walk is pretty fun and pretty
I was worried about the big tree, but since I came at it from the west, there was no problem. TFTC.
Lovely walk but unfornatlty a very big tree has fallen 7m from us and we where unable to pass.
Another Geocaching mission with Cats&Dragons, the goal for the day was to focus on the caches around the Waihi/Bowentown/Anthenree area including the cache across the bar on Matakana Island, and while we had the kayak with us a visit to a lonely beach was on the cards as well. The day was hugely successful and a lot of fun, so a big thanks to the CO's for all the placements.
Thought I'd have problems finding this one once I got to GZ without a hint, but I quickly saw something that look promising and sure enough there was the hide. Thanks for the placement.

Parked up and at first we thought we were walking down a driveway but thankfully it was the access to the beach. A short walk along the gravel pathway to GZ and the cache was quickly found. A lovely shady spot to do the duties as it was a very hot day - TFTC!
Nice little walk that I never knew was there. Nice views and interesting find. Tftc
GZ was slightly further on but I'd already spotted the convenient cover so backtracked for a quick find. TFTC.
Signed as Hakuna Matata.
Took us a while to find where to go down. Park at the street (4 spots) and go to the grassy area on the right hand side. At the right you can walk down.

...So we carry on our way, the rain is easing somewhat although it's still pretty windy. We noticed the 2 DNFs on that one, but knowing the CO is around this weekend, maybe he has replaced the cache... We park in the new subdivision on the road and follow the path towards the estuary. It doesn't take long to reach a section of denser bush. Now, where would I hide a Regular... Here maybe? Bingo, only 20cm from where I first looked. And the logbook is old, so the last 2 geocachers to visit this site must have been a bit blind
With a couple of DNF's we though we might not find this cache but we would have a go anyway. Nice little walkway we would never have found without there being a cache here. A short walk between showers and fanfan-77 spots it almost straight away. TFTC
We're visiting from Florida, USA. That was great fun but no luck today. Sigh. Thanks for placing the cache.
Approached via open grass and ended up beside a pine tree. Searched, found nothing so followed a rough high track east past a monkey puzzle tree, down steps and alongside the estuary westward until below the pine tree. Closest reading at this point but no joy. No cache. Keep going west along a pleasant track to exit on side road. Nice adventure but no reward.
Lovely shady spot on a hot day. Wandering up to Waihi Beach and stopped off to check out athenree. Its a beautiful spot. Thanks for bringing me here.
Nice rustic walk to this cache found out in the open do have replaced with better camo nice place and thanks for the cache☺☺
#11530. I was glad we stayed on the track for this one rather than trying the direct approach. TFTC.
After a full-on and tiring day yesterday, when we biked from Waihi to Paeroa, we had a cruisy morning and after lunch headed out to Athenree and Waihi Beach to have a look around. Unfortunately, the sun was shining so it was warmer than we would have liked so we appreciated cache finds in the shade!
We found access to the coastal walk near some houses that looked as though they had been transported here. Good to see unwanted houses being moved and upgraded. My Oregon hated the tree cover and refused to co-operate. We also mistakenly believed the cache would be on the upper side of the track. Eventually StreetWalker, whose GPSr was better behaved, found the well hidden cache. Nice views today. TFTC.

After meeting this CO at his TB hotel we headed over this way but unfortunately parked all wrong so we couldn't access the pathway where we needed to be. As time was pressing on and we needed to get back to collect the dog from kennels we left the rest of the caches to keep us going for when we return another time.
Thanks for the fun anyway.

Greetings from Wellington. Found while walking the dogs on a visit with the mother in-law. Said hello to a big bouncy brown dog on the way to the path. Loved the views on the way to the cache. Straight forward find at GZ. TFTC.
I first tried this one when I was a newbie and wasn't sure where to go. This time I spotted the walkway sign when arriving in the car. Parked and walked down to a nice walkway and found cache with relative ease in my second spot.
There is a blue WALKWAY signpost on the corner and a few car parks in view of the post. The walkway leads straight to the cache.
TFTC!

At first we had the usual Athenree problem of finding an approach to GZ, but once we got that sorted it was a quick find. Thanks for another in this area. An interesting subdivision of relocated houses. I love the little old building there that is for sale!
Had trouble figuring where to access this from, so like others walked across the empty section but could figure no way down the bank. Eventually went higher up and managed to make my way down. Not sure I'd call it a track, and GPS was not happening under tree cover. Fortunately went straight to the correct hiding place.
I wonder why these properties are taking so long to move - it looks like a wonderful spot.
I scampered down the bank even though I knew I shouldn't. A quick line to gz and a cache that took me longer to find then it should have. Soon had it though and back to the car.
Cheers again willbuild

On our way to Tauranga we decided to make a short detour to Athenree. Great views from up above, but we discovered that wasn't where we were suppose to be. It us a few minutes to find the track down. At GZ my gps wouldn't settle and so we looked in possible spots. I had just decided this was possibly going to be a dnf as we needed to be on our way when I noticed something right next to where I was standing. I almost missed it so was pleased to get a smiley here.
Today was a day to pick up the caches south of Athenree.
Took a little while to locate the way down to the track at first but after that was accomplished it was no problem. Loved the walk and views.
Cheers for the cache.

3.20pm - Drove to within 15 metres of this one, scrambled down bank and soon found hiding spot. 16 caches found today so now for home before my son, daughter In Law & grandson head home to Auckland. SLTFTC
This is much too good a day to be home doing chores, so loaded up the bikes and headed off to ride the Secret Cycleway.
But we got side tracked. Could not resist a few on the side. This is an interesting spot. A new subdivision with old recycled houses. Or were they there all the time and the new subdivision created around them?
GPS was jumpy near GZ, but got it in the end.
Thanks willbuild.

Located cache quickly but made a big mistake thinking we could do the 'coastal walk' with our pushbikes. Did not realise it was a dead end track!!! A bit of bush bashing got us back to our starting point tho. TFTC.
After recently spending some time in the area we decided to spend this weekend in Waihi to do some caching. Little did we know that we would spend the weekend negotiating competitors in the annual Waihi Nugget multisport event! nevertheless we had some great weather, found some lovely spots to eat and drink, soaked in the nearby hot pools, and of course found plenty of great caches.
After a soak in the hot pools we made our way into this new subdivision, which strangely seems to have more relocated houses, rather than new builds. Mr NZT found the path to the cache and did the honours. Sadly it was low tide, but the harbour still looked good to us! TFTC

Found after good search. GPS jumping around under tree cover made it harder than it was. Tftc

574 Parked and walked around water edge. Bit muddy and smelly in parts but otherwise an interesting walk. Back via road.
Yep, took us a little while, but after settling down the coordinates proved to be pretty good. Very well hidden - niiiice. Found on a day-trip out from Tauranga.
Great location for a cache. Thanks for bringing us here.
TFTC!

Tftc. Took a bit to find it but git there in the end! Found with nzhelga and stevovets
Found with Ric on our bike ride round Athenree .... we decided against the slide down the hill method ! TFTC
We tried to reach the cache on two different footwalks but both times 'private property' stopped us.
So we take the car, drove as near as possible and grabed the box after a short walk.
Thank you for the cache and leading us here.

Looked for this one for ages first time around, started to get dark so came back the next day and found it straight away! Don't know how we missed it the first time!
Team Welsh and I found ourselves at the top of the slope and figured the cache was at the bottom. I took the direct route and Team Welsh took the walkway.... quick find of the cache. t4tc
Pagenz's log states it all, couldn't watch as she slid down the weed matting so left to take the long way around. Always an adventure when the two sisters get together and another cache to add to so many great memories that we have made while out and about together. TFTC
Looked ages ago but it was missing from the obvious hiding place. Pleased it has been replaced. TFTC.
targeted this cache to qualify for a challenge, got close to GZ then the GPS couldn't get a good signal, spotted a likely spot, and was right on the money

Great fun. We were four adults and three children in search of the cache. The way there began exciting. At first we were barking at two guard dogs of a house, then flew a bird of prey with freshly captured snake away. After we had been looking for 30 minutes intensively came beside an empty beer bottle, a dead bird finally the cache. It has made us a lot of fun to solve the mystery. Thank you and greetings from Beijing. andgoerres

Didn't really know where to start looking with this one as tree cover threw off the GPS signal and there's no clue to help out. Didn't take too much searching though before spotting something looking a little out of place and there it was. TFTC
Nowhere to be found. Without the luxury of a clue, if the coords are spot on all the likely hidey holes are empty, if they are out then there are just too many places to hide it round GZ. I will return once it has been found or replaced.
An enjoyable day out with Bridgeaway today; this was our first one for the day, but unfortunately couldn't locate it despite four pairs of eyes and lots of climbing up and down steep bits in the bush. Lovely views from here with the tide in, sun shining and swans on the harbour today.
